[Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2013-03-24 Thread Abhisek Mukherjee
One thing to suggest is from install media when kernel is loaded it uses
lz compression, but when installed in HDD it uses gz compression, which
is definitely bigger in size. xz or lz should be used in vmlinuz.

[Bug 1159440] [NEW] Nautilus not showing status bar by default

2013-03-24 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

In 13.04, Nautilus is not showing the status bar on the bottom when
entering a folder with many items on it. It only shows the status bar
when I select the items in it, but not by default when I go inside a
folder. It should, like in the past, tell me how many items are shown
(Folder and files) and how much free space is left.

There is no option to activate this via gui either.

[Bug 1159430] [NEW] Nautilus 3.7.92 does not display desktop background

2013-03-24 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

I'm on Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring), running Nautilus 3.7.92 from the GNOME 3
PPA (https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3). This version

[Bug 988251] Re: Nautilus cut, copy, paste, move and rename options are greyed out and stop working

2013-03-24 Thread Sepero
This bug is almost a year old now. As an open source developer, I would
be ashamed of letting such fundamental bugs like this go on so long.
F**k features and give me some basic functionality.

Anyway, I found a solution to the problem- switch to another filemanager
like Thunar. It's light-weight and fast.

[Bug 1159201] Re: Automated "crash" report booting Lubuntu live i386 20130322

2013-03-24 Thread Erick Brunzell
Please also see bug #1159239. Additional testing shows that this occurs
with both the 20130322 and 20130323 Lubuntu i386 images and also the
Ubuntu 20130324 i386 image.

Additionally with Lubuntu images I get 3 to 4 minutes of pop-up messages
saying "Connected", then "Disconnected" repetitively. With the Lubuntu
images this happens both in the live session and post-install.

But somewhat oddly I have a fully updated Lubuntu Raring that was
installed with this media, "Lubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Alpha i386
(20130127)", and it works perfectly.

I don't think these log files will be useful for you, and I don't think
you need to see the log files to solve this problem, because it's a bug
that you already solved in the previous version. Anyway if you need to
have the kernel log file when I plug in the docking station after the
boot just ask me.

[Bug 1029790] Re: Can't boot without nomodeset option-kernel 3.5.X.X/3.6.X.X ATI M52 [Mobility Radeon X1300]

2013-03-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

I'm using Ubuntu quantal (development branch), since the new 3.5 kernel
coming, I can't boot I don't know where is the problem, kernel or ati module,
but with 3.4 kernel there is no problem booting the Ubuntu.
When choose the 3.5 kernel from grub menu and start loading, after 10-15
seconds, just freeze, and can't do anything. I tried and mainline kernel from
kernel-ppa/mainline but no change, still can't boot.

A Ubuntu kernel version bisect revealed that 3.4.0-5.11 works and the
first problematic kernel is 3.5.0-1.1 .
+
+ WORKAROUND: 1. edit grub command line to add 'nomodeset' and boot.
+
+ 2. Then add 'nomodeset' in GRUB2's kernel command line (using
+ GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub) and run 'sudo update-grub'
+
+ 3. Add the following to /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
+ modprobe -r radeon
+ modprobe -r drm
+ modprobe radeon modeset=1
+
+ 4. Remove ~/.Xauthority
+
+ 5. Reboot

  WORKAROUND: Use kernel parameter:
  nomodeset

However, with nomodeset, 3D don't work correctly, cant use normal unity
session, unity 2D session works but with artifacts.

[Bug 1080701] Re: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs

2013-03-24 Thread col reilly
struggled with this for ages (same thing's happening with xubuntu 13.04)
installing from usb.
got it working in the end by
mounting all partitions except for the partition that would become /
sudo swapoff -a
saying 'no' when the installer asked if it wanted me to let it unmount the
partitions.
thanks for all our pointers everyone. this needs to get fixed though.

[Bug 955269] Re: Apport bugs me and you. Reports simple things multiple times, takes user's time

2013-03-24 Thread TBeholder
I would phrase it a little differently: existing interface is not
designed for typical usage.

If this was userspace filesystem, the user may want to restart it immediately
without waiting for the window to be sorted out, but if this was pdfgrep
running from a script over collection of documents including known buggy files,
may be uninterested in as much as looking at the command line one more time.
So what would help is adding under other controls a few simple checkboxes with
obvious logic:
[ ] Automatically accept these choices for this...
- [x] ...Application.
- [x] ...Problem Type.
- [x] ...during this session only.
With possibility to reset this somewhere in setup, of course.
But without any context at all what apport-gtk window asks is meaningless, thus
common sense suggests showing at least executable path and package name right
away, without opening anything.

[Bug 1159414] [NEW] Xorg freeze - GPU lockup

2013-03-24 Thread Andrew Seyes
Public bug reported:

The following GPU lokcup occurs when I boot ubuntu 13.04:
[ 47.900046] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 1msec
[ 47.900053] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup (waiting for 0x0003
last fence id 0x0001)

I switched to the Mainline kernels as per the Wiki and found I can run
kernel 3.8.0-030800rc3-generic with no problems, but any attempt to run
a later version of the kernel results in the lockup shown above.

Have just applied the latest updates to my system whcih brought in
kernel 3.8.0.14 but I still get the same problem with that.

virtual terminal CRTL-ATL-F1 will still work) and grab the
dmesg/Xorg.0.log/i915_error_state or you can try running 'apport-collect

[Bug 1159352] Re: "Download updates while installing" stuck

2013-03-24 Thread Christopher Forster
Defect USB drive? I created the bootable Live USB drive using
UNetbootin. I booted the Live USB and ran "Check disc for defects" which
did not complete. Ctrl+Alt+F1 gives the following message: "Disabling
IRQ #18". It could also be a buggy Live media at alpha stage. I could
try to run the daily build using VirtualBox.

Example pptx file that doesn't render in impress correctly.

When you open a PPTX file in impress it doesn't preserve the text
effects.

To reproduce open example.pptx . There is a black text with a shadow and
a white outline in the center of the slide. However, impress renders the
text white with no effects. It basically renders it useless.

[Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to Eduroam (worldwide WiFi network for university students)

2013-03-24 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
I'm marking this again as new, cause the definition of invalid says that
it should be a support request which it is not, because canonical cannot
provide support to solve it.

most people don't know what a CA certificate is, so you can't leave it
this way, cause they will say, that ubuntu just cannot connect and they
are moving back to windows... you have to consider what normal people
will think about this.

[Bug 1159409] [NEW] "Rename..." menu option falsely greyed out (still works though)

2013-03-24 Thread nik frank
Public bug reported:

After ctrl+c (copy), ctrl+v (paste) -ing a file a number of times, I
went to rename the duplicates. The "Rename..." menu option in the right
click menu was greyed out erroneously; the option still worked when
clicked however.

Not that this caused me any problems, I figure a less obstinate person
might be fooled into not doin what they want -> bad.

lsb_release -rd

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

[Bug 1071865] [NEW] Keystone PKI token length hits cookie size limit

2013-03-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When Keystone's PKI tokens are enabled the length of the token itself is
3.95kb, nearly exceeding the cookie size limit without any additional
data. This makes PKI tokens incompatible with the cookie session backend
in Horizon. We need a way to detect/configure support for this so it
doesn't bite users in unexpected ways.

** Affects: keystone (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Critical
 Assignee: Gabriel Hurley (gabriel-hurley)
 Status: Fix Released

** Affects: keystone
 Importance: High
 Assignee: Adam Young (ayoung)
