[Bug 1250838] [NEW] pulseaudio stops playing sound

2013-11-13 Thread Towbes
Public bug reported:

When playing music in a flash player in Google chrome, I would lose
sound on my headphones every 5-10 minutes. In pavucontrol, Chromium
shows up on the playback streams but the actual output bar is frozen in
place. When I click on the configuration tab and change the profile of
my GameCom USB headset, the sound comes back and the stream's output
indicator moves again.

I have attached a verbose log and default.pa both without tsched=0 added
to the udev module load, as adding tsched=0 did not solve the issue.
Please note that I had also commented out load-module module-suspend-on-
idle in default.pa. This change was in effect when logging the
attached log.

[Bug 1197395] Re: /run/user/$ID/pulse owned by root and not by the user

2013-11-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Patch sent to RedHat bug, and applied locally in my systemd packaging
git. With that I think we shoudln't work around this in pulse. David's
proposed patch might still be useful for upstream pulse though, if
upstream systemd refuses to apply this.

[Bug 1181192] Re: 'Develop' tab opens three empty windows

2013-11-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package qtcreator - 2.8.1-0ubuntu1

---
qtcreator (2.8.1-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  [ Pino Toscano ]
  * Disable -Werror when building, as could potentially break depending on
compiler/architecture; patch no-Werror.diff.

  [ Timo Jyrinki ]
  * New upstream release. (LP: #1181192)
  * Drop patches:
- debian/patches/prefer_qmake_to_qmake-qt4.patch, merged upstream
- debian/patches/03_fix_DOCPATH.diff, not needed anymore
  * Refresh patches:
- debian/patches/botan_system_lib.diff
- debian/patches/rpath_nonlinux.diff
  * Create qtcreator-dev to be able to build plugins from
external sources
  * Pick 2.8 changes from Debian:
- Manually call qmake in order to avoid a FTBFS due to dh passing -nocache.
Upstream uses caches to put default data for building, so we need them.
- Compiler flags
  * Update *.install, drop qtcreator.install.linux as not needed anymore
  * No need for override_dh_shlibdeps anymore, dropped
  * Install 'qmlproject' extension handling mimetype (LP: #1233099)

[Bug 1234665] Re: hide all normal windows custom key binding is ignored

I can confirm this too.
The shortcut only works once. I have to reboot or relog to make it work again.
And then, too, it only works once before it breaks up again.

Seems to be the same issue than :

[Bug 1248808] Re: volume and brightness keys are mismapped on Samsung Chromebook

2013-11-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Can you please install the evtest package, run sudo evtest, and
select the device which represents your keyboard? Then you can press the
Fn keys and check which of them have a wrong KEY_* code. Please note
down the scan code, current, and intended key code.

 For example,

Event: time 1384346796.203894, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value 06
Event: time 1384346796.203894, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 227 (KEY_SWITCHVIDEOMODE),
value 0

This is scan code 4 (from code 4 (MSC_SCAN)), and key code
SWITCHVIDEOMODE. With the updated map that you provide I can fix
udev's keymaps.

[Bug 1248808] Re: [keymap] volume and brightness keys on Samsung Chromebook

2013-11-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Or do you mean that pressing e. g. F8 is not actually yielding F8
but some special funtion like projector or brightness? Some laptops
require pressing Fn+F8 to get the actual F8, and the simple F8 is a
hotkey. This often can be switched around in the BIOS, though.

[Bug 1094499] Re: vlc crashed with SIGSEGV in dvdnav_describe_title_chapters()

2013-11-13 Thread Bryce Harrington
Colin, mind opening a new bug for that dvd issue? That looks like a
crash due to a bad pgc-cell_playback_offset value, which is different
from this bug. This one is already closed and considered fixed, so no
further work is going to be done on it.

I seem to recall having a similar issue with that disk, but didn't
investigate it at the time. You might want to test the upstream
libdvdnav/libdvdread, as a lot of fixes have gone into those lately, so
there might already be a patch available. If so, and especially if you
can help identify which patch is needed, that could help accelerate
getting that fix into precise.

