[Bug 1195524] Re: race condition / transient failure to provision
I did some testing and it turns out the hostname size seems to be the problem! I started a bunch of machines with a hostname of 64 characters and a bunch of machines with a hostname of 25 characters (with the script I linked above): all the machines with a hostname of 25 ended up in the state Running and all the others were stuck Commissioning. Just to be sure, I had someone else confirm that behavior. I did some more testing and I can now say that Azure is ok with hostnames up to 55 characters. A machine with a hostname of size 56 or more won't get out of the commissioning state. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to walinuxagent in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1195524 Title: race condition / transient failure to provision To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/walinuxagent/+bug/1195524/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1187262] [NEW] [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp
You have been subscribed to a public bug by James Page (james-page): mongodb Availability: In universe for several releases. Rationale: Preferred data storage platform for Ceilometer (core OpenStack project) and a key component juju-core. Security: Two security issues, both resolved upstream. native helper security issue only impacts earlier versions of MongoDB - 2.4.x uses libv8 instead of spidermonkey and does not have this function. QA: Works out-of-the-box from packaging. Package ships a test suite (smoke) which is executed on all target platforms. Generally well maintained in Debian and in Ubuntu (server team). Issue with OpenSSL license compatibility needs to be resolved (upstream working on this). Dependencies: All in main aside from libv8, snowball and gyp Maintenance: Upstream push out minor point releases for bug fixes (MRE will be applied for). Packaging generally in good shape aside from static linking of client binaries (being worked on in Debian). libv8 Availability: In universe for several releases. Rationale: Dependency for MongoDB embedded scripting engine. Security: Lots of CVE's: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=v8 I suspect that alot of these relate to the use of v8 in Chrome. However as this is a core component of chrome, we can reasonably expect Google to be responsive to security issues in the future. QA: Package works. Regression tests executed during package build. Dependencies: Use gyp for build system. Maintenance: Well maintained in Debian (supports nodejs as well). gyp Availability: In universe. Rationale: Build dependency for libv8 Security: No CVE's found QA: Works from packaging, test suite present but not executed during build. Dependencies: All in main Maintenance: Until recently not that well maintained in Debian; however nodejs maintainer seems to be picking things up now (see version in saucy which refreshed the package considerably). snowball Availability: In universe. Rationale: libstemmer is a build and runtime dependency for mongodb 2.4 Security: No CVE's found QA: Packaging generally looks good - multi-arched. Unit test suite executed during package build process. Dependencies: All in main. Maintenance: Debian and Ubuntu hold a pre-release snapshot; not much activity in the last 18 months. Background information: libstemmer provides algorithmic stemmer functions for building natural language search functions. ** Affects: gyp (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Affects: libv8 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Affects: mongodb (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Affects: snowball (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New -- [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1187262 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1124384] Re: Configuration reload clears event that others jobs may be waiting on
Hello Ben, or anyone else affected, Accepted upstart into raring-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/1.8-0ubuntu1.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . [Bug 986973] Re: Facter bug causes puppet to hang
** Description changed: [Impact] puppet apply hangs about 20% of the time on affected servers. This affects users using puppet without a puppetmaster. The normal use case is to make puppet apply run regularly. This causes hung puppet processes to build up, eventually exhausting system resources. For those users using puppet without a puppetmaster, this makes puppet unusable. [Workaround] Run puppet with the timeout command. For example: - timeout -k 300s 290s puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp + timeout -k 300s 290s puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp + + This assumes that there won't be another hang on the next run. This is + useful if you run puppet apply from a cron job, for example, and + assumes that not all attempts hang. If you need puppet to actually apply + when you run the command, then no workaround is available. [Development Fix] Fixed upstream by removing some unnecessary thread-exclusive locks that were evidently causing a deadlock when the facter module is used from puppet in the puppet apply case. [Test Case] 1. apt-get install -y puppet 2. cat /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp EOT file { '/tmp/foo': content = 'bar'; } EOT 3. successes=0; failures=0; for i in `seq 1 100`; do timeout -k 35s 30s puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp; rv=$?; echo