No, that would happen if you disable XRANDR. In my first, quick tests, I
could not observe any visible change.

Re: [Bug 1083030] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 resumes from Suspend without password prompt

2012-12-14 Thread frizzle21
yes, it happened in 12.04, 12.10 and 13.04a
The workstation next to mine has the same problem, same hardware, 12.04
64bit fresh install.

I never added any custom boot options, but i'll gladly edit that line if u
think it helps with debugging next time i'm at my desk.
Yes, i upgraded my box since i originally reported the issue.
I don't have this issue on my laptop otoh, the boot options don't contain
that debug flag here:

$ grep "Kernel command line" /var/log/syslog.1
Dec 15 07:52:46 aceris kernel: [0.00] Kernel command line:
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.7.0-5-generic
root=UUID=46014c11-a5ee-4ba3-a2d7-ee2896dc3ce5 ro quiet splash

i'll try with the workstation computer first thing on monday!

[Bug 1009686] Re: Change window title from "Software Updater" to...anything else?

2012-12-14 Thread Winnie So
According to comment #10 in but # 681723, "Software Updater" is a
shortened-form of "Software Update Manager". Please consider changing it
back to Update Manager.

[Bug 606594] Re: Multiple instances of Gwibber

2012-12-14 Thread Pauli
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 856284 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856284

This might not be duplicate. I noticed that gwibber-service startup has
a huge race issue in the code that tries to prevent starting duplicate
services.

Basic issue in gwibber-serice code is:

1. Check if dbus service is registered.
2. Do some initialization stuff
3. Register dbus service.

This race allows gwibber-service to start multiple instances that would
result to gwibber-service reporting same remote service multiple times.

I'm not dbus expert but I remember dbus providing feature to start
gwibber-service like service automatically on first client requesting
the service. I suppose that could eliminate the race in startup making
it easily possible quarentee single gwibber-service instance per user
login.

2012-12-14 Thread Ibrahim-hammad
HI Christopher,

I hope this email finds you well.

I've been encountering some problems and crashes lately, while when I try
to generate a report or report a bug I couldn't do it successfully , so it
is not done.

Now, I received a warning sign this morning with a message and when I try
to check for updates a get another message.

I tries before when I encountered problems to report it through the
terminal using the history commands but I got a message telling me that the
file is not found.

Please find attached a snapshot of both messages. I appreciate much you
kind help and instructions on what exactly to do (and how to do it please).

[Bug 1090645] [NEW] "Wired connection 1" deleted after creating "Wired connection 2" and Rebooting

2012-12-14 Thread PJSingh5000
Public bug reported:

I've experienced this three times on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10 x64.
If you create a new wired network connection, the original wired connection is
deleted after a reboot.

Steps to recreate Bug...

Note that "Wired connection 1" is the default connection.
>From the Network Manager applet, select Edit Connections.
Select the "Wired" tab.
Click "Add".
Enter Connection name: "Wired connection 2"
Select the Device MAC address from the drop down list.
Select the "IPv4 Settings" tab.
Select "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only" from the Method dropdown.
Enter DNS Servers (ex. 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4)
Click Save.

The new connection ("Wired connection 2") and the existing connection
("Wired connection 1") are visible in the Network Manager applet.

Test both connections ("Wired connection 1" and "Wired connection 2")
and confirm you are able to connect.

Select "Wired connection 1" and let it connect.
Shut down the computer.
Turn on the computer.
Note that "Wired connection 2" is the only connection available. "Wired
connection 1" has dissapeared fro mthe Network Manager applet. Also note that
"Wired connection 1" does not appear in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections

[Bug 1090482] Re: over-ridding distro config still broken

2012-12-14 Thread Joshua Harlow
Is it just me or did the merge not go through correctly?

See: https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~harlowja/cloud-init/ds-reset-
fix/revision/741

Looking at the current "head" function for distro() that was supposed to
be different, it doesn't appear to have reflected that merge??

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cloud-init-dev/cloud-
init/trunk/view/head:/cloudinit/stages.py#L75

Possibly thats why :-)

[Bug 1070302] Re: [regression] Dash loses interaction with keyboard

2012-12-14 Thread Ray DeCampo
I experience this bug when using the arrow keys to navigate within
results. I never use the Esc key when operating dash (I wasn't aware it
did anything). This happens to me on a regular basis but unfortunately
I cannot reproduce it reliably. It happens more often if I have just
switched workspaces using the keyboard (Ctrl-Alt-Right, e.g.) and then
use the arrow keys in dash before all results are returned (search
indicator still spinning).

[Bug 569900] Re: partman sometimes creates partitions such that there is ambiguity between whether the superblock is on the disk device or the partition device

2012-12-14 Thread astrostl
I think I ran into this. Have an 11.04 system, set up ways unknown.
sdc1 and sdd1 were mirrored via mdadm, and sdd failed. I replaced it
with an identical drive, fdisked it, and was told that it was too small
when I tried to add it back into the array.

fdisk -l /dev/sdc output:

Disk /dev/sdc: 300.1 GB, 300069052416 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 36481 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0008dc33

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 36482 293035008 fd Linux raid autodetect

36481 cylinder disk, with a partition ending on non-existent cylinder
36482.

I could get it to start rebuilding by adding the entire /dev/sdd device
rather than a partition, but it felt weird pairing a partition with a
device. I dug around a bit on Google, and ended up here.

My "solution": sfdisk -d /dev/sdc|sfdisk --force /dev/sdd (using --force
because sfdisk doesn't like the way sdc1 looks either).

That got me a clone of sdc's partition layout. It doesn't explain how
it got there to start, though, or if I'm skating on thin ice overall.