[Bug 1250611] Re: shim-signed update unrecognized option

2013-11-13 Thread Simon Déziel
In the meantime, I simply skipped 12.04.1 postinst with this:

  dpkg -l | grep -qE 'shim-signed[[:space:]]+1\.5~12\.04\.1' sed -i '1a exit
0' /var/lib/dpkg/info/shim-signed.postinst
  apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade apt-get dist-upgrade

I had to run dist-upgrade twice, once to finish setting up 12.04.1 and
the last to effectively install 12.04.2

[Bug 1069357] Re: [Dell Vostro V131] Hardware keys change backlight brightness in much larger increments/steps than expected

2013-11-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rafał Ochmański, could you please confirm this issue exists with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains,
please just make a comment to this.

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder, but the one all the way at the bottom) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

James Hewitt, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an
update is available for your BIOS (2.55). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change
anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see

[Bug 1166529] Re: Creative Recon3d Sound Blaster Z (CA0132), No Sound At All; Broken Beyond All Repair

2013-11-13 Thread Marc Bourgoin
Heyyo,

Now on the latest versions of the Linux Kernel? All of the Sound Blaster
Recon 3D sound cards all work perfectly fine in 32bit. I believe it was
kernel 3.9 that added a compatible driver... sadly though the kernel's
built in driver doesn't seem to work in 64bit. :(

Tested with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint. All the same results.
32bit works perfect but 64bit doesn't work properly if at all. It's
definitely the kernel that makes the difference.

On the 2nd monitor attached to laptop, the display is delayed and/or corrupted
(e.g. keypresses appear after 0.5 seconds, or see attache photo, replicable by
moving the mouse cursor).
The laptop display doesn't experience this.

[Bug 1250837] Re: Schedule doesn't work correctly

2013-11-13 Thread Petya Kohts
You didn't read documentation carefully enough, qouting:

Note: The day of a command's execution can be specified by two fields --
day of month, and day of week. If both fields are restricted (ie,
aren't *), the command will be run when either field matches the cur-
rent time. For example,
30 4 1,15 * 5 would cause a command to be run at 4:30 am on the 1st
and 15th of each month, plus every Friday.

So your schedule means run when it is 6:30 AND november AND (tuesday OR
day of month is one of 8,9,10,11,12,13,14 )

This is not a bug, but by design.

[Bug 1246664] Re: Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 515067

2013-11-13 Thread Mélodie
Hi Damian,

I just reinstalled the 3.2.0-55 generic to check, and yes here it does
not trigger errors. Only the next one does.

[melodie@peluche:~]$ uname -a
Linux peluche 3.2.0-55-generic #85-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 2 13:43:27 UTC 2013 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux

dmesg done just after reboot:
[melodie@peluche:~]$ dmesg | grep zram
[ 32.717593] zram: module is from the staging directory, the quality is
unknown, you have been warned.
[ 32.719059] zram: Creating 2 devices ...
[ 32.811519] init: zram-config pre-start process (1033) terminated with
status 1
[melodie@peluche:~]$

And zram is up and running, whereas with the next version it is started
during the boot, but then stopped I don't know when. What is sure is
that after the lines of Buffer I/O error zram is not loaded nor used
in the session.

Regards,
Mélodie

[Bug 1249705] Re: HDMI output not available in 13.10

2013-11-13 Thread Raymond
http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-
lib.git;a=blob_plain;f=src/conf/cards/HDA-Intel.conf;hb=HEAD

the workaround may be

1) remove index= 16 and skip_rest for HDA-Intel.pcm.iec958.0
2) change index $CTLINDEX to index 1 for HDA-Intel.pcm.hdmi.common

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/gpu-hdmi-audio-document/gpu-hdmi-audio.html

what you need to discuss with pulseaudio and alsa develoers are

12.5. Verify Your ELD Is Valid

To validate that the ALSA driver is aware of your monitor, check the eld
files. Recall that older chipsets (ION and earlier) don’t support ELD
reporting, and hence the ELD files will not exist. In this case, ALSA
always assumes that all audio features are available.

For example,

$ cat /proc/asound/card1/eld#3.0
monitor_present 1
eld_valid 1
monitor_nameDELL U2410
connection_type HDMI
eld_version [0x2] CEA-861D or below
edid_version[0x3] CEA-861-B, C or D
manufacture_id 0xac10
product_id 0xf016
port_id 0x4
support_hdcp0
support_ai 0
audio_sync_delay0
speakers[0x1] FL/FR
sad_count 1
sad0_coding_type[0x1] LPCM
sad0_channels 2
sad0_rates [0xe0] 44100 48000 88200
sad0_bits [0xe] 16 20 24

For HDMI audio to work, both monitor_present and eld_valid must be 1.
Furthermore, there will typically be evidence of at least some supported
audio formats.

