[Bug 1049113] Re: DVDs video made with DVDStyler don't play ok with background audio

2012-12-23 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi Brian,

This can be achieve by using conditional jumps, interpreted by dvdauthor
(as described there:
http://osdir.com/ml/multimedia.dvdauthor.user/2004-04/msg00136.html ). I
remember doign so some time ago, but can't find the example again.

cheers,

Fabrice

[Bug 1011916] Re: toolbar is not working properly

2012-12-23 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.04 reached End of Life on
April 2011.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with Ubuntu 13.04 and was unable to,
given the information you've provided. Please upgrade to the latest
version and re-test. If the bug is still reproducible, increase the
verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1093376] Re: Black screen on boot with Nvidia 310 driver

2012-12-23 Thread Rui Nande
Have you tried the nvidia release (310.19) install in a console with the
lightdm service stopped?

Download the drivers from the nvidia page and enter console 1 (CTRL+ALT+1) and
change to the directory where the install file is,
default is Downloads in your home directory, and type:

sudo stop lightdm
sudo sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-a64-310.19.run

When promped to update xorg.conf say no. With me lightdm didn't work.
<-- could be the bug in question

Reboot and see if it works. You can also try saying yes to xorg.conf update,
just say to make a backup copy when promped.
If it fails, go to a console, stop lightdm if it's started, run the install
with the --uninstall option and restore xorg.conf's backup when promped. Run
install again and don't update xorg.conf.

It's also possible that it's a driver related bug, since it's an experimental
version, so try the final version for 310 (310.19) from nvidia to exclude that
possibility.
I will also try to replicate the bug.

Drop a line afterwards with the results. Take care.

A followup to my comment #172 above: things are not perfect with quantal either.
The card behaves differently, starting up with good speed consostently, but
it's not stable, eventually losing connection totally sooner or later,

[Bug 1093401] [NEW] 3 column address label mailmerge alignment not calculated correctly

2012-12-23 Thread DrKay
Public bug reported:

When a 3 column label sheet is chosen for printing addresses with
mailmerge, columns 2 and 3 are aligned further and further to the left.
On Avery 5160, the rightmost column (3) is aligned so far to the left
that it does not print fully on the label. This has been reported as
Debian Bug #678813 and LibreOffice #58700.

[Bug 1093399] [NEW] Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.

2012-12-23 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Public bug reported:

Unable to set up 2 separate X screens on 12.04 (this works on 10.04).

What I did: fresh install of Ubuntu 64bits. Then upgraded. Then try to
set up 2 separate X screens (2 monitors).

It didn't work on nouveau, nvidia-current, nvidia (post release
updates), and nvidia-experimental-310.

The behaviour is the same regardless of the driver used:

First the 2nd monitor is complete blank, with an X as a mouse cursor (X
Windows default?) . This follow the same description follow in this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/885989

'killall nautilus' shows the default background, but no top panel, no
launcher, and same mouse cursor. Launching any instance of nautilus
blanks the screen again.

I dug a little further and I found this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/661450

running 'DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz --replace' offers a little improvement: top
panel appears, as the unity launcher. However, no windows decorations
and all windows open stick to the upper left corner. They can't be
moved.

After restarting the machine all back to zero.

I went to #ubuntu, but there's no other advice besides install ppas like
swat and edgers.

I'm willing to provide any other information and make any tests you
request.

Kind Regards.

[Bug 1093397] [NEW] using a live cd on a clean hard drive but only loads to brown screen, now wht?

2012-12-23 Thread leigh
Public bug reported:

Hello Ubuntu Community,

This is my first shot at using a linux operating system. I was able to
install Ubuntu 8.10 on an old HP computer I have.

Current Specs:
Celeron D processor (running at like 2.33 MHZ or somewhere in that range)
512 MB RAM
40 GB HD
Intel Onboard Graphics (ubuntu sys requirments calls for 1024x768 compatible
cards with VGA) which should be fine I think.
Onboard sound
No current network connection or internet connection

The installation process was painless and the setup was easy. But
during my first login (after I typed my screen and password) it sat on
that brown screen for about a half an hour before I finnaly decided to
try it agian. I shut down the computer and tried again and it still got
suck there.

I then proceeded to check the net for others with similar problems. I
tried makeing a new user and logging in. I've tried to delete compiz
and that didn't work. I've tried to do some stuff with metacity and
that didn't work. I've tried to changeing settings (sudo dpkg-
reconfigure xserver-xorg). Nothing has worked I still get the brown
screen of death when I log in to any account.

