[Bug 573153] Re: [Lucid] LyX install non-functional: LaTeX error claimed when starting new file

2013-02-24 Thread George Gill
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: lyx

I have installed a fresh version of Lucid Lynx. 10.04.

I installed lyx with apt-get install lyx

I run lyx and then press ctrl-n to create a new file (or, equivalently,
I load up an existing lyx file).

  I get the following error:

  LyX: Document class not available

The layout file requested by this document,
  article.layout,
is not usable. This is probably because a LaTeX
class or style file required by it is not
  available. See the Customization documentation
  for more information.
LyX will not be able to produce output.

- which is obviously rather damning for any useful operation of LyX...

[Bug 1040815] Re: unity, libreoffice and screensaver

2013-02-24 Thread Doug Lomax
I tested this on LibreOffice 3.5.7.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:2), Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
with a HP AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840T Processor × 4, using 32 bit.
My screen saver kicked in and all the opened OpenOffice applications were right
there.

[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2013-02-24 Thread D Bnonn Tennant
This is still happening to me as well, using 3.4.2-0ubuntu15. In fact, I
think 3.4.2-0ubuntu15 CAUSED the problem to recurr. I had experienced it
in the past and solved using the numlock workaround via dconf-editor.

Today I ran an update, and immediately afterward the problem came back.
I don't know for sure that the new version of g-s-d was installed with
this update, but it seems like a suspicious coincidence -- in any case,
I definitely do now have the new version installed.

Unfortunately, neither the numlock fix is working (since it was already
applied), nor removing /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/keyboard
.gnome-settings-plugin.

[Bug 1132595] [NEW] The volume labels in disks are illegible.

2013-02-24 Thread bluebomber
Public bug reported:

When I run the command gnome-disks, which seems to have replaced
palimpsest (?) in 12.10, the volume information label in the Volumes
diagram is barely legible. It is white on the ubuntu default light-grey
background, which doesn't provide enough contrast. Unselected volumes of
a drive are more legible (see attached screenshots).

Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

[Bug 1132531] Re: Error in date format for Wednesday

2013-02-24 Thread Timothy Arceri
The characters do not fit in the default column size so Calc displays
### rather than cutting off the text. This is a feature so you know that
there is more data. The column must default to a set size and there is
no good argument to widen them just so that this format fits, for
starters its a user defined format that Jesusfreak has defined not a
standard Calc format. Even if it was a Calc format you need to draw the
line somewhere for example Wednesday, 6 March 2013 is almost twice as
long.

I hope this clarifies why I marked the bug as invalid. The make it easy
for new users line is valid sometimes and other times user just need to
learn how the software works. This is one of those other times.

[Bug 1040873] Re: [N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all: Subwoofer not working

2013-02-24 Thread Raymond

 *** Without subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = No
 *** With subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = Yes

Pincap 0x0010: OUT

the point is the pincap of node 0x1e does not support pin detect, the
driver won't create Jack detect control

[Bug 1132531] Re: Error in date format for Wednesday

2013-02-24 Thread Jesusfreak
Thanks for the explanation. I just had no idea what ### could mean - its
not very intuitive. I do know that cells with the format Number/General
have a small red arrow at the right edge when content does not fit. This
is much easier to understand and I was expecting this here as well.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-02-24 Thread Rabit rabit
@Joe Carey, sorry about that, I thought you mention you still have the
logs so I assume different bugs. Cause this bug doesn't generate logs as
far as i know.

And Re: #713 fix,
After several days use my system seems to be more stable, I'm able to play
videos with relatively no problems. I think it did freeze only once after
playing videos/music.
But, almost everytime I run Virtualbox (after several minutes/hours) it does
freeze. Same symptom. So there's improvement, but not fixed yet, the bug still
there.

[Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2013-02-24 Thread Daniel J Blueman
I've been observing this happen once a week across a wide range of x86
systems with USB keyboards in the last (5?) years.

Since I've observed it in the virtual terminal and have never observed
this with PS/2 keyboards, I suspect there is an event race condition in
the USB input stack, eg a missing write barrier.

When I increase system latency, it looks like there's more chance of it
happening, so this feels like MMIO write ordering causing a lost key up
event.

[Bug 1114370] Re: [gm45] Hard hang when plugging, unplugging, or turning off LG 55LE5400 TV

2013-02-24 Thread Bruce Pierson
I tried to add the ppa:kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-experimental but
there doesn't seem to be anything in this repository for raring. So I
went with an alternative, I've added the xorg-edgers repository and
updated the kernel to v3.8, still no success. If anyone has any
suggestions regarding where to look inside the xorg-video-intel driver
source code where I might fix this, I can take a look and see if I can't
retool it, but I'd rather not start from scratch pouring over the whole
driver.

[Bug 488900] Re: Clock should request fixed width font

2013-02-24 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
gnome-panel is not maintained by Gnome anymore, but this could apply for
other desktop environments as well.

I don't think this is feasible. A good UI font should have the same
width in its numerals, so things like the clock don't jump around. While
this is true for the fonts Ubuntu has used by default for its UI (Vera
Sans/DejaVu, Ubuntu), if you change to a decorative font like Purisa,
then the problem is in Purisa (or not, I don't know if its creators
intended for it to ever be used for UI).

What you propose has already been done in a media player: Clementine.
And it looks weird.

