Yes, I think using FT_Stream is more robust than what we have right now.

What kind of logic do you have in mind? I don't think we need to do

Marked this invalid so it should fall off in sixty days. Moved it off

WONTFIX if they feel up to it otherwise it will agg off on its own.

2013-05-25 Thread Jacob Cram
Jon,
Could you please outline what steps I would need to take to duplicate how
you have the current kernal booting on your computer?

Currently it sounds like you are running a recompiled DSDT and getting
it to load with grub, but I am not 100% clear. Thanks for any
suggestions you can provide.

Also, are things still working for you since your last post?

[Bug 1073114] Re: Shopping Lens Does Not Respect User Privacy

2013-05-25 Thread A. Denton
The bug is unassigned since no one whats to have the responsibility I
assume. Honestly I came to Xubuntu and Canonical (to a certain extend)
years ago since I was fed up with M$ and their broken system. At present
however I'm in the middle of a migration to FreeBSD -- also because of
bugs like this one. By the way I agree with the last commenter, Jeroen
Hoek. I don't have the time to read every newsletter or announcement but
at least some of them. I never received an explanation either and
probably never will. In my opinion its O.K. for a company like Canonical
to make profit like Red Hat and others do but its not O.K. to do it like
M$ or companies like these.

[Bug 148454] Re: console-kit-daemon spawns too many threads

2013-05-25 Thread A. Denton
See #101 and #128, please. I suggested you to do nothing at all. The
memory consumption has nothing to do with the bugs name "console-kit-
daemon spawns too many threads" (comment #107, #108, #110, #116) in my
opinion. And threads are not "expensive" when it comes to context
changes. Also some people here seem not to understand the concept of
virtual memory. The developer from freedesktop.org pointed that out
AFIR.

My opinion is still: do nothing at all. Neither is it worth the time nor
is this bug from 2007-10-03 still an issue. The old UNIX system V init
system is not the latest technology and superseded mostly although not
exclusively by systemd. Additionally the latest stable kernel version is
now 3.9.3 and in Ubuntu 10.04.x LTS its 3.2.0-xx LTS kernel (until 2016)
or via LES (EnablementStack) its 3.5.0 and 3.8.0 from quantal and raring
respectively.

I do not have the powers to change this bug to WONT FIX state. Someone
here at Launchpad either give that permission to me or mark it as such,
please.

[Bug 1168593] Re: Occasional Assertion Failure causing crash in dispose_chunk in chunk.c

2013-05-25 Thread Sean Young
Alright, recompiled with libsegfault as one of the included libraries
(forcing better line numbers in dumps), and got the line number of the
assertion failure, chunk.c:398:dispose_chunk.

Line numbers for the whole stack still aren't showing up (ugh), but I
can see that it is happening when it is called from the method
httpServerHandler(), when that method is called by do_scheduled_stream()

Alright, recompiled with libsegfault as one of the included libraries
(forcing better line numbers in dumps), and got the line number of the
assertion failure, chunk.c:398:dispose_chunk.

Line numbers for the whole stack still aren't showing up (ugh), but I
can see that it is happening when it is called from the method
httpServerHandler(), when that method is called by do_scheduled_stream()

[Bug 968766] Re: GCC 4.6.3 (cc1) crashes when compiling MPFR 3.1.0

2013-05-25 Thread Sleep Less
Yes, it's sad Precise's gcc (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) is still
broken.

If you want to (re)build MPFR with that, use (just) '-O2', or '-O3 -fno-
tree-vectorize'.

Or (build and) use any of FSF's / vanilla GCC 4.7.{0,1,2,3} or 4.8.0 ...

[Bug 1174374] Re: libreoffice-calc crashes/hangs desktop on Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 when opening a .xlsx file

2013-05-25 Thread Andrew Krohn
Funny, when I upgraded to 13.04 initially, I did so mainly because I
wanted libre 4. I did the upgrade from an existing 12.10 install and
was loving libre 4. But I wasn't sure tlp was giving me the same
temperature control that jupiter used to (running a netbook with passive
cooling), so I did a clean install of 12.10 (removing libre 3.6 and
installing libre 4) and now I am having libre issues. I can open libre,
but when I try to go to a menu (say, to save something or to go to tools
in order to try turning off hardware acceleration), the menu appears,
but contains no text, and eventually libre just crashes. Contemplating
a clean install of 13.04 to see if the issue goes away since I am pretty
sure I was getting better performance and cooling than in 12.10 with
jupiter.

[Bug 1184243] [NEW] KTorrent does not have a menu bar

2013-05-25 Thread eje211
Public bug reported:

KTorrent works fine except it does not display a menu bar. Under the
title bar, the first thing is the toolbar that says
Torrents/Plugins/Scripts/Search . But not File/Edit etc.

How do I debug that?

ktorrent -v returns:

Qt: 4.8.4
KDE Development Platform: 4.10.2
KTorrent: 4.3.1

I recently upgraded to Kubuntu 13.4.

