[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2013-07-29 Thread Jonas Platte
Since I reinstalled my system (13.10) in UEFI mode, this bug even occurs
more often. Before it only occured about every second start.

I've got a SATA II SSD, and a Haswell i5 CPU which also handles the
graphics.

The special thing about the bug for me is that I am never able to start
or restart lightdm manually. It shows a blinking cursor on a black
screen like on the most boots. Even when the boot works normally, I
sometimes get the black screen again when logging out.

Aleve - Which Ubuntu release and variety

[Bug 1179966] Re: Please upgrade python-pika to 0.9.12

2013-07-29 Thread Robie Basak
I appreciate that the Pika developers say that it should not be used by
anyone. Nevertheless, 12.04 was released with that version, and people
may be using it today. We cannot undermine the stability of the stable
release by just updating without considering SRU criteria.

It is not reasonable to break existing users of the stable release, so
we must be careful not to do so. If nobody is willing to take this care,
then the stable release will not be updated.

I'd love to see this fixed, but if nobody is able to answer my questions
in comment #6, then I don't think this bug will be able to make any
progress in terms of an update for 12.04.

Have you considered driving 0.9.13 into the backports repository? This
doesn't really require anything except for backporting the package and
testing it, since it cannot break existing users.

[Bug 1206072] Crash report cannot be processed

2013-07-29 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libexpat1: package version 2.1.0-4
dbgsym version 2.1.0-2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

But please don't forget Ubuntu only supports the packages from the

The pre-installed LibreOffice 3.6(?) of Ubuntu 12.04 has a bug and the paper

Therefore I installed LibreOffice 4.0 from ppa libreoffice-4-0. And this

the current version 4.0.4.2 AGAIN BROKE this feature - again everything

[Bug 1205284] Re: linux-tools naming is not scalable to multiple source packages

2013-07-29 Thread Andy Whitcroft
/me will bring a sample patch set to sprint for this.

** Description changed:

- We need to sort out naming for linux-tools as it is not sensible in the
- face of multiple source packages.
+ The linux tools packages are not currently scalable to multiple source
+ package branches. This is because the packages are actually per
+ architecture (not flavour) in both contents and naming but may differ
+ between source packages which may be at different versions. This prevents
+ us safely emitting linux-tools packages from branches other than master.
+
+ We have a policy of insulating people from the source package from which a
+ kernel comes. We do this via the linux-thing-flavour package naming,
+ which is consistant regardless of overall package. It therefore makes
+ a lot of sense to extend this to the tools package. Such that we would
+ have the following user consumable packages as below:
+
+ linux-tools-flavour -- tools to match linux-image-flavour
+ linux-tools-abi-flavour -- tools to match
linux-image-abi-flavour
+
+ In order to allow linux-tools to be still be a valid install target the
+ first of these would additionally Provides: linux-tools to allow simple
+ selection of the appropriate flavour specific package where there is only
+ one, or to help the user make an informed choice where there is more.
+
+ The first would be the logical choice when wanting to maintain tools
+ installed for all future version of the kernel, mirroring the kernels as
+ installed by the linux-flavour and linux-image-flavour packages and
+ keeping the user up to date in tools. The second would be the appropriate
+ package to request installation when trying to target a specific
+ kernel version and would be used by the wrapper when requesting manual
+ intervention such as when the linux-tools-flavour is not installed.
+
+ The first of these would be added to the appropriate meta package, the
+ second would come out of the flavour specific packages in the main kernel
+ source package.
+
+ Further we would then be able to name the actual binary packages as produced
by the
+ various source packages to be source package specific. Thus we would have
packages as
+ below:
+
+ linux-tools-abi -- coming out of the master branch
+ linux-grouper-tools-abi -- coming out of the grouper branch
+
+ These would be hidden from the user via the previously listed meta packages
+ and would not be direct installation candidates.
+
+ There is also an additional linux-tools-common package which represents
+ the manual pages and the wrappers. These would be only generated and
+ installed from the master branch and all of the other flavours would
+ (at least initially) share this package.
+
+ The actual binaries will be moved over to names similar to below:
+
+ /usr/lib/srcpkg-tools-abi/binary
+
+ with symlinks in as below for each flavour pointing to the above:
+
+ /usr/lib/linux-tools/binary-abi-flavour

[Bug 1131919] Re: Changing gtk-key-theme-name to Emacs has no effect

2013-07-29 Thread Alex Dicks
The bug was fixed upstream, and the packages in saucy will include this
fix. Until I upgrade, it bothers me sufficiently that I've backported
that patch to the version in raring, and I'll provide a version of GTK+3
with that patch in ppa:ajdicks/gtk-key-theme
https://launchpad.net/~ajdicks/+archive/gtk-key-theme, which I'll hope
to keep up to date until saucy is out of it's infancy.

As well, if
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1173723/comments/28

from kernel.org developers and the Ubuntu community noted in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1173723/comments/27
. This would be limiting your chances of a kernel maintainer addressing
your e-mail, as the information a maintainer would want to see is not
provided.

[Bug 1169715] Re: 1180:0822 mmc0: error -84 whilst initialising SD card

2013-07-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Shevek, as per http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?
an update is available for your BIOS (3.23/3.25). If you update to this,
does it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1202924]

2013-07-29 Thread Dtardon
Another note: gsettings is part of gio, which is itself (source-wise) a
part of glib2. There is no way we are going to bundle glib2, ever.

we bundle harfbuzz into LibreOffice for that case, but we try and keep
that sort of bundling down as much as possible

[Bug 1202924]

2013-07-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I was reading media coverage about the LibreOffice 4.1 release today and
it says that Linux now uses harfbuzz. Harfbuzz is too new to be in RHEL
6 right?

LibreOffice isn't stuck with 2010 technology for the next 2-5 years, is
it?

[Bug 1202924]

2013-07-29 Thread Dtardon
Anyway, there is a BIG difference between harfbuzz, which is used for
text layouting, and gconf/gsettings, which is used to get 2 or 3 keys
from the gnome configuration.

RHEL-6 is the current baseline, any work in the area needs to be able to
build and work on RHEL-6. Don't think anyone is going to work on this on
the near future.

[Bug 1206078] [NEW] notifications send multiple times

2013-07-29 Thread Redmar
Public bug reported:

When rhythmbox switches to a new song, it sends notifications three
times. This happens both with autoplay and manuall skipping to the next
track. Using 'notify-send' to trigger a notification only shows the
notification once, leading me to believe the problem is with rythmbox
rather then the notification service itself.

One other thing I noticed. The first two notifications contain the track
+ album, but no cover art. The last and final notification also contains
the cover art.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10
Package: rhythmbox 2.99.1-0ubuntu1
Uname: Linux 3.11.0-031100rc2-generic i686
