[Bug 1195524] Re: race condition / transient failure to provision

2013-07-01 Thread Raphaël Badin
I did some testing and it turns out the hostname size seems to be the
problem! I started a bunch of machines with a hostname of 64 characters
and a bunch of machines with a hostname of 25 characters (with the
script I linked above): all the machines with a hostname of 25 ended up
in the state Running and all the others were stuck Commissioning.
Just to be sure, I had someone else confirm that behavior.

I did some more testing and I can now say that Azure is ok with
hostnames up to 55 characters. A machine with a hostname of size 56 or
more won't get out of the commissioning state.

[Bug 1196440] [NEW] apache2-mpm-worker-dbgsym is uninstallable

2013-07-01 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

This is in a freshly created raring lxc with ddebs enabled and apache2
-mpm-worker installed:

root@apache2test:~# apt-get install apache2-mpm-worker-dbgsym=2.2.22-6ubuntu5
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 apache2-mpm-worker-dbgsym : Depends: apache2-dbg (= 2.2.22-6ubuntu5) but it is
not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I looked a bit at debian/rules (in which I can see that apache2-dbg is
carefully not built on ubuntu) and pkg_create_dbgsym and got a headache.

[Bug 1187262] [NEW] [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp

2013-07-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by James Page (james-page):

 mongodb

Availability:

In universe for several releases.

Rationale:

Preferred data storage platform for Ceilometer (core OpenStack project)
and a key component juju-core.

Security:

Two security issues, both resolved upstream. native helper security
issue only impacts earlier versions of MongoDB - 2.4.x uses libv8
instead of spidermonkey and does not have this function.

QA:

Works out-of-the-box from packaging.
Package ships a test suite (smoke) which is executed on all target platforms.
Generally well maintained in Debian and in Ubuntu (server team).
Issue with OpenSSL license compatibility needs to be resolved (upstream working
on this).

Dependencies: All in main aside from libv8, snowball and gyp

Maintenance:

Upstream push out minor point releases for bug fixes (MRE will be applied for).
Packaging generally in good shape aside from static linking of client binaries
(being worked on in Debian).

 libv8

Availability:

In universe for several releases.

Rationale:

Dependency for MongoDB embedded scripting engine.

Security:

Lots of CVE's:
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=v8

I suspect that alot of these relate to the use of v8 in Chrome. However
as this is a core component of chrome, we can reasonably expect Google
to be responsive to security issues in the future.

QA:

Package works.
Regression tests executed during package build.

Dependencies:

Use gyp for build system.

Maintenance:

Well maintained in Debian (supports nodejs as well).

 gyp

Availability:

In universe.

Rationale:

Build dependency for libv8

Security:
No CVE's found

QA:
Works from packaging, test suite present but not executed during build.

Dependencies: All in main

Maintenance:

Until recently not that well maintained in Debian; however nodejs
maintainer seems to be picking things up now (see version in saucy which
refreshed the package considerably).

 snowball

Availability:

In universe.

Rationale:

libstemmer is a build and runtime dependency for mongodb 2.4

Security:

No CVE's found

QA:

Packaging generally looks good - multi-arched.
Unit test suite executed during package build process.

Dependencies:

All in main.

Maintenance:

Debian and Ubuntu hold a pre-release snapshot; not much activity in the
last 18 months.

Background information:

libstemmer provides algorithmic stemmer functions for building natural
language search functions.

[Bug 1196518] [NEW] lxc-start failed with lxc_cgroup - Invalid argument - write /sys/fs/cgroup/devices/lxc/NAME/devices.deny : Invalid argument with kernel 3.10

2013-07-01 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

With kernel 3.10.0 lxc-create fails with the following error:

Second run of lxc-start works fine.
Downgrading to 3.9.0-7 fixes the issue.

The rootfs of the container is a loop-mounted squashfs from a loop-
mounted ISO of latest saucy desktop image.

Re: [Bug 1196295] [NEW] lxc-start enters uninterruptible sleep

2013-07-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Pavel Bennett (1196...@bugs.launchpad.net):
If it matters, I SIGKILL my lxc-start processes instead of using lxc-
stop. Could that have any negative implications?

Yes, the lxc-start process itself is not the container init, so killing
it will prevent lxc from doing cleanup. Please try to reproduce with
lxc-stop.

[Bug 1192499] Re: virsh migration copy-storage-all fails with Unable to read from monitor: Connection reset by peer

2013-07-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
 I am sorry.

Host Kernel : 3.10.0-rc5+ [upstream kernel fedora base], both the source
and destination host are the same.

We test the upstream kernel, qemu and libvirt. We don't have ubuntu.

Oh, I see - then please see http://libvirt.org/bugs.html (specifically
General libvirt bug reports) for where to file upstream bug reports.

