[Bug 1200500] [NEW] Since upgrading from 12.04 to Ubuntu 13.04, samba does not configure properly

2013-07-11 Thread DanieW
Public bug reported:

samba4: on Ubuntu

Since I started upgrading from version 12.04, samba does not configure
properly. On each update / install I get a problem that samba did not
install.

I have now found that I can do the following to narrow it down:
 samba-tool --configure
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/samba-tool", line 26, in
from samba.netcmd.main import cmd_sambatool
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/__init__.py", line 27, in

import samba.param
ImportError: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/samba/libserver-role.so: version
`SAMBA_4.0.0BETA2' not found (required by
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/param.so)

My settings in smb.conf:
  realm = localdomain
  server role = domain controller

I can browse a bit on local windows network...?

[Bug 1163687] Re: Impossible to insert non-Latin characters or diacritics with the keyboard

2013-07-11 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Tested with Friends app, it seems to be fixed. I was able to insert
chars like ë and í now, unlike with 5.0.2 (using Qt 5.1 from ppa
:canonical-qt5-edgers/qt5-beta-proper).

Considering raring, it's unknown which exact patches would be required
to be backported, since the one tried out before was not enough.

[Bug 1166765] Re: unity showing only blank desktop, no dash nor decorations

2013-07-11 Thread Adrian Smith
After migrating from another PC, I installed all packages (including
nvidia drivers). Since my new PC doesn't have an nvidia card, only
HD4000, I removed the nvidia with "apt-get purge nvidia*". Then I had
this problem. Same errors in .xsession-errors.

"gsettings reset
org.compiz.core:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/core/ active-plugins"
has fixed it for now.

TL;DR removing nvidia drivers can cause this problem. Should reset
compiz after remove.

[Bug 855994] Re: Sharing service installation failed

So many versions of ubuntu are released with folder sharing problematic
and SAMBA must be the most useless technology ever invented. Whay can
this basic functionality not be stablised for good?

[Bug 1188025] Re: [Dell Vostro 5460] Right key on the touchpad is not working

2013-07-11 Thread Anthony Wong
The last git bisect brings us to this commit:

140a77989ae164ca87ac8b7bbda9f3afa0237599 is the first bad commit
commit 140a77989ae164ca87ac8b7bbda9f3afa0237599
Author: JJ Ding
Date: Tue Apr 10 00:30:12 2012 -0700

Input: elantech - v4 is a clickpad, with only one button

BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033568

Add pointer and buttonpad properties for v4 hardware.

Also, Jachiet reported that on Asus UX31, right button has no effect.
It turns out v4 has only one button, the right-button effect is
implemented with software when Windows driver is installed, or in
firmware when touchpad is in relative mode. So remove BTN_RIGHT
while at it.

It seems to be intentional to remove the right button.

[Bug 1020650] Re: Ralink module rt5572sta isn't included in linux-image-{generic, server}

2013-07-11 Thread Antonis Kanouras
As a bandaid until Saucy is released, you can try using the kernel
packages at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.10-saucy/ ;
they do support the RT5572.

Make sure you install the relevant header packages as well if you're
using any out-of-tree modules (nvidia, fglrx, etc.)

[Bug 876356] Re: libpanelapplet-3.0 dependency not in oneiric

2013-07-11 Thread Matthew Fischer
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Oneiric reached EOL on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with raring and saucy and was unable to,
given the information you've provided. Please upgrade to the latest
version and re-test. If the bug is still reproducible, increase the
verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1197107] Re: DOSBox crashes with Amulets & Armor

2013-07-11 Thread shankao
Could you better launch the apport-bug command instead? AFAIK, it also
processes the crash report with information about your system (like what
libraries you have installed). In a terminal, just run:

apport-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_dosbox.1000.crash

(supposing that you still keep the file in your system)

Thanks!

Oh, the report also warns about you having some obsolete packages in your
system ("UnreportableReason:
Você tem alguns pacotes obsoletos instalados. Por favor atualize os pacotes a
seguir e verifique se o problema continua a ocorrer:")

Yes, it would be a good idea to upgrade first, as the bug could have
being already solved in the new packages. :)

[Bug 1200204] Re: SuperSpeed USB failure (and kernel oops) after launching tvtime: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD; unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000

I have tested older revisions of the Linux kernel using the Ubuntu 13.04
and 12.04.2 live CDs. I ended up with the same USB failure (and kernel
oops), so I suspect this issue has been present since the initial
implementation of the xhci driver and is therefore not a regression.

[Bug 1187191] Re: [MIR] python-markdown

2013-07-11 Thread Seth Arnold
This should not be considered a complete security audit, but rather
a quick gauge of maintainability.

I audited python-markdown 2.3.1-1 as checked into Saucy.

- No CVE history
- Markdown's purpose is dual, first to make writing simple HTML easier,
second to provide a safe way for untrusted users to produce HTML in
web applications and elsewhere. Thus some input comes from trusted
programmers, some input comes from untrusted users.
- Build-dep python-nose, python3-nose, are used as test runners.
- Build-dep python-tidylib is used during tests
  - python-markdown Suggests: the older python-utidylib for runtime use as
one extension uses it
  - python3-markdown does not Suggest: python-tidylib, as no extensions use it
- No encryption, no networking, can use pygments, embeds portions of old
  ElementTree codebase
- No daemons, no services, no cron jobs, no init scripts, no dbus, no sudo
- One binary, simple markdown converter
- prerm cleans up postinst
- Clean build logs
- No spawned processes
- Defensive code often checks pre-conditions
- File manipulation looks safe, encodings managed using good tools
- No special environment variable handling
- No privileged operations
- Extensive tests run during build

python-markdown looks to be written in a professional manner. The extensive
tests would lend confidence to any maintenance that may become necessary.

