[Bug 1143778] Re: [Dell Latitude 6430u] Brightness keys do not work

2013-06-18 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello James,
brightness hotkey is in our gerylist, therefore it won't block the certificate.

Further investigated this issue, I found out that:

1. Tested with $sudo showkey -s, the key press is not detected at all.
2. Tested with a external keyboard that comes with brightness key, it works.
3. Tested with 12.04.2 LiveUSB, the brightness key works as expected.

And some interesting results -
The brightness key will work when the system was booted with:
a. a specific brand 2GB FAT USB flash drive (tested with other USB, only this
brand here will work)
b. a USB 3D sound controller
c. a USB cable with nothing connected (yes, nothing, just a cable)

Only cold plug will work.
And if you unplug these device, the brightness key still work until you
reboot/suspend it.

Brightness key still not working when booted with these device plugged.
USB keyboard/mouse, USB keyboard/mouse receiver, FAT USB flash drive from 4GB ~
16GB, SD Card.

At last, it seems that this issue could be fixed by updating the system.

[Bug 1192458] [NEW] [USB-Audio, playback] 4-channel mode don't work on E-MU 0204 USB

2013-06-18 Thread Nomad
Public bug reported:

On E-MU 0204 USB only 2-channel mode worked. In this mode the second
pair of channels just duplicates the output of the first pair. E-MU
control panel under MS Windows allow to switch to 2-channel or 4-channel
mode. I ran USB sniffer, and it shows switch commands that the system
send to the device:

Request: 0x1
Value: 0x400
Data: 01 01//switching to 2-channel mode
Data: 01 02//switching to 4-channel mode

Looks like in Ubuntu the card by default stay in 2-channel mode.
Switching to 4-channel mode apparently can be added to quirks.c

2013-06-18 Thread Michael McAndrew
Hey there,

I think I have the same error. I am on an Dell xps13 with a hard drive
about 20% full. I was automatically directed to this bug report after a
gui upgrade reported that something (don't remember the exact words!)
had gone wrong in the update.

I then rebooted and did an 'ls -lR /boot' and a 'sudo aptitude-upgrade'

"
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-image-extra-3.8.0-25-generic
 linux-image-generic
 linux-generic
"

I do NOT appear to have any 'system errors' on boot like Gary.

Let me know if can provide anything more!

Michael

[Bug 951000] Re: disable guest session screen lock using gsettings

2013-06-18 Thread Tammy Yang
As Tyson mentioned in comment #28, this is a timing issue that
gsettings-data-convert.desktop is executed before gconf value is set for
guest session.

One of workaround to use gsettings is to put a prefs.sh in /etc/guest-
session which does:

echo "[Desktop Entry]\nType=Application\nName=Disable Lock Screen in Guest
Session\nOnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;\n\
X-GNOME-Autostart-Phase=Initialization\nTerminal=false\n\
Exec=gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen
true\nNoDisplay=true" \
> $HOME/.config/autostart/disable-lock-screen.desktop

chown $USER:$USER $HOME/.config/autostart/*

This will make sure the gsettings value of disable-lock-screen can
always be true for guest session.

[Bug 951000] Re: disable guest session screen lock using gsettings

2013-06-18 Thread Tammy Yang
I think "gconftool-2 --set --type bool
/desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen True" in guest-account can
be replaced by the script attached in comment #31 or something similar
since gconf should be replaced by gsettings.

[Bug 1192340] Re: Minimizing a maximized window and then restoring it causes resizing, moving, closing fail

2013-06-18 Thread Hamed Abdy
** Description changed:

To reproduce this bug, please do the following steps:
  1) Open a new window (e.g. Nautilus)
  2) Maximize the window
  3) Click on the minimize button to minimize the window
  4) Do not click anywhere after minimizing the window
  5) Move your mouse to top of the screen (menubar), you can see that the menu
and close/minimize/restore buttons are still here, while the window is
minimized.

