[Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option by default
Why the heck the Devs thought it was smart to Disable Hibernate by Default and not include a GUI to Enable it is beyond me. Looking at the Early Comments it seems the Devs didn't think this through and consider what the End-User wants. How Hard is it to Give us a freakin switch in the Power Settings to Enable Hibernation! It's Not Complicated. Just have a Warning Pop-Up when people click it so that they know it might not work properly. Heck, even mark it "Beta" so people will understand it even more. Just give the average people the option. When I recommend Ubuntu to a Friend and he goes "Where the Heck is Hibernate?", I don't want to tell him "You have to create this file in a system folder and then copy&paste this text into it." [Bug 706650] Re: [need-packaging] AMD microcode update
Hello Henrique First of all, again, thank you for the interest and help you have been willing to provide, that means a lot. We rechecked and double checked via the motherboard on board post code display and all codes were normal. We checked the MSI website and found no latter bios version than what we flashed at the conclusion of the build, and then to make sure called the 1-888 tech support number just in case. They said we had their latest bios version. Then a quick install of Ubuntu 13.04 and I have included the information as before from that install just in case you are curious or interested. To me, this seems to be an issue with Ubuntu 12.04. I don't think this cpu and motherboard were on the market when 12.04 was released so we tried 13.04 just to see and it seemed much better. Then, just before noon today, the gentleman who is paying for it decided he wanted a different operating system installed and shipped out today to his grandson , and so we did. We were also having problems with getting graphics display and audio drivers to work correctly also, so I can understand his decision. Thank you again for the interest in helping and I will not forget your efforts. Hopefully it will help someone else also. [Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop
Bricked my Samsung NP900X4c Installed Ubuntu 12.04 from a flash drive with UEFI ENABLED. I never could get it to dual boot with Windows 7 so I completely wiped the SSD including the recovery partition. Ubuntu 12.04 worked well but I was frustrated by the lack of support for function keys, and upgraded to 12.10 via internet. Booting into 12.10 was difficult, and I frequently got kernel panics as illustrated here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121 see this screenshot because it looked just like mine: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=79381&action=edit In roughly one out of 15 startup cycles, the machine would boot successfully and I could log-in. I thought I'd use suspend/resume instead of a power down because that seemed to work reliably. However starting/stopping the WIFI and starting Bluetooth also threw a Kernel panic necessitating a restart. The only way to clear a Kernel panic was to press and hold the power switch until the computer restarted. In one of these power down cycles I had the bright idea of hitting the emergency battery reset button (small hole in the bottom plate of the computer). THIS IS THE ACTION THAT BRICKED THE COMPUTER. From this point on, I just get a light on the power button and nothing else... BIOS is toast! FWIW- ubuntu 12.10 looked very promising. The samsung kernel module provided support for nearly all function keys with the exception of wireless on/off. Can anybody give me some advice regarding sourcing a new motherboard? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1040557 Title: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C,np700z5c laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
