[Bug 1114107] [NEW] No way to customize built-in dnsmasq configuration in 12.04
Public bug reported: The integration of Dnsmasq into NetworkManager is, overall, very convenient: it makes dealing with _some_ VPN connections on Ubuntu much easier. However, there are still a number of VPN connections that NetworkManager doesn't support, or doesn't support fully (e.g. a number of OpenVPN configuration options). In these cases, it's necessary to configure the VPN connections the old-fashioned way: on the command line. There's also the issue that nm-applet doesn't gracefully support multiple simultaneous VPN connections (though the Network control panel now apparently does). Unfortunately, there really isn't a way to gracefully handle the DNS changes that these manual VPN connections require in 12.04's version of Dnsmasq. It seems that 12.10's version offers /etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/, and also a D-Bus interface-- either of which would likely work. Neither of these options (or any others I'm aware of) exist for 12.04. Right now, I find myself in the somewhat bizarre situation of considering a switch off of the LTS 12.04 release to 12.10 just to get support for a couple of VPN connections. Is there any chance that the dnsmasq.d and/or D-Bus support could be backported to 12.04? Apologies if this is the wrong forum for such a request-- couldn't think of a better one. FYI: Such a backport was actually first suggested by one of the NetworkManager devs on dnsmasq-discuss [1]. [Bug 1034740] Re: iwlwifi drops connection when using 802.11n
There seems to be some correlation with noisy environments, i.e. lots of neighbour networks on the same or adjacent channel. The situation improves dramatically when changing to a different channel with fewer networks. However, as mentioned above, other devices like Android phones or Macboocs don't exhibit this problem, so it must be driver related isn't caused by the AP only. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034740 Title: iwlwifi drops connection when using 802.11n To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1034740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck! [This is an automated message. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1113910/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 31037] Re: Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections
Vino server is killing my machine. I use a Dell SX280 as a file server & to VPN. It worked flawlesly in ubuntu 10.04. After testing 12.04 on some other machines i decided to upgrade the server to 12.04. Big enormous mistake. Vino server at will puts the cpu to 99%, A vague idea is that at some point trying to VPN out-of-state to the box, the connection failed. Arriving home two days later the machine fan was screaming at full speed. This was 6 months ago. Nowadays 12.04 also reports a system failure for samba and (I guess) tries to send an error report. No idea if it goes thru, nor if it is related. My big problem is that I cannot find an answer/fix/workaround to prevent vino-server from overheating the little system. Any advice is much appreciated. [Bug 1113933] [NEW] bonding_err_ plugin needs a longer grep on 12.04
Public bug reported: The bonding_err_ plugin stopped working after upgrading 10.04 to 12.04. The cause is this line in the plugin: grep -A 2 "^Slave Interface: ${if}" ${PROCDIR}/${BONDINGIF} | grep "Link Failure Count:" | cut -d " " -f 4 This looks for a Link Failure Count line within 2 lines after the Slave Interface line. However on 12.04's 3.2-series kernel, the proc file looks like this: Slave Interface: eth1 MII Status: up Speed: 100 Mbps Duplex: full Link Failure Count: 0 Permanent HW addr: 00:21:5e:28:28:18 Slave queue ID: 0 Thus 2 lines is not sufficient. [Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop
Could this be the issue? **(he has a solution as well!)** http://www.jakobheinemann.de/en/blog.html [QUOTE] ...All necessary functions for reading and writing or creating are implemented within UEFI in its so called Runtime Services. One of those important functions is GetNextVariableName(). It's used for scanning through all UEFI variables, searching for boot entries. An explanation of that function can be found on http://wiki.phoenix.com/wiki/index.php/EFI_RUNTIME_SERVICES#GetNextVariableName.28.29 The implementation in Samsungs UEFI shows some weird behavior. Error code EFI_INVALID_PARAMETER should only be returned, if one of the given pointers to variables is NULL and pointing to an invalid memory section. Samsungs implementation also throughs this error, if the given memory blocksize is not exactly 128 bytes, so for example (like the Linux-efivars module does) 1024 bytes. The Linux module does not expect the strange error code (it checks for NULL pointers itself) and does not report any UEFI variables, no boot entries, no nothing. The installer accepts that and installs the Linux boot entry into the first slot, where actually the boot entry for the setup is located - overwriting that entry! Setup is dead since Linux took its boot entry.