[Bug 1250208] Re: `stop salt-master` causes upstart to hang

2013-11-13 Thread Joe Healy
I (the debian maintainer) have been able to confirm this bug in saucy.

I suspect it is due to the use of respawn in the /etc/init/salt-
master.conf file.

I didn't seem to be able to set the importance, but once salt is
installed, shutdowns are severely delayed as the system waits for the
salt-master to stop properly.

Once this has gone though Ubunutu processes, please send my a diff and

printer with text driver
and all performs the same, no difference, the terminal command lp -d text
-oraw test.txt prints
once every time after usb cable reconnection

then I connected my HP deskjet F2492 printer, it automaticalley appeared in
printers, and it
worked perfect, both print and scan. BUT, since then, no print at all to the
usb to parallel dot matrix
jobs stay forever in the text queue, even after cable reconnection. To get to
the previous situation
I had to delete the Deskjet printer, physically disconnect it, and reboot the
computer

Then everything can be reproduced, again, exactly the same behaviour

[Bug 1249627] Re: usb to parallel prints only once

2013-11-13 Thread Till Kamppeter
Try the following:

First, follow the instructions of the section USB printer does not
print or prints garbage on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems, especially the steps
2 and 3.

Does one of these changes help? Which one. Try also both options
together.

If nothing helps, boot 13.10 and edit the file
/usr/share/cups/usb/org.cups.usb-quirks, adding a line like one of these
(only one of them at the same time):

050d 0002 unidir
050d 0002 no-reattach
050d 0002 soft-reset

try also combinations by adding more than one option in one line (but it
must stay only one line for your device):

050d 0002 unidir no-reattach
050d 0002 unidir no-reattach soft-reset

Try also other combinations.

For each attempt save the file, re-plug the cable/printer, print several
jobs. Which settings make it work for you?

[Bug 887793] Re: Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU

2013-11-13 Thread Mathias-bavay
The problem also appears with kernel 3.8.0-33-generic on my laptop (see
my other comments above). I am now 100% positive this is linked to the
wifi (ipw2200 card). I loose all network connectivity, thunderbird gets
crazy (high cpu usage) and I see one or two kworker processes. Turning
wifi off does not solve the problem (even waiting several minutes), but
when turning it back, it solves the problem right away (the kworkers
disapear and thunderbird starts behaving again).

[Bug 1250872] [NEW] top status bar missing shutdown button, clock, more on upgrade to 13.10

2013-11-13 Thread hufemj
Public bug reported:

When the login window is displayed, the top status bar has what it
should - the gear icon, clock, etc. However, once I login it's blank. I
tried something in the forums that did get the Dropbox and network
manager icons back, but not the rest of the usual icons.

mark@mark-desktop:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10

I added a new user to test and the status bar for the new user is
completely bank.

If I let the session time out so that the screen locks and then move the
mouse or type on the keyboard to bring the login window up, the status
bar is correctly displayed. But after logging in it is gone again.

I have both Python 2.7.5+ and 3.3.2+ installed:

mark@mark-desktop:~$ which python
/usr/bin/python
mark@mark-desktop:~$ python
Python 2.7.5+ (default, Sep 19 2013, 13:48:49)

mark@mark-desktop:~$ which python3
/usr/bin/python3
mark@mark-desktop:~$ python3
Python 3.3.2+ (default, Oct 9 2013, 14:50:09)

The same environment worked just fine under 13.04.

[Bug 905497] Re: gvfs should auto reconnect when disconnected

2013-11-13 Thread Victor Yap
For users who use gvfs exclusively in a desktop environment:

This kind of issue is apparently somewhat addressed by a program called
Gigolo (http://www.uvena.de/gigolo/index.html)

It makes it easier for me to do the reconnecting. More specifically, it
doesn't care if the mount was left dangling; it's smart enough to sort
that out simply by being asked to connect.

As for those who might be using gvfs to support CLI operations... maybe
Gigolo's source code can reveal some potentially useful insights that
can be carried into gvfs... http://git.xfce.org/apps/gigolo

[Bug 1250877] [NEW] Python3 modules are not installed in the right path

2013-11-13 Thread Shu Hung (Koala)
Public bug reported:

[Note: this might be a bug in autoconf rather than automake, I'm not
entirely sure]

On Ubuntu (and I think also on Debian), Python3 modules are installed in
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages

However, that's different from the upstream path, which is
/usr/lib/python3.3/site-packages

Python3 modules building with the Autotools will get installed in the
upstream-preferred path, and as a result, Python3 won't find them.