[Bug 147216] Re: LVM filesystems not mounted at boot

2013-05-25 Thread Phillip Susi
Sorry, you can check that with udevadm info. Since that snippet fixed
it, that would indicate that it is being detected as a raid component
instead of an lvm pv. I wonder if you have a left over md signature.
Which md device is supposed to be the lvm pv? Can you run mdadm -E on

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2013-05-25 Thread A. Denton
The bugs name should be altered. I think Microsoft is just one player in
this game. Have you realized some things changed since the 90's? Just
imagine... Oracle took over Sun, Apple released OS 10 (X) and BSD is a
powerful and usable OS . :-]

Seriously guys I think Microsoft is not the biggest problem we have and
neither is Apple or some other company. The biggest problem right now is
'us'. I think we have a problem with Linux, with quality and with the
direction in which things are going. Yes, I say we have a problem with
quality and 100k+ bugs here. We have a problem with users still making a
valid point in saying Ubuntu is to hard to install and to yet not usable
in the same way and everywhere like the systems of our competitors.

All that is not Microsoft's fault. And even a major market share for a
dinosaur like them is not a problem in the first place. However it
matters whether our quality is better or not. Bill Gates was wrong when
he replied to Jobs in the 80's that it doesn't matter. It does matter –
you can see it yourself!

[Bug 182884] Re: cdrom entry should go at end of sources.list

2013-05-25 Thread Phillip Susi
Since it is disabled by default, the network will be used. If you chose
to enable it again, then you expect it to be used, so it needs to come
first. I've not seen any need to regenerate caches after install to
avoid asking for the cd, so I think this old bug can be closed.

[Bug 968766] Re: GCC 4.6.3 (cc1) crashes when compiling MPFR 3.1.0

2013-05-25 Thread Bruno Medeiros
Any hope waiting a release of this fix to precise-backports?

I'm really disappointed with my situation, I'm trying hard to compile something
that needs gcc-4.7. The only way to achieve that without compiling it myself is
installing a test ppa, https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/test,
which doesn't seem safe to a production server, so I decided to compile it
myself.
An then... I found this bug trying to compile mpfr. Really sad...

I'm sorry but no matter what I do I can't get what's required. I've
tried using apport-cli to generate a symbolic backtrace, but when I
choose the relevant option it just exits after setting up the sandbox.

[Bug 999910] Re: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard)

2013-05-25 Thread A. Denton
Adam, thank you for that update. Yet I can indeed confirm a significant
improvement for 3.2.0-43 and -44 (same +sec fixes). Guess some intel
stuff was added in -43 (as I heard). I also recall something from the
changelogs. With regards to 3.5.0-xx I hope things were backported. So
fare these with >= 3.5.0-30 seem to run stable as well.

Well, if you had taken the time you spent writing your latest comment
and spent it instead on inspecting the information provided on the web
page of the report, you would have realized that the state of this
report is 'Fix Comitted' and _not_ 'Fix Released' - the next major
release will ship without that label (0.49).

[Bug 590686] Re: "Affect:" toolbar label should be renamed/removed

2013-05-25 Thread Alvin Penner
@Kirby, you might wish to consider reading the entire thread above,
since there have been a number of very interesting points raised,
indicating that the 'correct' answer is not entirely clear cut.

In any event, this has been fixed in the Inkscape trunk, which is the
development version. The fix was committed to rev 11062, on March 8,
2012.

see:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/inkscape/trunk/revision/11062

you can see the effects of the fix by downloading a development version from
http://inkscape.org/download/?lang=en/
or by waiting for the official release of 0.49

[Bug 590686] Re: "Affect:" toolbar label should be renamed/removed

2013-05-25 Thread Kirby Schroeder
It is now four years later. I recently discovered Inkscape, and have
begun using it to edit SVG images. And this afternoon I was finally so
annoyed by the "Affect" label that I reported it as a bug in need of
fixing. I was soon notified that I was reporting a duplicate of this
error, Bug #590686. And here I now am, reading over the text of the
above messages.

The messages suggest that the error has been fixed. Well, boys and
girls, it is still here. Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939. I am using Windows 7
on a 64 bit system. I am a native English speaker. I am a grammar
nazi. And I am incredulous that this problem is apparently still being
reproduced. WTF???

Hey, though: it's not like Adobe Illustrator CS6 isn't replete with its
own stockpile of linguistic mishaps. Looks to me like nobody thinks
it's important to have their software vetted by someone with a degree in
English anymore before distributing it to the public. Adobe has been
around long enough to know better. Christ, how can programmers still be
making these kinds of mistakes? Doesn't anyone check their work? Did
they all get a C in English??

(Can you hear me laughing? I am laughing here... Sort of.)

Hi,

I ran the command. But of course with the older kernel which is OK. I
can't run apport-collect with the troublesome kernel, since I don't get
further as the login screen.
