[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Few weeks ago we moved from 10.04 to 12.04 at work. Mostly because of newer machines had problems with older kernels (no SATA, no sound). I have to admit that 10.04 was light years away from 12.04 when it comes to stability. There was mean time between crashes measured in weeks, when 12.04 can have 10 crashes in one hour. It's really disappointing. Right now I'm upgrading kernel to 3.2.0-41 and hoping it will fix freezes and crashes before coleagues at work crucifies me. Will report after few days if that helped. If not, I have no clue what will I do since I'm running out of options. So if anyone can help me pointing in right direction or what can I do to help developers find and kill this annoying bug, I'm here. Oh and those 60 machines at work are all from DELL, models Optiplex 380SFF, 390 SFF and 1030SFF. Just what's built in, with Intel graphics and all runing on Gnome Classic - no Unity. All machines are connected to network and has mounted Samba and NFS shares, each one of 100 users uses mostly Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Audacity, VLC and some custom developed software. Ironicaly Ubuntu HCL lists those machines as compatible when clearly they far from that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. I'll take a look at this, and probably issue an SRU (Stable Release Update) for this within the next day or so. Status being changed to "In Progress" because I'm working on getting this fixed. Importance set to "Medium" because it has a moderate impact on the software, and because there is no fix short of downloading the source yourself and recompiling the software. Notes: This could be caused by the introduction of a patch to the software that adds Ubuntu branding to the version string. [Bug 1004775] Re: NetworkManager restarts dnsmasq and adds host route on every IPv6 route lookup
As I understand it, the NM SRU to precise updates the package to unconditionally use the dbus interface for updates. This means that the package needs a versioned dependency on the SRU version of dnsmasq-base that *enables* the dbus interface; otherwise this can break for users if they happen to install the NM SRU without the dnmasq SRU. I'm rejecting the package from the precise-proposed queue. Mathieu, can you please reupload with a fix for the dnsmasq versioned dependency? ** Description changed: [Impact] This issue affects all users of NetworkManager in a dual stack (IPv4 w/ IPv6 on the same network) environment. When any router advertisement is received, NetworkManager restarts dnsmasq in order to update the DNS configuration it uses. This change modifies the method of update of dnsmasq to use DBus methods instead of writing a configuration file; which avoids having to restart the daemon to re-read the configuration. kill -USR1 can be used to output to syslog the current DNS servers used by dnsmasq. [Test Case] 1) Run NetworkManager in an dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 environment. 2) Verify that dnsmasq does not get restarted when a router advertisement is received. + 3) Verify that DNS server settings are updated when stopping/starting a connection with NM. [Regression Potential] This change affects the underlying daemon used by NetworkManager to help with DNS resolution on the system. This daemon is updated via DBus. Since the method of update is changed; this may affect the resulting effective configuration of dnsmasq and break DNS resolution in case of a regression. NetworkManager stops and starts dnsmasq very frequently (every few minutes). During the brief window that dnsmasq is restarting, hostname resolution doesn't work. dnsmasq is getting restarted frequently enough that I see brief hostname resolution errors in Chrome several times a day during normal web browsing. This is on Precise with network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4 and dnsmasq- base 2.59-4. The frequent restarts seem to be triggered by IPv6 route advertisements on my network. (See log snippet below.) When NetworkManager gets a route advertisement, it reconfigures everything. In the case of dnsmasq, this means stopping dnsmasq, writing a new config file, and starting dnsmasq. NetworkManager should restart dnsmasq only if it its configuration changes. I'm attaching a snippet from /var/log/daemon.log on my system that demonstrates a restart. This is with debug logging configured in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004775 Title: NetworkManager restarts dnsmasq and adds host route on every IPv6 route lookup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1004775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1178098] [NEW] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::WindowCompositor::SetKeyFocusArea()
Public bug reported: Not sure if I should go ahead and change this to a nux bug, instead of compiz, from the stacktrace. But I'm sure those who know better will sort that out easily. I opened the dash, via the keyboard, then opened a preview of a file, also via the keyboard (the menu key). I wanted to open the folder the file was in, rather than the file directly. So in the preview, I tried to keyboard-navigate to do that. I tried a few keys, like Tab and Shift-Tab. I can't recall what key I hit first; I couldn't tell for several seconds that compiz had locked up, and I was trying a few different keys. I haven't tried reproducing yet, 'cause I've barely got time to write this up; no time to trigger another crash. (An aside: I know compiz will be supported in LTS releases for a while, but still I'm not sure how much attention may go to compiz issues, now that it's deprecated for a future of Mir. Any comment on bugs like this, in general, is welcome.) Thanks! This looks like a multiarch mismatched files bug, but as the below testing shows, the changelogs are identical on all five arches. apport reported that the file was changed on-disk, so the only assumption I can make here is that there was either corruption at install time, or manual mangling of the file locally between installation of one arch and another. [Bug 1178090] [NEW] Existing header not overwritten when using the 'always' condition with Header set
Public bug reported: I have an application that sets some headers, but I also have Apache setting them as well to handle some special cases. I'm using the mod_headers syntax of 'Header always set X-Foo "bar"'. I specifically use the 'always' condition table, as I want to include these headers on non-2xx responses (such as 301, 302). However, if I use 'always' (instead of the default 'onsuccess' condition table), the headers are duplicated, which goes against what the 'set' action is supposed to do (overwrite any existing header). STR: * Have some app served by Apache set 'X-Foo: bar' * Add 'Header always set X-Foo "bar"' to Apache config * Notice duplicate headers * Remove the 'always' condition, and everything will be fine (only one header) Package: apache2 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.10 Distibution: Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS ** Affects: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178090 Title: Existing header not overwritten when using the 'always' condition with Header set To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1178090/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1173253] Re: bnx2 transmit queue timeouts with linux 2.6.32-46.107
The server now has an uptime of 9 days on 2.6.32-46.105 and the issue has not come back. I'm convinced this bug is a regression in 2.6.32-46.107. I've added apport-collect info from the working kernel, and I've set the status back to Confirmed as that's what Brad's bot had it on. For lack of better ideas, I've prepared a kernel like 2.6.32-46.108 but with 267a6bfc reverted. I'm going to run that kernel for a while and see what happens. I'm still working to get access to another server with the same hardware, where I can run tests without interrupting mail service. [Bug 1173253] Re: bnx2 transmit queue timeouts with linux 2.6.32-46.107
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Our mail server has its backups on a storage array which is mounted via iSCSI. Starting April 11th, there have been 5 events where the iSCSI connection has been lost and the filesystem has been automatically remounted read-only as a result. The server and storage array are directly connected by gigabit Ethernet; no switch in between. We changed the cable and this is still happening. On April 9th we upgraded to linux-image-2.6.32-46-server 2.6.32-46.107 and these events happened on April 11, 14, 15. On April 19th we upgraded to linux-image-2.6.32-46-server 2.6.32-46.108 and these events happened April 22 and 25. The dedicated connection is more or less idle except when a backup is happening. The timing of the events doesn't appear to correspond to high load; they have happened in the middle of the day as well as overnight. The backups run every night, so it's not happening every time. I'll work more on trying to reproduce. Restarting the interface (ifdown eth1 && ifup eth1) returns everything to normal; a reboot is not necessary. http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=6249 seems like it might be similar. The reporter said it was resolved in CentOS 6.4.
