[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-10-19 Thread Jarno Suni
As for #19, the workaround stopped working in my last session for some
reason, i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F7 bybassed password prompt again. Logging out and
in again made it work again. I would not call light-locker reliable,
yet.

[Bug 1242255] [NEW] Desktop Action causes excessive busy cursor if not invoking new window

2013-10-19 Thread jacobbrett
Public bug reported:

[Ubuntu 13.10]

Due to the implemented fix at bug #1179155, pressing a Desktop Action in
a menu item’s context menu will cause a ~15 second busy cursor if the
Desktop Action does not invoke a new window.

E.g. this works fine:

[Desktop Action NewWindow]
Name=New Window
Exec=firefox -new-window

These also work, though the busy cursor remains, even though the action
may have completed:

[Desktop Action NewTab]
Name=New Tab
Exec=firefox -new-tab

[Desktop Action Next]
Name=Next
Exec=rhythmbox-client --next

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-10-19 Thread Jarno Suni
I was trying to tell in the previous comment: Note that slock does not
even display password prompt, but a blank screen you have to type
password in, and there is no way to make a new login by slock. However,
if you run "slock &" and then "dm-tool switch-to-greeter" in lxlock, you
have that ability.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-10-19 Thread Roman Vorobets
I use Dvorak and Russian layouts. Now hotkeys in Russian layout work
like the layout was QWERTY, not Dvorak, which is very inconvenient, as I
have to use different physical keys when I switch layouts. It worked
flawlessly for years, and now it's broken.

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-10-19 Thread Jarno Suni
Well, #19 describes a workaround, but it requires using a package from a
PPA repository https://launchpad.net/~light-locker/+archive/release .

Another workaround that uses a package from Universe repository of
Ubuntu and works around Bug #1229486, too, is here: Install suckless-
tools, edit /usr/bin/lxlock to run slock insead of any other locking
utility (or add a script named lxlock at /usr/local/bin/ to run slock).
Note that slock does not even display password prompt, but a blank
screen you have to type password in, and there is no way to swit. xlock
would be better, but xlockmore package containing it is no more
available in Ubuntu repositories. Neither of those work with xfce4
-power-manager that uses xscreensaver, which have to be run as a daemon;
if you are going to suspend/hibernate+lock by xfce4-power-manager, you
have to autostart xfce4-power-manager (edit in lxsession-edit) and
xscreensaver (how?) and then you may want to use "xscreensaver-command
-lock" in lxlock, instead of slock. xscreensaver allows new login.

Re: [Bug 1240336] Re: Not authorized to perform operation....

2013-10-19 Thread edbond
Well, it works for installing packages from software center (auth dialog
appears), still fails silently sometimes (for example when I try to remove
software source PPA).

I also created a new admin user, by running sudo gnome-control-center ->
Users & Groups.
For that user everything works fine.

Eduard

After I upgraded to ubuntu 13.10, the key to switch the keyboard layout
was not functionning anymore.

I tried to access the "Keyboard Layout", and the "Region & Language"
settings in the Gnome Control Center, but it simply crashes when I click
most icons in the Gnome Control Center. At best, it loads something then
crashes.

[Bug 1229370] Re: Launcher is empty saying "Sorry, there is nothing that matches your search"

2013-10-19 Thread Tomdkat
I also started having this problem after upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04
(64-bit) to 13.10.  I checked and I also have unity-scope-home
installed, so I'm not sure why I would be getting this problem. Can we
change the status from Invalid back to New?

Peace...

[Bug 1242245] [NEW] No longer respects xfconf's xsettings/Gtk/ColorScheme property

2013-10-19 Thread Trent McPheron
Public bug reported:

I don't know what underlying mechanics are targeted by xfconf's
xsettings/Gtk/ColorScheme property, but GTK 3 applications no longer
care about it. In 13.04, I used to be able to change the colors of both
GTK 2 and GTK 3 themes all with just that property, but now only GTK 2
applications respect that property.

To reproduce:
On an XFCE system like Xubuntu, use xfce4-settings-editor to edit the
Gtk/ColorScheme property in the xsettings channel. Set it to something like
"bg_color:#ff;" (or any background color not used by your theme that you
will easily notice is different). Notice immediately that the background color
of your GTK 2 windows have changed. Now, open any GTK 3 application like
file-roller, gcalctool, or update-manager.

Expected Result:
The background color of the GTK 3 window has changed, and thus GTK 3
applications match GTK 2 applications.

What Happens Instead:
The ColorScheme property is ignored and the applications don't match.

[Bug 1242243] [NEW] In fullscreen, the buttons/overlays do not appear

2013-10-19 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

This may be targetting the wrong thing because they do appear on another
computer. Anyway:

1. Play video in Totem
2. Double click to fullscreen said video
3. Move mouse.

What happens:
Nothing.

What is expected:
Overlays displaying the scrubber, pause, and leave fullscreen options/buttons
should appear.

Now, as I said, I DO NOT have this issue on another computer with Saucy
installed. This issue also exists on Raring on the machine it's being
reported on. I believe this may not be Totem that is the issue in that
case, but I can't think of what else to solidly report the bug against.

Will be more than happy to perform more tests to give more information.

2013-10-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1242214/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1242240] [NEW] Strange behaviors of unity

2013-10-19 Thread john ferrier
Public bug reported:

Strange 1:

1) Set "auto hide launcher" to "On";
2) On a laptop close the lid (this would suspend the computer);
3) Open the lid;
4) Login to Ubuntu and you'll find the HUD is opened.