I would really like to try ubuntu out, so any help would be great.
(my current os is vista on my laptop, I think its time for a change) :p

[Bug 1093396] [NEW] Umask resulting of USERGROUPS_ENAB is ignored with sudo/kdesudo

2012-12-23 Thread xor
Public bug reported:

- By default, /etc/login.defs has configured "USERGROUPS_ENABLE=yes". The part
where you configure the UMASK in login.defs explains what this does to the
UMASK:
# If USERGROUPS_ENAB is set to "yes", that will modify this UMASK default
value
# for private user groups, i. e. the uid is the same as gid, and username is
# the same as the primary group name: for these, the user permissions will
be
# used as group permissions, e. g. 022 will become 002.

- This should cause any newly created files by those users to be
writable by the group. However, this usergroups behavior is ignored when
the shell of the user is launched via sudo (or kdesudo) and the default
UMASK is used instead. This results in the files NOT being writable by
the group.

Reproducing it using Kubuntu12.10 amd64:

- Within a rootshell, create a user account with the following command:
useradd --create-home --shell /bin/bash --user-group testuser

- Still as root, do
sudo -u testuser -i

- Within the shell of the testuser, do
touch testfile
ll

- You will see that the file is NOT writable for the group.

- If you use "su - testuser" instead of sudo, the umask WILL be correct.

- The same issue applies to kdesudo.

[Bug 1074028] Re: Port all pyexiv2 apps to GExiv2

2012-12-23 Thread Robert Bruce Park
** Description changed:

I have spoken directly with the maintainer of pyexiv2 and we have agreed
that pyexiv2 is an abandoned project that will never support Python3.
Therefore, anything that depends on pyexiv2 is going to be stuck on
Python 2 until they port to GExiv2. GExiv2 is a clear winner in terms of
  simplicity, and maintainability.

- So, these packages need to be ported to GExiv2 before they can be ported
- to Python 3:
+ Packages marked as affected by this bug were designated so because they
+ have a dependency on the pyexiv2 package. They will need to be ported to
+ GExiv2 before they can be ported to Python 3. Here is the popcon data

[Bug 1093395] [NEW] [12.04 64-bit] Acer C7 microphone input can't be captured by applications

2012-12-23 Thread Nicholas Kirchner
Public bug reported:

Installed ChrUbuntu on the new Acer C7 Chromebook using the instructions
here: http://chromeos-cr48.blogspot.com/2012/04/chrubuntu-1204-now-with-
double-bits.html

A commenter at http://chromeos-cr48.blogspot.com/2012/11/looking-for-
acer-c7-chrubuntu-tester.html has described the problem as follows:

"The only issue I have identified and isolated is an ALSA bug with
internal microphone support. The internal mic is digital, and can
successfully amplify and play through the laptop speakers in realtime.
Setup requires typing 'alsamixer' at the command line, F5 to see all the
inputs and outputs, use spacebar at Digital Capture to toggle it on and
off, mute the analogue mic and turn up the digital inputs and digital
boost at the far right. However, this mic input cannot be captured by
any application because ALSA only feeds the analogue mic input to
applications, which results in loud static. To make sure this was an
ALSA bug, I uninstalled PulseAudio, but it still was present. Not sure
where to go from here, and hoping the ALSA developers already are aware
and working it. By the way, both ALSA Mixer and the PulseAudio speaker
volume control and mute at the upper right of the Umbutu Desktop must
have volume up and be unmuted."

Is it a standalone patch or does it depend on the former DRM patch? Anyway, I
have tested it with 3.7.1 + i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 and it still triggers the
hang check thingey as before. (without enabling rc6 it does not do that)

I got some offset issues too, but it failed to compile at all because the
function was not defined. Did you really apply the patch to the right source
tree?

Indeed, patchwork 1896161 from comment 111 does not compile.

Meh. As that patch is basically changing the ordering of the objects
considered for shrinking, it just opens a can of worms - but it does
seem to be a stopgap workaround.

> Chris: What should I do next? You have posted two patches (108 and 109

#108 is a means of provoking the GPU to spot a lot more errors, it needs
a little more refinement to not first fallover on standard UXA
behaviour.

I'd be interested in seeing if #109 has any effect at all (on stock
3.7.0 + uxa).

There is also https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1896161/ that would be useful
to test (as it fixes a real bug and it would be cool if it was also an
effective workaround here).

I am unable to reproduce any hang with rc6 disabled. Chris, should I test it
with rc6 enabled?
Norbert, do you have a reliable test-case? My sw/hw details:

- Distro: Arch Linux x86_64 (with testing repos enabled)
- DDX: xf86-video-intel 2.20.16 on Xorg 1.13.1
- KDE 4.9.4 as desktop environment, KWin uses OpenGL compositing
- Kernel: 3.7.1 (config
https://raw.github.com/Lekensteyn/aur/master/linux-custom/config + watchdog
patch)
- SSD: Intel 320 80G (/boot + LUKS-encrypted filesystem)
- CPU: i5-460M
- RAM: 8G

My rc6-enabled hang could be triggered by copying a Linux source from
the SSD tree a few times to tmpfs (without hitting OOM).

the rc6 needs to be disabled *in*any*case*, that is known by now.
And it is a standalone patch of xf86-video-intel. Did you recompile it?