[Bug 1192453] [NEW] X11 uses incorrect keymap after Kubuntu install

2013-06-18 Thread pafcu
Public bug reported:

During the installation of Kubuntu 13.04 I selected to use the Finnish
keymap. After installation I was unable to login via the graphical login
prompt, but logging in via a text terminal virtual console was possible.
After changing my password from the console to something only containing
latin letters (which are in the same positions both on US and Finnish
keyboards) logging in via the graphical prompt worked. When typing the
character "-" instead the character "/" appears, which is consistent
with the use of a US keyboard layout. Switching layout in the keyboard
system settings module fixed the problem.

This bug completely breaks Ubuntu for many people as it leaves them
unable to log in.

As far as, do partitions show up in the launcher?, no, the ppa
package(s) fix that & the blacklist remains as is.
Though the gparted app itself isn't something acceptable for use, all
partitioning actions produce warnings & apparent errors that aren't
cleared up until a restart.

[Bug 1192431] Re: gnome-pie is not working!

2013-06-18 Thread Simon Schneegans
Hey there! Thanks for the report. Maybe you should try a newer version
of Gnome-Pie! There had been some bugs fixed.

You can download it from my PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:simonschneegans/testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-pie

If this does not help, we'll have to investigate further...

[Bug 951000] Re: disable guest session screen lock using gsettings

2013-06-18 Thread Robert Ancell
I tried adding the gsettings command to /usr/sbin/guest-account and ran
it manually, i.e.:

$ sudo /usr/sbin/guest-acccount add

It gives the error:

(process:27140): dconf-CRITICAL **: unable to create directory
'/run/user/1000/dconf': Permission denied. dconf will not work
properly.

So the 'su' inside /usr/sbin/guest-account doesn't work in this case. In
particular, gsettings is requiring $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR to exist and be set,
this doesn't occur until the guest session has logged in.

[Bug 1192427] [NEW] upper-left "x" doesn't work in Fallback mode

2013-06-18 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 13.04. (I formatted my hard
drive and installed Ubuntu and then did all the updates so my copy would
be current.) I have gnome-session-fallback version 3.6.2-0ubuntu5.

When I'm in "fallback" mode, when a window is maximized the three
buttons on the top left of that window are not usable. Clicking the "x"
(to maximize), the "-" (to minimize), or the square causes the window to
lose keyboard focus, but the window does not get maximized or minimized
or change size. I can still use the keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-Q) to
close the window, or I can go to File->Quit.

For some reason this problem only appears to affect windows that are
fully maximized when the program starts up. If a program starts up not
maximized, I can use the controls to maximize and then un-maximize the
window. But if I maximize the window, close the program, then start the
program again and it starts maximized, the bug is active and there's no
way to unmaximize the window.

This bug does not happen when I'm in the the regular GNOME mode.
I was able to produce this bug on my system with Firefox 21.0 and RhythmBox
2.98 and LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Writer.
My apologies if I'm reporting this in the wrong place!

2013-06-18 Thread Tammy Yang
When the issue happens, I tried to trun gsettings-data-convert --verbose
--dry-run, it says
Directory '/usr/share/GCong/gsettings' all uptodate, nothing to do
However, gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen (true)
and gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen are not
consistent (false) are not consistent.

[Bug 1189634] Re: Writer AutoCorrect does not set superscript on ordinal numbers

2013-06-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alessandro Ceschini, precisely.

Have you tried moving the folders .libreoffice and
~/.config/libreoffice, and then launching Writer to see if it changes
anything?

[Bug 1192238] Re: Letter wizard crashes on saving

2013-06-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alessandro Ceschini, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions
to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade &&
sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-dbg uno-libs3-dbg ure-dbg && sudo service
apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and it does nothing, you may be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
gksudo gedit /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

Please follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOfficeBugWrangling when you
file this crash report so the necessary information is provided.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Thank you for your understanding.