[Bug 1124384] Re: Configuration reload clears event that others jobs may be waiting on

2013-07-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Ben, or anyone else affected,

Accepted upstart into raring-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/1.8-0ubuntu1.2
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1188501] Re: lxc-execute fails to start container without rootfs

2013-07-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

+
+ Impact: cannot lxc-execute in a container without private rootfs
+ Development fix: mount /proc when no rootfs is specified
+ Stable fix: same as development fix
+ Test case:
+ sudo lxc-execute --name test /bin/bash
+ Without the fix, this will fail. With the fix, it will
+ succeed.
+ Regression potential: This fix is cherrypicked from upstream, and
+ should not result in any regressions. The function
+ being modified is a crucial one though.
+
+
I get the following output when trying to start a container just running
  bash as an app:

  $ sudo lxc-execute --name test /bin/bash
lxc-execute: Permission denied - failed to change apparmor profile to
lxc-container-default
  lxc-execute: invalid sequence number 1. expected 4
  lxc-execute: failed to spawn 'test'

I'm attaching the contents of /var/log/lxc/test.log, which is the only log
file I can see.

[Bug 986973] Re: Facter bug causes puppet to hang

2013-07-01 Thread Robie Basak
(this appears fixed in Saucy, so just the Precise SRU needed)

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ puppet apply hangs about 20% of the time on affected servers. This
+ affects users using puppet without a puppetmaster. The normal use case
+ is to make puppet apply run regularly. This causes hung puppet
+ processes to build up, eventually exhausting system resources.
+
+ For those users using puppet without a puppetmaster, this makes puppet
+ unusable.
+
+ [Workaround]
+
+ Run puppet with the timeout command. For example:
+
+ timeout -k 300s 290s puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp
+
+ [Development Fix]
+
+ Fixed upstream by removing some unnecessary thread-exclusive locks that
+ were evidently causing a deadlock when the facter module is used from

[Bug 986973] Re: Facter bug causes puppet to hang

2013-07-01 Thread Robie Basak

is to make puppet apply run regularly. This causes hung puppet
processes to build up, eventually exhausting system resources.

Run puppet with the timeout command. For example:

- timeout -k 300s 290s puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp
+  timeout -k 300s 290s puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp
+
+ This assumes that there won't be another hang on the next run. This is
+ useful if you run puppet apply from a cron job, for example, and
+ assumes that not all attempts hang. If you need puppet to actually apply
+ when you run the command, then no workaround is available.

  [Development Fix]

Fixed upstream by removing some unnecessary thread-exclusive locks that

I use an OEM build based on precise plus unity 5.20.0 I build in my ppa

relating to busy mount.

I have also installed the Linux 3.9.0-030900rc8-generic (x86_64) kernel

the lfe volume control is for the orange jack and this has no effect on
the subwoofer if you are using creative analog 4.1 speakers

[Bug 1009920] Re: Warning about unknown module afsql

2013-07-01 Thread Moritz Bunkus
I have this problem as well and I know where it comes from along with
three possible workarounds.

I don't have the afsql module enabled in /etc/syslog-ng/modules.conf,
nor do I have syslog-ng-sql installed (only libsyslog-ng and syslog-ng-
core). However, reading modules.conf I figured that afsql must be a
default module.

A quick look at the package's source code revealed that as long as the
SQL module is enabled it is also set as the default module by configure.

The three workarounds (any of those three I've verified to work, only
one of them required, your choice):

1. Add --default-modules=... to sylog-ng's command line. This can be
done by adding the following to /etc/default/syslog-ng:

SYSLOGNG_OPTS=--no-caps --default-
modules=affile,afprog,afsocket,afuser,basicfuncs,csvparser,dbparser,syslogformat

Those modules are the ones configure sets as default as well.

2. Install the syslog-ng-mod-sql package which contains the afsql
module, even if you don't use the SQL sink. I consider this suboptimal
and a waste of space ;)

3. Modify the package's build routine so that it doesn't include afsql
in the list of default modules and re-build it.

1. and 2. are pretty upgrade safe, 3. isn't. 3. is what the Ubuntu team
itself should do; otherwise it makes no sense at all to provide a
separate package for the SQL module.

[Bug 1009920] Re: Warning about unknown module afsql

2013-07-01 Thread Moritz Bunkus
BTW, you usually don't need --no-caps. I do because I'm running a
third-party kernel for which this is required, and I lazily
copied/pasted from that machine without removing --no-caps before
posting here. Sorry.

linux-image-3.7.5-030705-generic_3.7.5-030705.201301280206_amd64.deb

It works in kernel (3.5.7, 3.6, 3.6.11).
It does not work in kernel (3,7.0rc1 and below).

Another thing, Fn+F2(Scancode: 0xe0 0x56 0xe0 0xd6) also can't be
catched by i8042 and showkey in kernel (3.5 - 3.7), but it work well
in kernel 3.8 and 3.10

Hope the infomation is usful...

[Bug 584936] Re: gpsd cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0

2013-07-01 Thread Oleg Malashenko
Confirmed in 12.04.2

Fixed in GPSD in Aug 2009, here is the original bug report in Debian
bugtracker http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=542384

Gpsd developers added compile time option (!?) to set fallback gpsd
group when device from command line is unavailable when gpsd starts.
IMO, it should be runtime command line argument, not compile time
option, but that is what we've got.

Attached patch setting 'gpsd_group=dialout' compile option.

