This bug report is missing output of 'banshee --debug' command, so it is being

Was this a one-time occurrence or does it happen frequently?

[Bug 1093472] Re: UEFI boot hangs at purple screen if NIC activated

2013-08-23 Thread Gustavo Guerra
I also have a Dell Inspiron 14z ultrabook with an integrated Atheros
AR8162 Ethernet card and a AR9485 Network controller.

I can boot with Ubuntu 13.04 from a USB pendrive in legacy mode, but I couldn't
in UEFI mode.
I tried all settings using F12 in the boot, and when I disabled the NIC it
worked.

I installed Ubuntu 13.04 in legacy mode, that runs ok, but it can not run in
UEFI mode.
But, again, if I disable the NIC, it works.

It's interesting that even with the NIC disabled, I can access Internet.

Any solution?

[Bug 1142511] Re: Calendar Authentication requests password in Ubuntu 12.10

2013-08-23 Thread Scott
This is extremely annoying. I can't seen to find anything about this on the
web.  Searching google for:
ubuntu "calendar authentication request" leads to only this bug report...

Is there anything I can do? I think I know what caused this. I used to
have the calendar webapp (in 12.04) and then decided to stop using it.
I also turned on the gmail settings for two-step verification.
Immediately after doing that, I started to get this pop-up every single
time I restart my computer! Very annoying.

Even after upgrading to 12.10, this still happens. I even went and re-
installed the webapp and connected using the two step verification, but
this pop-up still persists...

[Bug 41179]

2013-08-23 Thread Burrito Bazooka
I don't know much about the internal workings of the Firefox Project,
but I'm willing to bet that those people using Linux AND using a master
password AND Firefox are of a demographic that would be resistant to
sending anonymous usage data.

[Bug 41179]

2013-08-23 Thread Dolske
Investing time is always a tradeoff. I have a long list of projects to
dramatically improve Firefox for users, and unfortunately the feature
this bug about ranks poorly against that list. The number of users using
a master password and linux is relatively tiny, and there are number
hurdles to even making this a feature suitable to ship (see Brain's
previous posts for a few). That's why an add-on is the right route to
take.

[Bug 1215852] Re: xfce4-indicator-plugin audio widget hides drop-down panel

2013-08-23 Thread Richard Elkins
Thanks. I just tried the work-around in report #1208204 and it worked
for me too:

1. sudo  /usr/share/dbus-1/services/indicator-sound.service
2. Changed the Exec line to be as follows
  Exec=/usr/lib/indicator-sound-gtk2/indicator-sound-service
3. Restarted the desktop.

Back to normal.

[Bug 1215734] Re: GDM ignores keyboard input in lock screen

2013-08-23 Thread Nathan Osman
After some further investigation, it appears that the keyboard input is
actually captured by the application running in the foreground behind
GDM. So if I leave a text editor open, lock the display, come back later
and try to enter my password, whatever I type on the keyboard is entered
into the text editor and not the password entry box in GDM.

[Bug 1216186] [NEW] Elantech touchpad moves and clicks by itself

2013-08-23 Thread Kemel Zaidan aka Legendario
Public bug reported:

I am facing a very annoying hardware problem. It's so bad tha it makes
hard even to report it: the mouse (touchpad in this case) keeps moving
to the left side of the screen and clicking by itself. So all the
programs on the Unity sidebar are keept being opened until the system
gets without memory and very slow.

Since the hardware is a relatively new ultrabook, I tought a newer
kernel could had solve this issue, so I upgrade to saucy. Everything
worked well after the first boot which followed the upgrade but after
rebooting again the same thing started to happen.

That's the device ID given by lsusb command:

Bus 003 Device 003: ID 04f3:0035 Elan Microelectronics Corp.

I also thought it could be a problem with the touchscreen, but dmesg
gives me a lot of error messages for the touchpad, with seems to be
recognized as a psmouse. Installing gpointing-device-settings package
and openning the config tool shows no touchpad related options.

It's been 2 weeks since I noticed, this problem, and hasn't been fixed -
I wonder if there is any tool that lists which packages were bad

Assuming that this was caused by a bad phased-update, that is.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

[Bug 1214931] Re: kernel oops in free_task

2013-08-23 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, which is built up to commit:
201d3dfa4da10ac45b260320b94e2f2f0e10d687

The kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1214931/

Can you test this kernel and post back if it exhibits the bug or not?

[Bug 1213876] Re: printer not seen by CUPS

2013-08-23 Thread Quinn Balazs
To troubleshoot networked printing problems there are a sequence of
steps.

1. ping (ipofprinter)
nmap (ipofprinter)
The first command checks whether you can access the printer through the
network, the second shows which port numbers are used by the printer and
through this which protocols are active (80: Has web interface, 139: SMB, 443:
encrypted IPP or encrypted web interface, 515: LPD, 631: IPP, 9100: Install
nmap if needed.

