[Bug 1097396] Re: Unplugging USB Headset causes Kernel Panic

2013-02-03 Thread Andy Iverson
I have just run into this bug with a user who has the the stable 3.2
series in 12.04 (32 bit, all updates applied: can't immediately confirm
their kernel version but it is the the 3.2.x).

I am wondering if anyone has any info on if the 3.5 series (package in
precise to provide this: linux-image-generic-lts-quantal) has the same
issue or not? Reading the other links above, I am not able to
understand if this may be a relatively "safe" update this user can apply
to address the problem.

Otherwise, it seems work is going on for an update to the 3.2 series?

Thanks again to Chris and others here for the work in finding the
problem. Any help for how to practically (and simply) make a
recommendation to a non-tech user on how to solve the problem ("wait" or
"update to quantal kernel, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 1060052] Re: gnome shell freezes on startup. intermittent

2013-02-03 Thread Tim
That is a GC Deadlock.

Backporting the patch from the attached upstream bug may help a little
bit, however the only real fix for this is to wait for updated
javascript engine. While this should make it into Raring, unlikely it
will make it into Precise.

[Bug 1108630] Re: mysql-workbench SQL Editor does not show any schemas

2013-02-03 Thread Rocko
Hmm. Maybe 5.2.45 isn't the best one to sync. It can open my schemas,
and view/edit the stored routines, but it doesn't show any information
from tables (I get blank output for 'SELECT * FROM schema.tablename'
statements.) Does anyone else experience that issue with 5.2.45?

[Bug 1114887] [NEW] Random hangs with GDM3

2013-02-03 Thread Saurav Sengupta
Public bug reported:

I am using GNOME Shell and experience random hangs while using GDM (v3)
as the display manager on Ubuntu. The technical specifications are given
below:-

Ubuntu version: 12.10 amd64
linux version: 3.5.0-23.35 generic
gdm version: 3.6.1-0ubuntu1
gnome-shell version: 3.6.2-0ubuntu0.2
gnome-session version: 3.6.0-0ubuntu1.1
System: Toshiba Satellite laptop C850-P5010
Graphics: Intel Sandybridge Mobile (Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core
Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09), also called Intel
Integrated HD Graphics)

I have installed all and only officially released updates for GDM,
GNOME, X and the Linux kernel. The GDM Greeter log shows a "failed to
create drawable" message. The hang either occurs randomly while starting
the system or equally randomly if I log out and log in graphically
several times in a row. I cannot duplicate the hang reliably. The system
stops responding to all input and I need to force the power off to get
out of the situation. I have also experienced the same problem on the
Acer Aspire 5755. I have not installed/used the GDM3 Setup tool or
changed any GDM parameters from the defaults.

[Bug 1093217] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 10-20min boot delay (From 3.2.0.29->3.2.0.30) [Lenovo IdeaPad Z580]

2013-02-03 Thread Tom Thompson
If the battery is removed from the laptop, then it will boot and reboot
normally in a few seconds.

Another observation is that after the slow boot, the line "ACPI: Battery
Slot [BAT1] (battery present)" shows up twice in dmesg. Once early on
and again after the timeouts and AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP ACPI exception.
But with the battery removed the line "ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1]
(battery absent)" appears twice and only separated by a millisecond or
so.

I see there was a change to drivers/acpi/battery.c between 3.0.29 and
3.0.35. See http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/ChangeLog-3.0.34

2013-02-03 Thread Michael Wisheu
Hi everyone,

Is there any ETA when the fix will be released for Precise?
I'm playing with the idea to push the proposed package to our fleet but would
hold back if the release would happen in the next days anyway.

Best,

Michael

[Bug 1114856] [NEW] power button not working when Samsung laptop is booted in CSM mode; works fine in EFI mode

2013-02-03 Thread Val
Public bug reported:

When my Samsung NP700Z5C is booted in the CSM (BIOS compatibility) mode,
pressing the power button has no effect. There is no scancode per
"/lib/udev/keymap". However, when the same laptop is booted in the UEFI
mode, the power button works perfectly fine.