[Bug 971809] Re: 168c:0032 Wifi connection unstable -- Atheros AR9485 ath9k

2013-07-01 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Upstream bug (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49201) was
marked as Fix Released. I checked that the related fixes are in Ubuntu
13.10 (make sure you're running the latest 3.10 kernel). It should be
useful to test it to find out whether things finally have improved. My
initial take is that it seems to work better, but no wonders expected.
But is it now as good as it gets with the hardware/antenna limitations?

It might be best to file a new bug to track newer upstream bug reports.
Alternatively, this bug could be updated with another upstream bug
report, but the current one is indeed set as fixed.

[Bug 1181982] Re: Unity Tweak Tool: Hiding desktop icons triggers bug (frozen login screen is shown as background picture)

2013-07-01 Thread J Phani Mahesh
Georgi,
 - Most users do not have an issue if the panel is shadowless. Most, like me,
wouldn't even notice it.
 - Right clicking on desktop is handled by nautilus, so it is by design that
you can not rightclick on desktop when you ask nautilus to not handle the
desktop. If anyone complains, that will be our reply.

I would like to have files on desktop for quick access at times, but
when I have an audience or when I connect to a projector, I prefer to
hide my files to not reveal my plans for world domination. :P So, we
have a use case. Let us reconsider this.

P.S : I am biased. This is one switch I love.

[Bug 945379] Re: 168c:002b Wireless connection randomly drops -- ath9k

2013-07-01 Thread Timo Jyrinki
A related upstream bug report
(https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49201) was now marked as
fixed, not sure if it directly affects this one or not. I checked that
the latest fixes are now in Ubuntu 13.10, kernel 3.10-rc7.

I'm _not_ sure if all the kernel configuration parameters are correct.
Specifically CONFIG_ATH9K_LEGACY_RATE_CONTROL is set on Ubuntu, but I
find no mention of that option in the bug reports (only the one without
LEGACY, which apparently should not be set).

[Bug 1196425] [NEW] monitor resolution false since kernel 3.10

2013-07-01 Thread Steffen Michalek
Public bug reported:

choosing a kernel 3.9. when booting - resolution of monitor is o.k. xrandr -q
gives correct values.
when choosing a 3.10 kernel, the monitor resolution is too less.
and: xrandr -q does not show the possible monitor resolution, but gives an
error message showing problems with gamma things (writing now with 3.9
kernel, I cannot reproduce. It was like problems with setting or getting a
certain gamma value)
reproducable, both 3.10 kernels that came with ubuntu 13.10 development.

[Bug 1196435] [NEW] Random kernel panics return on linux-image-3.5.0-34-generic or 3.5.0-32-generic (possibly AMD radeon HD 4200 stack related)

2013-07-01 Thread Matt C
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64-bit) on a standard business desktop PC (HP
Compaq 6005 Pro SFF) I used to experience daily hangs with/without
kernel panic. The panics seem GPU-related.

I run two desktop PCs side-by-side of identical hardware.

Installing the Quantal Hardware Enablement stack fixed the stability
issue at last (after suffering it for several months).

In a recent kernel upgrade, sadly a daily kernel panic has returned, it
occurs 1-2 times daily.

This may be kernel 3.5.0-34 or 3.5.0-32, I can't identify which one.
Both were installed in June around the time this started.

From the stack trace on-screen it doesn't seem to be the same crash and
doesn't mention DRM this time but is the same in nature, i.e. I am doing
something in the GUI and I get a kernel panic. (This has also happened
when I am out of the office.)

Graphics card:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880
[Radeon HD 4200]

I upgraded my second PC to 12.10 recently then it booted onto a black
screen (power management), I could not get past this, so I upgraded to
13.04 from a single-user mode root maintenance console. My second PC
running 13.04 is now stable on this hardware.

My 12.04 LTS PC with the latest security/critical updates is again not
stable.

[Bug 1196433] [NEW] Enigmail is prompting for GPG password constantly

2013-07-01 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (I'm guessing here)

1. Receive an encrypted message

Expected result:

My password is prompted if I try to open the message.

Actual result:

My password is prompted no matter which email message I'm currently
viewing. If I cancel the prompt, I get re-prompted within 1-120 seconds.
As a result, I have currently disabled the enigmail add-on for the
account I'm normally using because the modal password prompt is getting
in the way. As far as I know, the password prompt is displayed by my GPG
agent and the calling software should take the hint to not re-request
the password immediately again if I hit cancel.

Extra information:

I'm guessing that the prompting is caused by background indexing done by
Thunderbird. This is problematic for two reasons:

1. I cannot know which message is being decrypted so I cannot delete it,
or prevent indexing it (if at all possible)

2. If thunderbird can index it, TB will keep unencrypted index data for
the message -- which is highly unwanted because the message was
encrypted in the first place.

I'm not sure if updating to 1.5.1 would help
(http://www.enigmail.net/download/changelog.php#enig1.5.1).

[Bug 1196435] Re: Random kernel panics return on linux-image-3.5.0-34-generic or 3.5.0-32-generic (possibly AMD radeon HD 4200 stack related)

** Description changed:

- My 12.04 LTS PC with the latest security/critical updates is again not
- stable.
