[Bug 1140716] Re: [regression] 3.5.0-26-generic and 3.2.0-39-generic GPU hangs on Sandybridge
I've been running the 3.8.13-030813-generic kernel (on Ubuntu 13.04) linked in Josephs comment above for almost a week now. Have experienced about five crashes so far, so the problem is still there. [Bug 1190120] [NEW] Kernel Oops - unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference; after unbind of a PCI device
Public bug reported: I am trying to unbind a PCI device I received a kernel Oops. I was following instructions described in this KVM document: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/How_to_assign_devices_with_VT-d_in_KVM When I get to the unbind step: echo :01:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/:01:00.0/driver/unbind I get a kernel Oops. Please note at this point I am not running the kvm guest, just trying to unbind the PCI device. I do have VT-d enabled in the bios and a processor that supports IOMMU. This problem is repeatable and appears to be isolated to the unbind command. [Bug 1190064] Re: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. [Bug 732677] Re: bcmwl 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu2 not work on BCM4311/4312
Ah! I get your point about the bug title. What if we think about this from the perspective of the desired outcome - which should be, I guess, a fresh install that just works. There is no point in continuing to have Ubuntu install STA drivers that don't work wiith 4311 hardware, which is what has happened since natty. If the right solution is to fix the STA driver (or its configuration or whatever) so that it does work with the 4311, then I say "let's fix it". If the right solution is to toss the STA driver, or mark it as unsuitable for the 4311, and convince Ubuntu to install b43 (or whatever) then I say "let's install b43 instead". I don't really know all the ins and outs of the various drivers, so I don't know which is the right solution. I just know that the STA driver in all its incarnations since natty has failed to work with the 4311 as configured and that I fix it by installing b43 instead while I wait for an Ubuntu release that does not have this problem. If you would like me to test various configurations, my poor old Inspiron is dedicated to that kind of thing so please ask. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732677 Title: bcmwl 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu2 not work on BCM4311/4312 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/broadcom-sta/+bug/732677/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1190097] [NEW] Nautilus tries but fails to auto-install applications needed to open files of a given type
Public bug reported: I'm running Nautilus 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy). When I double click a file in Nautilus and there is no application installed which can open the file, Nautilus will try to auto-install an application but the auto-install hangs. Specifically, for example: 1. Make sure that Gnumeric is not installed on your system. 2. Create a file with extension .gnumeric and double click it in Nautlius. Nautilus will report: Could not display "finance.gnumeric". There is no application installed for "Gnumeric spreadsheet" files. Do you want to search for an application to open this file? Click Yes. You'll now see a dialog that looks like this: Searching for suitable software to open files Files requires to install [sic] software to open files of the following file type: Gnumeric spreadsheet The dialog has a progress bar, which will briefly pulse and then stop. You can now only press Cancel. A glance at the code shows that Nautilus is trying to send a DBus message to PackageKit to perform the install. There are apparently some PackageKit components on my system (e.g. libpackagekit-glib2-14 is installed), but something is not working. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I'm running Nautilus 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy). [Bug 1163107] Re: Wacom calibration results are off (wrong area)
Well, that was easy. I indeed can just search for wacom in dconf and change the "area" key value. This is of course a much nicer workaround than above, it still works after rebooting. I only used gconf, with which I couldn't find this key. The key is in org > gnome > settings-daemon > peripherals > wacom > (very long string). AFAIK this bug has not been fixed or attempted by anyone else. Best of luck with fixing this Josh, and thanks for supplying us with a decent workaround. [Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find
The new behavior is INFURIATING. And the search functionality is terrible. Even if it were fast (and it's terribly slow on my Core i7 and Intel SSD), it's stupid. I'm a software developer. When I type 'lib', I want to jump to the lib directory that I'm looking at--not find every directory and file with lib in it recursively. That's insane! And there's a well-established UX for this already: indicate that you want to perform a search by pressing Ctrl-F, F3, or whatever. This change has made it virtually impossible to navigate Nautilus without a mouse, and so Nautilus is now completely useless to me. HUGE step backward. I realize that GNOME is doing weird things with Nautilus 3.6, and that the version shipping with Ubuntu is a best effort by Canonical, the Ubuntu community, and friends to maintain sanity. I don't mean to criticize the folks who are doing the best they can. I just want adequately register my frustration here. My Ubuntu desktop experience is seriously hampered as Nautilus is completely useless to me now. It's much more efficient to do all file operations in a shell if I can't type-ahead find. And I don't think this is an issue of, "Well, I guess it's time to learn new UI." I'm not averse to drastic changes to the UI if they're improvements. This isn't a matter of Old Dog v. New Trick. This is a very, very bad UI decision. It makes the software less useful. Quick side rant: the GNOME team have been stripping out features and removing useful functionality for years. I understand the idea of boiling down a tool to its most essential parts, the benefits that that has for maintainability, and the elegance of a focused UI. But come on. It's easy to cross the line and break things that people rely on, and that seems to have been GNOME's modus operandi for at least the past 6 years. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1164016 Title: restore type-ahead find To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1164016/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
