[Bug 1097396] Re: Unplugging USB Headset causes Kernel Panic
I have just run into this bug with a user who has the the stable 3.2 series in 12.04 (32 bit, all updates applied: can't immediately confirm their kernel version but it is the the 3.2.x). I am wondering if anyone has any info on if the 3.5 series (package in precise to provide this: linux-image-generic-lts-quantal) has the same issue or not? Reading the other links above, I am not able to understand if this may be a relatively "safe" update this user can apply to address the problem. Otherwise, it seems work is going on for an update to the 3.2 series? Thanks again to Chris and others here for the work in finding the problem. Any help for how to practically (and simply) make a recommendation to a non-tech user on how to solve the problem ("wait" or "update to quantal kernel, etc.) would be greatly appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1097396 Title: Unplugging USB Headset causes Kernel Panic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1097396/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1114887] [NEW] Random hangs with GDM3
Public bug reported: I am using GNOME Shell and experience random hangs while using GDM (v3) as the display manager on Ubuntu. The technical specifications are given below:- Ubuntu version: 12.10 amd64 linux version: 3.5.0-23.35 generic gdm version: 3.6.1-0ubuntu1 gnome-shell version: 3.6.2-0ubuntu0.2 gnome-session version: 3.6.0-0ubuntu1.1 System: Toshiba Satellite laptop C850-P5010 Graphics: Intel Sandybridge Mobile (Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09), also called Intel Integrated HD Graphics) I have installed all and only officially released updates for GDM, GNOME, X and the Linux kernel. The GDM Greeter log shows a "failed to create drawable" message. The hang either occurs randomly while starting the system or equally randomly if I log out and log in graphically several times in a row. I cannot duplicate the hang reliably. The system stops responding to all input and I need to force the power off to get out of the situation. I have also experienced the same problem on the Acer Aspire 5755. I have not installed/used the GDM3 Setup tool or changed any GDM parameters from the defaults. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "GDM Greeter log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1114887/+attachment/3513990/+files/gdm-greeter.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1114887 Title: Random hangs with GDM3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/1114887/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1093217] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 10-20min boot delay (From 3.2.0.29->3.2.0.30) [Lenovo IdeaPad Z580]
If the battery is removed from the laptop, then it will boot and reboot normally in a few seconds. Another observation is that after the slow boot, the line "ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery present)" shows up twice in dmesg. Once early on and again after the timeouts and AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP ACPI exception. But with the battery removed the line "ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery absent)" appears twice and only separated by a millisecond or so. I see there was a change to drivers/acpi/battery.c between 3.0.29 and 3.0.35. [Bug 1114856] [NEW] power button not working when Samsung laptop is booted in CSM mode; works fine in EFI mode
Public bug reported: When my Samsung NP700Z5C is booted in the CSM (BIOS compatibility) mode, pressing the power button has no effect. There is no scancode per "/lib/udev/keymap". However, when the same laptop is booted in the UEFI mode, the power button works perfectly fine. The problem is quite annoying because if the laptop is accidentally sent to sleep or hibernate mode, there is no return back from sleep/hibernate. Pressing the power button has no effect. The laptop can be turned off by long-pressing the power button, with the collateral loss of all unsaved data. [Bug 1087519] Re: Serial port ttyS4 doesn't work in 12.04
About the sharing of IRQ 17, which is hardware (?), this machine also runs in Windows 7 (completely separate hard drive, not seen in Linux), and the modem works fine there. So would Ubuntu treat this differently than Windows 7? I'll look in a few minutes about if this is in the BIOS, don't think it's a separate card. Also, since this is a confirmed bug, it probably happens on different systems, mobos, sound, etc. ? But since the boot line and the file info is different, how will I know how to undo the file effect at boot edit? " Dont worry about system boot upon GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX... change. You can always play with kernel options at boot time and revert changes." Just to make sure, your modem is internal, with a built-in serial port of it's own? What IRQ is your modem on? What IRQ is your sound on? How do I check on "Kernel complains about "nobody cares IRQ 17"" ? Or is this something that might be hidden by the - GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" in the grub file? Maybe I should remove this line value "quiet splash"? "What I found most interesting is that IRQ 17 appears in /proc/interrupts only while using minicom. [Bug 1097096] Re: can't scan more after "scan all from document feeder"
After some "apt-get upgrade" to Ubuntu 12.04-LTS I now get this exact same problem with a Brother MFC-8660DN. I don't know which upgrade caused the problem or when it started, but with the original Ubuntu 12.04-LTS I was able to make multiple runs. It never had this problem before. I have to quit from simple scan and restart in order to scan more pages. The last lines of simple-scan.log are: [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:818: sane_get_option_descriptor (12) [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:480: sane_control_option (4, SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, "Automatic Document Feeder") -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, "Automatic Document Feeder") [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:480: sane_control_option (2, SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, "True Gray") -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, "True Gray") [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:422: sane_control_option (3, SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, 150) -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, 150) [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:462: sane_control_option (10, SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, 215.84) -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, 215.880234) [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:462: sane_control_option (11, SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, 355.51) -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, 355.567444) [+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:1124: sane_start (page=0, pass=0) -> SANE_STATUS_NO_DOCS As you can see the last line says SANE_STATUS_NO_DOCS so it's saying that there are no documents even though there are. Quitting and restarting simple-scan allows you to use the scanner again, but this defeats the goal of being able to scan several times (e.g. front and back of pages) and combining them into one saved document. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1097096 Title: can't scan more after "scan all from document feeder" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/simple-scan/+bug/1097096/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