Huuu? Are you sure? I checked my git commit log and it is kernel 3.7 tag

One bug at a time! ;-)

The rc6=0 bug seems much more nasty as it is affecting gen4/gen5 and
seems to imply a deep underlying synchronisation issue (so could
actually be all architectures, just more prevalent on gen4/5). The rc6=1
ilk bug really does look like a missing hw workaround, dying between a
series of flushes on the render ring is a good indication that our hw
interaction is at fault. rc6 is disabled by default on ilk because we
had not yet managed to make it work reliably, that it still doesn't work
makes it a lower priority bug to chase. However, given the closely
linked bisection, fixing the common problem may indeed make the rc6 bug
harder to trigger.

[Bug 1000244] Re: /etc/resolv.conf symlink does not exist after initial installation of resolvconf package

2012-12-23 Thread Bob Tregilus
Hey Thomas -

Okay, I just installed Linux Mint 14 64-bit KDE. (I was running Mint 13
KDE LTS.)

Immediately after the install the first thing I did was run the
following:

bob@elaterite ~ $ ls -l /etc/resolv.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 Dec 23 14:58 /etc/resolv.conf ->
../var/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

bob@elaterite ~ $ ls -l /run/resolvconf
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 23 15:09 enable-updates
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Dec 23 15:09 interface
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 310 Dec 23 15:09 resolv.conf

bob@elaterite ~ $ ls -l /run/resolvconf/interface
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21 Dec 23 15:09 NetworkManager
bob@elaterite ~ $

Then I did a full upgrade with apt-get and it reported no resolv error.

Then I did a dist-upgrade to that latest kernel (no errors) and rebooted
and then ran the following again:

bob@elaterite ~ $ ls -l /etc/resolv.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 Dec 23 14:58 /etc/resolv.conf ->
../var/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

bob@elaterite ~ $ ls -l /run/resolvconf
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 23 16:46 enable-updates
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Dec 23 16:46 interface
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 310 Dec 23 16:46 resolv.conf

bob@elaterite ~ $ ls -l /run/resolvconf/interface
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21 Dec 23 16:46 NetworkManager
bob@elaterite ~ $

So it looks like the symbolic link got created at install and didn't
break during upgrade, eh?

Thanks!

Bob

[Bug 1081009]

2012-12-23 Thread Daniel-ffwll
Please try out the patch at

https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1885411/

It has a decent chance to reduce gtt trashing, which might be good
enough to again ducttape over the hangs. Or maybe change the pattern to
be able to reproduce it much quicker. In any case, should be interesting
...

[Bug 1093392] [NEW] Upgrade and full install of 12.04.1 LTS fails

2012-12-23 Thread Mark D. Melone
Public bug reported:

While attempting to upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04.1 LTS, there was an
error (which I didn't see), but caused the machine to reboot. When I
tried "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade", I get several broken packages. I
even tried using /usr/bin/aptitude-curses to resolve all of the
dependancies, but it kept seg faulting.

Then I decided to just do a fresh install, and it crashed and asked to
submit this bug. I have attached the /var/crash file.

[Bug 1093373] Re: package fonts-horai-umefont (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: short read on buffer copy for backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/share/fonts/truetype/horai-umefont/ume-pgo4.ttf'

2012-12-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1090956] Re: Wireless keyboard not properly configured

2012-12-23 Thread Tiede
I'm not following the reasoning here, Fabio?
Does that mean that since the bug is not ubuntu-specific, it should not be
listed as affecting that distro?
It was my understanding that since it affected BOTH distros, I'd mark it as
affecting _both of them_...

I'm confused as to why this is invalid, but just wondering where do I go
from here.

[Bug 1093389] [NEW] Cannot change formatting of the first endnote's number

2012-12-23 Thread Kevin O'Gorman
Public bug reported:

A document with endnotes, attached, exhibits the problems:
1. In the endnotes (not in the main text), the note number of the first endnote

I didn't do it, but it appears someone reported the same bug already to
upstream, as NoOp reported above. I've looked at it and it seems to be
the same issue.

[Bug 1078070] Re: Creating a table, cannot change the number of rows in the header

2012-12-23 Thread Kevin O'Gorman
A screencast seems like overkill. Do this:
Prepare: try to imagine you're a beginner, or at least that you're new to using
multi-line headers.
start LO Writer
table -> insert table
in the popup dialog, try to change the X in
The first X rows
without changing anything else. It won't change.

I submit that this looks like an unresponsive dialog. Even if the
behavior is correct in a way, it would be nice if there were more
feedback.

So: change this from a bug to a feature request. Either:
1. Automatically also increase the number of rows.
2. Pop up a dialog explainging the problem.