Exit status $rv; if [ $rv -eq 0 ]; then successes=$(($successes+1)); else failures=$(($failures+1)); fi; done; echo Successses: $successes; failures: $failures Expected result: Successes: 100; failures: 0 Actual result (approx): Successes: 80; failures: 20 Note that this is dependent on a race condition, so this is difficult to reproduce. [Bug 1009920] Re: Warning about unknown module afsql
I have this problem as well and I know where it comes from along with three possible workarounds. I don't have the afsql module enabled in /etc/syslog-ng/modules.conf, nor do I have syslog-ng-sql installed (only libsyslog-ng and syslog-ng- core). However, reading modules.conf I figured that afsql must be a default module. A quick look at the package's source code revealed that as long as the SQL module is enabled it is also set as the default module by configure. The three workarounds (any of those three I've verified to work, only one of them required, your choice): 1. Add --default-modules=... to sylog-ng's command line. This can be done by adding the following to /etc/default/syslog-ng: SYSLOGNG_OPTS=--no-caps --default- modules=affile, afprog, afsocket, afuser, basicfuncs, csvparser, dbparser, syslogformat Those modules are the ones configure sets as default as well. 2. Install the syslog-ng-mod-sql package which contains the afsql module, even if you don't use the SQL sink. I consider this suboptimal and a waste of space ;) 3. Modify the package's build routine so that it doesn't include afsql in the list of default modules and re-build it. 1. and 2. are pretty upgrade safe, 3. isn't. 3. is what the Ubuntu team itself should do; otherwise it makes no sense at all to provide a separate package for the SQL module. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1009920 Title: Warning about unknown module afsql To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/syslog-ng/+bug/1009920/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Upstream bug (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49201) was marked as Fix Released. I checked that the related fixes are in Ubuntu 13.10 (make sure you're running the latest 3.10 kernel). It should be useful to test it to find out whether things finally have improved. My initial take is that it seems to work better, but no wonders expected. [Bug 1181982] Re: Unity Tweak Tool: Hiding desktop icons triggers bug (frozen login screen is shown as background picture)
Georgi, - Most users do not have an issue if the panel is shadowless. Most, like me, wouldn't even notice it. - Right clicking on desktop is handled by nautilus, so it is by design that you can not rightclick on desktop when you ask nautilus to not handle the desktop. If anyone complains, that will be our reply. I would like to have files on desktop for quick access at times, but when I have an audience or when I connect to a projector, I prefer to hide my files to not reveal my plans for world domination. :P So, we have a use case. [Bug 1196435] [NEW] Random kernel panics return on linux-image-3.5.0-34-generic or 3.5.0-32-generic (possibly AMD radeon HD 4200 stack related)
Public bug reported: Hi, Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64-bit) on a standard business desktop PC (HP Compaq 6005 Pro SFF) I used to experience daily hangs with/without kernel panic. The panics seem GPU-related. I run two desktop PCs side-by-side of identical hardware. Installing the Quantal Hardware Enablement stack fixed the stability issue at last (after suffering it for several months). In a recent kernel upgrade, sadly a daily kernel panic has returned, it occurs 1-2 times daily. This may be kernel 3.5.0-34 or 3.5.0-32, I can't identify which one. Both were installed in June around the time this started. From the stack trace on-screen it doesn't seem to be the same crash and doesn't mention DRM this time but is the same in nature, i.e. I am doing something in the GUI and I get a kernel panic. (This has also happened when I am out of the office.) Graphics card: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] I upgraded my second PC to 12.10 recently then it booted onto a black screen (power management), I could not get past this, so I upgraded to 13.04 from a single-user mode root maintenance console. [Bug 1196433] [NEW] Enigmail is prompting for GPG password constantly
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce (I'm guessing here) 1. Receive an encrypted message Expected result: My password is prompted if I try to open the message. Actual result: My password is prompted no matter which email message I'm currently viewing. If I cancel the prompt, I get re-prompted within 1-120 seconds. As a result, I have currently disabled the enigmail add-on for the account I'm normally using because the modal password prompt is getting in the way. As far as I know, the password prompt is displayed by my GPG agent and the calling software should take the hint to not re-request the password immediately again if I hit cancel. Extra information: I'm guessing that the prompting is caused by background indexing done by Thunderbird. This is problematic for two reasons: 1. I cannot know which message is being decrypted so I cannot delete it, or prevent indexing it (if at all possible) 2. If thunderbird can index it, TB will keep unencrypted index data for the message -- which is highly unwanted because the message was encrypted in the first place. I'm not sure if updating to 1.5.1 would help (http://www.enigmail.net/download/changelog.php#enig1.5.1).
