[Bug 1175093] Re: K3520-Z mode not switched automatically

2013-05-09 Thread Dane Maslen
I had decided that the next thing to do was to try to get debug output
from usb_modeswitch. In my efforts to find out how to do this I came
across

  http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/#trouble

which includes a couple of notes about devices with ID 19d2:2000. The
K3520-Z is one such device.

One of the notes is to the effect that newer kernels attempt to switch
the mode of some devices and get it wrong for ID 19d2:2000, thereby
messing things up for usb_modeswitch. I've no idea whether that is what
is happening to me (if it is, then this is a kernel problem), but the
revelation that the kernel switches the mode of some devices probably
explains why my K3770 switches mode without usb_modeswitch getting
involved.

[Bug 1173611] Re: Software center's category menu is unreadable with GTK 3.8

2013-05-09 Thread Tim
It appears here that GtkLabel is not getting the correct calculated
height when text wrapping is enabled. Probably this is a gtk bug,
however I cannot reproduce it with gtk git master (I also can't find any
commits that look like they would resolve the issue).

Linked branch works around the issue by disabling text-wrapping in the
category pane, however its probably best to find and fix the underlying
bug.

[Bug 1178539] [NEW] gdb 7.6 can take tens of seconds to resolve symbols in C++

2013-05-09 Thread Constantine Sapuntzakis
Public bug reported:

See http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=15454
filed by me.

Reverting 677b1bf from the gdb git repository fixes the problem.

In this revision, gdb started searching the base classes for the symbol
too. The algorithm seems to require optimization.

Meanwhile, the problem can be worked with a one-line diff that reverts
the behavior to the pre-677b1bf. Attaching the patch

[Bug 1178540] [NEW] package postgresql-common 140 failed to upgrade during upgrade to ubuntu 13.04 (install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1)

2013-05-09 Thread Novikov Andrey
Public bug reported:

I've launch upgrade process on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit from command line
(do-release-upgrade) and have eventually switch off computer some time later.
Next morning PC wasn't started up.

I've done next steps from recovery mode root console:

mount -o remount,rw /
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get check
apt-get update
apt-get install -f
apt-get upgrade

And then reboot, system (Ubuntu 13.04 on the old 3.5 kernel) have booted
up, and I've performed partial upgrade from GUI and finished upgrade to
13.04. Except of postgresql and mysql packages.

Now `apt-get check` doesn't claims about anything, but apport filed this

[Bug 1178534] [NEW] error processing grub-efi-amd64 (2.00-13ubuntu3) in 13.04

2013-05-09 Thread Leon Maurer
Public bug reported:

After a Windows install, I ran in to boot problems and tried running
boot-repair. That's when I first encountered this error. That has been
previously reported in Bug #1175018 (and one other bug, I think).

However, after running boot-repair, I was able to boot the linux install on my
hard drive. (It wasn't quite the same as before; there was no splash screen.)
However, I'm stilling having the error. For example:

[Bug 1175897] Re: PPTP VPN Service failed to start after upgrade to 13.04

2013-05-09 Thread Mikkel Hagen
I just got this working on my system. I have ubuntu 13.04 in a vm
running on a windows host using virtualbox. I randomly changed the
networking this morning from a NATed interface to a bridged interface
and I changed the emulated network device from the Intel PRO/1000 MT
Desktop to the PCnet-FAST III adapter. And tonight I connected with my
pptp vpn in the ubuntu vm no problem. I am not sure if one or both of
the changes fixed it, but it seems to be working away just fine for the
last severl hours and I have even been able to disconnect and reconnect
several times.

[Bug 1160995] Re: Suspend isn't triggered by lid close

2013-05-09 Thread Martin Pitt
For ubuntu-gnome I guess we want to SRU this particular fix, plus these
two from 198-0ubuntu12:

 * debian/rules: Don't build ddebs for blacklisted binary packages.

  * Use the shutdown fallback for "poweroff.target" too; this is invoked by
org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.PowerOff (LP: #1171504)

Adding a raring task here and to bug 1171504.

[Bug 1178147] Re: qmlscene not pulling all required dependencies

2013-05-09 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I believe this only happens when you've mixed versions of libraries and
do only selected update instead of apt-get upgrade?

But true, probably all dependencies should have a strict version number
requirement in this case, since Qt does not allow for example some
libraries to be older version like 5.0.0 and some newer like
5.0.1/5.0.2.

[Bug 1064155] Re: [SRU Regression] Launcher and Global Menu are completely black after exiting fullscreen from certain apps

2013-05-09 Thread Aaron Johnson
Christopher-

I went ahead and patched unity and compiz using your code on ubuntu
raring 64-bit and it appears to have fixed the issue :)

I really wish I knew how to program... It's amazing that the fix for
this bug was just a single line change to
plugins/unityshell/src/unityshell.cpp.

The compiz patch you wrote is a bit more in-depth though...

Thanks again!

2013-05-09 Thread Francois Thirioux
(Thanks to avoid me another test :-) )

I noticed that there are a lot of stuff about e1000 and pm in :

https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/stable-
review/patch-3.8.13-rc1.xz

Obviously I cannot understand them but it seems (to me !) to be somewhat
related to this bug. I'll test the Ubuntu 3.8.13 version when available.

[Bug 1160729] Re: easytag does not start

2013-05-09 Thread Nick B.
I ran into this bug too. Definitely looks to be related to the oxygen-gtk
theme. Dirty workaround without having to disable oxygen-gtk or run as root:
GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc easytag

This will run only easytag with the Clearlooks theme. Doesn't look very
nice in KDE but it works.