Strange 2:

1) Set "auto hide launcher" to "On";
2) Open fixfox and search something;
3) put your cusor on the first link, press left mouse button and drag it to
left or right and you'll find this bring the hidden launcher back;

Strange 3:

You all could also just use a newer version of x264, the current is a
bit stale, from late april 2013
(same goes for libav which is even older

You can extract the archive from the command line, for example:

[Bug 882054] Re: JPilot no longer connecting to Palm on port usb: under Ubuntu 11.1o

2013-10-19 Thread madpentiste
I also have the same problem. It worked fine on 10.04 LTS, but not on
12.04. My palm is a Tungsten E2.

It is not a problem of device recognition, since the Palm shows up in
the list when typing "lsusb" in a terminal, once the "HotSync" button is
hit.

Since I still have a computer with 10.04, I found a workaround, but it
is cumbersome: I launch jpilot and execute the sync on that 10.04
computer, then transfer the /home/user/.jpilot folder from the 10.04
computer to the 12.04 computer.

[Bug 861108] Re: "Snake" and many other webgl pages crash Firefox

2013-10-19 Thread madbiologist
Bug #1236340 is tracking updating Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" to mesa
9.1.7. Mesa 9.1.7 fixes the follwing upstream bug:

64330 - WebGL snake demo crash in loop_analysis.cpp:506: bool
is_loop_terminator(ir_if*): assertion „inst != __null“ failed.

This fix is also in mesa 9.2, which is used in Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy
Salamander".

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-19 Thread Artem Popov
On a clean Saucy install (Russian layout selected during setup) with the
attente PPA, I have the same behaviour as Valery Kozlov described in
comment #122. No matter if the switch hotkeys are enabled or disabled in
the GUI, I can still switch layouts with ALT+SHIFT.

Strangely, this layout configuration comes from "keyboard-configuration"
package. This is the setxkbmap output on a clean system:

~$ setxkbmap -print -verbose
Trying to build keymap using the following components:
keycodes:   evdev+aliases(qwerty)
types:  complete
compat: complete+ledscroll(group_lock)
symbols:pc+ru+us:2+inet(evdev)+group(alt_shift_toggle)
geometry:   pc(pc105)
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete+ledscroll(group_lock)"};
xkb_symbols   { include
"pc+ru+us:2+inet(evdev)+group(alt_shift_toggle)"};
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
};

Running 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration' affects the
setxkbmap output later, so the console keyboard config clearly makes its
way into X (conflicting with the ibus configuration).

I was also wondering what the problem may be, until I found your report

Spanish (Latin America) keyboard layout and then it goes to an English
layout, although I don't have it as an input source. This happens
frequently to me with skype and mendeley

[Bug 1242229] [NEW] unity-panel-service uses 3% to 5% of one CPU core all the time

2013-10-19 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

unity-panel-service sits at between 3% and 5% of one core, all the time.
That's up to 50 MIPS! What's it doing?

Only standard indicators used, and most Unity lenses and scopes not
installed. Internet access is available and unfiltered. Standard Intel
Mobile 4 GPU.

When I set the datetime indicator to show seconds, unity-panel-service
uses an additional 1% of CPU. That's 10 million instructions each time
the clock ticks!

[Bug 1239251] Re: Navigation button colors are inconsistent

2013-10-19 Thread Vish
Not an issue with Humanity icon theme.
Nautilus developers decided to use monochrome symbolic icons for the
navigation, while other apps use the regular color icons.
Both the icons are available for use.

The Ubuntu project just needs to decide what the standard should be for
apps and then apps just need to follow the project's standard.

[Bug 848562] Re: gnome-shell lock screen does not display password prompt

2013-10-19 Thread Richard Vieregge
I'm having this problem with:
Ubuntu 13.04
2 monitors
Intel processor, no discrete video card.

When pressing CTRL+ALT+L, the screen goes blank and moving the mouse
displays the password dialog.

However, if the screen locks due to inactivity, after moving the mouse displays
the actual desktop not the password dialog.
Clicking on the displayed winodws, etc, doesn't work, and typing my password
does unlock, so the screen saver is still active.

When locked, pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 displays the terminal login, and
pressing CTRL-ALT-F7 goes back to the gui with the password dialog now
displayed.

[Bug 852190] Re: 7392:7811 Edimax EW-7811Un USB dongle won't connect to networks (rtl8192cu module)

2013-10-19 Thread Balinares
It doesn't work here in Saucy, kernel 3.11.0-12-generic. The hardware
(Belkin N300 USB dongle, id F7D2102, using chipset Realtek RTL8192CU) is
recognized properly and the rtl8192cu module loads fine. However, the
hardware fails to see any nearby AP. It worked fine in Raring with
Timothy Phillips' patched driver (https://code.google.com/p/realtek-
8188cus-wireless-drivers-3444749-ubuntu-1304/), which unfortunately
isn't compatible with the 3.11 kernel used in Saucy.

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-10-19 Thread ibere fernandes
Jarno Suni,

in reply to #11 and #13:

a) you need to be logged in, then follow the steps:
- lock the screen with "Shutdown > Lock Screen" ;
- on lightdm screen, just do ctrl+alt+F7 : you arrive on the desktop, without
typing any password.

b) althought the webupd8 article mentioned Ctrl + Alt + 7, i'm sure he
wanted to mean Ctrl + Alt + f7 once that's the correct shortcut to go
back from any tty console.

After all, is there a way to fix this kind of security issue?

I'm not a dev. I'm just a QA tester and so far I can only assure that
anyone can have access to a locked machine running Lubuntu 13.10 just
hitting the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + f7 without any need to input username
or password.

As said before, the machine was locked and before that there was a
username logged in.

Thank you for your kind help,
Iberê