[Bug 1078657] Re: glusterd does not reopen log files after logrotate

2013-02-24 Thread Toby Corkindale
Also, please note that the patch above from Calin Don *does not* resolve
this issue. This is because other Gluster daemons that are running, with
their own logfiles, also need to be HUPed in order to rotate their logs,
such as glustershd.

Also, I note that the log files in /var/log/glusterfs/bricks/ are not
listed in the logrotate file at all, and as such are not being rotated
either.

[Bug 1078657] Re: glusterd does not reopen log files after logrotate

Likewise on the clients, all the logs created by the FUSE clients are
not going to get HUPed. These don't create anything in /var/run so I'm
not sure what the best method to find their PIDs would be?

[Bug 1041790]

2013-02-24 Thread Norman Yarvin
I'm seeing this bug, or something like it, on an older chip (G965,
desktop version):

Feb 19 22:05:56 muttonhead kernel: [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck
timer elapsed... GPU hung
Feb 19 22:05:56 muttonhead kernel: [drm] capturing error event; look for more
information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
Feb 19 22:05:56 muttonhead kernel: [drm:kick_ring] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait
on render ring
Feb 19 22:05:57 muttonhead kernel: [drm:i915_reset] *ERROR* Failed to reset
chip.

after which the mouse pointer sticks in one spot (with most other things
working), and then when I shut down X, the console fails to appear,
requiring a reboot. Not knowing that the given file path was under
/sys/kernel, I failed to capture the error state, but will do so next
time this happens (which is maybe every other day). This is with a 3.7
kernel (Gentoo); before 3.7, the driver was stable. I don't know what
the 'generation' numbers in the driver mean, but I'm guessing that
generation 6 is later, so many of the suggested fixes would not make any
difference on this machine.

Good news, it is not this bug. Please make sure you have the latest
stable driver (a gentoo user not using 3.8 already! ;-) and latest xf86
-video-intel, then file a fresh bug report, attaching your dmesg,
Xorg.0.log and i915_error_state.

[Bug 1041790]

2013-02-24 Thread gneman
I subscribed to this bug because I was seeing this hang too. It happened
randomly several times, without a specific cause or way to reproduce it.

This was around December, and it happened maybe 4-5 times along a month.
The GPU would hang with that error in dmesg, and everything continued to
work, though very slowly.

However, I must say that since then it didn't happen again for almost 2
months maybe. I use Arch Linux, which means I always update to the
latest stable packages of everything, so it seems that for me it got
solved at some point (or at least much harder to reproduce).

This is an Ironlake / HD 2000 based Dell laptop. I did update the BIOS
when I found this bug report, but it didn't solve the problem, the hang
happened after updating it.

Getting the same problem upon a session restore. If I have no

If anything asks for a password during startup/session restore (chrome,

behave abnormally.

[Bug 1132629] [NEW] OpenGL no longer functioning

2013-02-24 Thread Michael Culbertson
Public bug reported:

I'm running a new install of Ubuntu 12.10 (uname -a: Linux nehemiah
3.5.0-25-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 18 23:27:42 UTC 2013 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux). Everything was working fine until I lost power
unexpectedly (my cat tripped the power strip switch...). When I
rebooted, Unity refused to load after logging in. I think I had some
updates pending reboot (I'm not sure which packages), so I'm not sure
whether the change is due to something getting jolted by the improper
shutdown or something wrong with the updated packages when the system
came back up.

Messages in .xsession-errors (attached, along with Xorg.0.log) suggest
that it's some problem with OpenGL. When Compiz tries to load the opengl
plugin, I get:

compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: opengl
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX)

compiz (core) - Info: Unity is not supported by your hardware. Enabling

compiz (core) - Error: Plugin initScreen failed: opengl
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to start plugin: opengl
compiz (core) - Info: Unloading plugin: opengl

I've tried re-installing the graphics drivers with:
apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel libgl1-mesa-glx
libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
reboot

But, this hasn't fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try.

[Bug 1132632] [NEW] usb-creator-gtk crashes every time I try to make a bootable USB stick

2013-02-24 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Sorry for filing this under the kernel, but I tried to find a place to
file bugs for usb-creator and the project isn't apparently configured
for bugs... and I couldn't find any other appropriate location :(

Anyway, usb-creator-gtk appears to get all the way to the end before
crashing. It always crashes when writing the boot data to my USB
drives. This only seems to happen when trying to make USB drives for
Precise (I'm running Quantal).

I tried filing a bug several times via ubuntu-bug but it always just
returned and never actually opened a launchpad page for me to file the
bug. Sigh...

I am dumping usb-creator as these sorts of issues have plagued it since
I started using it, and unetbootin always seems to work. But I thought
someone should know and take a look to try to sort out why it is
crashing. I've attached the crash file from /var/crash since I seem to
be unable to actually file the bug via apport.

[Bug 946232] Re: [Meta-bug] Missing speaker and/or internal mic port

2013-02-24 Thread David Henningsson
@Leandro,
For the new PulseAudio to improve the situation (i e, you would not have to use
the #32 workaround), you need to use it in combination with the backport kernel
( linux-image-generic-lts-quantal ).

@JoeZiehmer, could you attach your alsa-info (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo ) in order for me to commit a fix
upstream for future kernels?