[Bug 1171192] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 2- Intel HD Graphics 3000 - No screen

2013-05-09 Thread Eder Andrés Ávila Niño
Oh, excuse me. My laptop suffered a fatal error possible due to
mainboard factory failure. It showed the error message 'Thermal Shutdown
Occurred' and I cannot boot it again. Sent to HP support for maintenance
and repair. However, I found this interesting info about HP sometimes
puts glitches to avoid installing another operating systems:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-Questions/Startup-Error-
System-Temperature-90D/td-p/158801/page/4

So, I can't continue helping with this thread until I HP checks my
notebook. I don't know if this could be an Ubuntu bug or a Hardware
failure.

Excuse me for this inconvenient. After that, I'll retry this time with
the Ubuntu 13.04 stable release.

Yes, 3.8.12 exhibits the bug. Before I found the upstream bug report, I

[Bug 1174461] Re: Error after installing compiz 0.9.9 - /usr/lib/compizconfig/backends/libgconf.so: cannot open shared object

2013-05-09 Thread Sam Spilsbury
Actually, it appears as though the default is to use the gsettings
backend. So if it is complaining about a missing gconf backend then you
likely just need to remove any local configuration that would have made
it used that (now that it is removed by default).

rm -rf ~/.config/compiz-1

[Bug 1170183] Re: can not boot up in uefi secure boot mode unbuntu 13.04, can run in a live from cd uefi secure mode. will boot non secure boot mode

2013-05-09 Thread Ubfan
I too wound up with \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi as a uefi boot entry on a
machine which had always had secure boot enabled. This was caused by an
earlier grub-install which left a corrupt /EFI/ubuntu directory, which
gave an IO error on any attempted access. After fixing the corrupted
directory, rerunning grub-install --uefi-secure-boot added a new,
correct ubuntu/shimx63.efi entry. Looks like the error checking on
grub-install might need a little improvement -- looks like a check for
shim failed, but only because the directory itself was unreadable.

[Bug 1178506] [NEW] Cannot switch between juju-0.7 and juju-core

2013-05-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

We're in the process of installing and testing the Go ported version of
Juju. It is currently installed on a server alongside the Python version
(juju-0.7). We have services already deployed using the Python version
so we need to make that the default while we test, and eventually
transition across to the Go version.

As per the docs, https://juju.ubuntu.com/get-started/, it seems to
indicate that we can use the following command to make 0.7 the default:

  $ sudo update-alternatives --set juju /usr/lib/juju-0.7/bin/juju

Unfortunately, juju-core stomps on /usr/bin/juju and setting the
alternative wipes out the Go version's binary.

[hloeung@darkon tmp]$ sudo update-alternatives --set juju
/usr/lib/juju-0.7/bin/juju
[sudo] password for hloeung:
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative
/usr/lib/juju-0.7/bin/juju because link group juju is broken
update-alternatives: warning: not replacing /usr/bin/juju with a link
update-alternatives: warning: not replacing /usr/share/man/man1/juju.1.gz with
a link

[hloeung@darkon tmp]$ dpkg-query -L juju-core
/.
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/man
/usr/share/man/man1
/usr/share/man/man1/juju.1.gz
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/juju-core

/usr/share/doc/juju-core/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/jujud
/usr/bin/juju
[hloeung@darkon tmp]$

Any chance we could have this fixed?

Thanks,

Haw

Hi Harry,

I see that you have more than one issue with your Dell Latitude D800
notebooks, and I can understand that you might hesitate to try my
Lubuntu-fake-pae because of expected problems with the nvidia graphics.
The only thing I can say is that I have a few older nvidia chips that
work with the present version of nouveau (but these are is desktop
computers, not in any computer with Pentium M CPU).

- Which distro and version are you running right now, and what about the
end of life of that version?

- Is there any bug report about your issue with nouveau?

- Have you tried any proprietary nvidia driver?

Best regards
sudodus

[Bug 1157332] Re: /etc/dnsmasq.d-available/lxc circular link

2013-05-09 Thread Seth Arnold
I tested libvirt-bin on quantal: the current archive version does not
properly re-create /etc/dnsmasq.d/libvirt-bin symbolic link when
installed, uninstalled, and re-installed.

The -proposed version does properly re-create the /etc/dnsmasq.d
/libvirt-bin symbolic link.

(Ignore the verification-done -> -needed -> -done toggling; I mis-read
my terminal's scrollback when transcribing details here.)

[Bug 1177950] Re: ls does not work on raring with all updates

2013-05-09 Thread C de-Avillez
Hi Robert,

That's interesting. It does work on mine Raring (both of them); but I
_do_ have libcap2 installed.

Libcap2 is a dependency for policycorelinux, but I cannot see any
depends that would zero in coreutils except for selinux-related. So, if
licap2 is now a hard dependency for coreutils, we will need to adjust
the package. But nobody else has reported, to my knowledge, anything
like this...

I will rename the libcap.so.2, and try 'ls' here in a few.

[Bug 1178505] [NEW] NetworkManager only allows balanced-rr bond modes

2013-05-09 Thread Christopher Edwards
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 13.04
Release:13.04

network-manager:
  Installed: 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6
  Candidate: 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I am attempting to use the new bonding interface in NetworkManager in 13.04.
NetworkManager will not write any other mode than "Round-robin" to the
configuration file.

For example I can choose "Active Backup" when editing the bond, save and
close the NetworkManager. When I open it again, the mode is once again
set to "Round-robin" and not my previously checked "Active Backup" when
I closed NetworkManager.

Also if I edit "/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Bond\ Connection\
1" by hand to have any other mode, NetworkManager resets the value on
open of the application.