2. Run the commands:
 $ /usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp
 $ sudo /usr/lib/cups/backend/dnssd
These will give whether the printer is found by CUPS or system-config-printer
and with what device protocols they are found with.

3. Run the command
$ /usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp
If and only if a printer does not get found by the simple
"/usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp" call.

4. Find out if your printer gets detected by CUPS:
$ lpinfo -v

5. Run the commands:
$ avahi-browse -a -v -t -r
$ avahi-browse -a -v -c -r
These commands show whether your printer is visible via DNS-SD/mDNS/BonJour.

Attach the outputs of each of these to this bug report.

Also CUPS has a web interface that gives troubleshooting tools and
helpful information  http://127.0.0.1:631/

Please also enable CUPS debugging by following these instructions:

Navigate to system - administration - printing, click the gear icon and select
printer, select server in the main menu (top bar) and then settings Then check
the checkbox "Save debugging information for troubleshooting" and click "Apply".

In all Ubuntu flavors (also Kubuntu and server editions) you can run
$ cupsctl LogLevel=debug
to activate debug logging.

In Karmic and later (CUPS 1.4.x) there is an automatic debug logging only for
failed print jobs. So if you problem was a failed print job, the error_log can
already contain the desired information. Unfortunately, only 200 debug message
lines get logged per failed job. Run the command
$ cupsctl LogDebugHistory=99
for practically unlimited logging of failed jobs.

In older versions of all flavors, where there is not yet a "cupsctl" command,
edit the file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, find the line LogLevel ... and change it to
LogLevel debug, save the file. Then restart CUPS:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

Clear the queue from any stuck jobs by deleting the jobs in the job
viewer or running the "cancel -a" command.

Try to print something. Wait until the job disappears from the queue or turns
into "Stopped" state, independent whether something gets out of the printer. If
the job never reaches "Stopped" state after the printer not showing any
reaction for a longer time you also can go on to the next step.
Scan or photograph the printout if it is not correct and attach the images to
the bug report.
Add /var/log/cups/error_log as an attachment to the bug report. Note that the
file is not accessible for normal users. From Jaunty on you can access it from
the account of the first user set up (in general users in the "adm" group).
Otherwise you need to access it as root. To view the file run
$ sudo less /var/log/cups/error_log
and to copy it for attaching to a bug report run
$ sudo cp /var/log/cups/error_log ~
$ sudo chmod 777 ~/error_log

 Hmm, it did a hard reset on the hotplug with seemingly the same
 effect. Can we narrow down the problem any more: does this drive work
 on this machine under any Linux version, or in Windows? Can you try it
 in another Linux machine with a different controller to see if it
 works there?

I've located a spare HDD and loaded Windows 7 on it. In Windows 7 (not
WinPE), I am able to successfully use the BD-ROM drive on both computers
(MCP61 and MCP51 chipsets). So it appears there is a difference in the
drivers between the Windows 7 and WinPE driver. News to me.

I believe this rules out a general hardware incompatibility.

What further can I do?

Thanks
Bruce

[Bug 1214851] Re: wine packages do not install correctly starting with version 1.5

2013-08-23 Thread Quinn Balazs
Please do not report bugs against PPAs on launchpad. PPAs are third
party repositories that are not endorsed nor supported by Ubuntu. The
correct place to report PPA bugs is the PPA homepage, which will have
the preferred contact point for the PPA provider. Also, to attempt to
clear up your confusion, A PPA is a personal package archive. Due to the
fact that it is personal (third party) Ubuntu doesn't support it as it
doesn't come from one of our official repositories. And therefore the
person that would be able to deal with this is whoever put together the
PPA, and this would be found by looking at homepage for the PPA.

That homepage is https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa and the
person you would get in contact with is Scott Ritchie
https://launchpad.net/~scottritchie

[Bug 1142947] Re: webkit--epiphany-browser crashed with SIGSEGV in Decoder()

2013-08-23 Thread Brian Murray
I'm really sorry about my delay in getting back to this. I've recreated
the crash in Saucy and it is in bug 1216158. The youtube video did not
cause a crash, but just going to http://ubuntuonair.com and watching the
charm school video did.

[Bug 1215371] Re: [Kernel-Oops] Kernel NULL pointer dereference at interrupt when doing Centrino clock stuff (drm_kms_helper)

2013-08-23 Thread Quinn Balazs
Additional logs cannot be captured as the panic is triggered on boot. As is
stated in the title from the stack trace it seems that the issue stems from an
issue with clock scheduling. RIP points to handle_cmd_completion+0x25c/0xba0,
cmd, being a python script.
And the kernel is tainted, with PID reading GF I. With all modules running
under GPL, one or more modules having been force loaded using "insmod -f", and
lastly that there was a severe bug in the firmware (either BIOS or other).