Security team ACK for including into main.

[Bug 545894] Re: notifications appear over screensaver

2013-07-11 Thread ImConfused
Skype4.0 uses a popup notifier that has the answer the phone button on
it and no where else. The only way that I can get the popup to reappear
when it doesn't work is to restart Skype. Unfortunately usually I find
it isn't working when I can't answer and incoming call.

I did the following. I uninstalled the xscreensaver. I already had the
monitor being powered down by the xfce power manager. I started Skype
yesterday. It is still answering today I tested it with the Options,
Notifiers, Incoming call ringing. and test. The test didn't work when
it was not working correctly..

[Bug 1200288] Re: yum error in lxc-create -t fedora

2013-07-11 Thread Jeremy Fishman
I am seeing this same issue via 'yumdownloader'.

It appears to be a bug in urlgrabber, fixed here
http://yum.baseurl.org/gitweb?p=urlgrabber.git;a=commitdiff;h=b6bfd59c4393ea8ba5165aabb249c37d6d2a9931

For explanation, see
http://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/c/curl_easy_setopt.html#CURLOPTSSLVERIFYHOST

The bug is still present in the latest upstream 3.9.1 release of
urlgrabber.

It is possible to work-around the urlgrabber bug by setting the options
'ssl_verify_host' to 2 instead of True, though 'True' is expected value
according to the pydoc:

> self.ssl_verify_host = True
>
>Check the server's hostname to make sure it matches the certificate DN

[Bug 1200451] [NEW] vncserver errors with "wrong type or access mode of .vnc" when user does not own .vnc directory but is in the group owner

2013-07-11 Thread Aaron Staley
Public bug reported:

Scenario:

User A is a member of group G.

.vnc (inside user A's $HOME) is owned by other user B and group G.

when user A runs vncserver, it complains that "wrong type or access mode
of .vnc", even though vncserver has permission to read and write every
file within that directory (by virtue of group G). There appears to be
no way to specify that vncserver stop complaining about this situation.

I realize that this is a very rare case. Specifically it applies to
PiCloud, where the owner of files in user X's home directory are not
necessarily user X. I realize this is not best practice, but it is
necessary due to issues with our DFS and AUFS (see
http://blog.picloud.com/2013/05/01/using-aufs-and-lxc-to-manage-
dependencies-at-cloud-scale/ for an overview of what we are doing).
Until vncserver, we had not run into an application that complained that
its access was being derived from the group, not ownership.

If there is a way to disable this check, it'd be most helpful.

[Bug 1192051] Re: plymouthd spinning at 100% CPU after I log in

2013-07-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oops, I forgot to post my original findings here. You might find them
helpful...

plymouthd is spinning on an fd of "/dev/tty7" with errno==EIO. Waiting
for the "plymouth deactivate" to properly complete (hence
drmDropMaster), avoids the bug.

So it looks like plymouth's DRM code is not very clever with its error
handling. Once it starts getting EIO it should probably give up.
Instead, it doesn't understand EIO and retries constantly.

Also, enhancing plymouth so that "plymouth --wait" works with the
deactivate command would have been very helpful. Right now, plymouth
--wait does not wait for the deactivate to complete.

[Bug 734908] Re: Unity is visible on top of fullscreen apps

2013-07-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also remember that Unity does not use any "windows" in rendering at all.
What is visible of Unity is pure GL (via Nux) and not dictated by normal
window types/hints/states. The "windows" unity has and their types,
exist only to receive input (mouse clicks).

Last year I did some work in unityshell.cpp to make it actually honour
the window order and pretend that its input windows were real ones. This
worked well for 12.10, but I think there have been some regressions in
13.04/13.10.

Still, whether you agree or not, please follow standard practice of
logging new bugs and not continuing conversations on in those that are

[Bug 1174145] Re: Broadcom 4313 causes heavy interference with wireless clients after 13.04 upgrade

2013-07-11 Thread Jim Ciallella
For the layman, the suggested fix in comment #18 means:
- Go to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+package/bcmwl-kernel-source
- Click the link under Source package
- Under "Builds" click either saucy i386 (for 32-bit) or saucy AMD64 (for
64-bit)
- On the next page, under "Built files", click the link to download the .deb
file
- Open the .deb and it should open in Ubuntu Software Center
- Click the Upgrade button

I'm having trouble with the make command. Could someone explain how to
do this, or should I just wait for it to be released since this is over
my head?

[Bug 1200447] [NEW] Send the apport data collected for a known bug number

2013-07-11 Thread Ivan Garcia
Public bug reported:

In many cases it occurred to me that I know an exact Launchpad Bug Id
that is happening to me but I would like to add my case to the comments
and therefore I open APPORT to get the data (dependencies.txt, etc) for
my case.

Then when apport redirects me to the Launchpad Generate New Bug and asks
me to put the 'Summary' of the bug to search, I can't introduce the ID
of such known bug. Even if I try to put some words of the title from the
known bug, it doesn't show up in the list of suggested bugs.

I think fixing this it will save many duplicated bugs being created in
Launchpad.

Suggestions:
- In that summary page it could already ask me if I know the ID of the known
Launchpad Bug that I want to add info to.

** Affects: apport (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
