[Bug 1143796] [NEW] CVE-2013-0228

2013-03-03 Thread John Johansen
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

The xen_iret function in arch/x86/xen/xen-asm_32.S in the Linux kernel
before 3.7.9 on 32-bit Xen paravirt_ops platforms does not properly
handle an invalid value in the DS segment register, which allows guest
OS users to gain guest OS privileges via a crafted application.

[Bug 1143799] [NEW] gvfs and fstab mount

2013-03-03 Thread Koval Dmitry
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I need to mount some samba share to
different unprivilleged users in my system with different credentials.

My fstab:

#
proc/proc procnodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
/dev/sda1 / ext4errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/mapper/sda3_crypt /home ext4defaults0 2
/dev/mapper/sda2_crypt noneswapsw 0 0

//source /home/user1/destination/ cifs
credentials=/home/user1/.sambacr,uid=user1,gid=user1,iocharset=utf8,dir_mode=0750,file_mode=0640,nounix
0 0
//source /home/user2/destination/ cifs
credentials=/home/user2/.sambacr,uid=user2,gid=user2,iocharset=utf8,dir_mode=0750,file_mode=0640,nounix
0 0
etc

The mount works fine, but in the menu "Places" and sidebar of Nautilus
only one user can see mounted volume and all other didn't
Can i do visible mounted share for each user in menu "Places" and
sidebar of Nautilus?

Re: [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-03-03 Thread Mark
All 5 boots produced a usable X session. I haven't had a problem booting up
successfully since the 1st. By cold boot I just mean a normal power on
after a normal power off. In actual fact I haven't had to do a hard reset
(or manually hold down the power button to power off and then power on
again), with my current setup at all since the 1st of March, and even then
it was rare that I would have to have done it before that. And just to go
off topic a bit I find it amazing how quickly it does shut down, in
seconds, it's really cool!

[Bug 1126210] Re: GTK theme information not used (was: Fonts look non-optimal in Qt Creator)

2013-03-03 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Re the icon theme:

In QtBase 5.2, there is now a QGtk2Theme theme that supports reading
icon theme name from GtkSettings (also it enables native Gtk dialogs).
This makes the icon themes work in most cases.

To fix the issue in Ubuntu's QtBase 5.0, we can:

- Backport QGtk2Theme. The diff is very huge (see
https://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qtbase/commit/ebca7d2ea71440b0), so I don't much
like that.
- Use my original XSettings implementation (linked above). This goes against
the Kubuntu patching policy
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kubuntu/Specs/MaverickPatchPolicy#Rule_Set), but I
hope we can get an exception for that. It can then be dropped when we have
QtBase 5.2.

Timo, what do you think?

2013-03-03 Thread Martin
With Xubuntu 12.04 and prior, indicator-multiload worked well. However
with Xubuntu 12.10, it seems that indicator-multiload is loaded into the
Xubuntu "indicator Plugin" which only allows an Icon width, causing
indicator-multiload to display very small and is essentially useless.

I however found that executing it as root, causes indicator-multiload
to load into the main panel and it works correctly. It might be a
security risk, but to do this, edit the Xubuntu startup item and change
the command to gksudo indicator-multiload. At least in this way I can
use this great app.

i tried to search for how to do that, just to be sure, but all i've
found so far is hundreds of ubuntu wiki pages explaning the logic behind
the status. not a single about the mechanics of how to use this site to
actually change it. So i can't be 100% sure that i lack access or just
that i'm being dumb and not seeing the link.

[Bug 1143538] [NEW] FLAC playback cuts short

2013-03-03 Thread Samuel Coleman
Public bug reported:

When playing certain files, playback abruptly and prematurely ceases at
a position apparently specific to the file. This appears to be an issue
with playback of only a small portion of the song; if I use a player
capable of seeking and seek to past the point of failure, playback
continues normally. I initially noticed this problem with Quot Libet,
but can consistently reproduce it in Totem so I'm led to believe it's
GStreamer that has the problem, and not the consuming application.

Neither of the aforementioned applications present any errors (to
stderr, internal error log, or as a popup message) when encountering the
issue, and simply continue to the next song in the playlist.
Additionally, `flac -t "$file"` does not report any issues with affected
files, and both `flac -dc "$file" | aplay` and `ffplay "$file"`
correctly play affected files, proving that the issue exists with
GStreamer, and not the file itself (or at least, proving that GStreamer
behaves in a far less fault-tolerant manner than other options).

An example file, available at
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwkONbGn86mBXzRTRDZtZkI0Y0E/edit?usp=sharing,
dies about 0:03 in, so you don't have to wait very long to experience
it.

This bug is a cross-post from the upstream bug #695044, visible at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695044. The official 0.10
maintainer has confirmed the issue, but wants nothing to do with it,
which is unfortunate, given that it affects all applications using 0.10,
and given the ABI/API differences between 0.10 and 1.0, its solution is
not a simple “recompile the application to use 1.0”.

[Bug 1084849] Re: package postgres-xc 1.0.0-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2013-03-03 Thread llanited...@veawb.coop
I manually removed the postgres-xc folder from usr/share. Then I
attempted both...

$ sudo dpkg --purge postges-xc

followed by
$ sudo apt-get remove postgres-xc

then repeated the first command.
All returned the same error: "invoke-rc.d: initscript postgres-xc, action
"stop" failed."

The postgres-xc folder is still absent. Entering "$ sudo initdb -D
/usr/local/pgsql/data" continues to return the "initdb: Postgres-XC node
name is mandatory" error.

As far as I can get, Postgresql is still unusable for me.

[Bug 1143495] [NEW] udisks reporting input/output error that seems to be nonsense

2013-03-03 Thread Phillip Susi
Public bug reported:

My syslog is full of entries that look like this:

Mar 3 12:06:45 faldara udisksd[2630]: Error performing housekeeping for
drive
/org/freedesktop/UDisks2/drives/WDC_WD360GD_00FNA0_WD_WMAH91337618:
Error updating SMART data: sk_disk_smart_status: Input/output error
(udisks-error-quark, 0)

And opening the disks utility shows invalid smart data, and choosing to
update the smart data also reports an I/O error. Using smartctl on the
command line though says this disk is fine:

root@faldara:~# smartctl -a /dev/sdc

[Bug 1138219] Re: ia32-libs won't install

2013-03-03 Thread Dave Lentz
This looks similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/1131487

@Rainer: I would not have suggested trying a newer Crossover .deb if I
knew it wasn't a free upgrade. I also want to reiterate that you should
expect these snafus with the development version of Ubuntu...

[Bug 1142993] Re: Desktop Organize

2013-03-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
While GNOME Shell by default doesn't have desktop icons, GNOME 3.8
includes a new GNOME Classic mode which does show desktop icons by
default using Nautilus. What was removed this cycle is Nautilus handling
the desktop wallpaper which is not the same as handling icons on the
desktop.

[Bug 1142211] Re: .....

2013-03-03 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