Just wanted to put a bit more out to attempt to come close to the kernel
team's policies.

[Bug 1216142] [NEW] Banshee Crashed in middle of playback

2013-08-23 Thread Russell Almond
Public bug reported:

This is just a generic crash. However, there seems to be no option to
check in the aport menu that says "program crashed unexpectedly", so I
checked "sound stopped playing" (which is a trivial consequence). There
needs to be a spontaneous crash option in aport.

Also hopefully the autogenerated stack trace is useful.

[Bug 1216140] [NEW] [GA-880GMA-UD2H, ATI RS690/780 HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2013-08-23 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Public bug reported:

No HDMI Audio out.
When I use Firefox to watch flash video (web tv) and select HDMI audio out
using "Sound settings" the flash video plays twice as fast as it should, and no
sound. If I select other audio output, the speed goes back to normal.

This has been the case for a long time, with Ubuntu 10 and 12 as well,
If I installed the amd driver using "amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1
-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run" the problem was removed. However, this is
no longer possible for 13.04, since the driver will not install due to a
missing "version.h".

[Bug 1211722] Re: VM crashes on Ubuntu 12.04

2013-08-23 Thread Piotr
Thank you.

I found that some packets were dropped on interface working as a bridge
port. The same story is on the second server. I don't if this may have
impact on this crash. You can find this in logs I attached.

Regards

[Bug 1216133] [NEW] fake sync from debain wheezy makes wireshark uninstallable

2013-08-23 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

"""
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.04
Release:13.04
"""

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

"""
$ apt-cache policy wireshark
wireshark:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.8.2-5wheezy4build0.13.04.1
  Version table:
 1.8.2-5wheezy4build0.13.04.1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring-updates/universe amd64
Packages
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring-security/universe amd64
Packages
"""

3) What you expected to happen

I expected that wireshark would be installed successfully.

4) What happened instead

However, due to a "fake" sync from Debian wheezy, the package is no
longer installable in Ubuntu Raring 13.04.

I would suspect, according to the changelog, that wireshark has
effectively been in this uninstallable state since June 5, 2013 when
Marc Deslauriers presumably updated the package with security fixes [1].

[Bug 1209442] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in getCompPluginVTable20090315_unityshell()

2013-08-23 Thread dei
Sadly another two upgrades the next day didn't help either. :-( Anyone
can give me hint how to debug that (I'm a Java-Dev, so shouldn't be hard
if someone can give me a hint where to start)?

Sadly interface-problems happen more and more often since canonical has
started implementing Mir on my computers too. Please let the old unity
be the old and save the fancy new features for unity 8 on mir. Better
forget about backports than possibly destabilize a stable-release that
works for most people.

As far as I understood, a bad update will not be downgraded with phased
updates but upgrades for further users will be blocked. Ubuntu's apt
doesn't have any rollback-mechanics built-in as far as I know (would
need btrfs to support snapshots and rollback before each update).

[Bug 1214059] Re: Wifi and bluetooth disabled at boot and hard to re-enable

2013-08-23 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Ok, after a lot of time git bisect tell me that the bad commit is
a53ee0a308b16e392e0219c585b10f329345766b.

It turns out this commit was reverted yesterday in
e2982a04ede454b23ea2f5af11ba4d77d8a70155.
My problem is indeed gone in the HEAD kernel.

I guess it's a good news but I'm still a bit disappointed to have wasted
so much time...

[Bug 1216128] [NEW] Banner pages broken in Cups 1.5.3

2013-08-23 Thread George Bobeck
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntun used:
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release:12.04

2) The version of the package
# apt-cache policy cups
cups:
  Installed: 1.5.3-0ubuntu6

3) Expected behavior:

I attempted to configure my local printer to use the the "confidential"
CUPS banner page through the web based gui. I have included a snippet
of the /etc/cups/printers.conf file to show that the change was applied
corectly.

snippet from /etc/cups/printers.conf
...

Info Color Printer
Location Printer Room
DeviceURI lpd://PRINTSERVER/ITG-1320
State Idle
StateTime 1308899498
Accepting Yes
Shared Yes
JobSheets confidential none
QuotaPeriod 0
PageLimit 0
KLimit 0
OpPolicy default
ErrorPolicy stop-printer

...

When I print a test page I get a blank template page (see attached jpeg)
followed by the correct ubuntu modified cups test page.

I get the same output (once again, see the attached jpeg) for any banner
page selected and applied.

I have even attempted to replace the contents of
/usr/share/data/confidential with the following:

#CUPS-BANNER
Show job-id job-name job-originating-user-name job-originating-host-name
job-billing
Header Confidential
Footer Confidential

however I still get the blank template page.
