Thanks for the pointers. [Bug 1201679] [NEW] ibus' Super+Space shortcut (usually) doesn't work
Public bug reported: 1. Add the ubuntu-desktop PPA on Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy" sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install indicator-keyboard 2. Log out and log back in. 2. Open System Settings>Region & Language 3. Switch to the Text Entry tab. 4. Click the + button to add at least two more keyboard layouts. 5. Log out and log back in. 6. Try to use the (new) default Super+Space keyboard shortcut to switch between keyboard layouts. What happens --- Usually, Super+Space is ignored. It worked for me once on login but every other time I tested it didn't work. It works fine in GNOME Shell but not in Unity. gsettings reset org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys switch-input-source seems to be enough to nudge Unity into respecting the Super+Space keyboard shortcut. My guess is that Unity is too aggressive in binding the Super key to itself. Workaround - Shift+Super+Space, the keyboard shortcut to switch backward between keyboard layouts works. [Bug 1201633] Re: no automatic reconnection when internet(nic) disconnects
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1201633/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1201669] [NEW] mysql service unable to start via upstart script
Public bug reported: Installed mysql-server meta package which pulled in mysql-server-5.5 and mysql-server-core-5.5 which created both an upstart script (attached) and a sysvinit script. When starting mysql via the service command, the presense of the upstart script causes that script to be used in preference of the sysvinit script. The problem is, with the upstart script present in /etc/init, it is impossible to start or stop the mysql service: bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql status status: Unknown job: mysql bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql restart stop: Unknown job: mysql start: Unknown job: mysql bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql stop stop: Unknown job: mysql Now, if I remove the upstart script causing service to fall back on the sysvinit script, I am able to stop, start and do other things with the mysql service: bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo mv /etc/init/mysql.conf . bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql status * /usr/bin/mysqladmin Ver 8.42 Distrib 5.5.31, for debian-linux-gnu on x86_64 Copyright (c) 2000, 2013, Oracle and/or its affiliates. [Bug 716324] Re: When clicking "new separator", alacarte crashed with ValueError in __positionItem(): ('Separator', ) is not in list
This is a bit confusing. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which is supposed to be supported until the middle of 2017 and is not updated with a new LTS until the middle of 2014, yet, according to Hans (Comment #5), an update for this problem won't be provided until the user's system is updated to one after 12.10? I know Hans said that a backport can be requested but there doesn't seem to be clear instructions: "Backports are requested by filing a bug against the appropriate backports project, as listed here" but when I click on the link this bug is not listed. In addition, I don't have a "ubuntu-dev-tools" in the Package manager. Plus, I want to get an update as Ubuntu states; I don't really want to be a tester ("As backports require testing before they can be approved, the backports team recommends that requesters of backports also test them when possible."). [Bug 1201633] [NEW] no automatic reconnection when internet(nic) disconnects

In the past few days I've started noticing my wireless connection will drop out randomly every few minutes, varying between 10m, 30m, sometimes it stays good for >1hr and then disconnects. (Note: my connection only disconnects, my router stays stable and connected to my ISP). When this happens I check to see if my SSID is still broadcasting (sudo iwlist scanning #) which it is and wait for my wireless to reconnect, but nothing happens. In order for me to get connected to my gateway again I must click the Wireless notification in the top right, turn Wifi OFF then ON (so my SSID reappears) and only then will be connected automatically. Also clicking 'Network Settings' under the Wiressless Notification does nothing, just makes the menu close. Within 'Network Connections' under the General tab for my SSID I have both "Automatically connect to this network when its available" and "All users may connect to this network" CHECKED/TICKED and saved. As you are probably aware, this problem is very inconvenient when downloading large files (ie; torrents) and being away from the computer. Any help with this problem would be much appreciated. edit: I've currently been connected to my gateway (and the www) for about 2 hours now, this is just to tell you that the drop outs aren't always as frequent as I stated above.
