[Bug 1216294] Re: kernel 3.11.0-3-generic BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request

2013-09-02 Thread Tyler Hicks
Here's the proposed patch that I sent to the AppArmor mailing list for
review:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/apparmor/2013-September/004289.html

Here's an i386 test kernel with some kernel debugging options enabled
(CONFIG_DEBUG_ATOMIC_SLEEP, CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERBOSE, CONFIG_DEBUG_SG,
and CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT) and the proposed patch applied:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~tyhicks/lp1216294/

Stefan and Parameswaran, I would appreciate any testing that you can
find the time for. Thanks!

[Bug 1219695] Re: [FFe] Qt 5.1.1

2013-09-02 Thread Scott Kitterman
OK. I think we should include updating pkg-kde-tools in this FFe and
keep the overall diff down. From a release perspective, I think this
update makes sense. Are the product managers for ubuntu-desktop and
touch on board with this? This will affect both their efforts so I
think they should weigh in.

[Bug 1176126] Re: 045e:0721 Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected

2013-09-02 Thread Jürgen Liebmann
This problem is solved!

After reporting bug upstream, the determined hint came from Laurent Pinchart.
I have tested webcam with setting the UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF quirk. With them
webcam works proberly.
Laurent will update the uvcvideo quirks table to set UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF by
default
for this webcam.

My workaround:
I created a file /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf with this content:

options uvcvideo quirks=0x100

Now the webcam workes properly.

[Bug 1219498] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP ProBook 4530s] suspend/resume failure

2013-09-02 Thread Sander Jonkers
An interesting result:

With 13.10, when I close the laptop lid and remove the power cable, after one
night the battery will be empty and upon a fresh, powered boot I will get the
crash reported here.
With 12.04.3, with the closed lid & removed power cable, after one night the
laptop could just start up on it's own battery that was still 100% full. IMHO
this is behaviour as expected

So: two problems (battery going empty and crash-report-after-boot), or
one combined problem?

I will now force an empty battery on 12.04.3 by keeping the lid open
while the laptop is unpowered

That bug is about kernel Linux 3.5.0-18-generic x86_64, and this bug is

will propably install OK on Ubuntu 12.04.2, but IT DOESN'T WORS with

No, I don't see downsides to updating pkg-kde-tools. The delta is
essentially this commit http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-kde/pkg-
kde-tools.git;a=commitdiff;h=bd3ddd5ae38ee392f10ac7f255676372f14d63b7
since Ubuntu already has 0.15.7ubuntu4. 0.15.8ubuntu1 would thus be
needed:

The NEW packages in the list now reflect packages that are new to

[Bug 1195874] Re: indicator-datetime-service crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2013-09-02 Thread Ernie 07
Is it too early in the development cycle to expect to be able to execute
an installation without experiencing errors?

How can a Beta be released in a few days when I get this error at the
beginning of a USB install of the amd 64-bit desktop timestamped
2013-09-02 08:17?

1. I could NOT get the CD creator in 13.04 to complete without throwing
an error, so I used 12.04.3 to reformat the usb and change it into a
bootable device using the iso mentioned above.

2. Booted

3. Selected install Ubuntu

4. Waited a short while was greeted with this message

[Bug 1204297] Re: vlc does not play audio

2013-09-02 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Please don't undo others' work. A vlc dev marked your report 'Invalid'
as a bug with vlc because the information you've provided doesn't verify
that the issue is specific to vlc.

You never told us what audio output you're trying to use, whether you reset the
configuration, installed the pulse plugin, etc.
Audio information might be helpful as well:

[Bug 934095] Re: Backlight control does not work correctly on Toshiba Satellite L750-17P.

2013-09-02 Thread Victoid
Hello all,

After going a bit grey, I found that /sys/class/backlight/toshiba breaks
after suspend, but /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight continues to
function ('echo $number > backlight' after resume from suspend). Some
great folks over at Arch have figured this one out. I have a Toshiba
Portege R705, and this does the trick:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_Graphics#Backlight_not_fully_adjusting.2C_or_adjusting_at_all_after_resume.

Adapting this for Ubuntu 13.04:

1) sudo vi /etc/default/grub

2) change the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT as follows:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor"

3) sudo update-grub

4) Configure X11 to use the intel_backlight. Create a file called
20-intel.conf here:

sudo vi /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

5) Paste in the following:

Section "Device"
Identifier "card0"
Driver "intel"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"

EndSection

6) Reboot and bask in glorious brightness control. Suspend/resume and
it continues to function normally from the Fn-F6/F7 keys.

[Bug 934095] Re: Backlight control does not work correctly on Toshiba Satellite L750-17P.

2013-09-02 Thread Victoid
Just to add, I noticed above that the original bug refers to nvidia
rather than intel graphics, and the fix I listed is particularly
appropriate only for Portege laptops with Intel graphics. The symptoms
for intel graphics seems to be identical to that listed in the original
bug report.

[Bug 1159232] Re: Running iwconfig crashes (freezes) MacBookAir3, 1 requiring hard reboot

2013-09-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sean Sosik-Hamor, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal

and attach updated debug information to this report:

[Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin

2013-09-02 Thread Alistair Buxton
Actually, I'm not sure how the reporter of bug 1219938 even got the
bluetooth indicator to appear in Xubuntu given that is has no gtk2
version.

[Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin

2013-09-02 Thread Alistair Buxton
@daniel: I don't think it is directly related to the xfce4 indicator
applet - I'm testing gtk3/indicator-ng support from upstream, and with
it the sound menu works fine, but bluetooth menu is still broken. So it
is either unrelated bugs, or something fixed in indicator-sound and not
indicator-sound-gtk2 and indicator-bluetooth (which has no gtk2
version).

[Bug 1218815] Re: [radeon] Graphic glitches and screen corruption since the latest update

2013-09-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Interesting the workaround would not work, because it looks like bypass
mode has the wrong pixel format. But I'm also glad bypass isn't broken
too. Please double-check that the workaround really does not help. Also
remember to reboot.

Secondly, please try this (or something like it):
  1. sudo apt-get install mir-demos
  2. Reproduce the corruption
  3. Switch to a VT that works (Ctrl+Alt+F1) or install openssh-server and ssh
in.
  4. sudo mir_demo_client_egltriangle
  5. Switch back to VT 7: Ctrl+Alt+F7
Now, is the triangle visible without corruption? Can you take another photo?

If all else fails, are you able to look in your /var/cache/apt/archives/ and
find which package version introduced the bug, by installing slightly older
versions? You can just:
cd /var/cache/apt/archives/
sudo dpkg -i