Here is a way to reproduce it:

1. First, install libcangjie from Git:

git clone git://github.com/Cangjians/libcangjie
cd libcangjie
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr make sudo make install

2. Now, install pycangjie:

git clone git://github.com/Cangjians/pycangjie
cd pycangjie
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr make sudo make install

(you might need to install some dependencies, like libsqlite3-dev,
python3-de and cython)

Now, observe how the module was installed in /usr/lib/python3.3/site-
packages/cangjie, where Python3 won't find it.

This installation path is not hardcoded in the pycangjie build process,
it is **automatically discovered by the autotools**.

If Ubuntu (or is it Debian?) decides to change where Python3 modules are
installed, then shouldn't it also try to ensure that they actually get
installed there?

** Affects: automake (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1250883] [NEW] Optimizer's mistake

2013-11-13 Thread Shkarnikov Sergey
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
gcc version: 4.6.3-1ubuntu5

It's a slightly modificated test case from gcc-4.6.3 testsuite
(920612-1.c):

int main(){
 int a = 0;
 if ((int)((~0u)  (1  +  a))+1  0)
  abort();
 exit(0);
}

It operates fine after compilation with -O0 or -O1 option (exit is
executed), but changes behavior if compiled with -O2 or -O3 (abort is
executed). Decompilation shows that optimizer reduces the code down to
abort(); . Besides, if variable a is absent, bug is absent even with
O3 optimization. So in simple case the optimizer takes into account the
overflow, but misses it after a trivial change of the code.

[Bug 1250889] [NEW] Sync syslog-ng 3.5.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-11-13 Thread Artur Rona
Public bug reported:

Please sync syslog-ng 3.5.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Merge from Debian unstable. (LP: #1205125) Remaining changes:
   - debian/control: remove libsystemd-daemon-dev build-depends
   - debian/rules: remove --with-systemdsystemunitdir from
 override_dh_auto_configure.

Since libsystemd-daemon-dev exists in Ubuntu archive, delta can be
dropped.

Changelog entries since current trusty version 3.3.9-1ubuntu1:

syslog-ng (3.5.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Gergely Nagy alger...@madhouse-project.org ]
  * New upstream release.
+ Support auto-loading modules (Closes: #650814)
+ The SMTP module is available in syslog-ng-mod-smtp (Closes: #722746)
+ New modules: amqp, geoip, stomp, redis and smtp.
+ Multi-line input support (indented multiline and regexp-based)
+ Template type hinting for the MongoDB destination and $(format-json)
+ Support for unit suffixes in the configuration file
+ New filters, template functions and other miscellaneous changes
  * New (team) maintainer, Laszlo Boszormenyi, Attila Szalay and myself
added to Uploaders.
  * Ship /var/lib/syslog-ng in the syslog-ng-core package, instead of
creating it in the init script. Thanks Michael Biebl
bi...@debian.org for the report assistance. (Closes: #699942, #719910)
  * Use dh-systemd for proper systemd-related maintainer scripts. Based on
a patch by Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org. (Closes: #713982,
#690067)
  * Do not wait for syslog-ng to settle down during installation / update.
This also fixes installing via debootstrap and a fake
start-stop-daemon. (Closes: #714254)

[Bug 1010625] Re: named logs are not being reported in logwatch

2013-11-13 Thread Craig
@Robie: Any progreess here? I noticed that awhile back I had
inadvertently changed the status from triaged to confirmed. I am unable
to change it back to triaged. Robie, could you please change the status
back to triaged?

Is there some reason why this has not gone anywhere? Earlier I proposed
two possible fixes:

1) Remove the 'LogFile = messages' line completely from all of the
aforementioned .conf files. The result will be that the default
location(s) will be searched/parsed for messages. The current default is
'All' This is simple and straightforward. Or...

2) Change the 'LogFile = messages' line to 'LogFile = syslog' in all of
the aforementioned .conf files.

Robie, could you comment on these? Good? Bad? If either of them are
acceptable, could we move forward? If neither are acceptable, could you
suggest an alternative?

Thanks.