The problem is quite annoying because if the laptop is accidentally sent
to sleep or hibernate mode, there is no return back from
sleep/hibernate. Pressing the power button has no effect. The laptop can
be turned off by long-pressing the power button, with the collateral
loss of all unsaved data.

[Bug 1057834] Re: Haier CE81B is not detected on 12.04

2013-02-03 Thread gandhi
Has it been fixed yet? I've had this issue for three months now, maybe this
modem would only be fully function on its own dashboard of which there's no
linux version for this modem to date.
The workaround works great and thank you for the added udev rule, normally with
just 'sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x201e product=0x10f8' on console and
connect it through Network-Manager, problem's solved.

[Bug 1087519] Re: Serial port ttyS4 doesn't work in 12.04

2013-02-03 Thread Roger Davis
About the sharing of IRQ 17, which is hardware (?), this machine also
runs in Windows 7 (completely separate hard drive, not seen in Linux),
and the modem works fine there. So would Ubuntu treat this differently
than Windows 7? I'll look in a few minutes about if this is in the
BIOS, don't think it's a separate card.

Also, since this is a confirmed bug, it probably happens on different
systems, mobos, sound, etc. ?

But since the boot line and the file info is different, how will I know
how to undo the file effect at boot edit? " Dont worry about system
boot upon GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX... change. You can always play with kernel
options at boot time and revert changes."

Just to make sure, your modem is internal, with a built-in serial port
of it's own? What IRQ is your modem on? What IRQ is your sound on?

How do I check on "Kernel complains about "nobody cares IRQ 17"" ? Or
is this something that might be hidden by the -
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" in the grub file? Maybe I
should remove this line value "quiet splash"?

"What I found most interesting is that IRQ 17 appears in
/proc/interrupts only while using minicom. It should be there or missing
all the time, AFAIK" - Any ideas on how to investigate this?

[Bug 1097096] Re: can't scan more after "scan all from document feeder"

2013-02-03 Thread Anonymous Linux User
After some "apt-get upgrade" to Ubuntu 12.04-LTS I now get this exact
same problem with a Brother MFC-8660DN.

I don't know which upgrade caused the problem or when it started, but
with the original Ubuntu 12.04-LTS I was able to make multiple runs.

It never had this problem before. I have to quit from simple scan and restart
in order to scan more pages. The last lines of simple-scan.log are:

[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:818: sane_get_option_descriptor (12)
[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:480: sane_control_option (4,
SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, "Automatic Document Feeder") -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD,
"Automatic Document Feeder")
[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:480: sane_control_option (2,
SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, "True Gray") -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, "True Gray")
[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:422: sane_control_option (3,
SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, 150) -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, 150)
[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:462: sane_control_option (10,
SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, 215.84) -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, 215.880234)
[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:462: sane_control_option (11,
SANE_ACTION_SET_VALUE, 355.51) -> (SANE_STATUS_GOOD, 355.567444)
[+53.78s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:1124: sane_start (page=0, pass=0) ->
SANE_STATUS_NO_DOCS

As you can see the last line says SANE_STATUS_NO_DOCS so it's saying that there
are no documents even though there are.

Quitting and restarting simple-scan allows you to use the scanner again,
but this defeats the goal of being able to scan several times (e.g.
front and back of pages) and combining them into one saved document.

[Bug 1110830] Re: [ICE1712 - M Audio Audiophile 24/96, playback] No sound at all

2013-02-03 Thread Raymond
it seem that pulseaudio no longer support ice1712 after the introduction
of profile of multi channels since the name of the volume controls are
not standard name and the number of playback and capture are 10/12

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/commit/?id=078a39af886ea3bb590595b973343af77c2837fe

if the thinkpad_acpi card can be ignored by modifying ENV{PULSE_IGNORE}="1" in
90-pulseaudio.rules

this may mean that you can add an entry to ignore your m-audio card and
you can run Jack server with your ice1712

is there any reason for you to disable the onboard sound ? (seem to be a
realtek codec according to the specification of the mothboard)
