[Bug 1236653]

2013-11-15 Thread Kenxeth
Fixed in Mesa 9.2.3 (out today), the upcoming Mesa 10.0 release, or Mesa
master.

This fixes the Sandybridge-specific GPU hang where i915_error_state (aka
/sys/class/drm/card0/error) lists an IPEHR of 0x79050005.

If you experience a GPU hang and your IPEHR is not 0x79050005, that is a
different bug.

Thanks again for your patience!

[Bug 1236653]

2013-11-15 Thread Greatquux
Sorry to re-open but I wanted to include one more detail - either a
recent update fixed this for me, or a recent change I made to my BIOS
settings (changing my fan speed from normal to turbo in my
motherboard BIOS) has made me unable to reproduce this hang, even after
long periods of scrolling complex maps in Google Maps. I can definitely
raise the temperature nearly 10C by doing this, but with the fans on
turbo (and this only seems to make it slightly louder) the hang does not
occur. Hopefully this will help anyone else with these issues - always
try to cool the processor as much as possible!

A hang in the bsd can't be a mesa issue. Also since it's inside the
batch it's not one of the known kernel issues. Please upgrade libva
(only thing that uses the bsd ring) and if it still fails fail a new bug
against lib.

2013-11-15 Thread John Edward Reed
Public bug reported:

This all started when I used Software Updater earlier this week. (I use once
weekly to keep system up to date).
Looks as if update of GNOME multi protocol chat and call client (nautilus-send

that I use this software)
Got the message:

[Bug 1182734] Re: Slide out toolbar should be displayed by default on the desktop (swiping is difficult)

2013-11-15 Thread Jose Luis Tirado
In my opinion just including a menu with an option to reveal the toolbar
would make a difference. Not the best option, for sure, but I least
something that any desktop user could expect. The application is
completely useless for a desktop environment as it is, having no menu,
no toolbar and not being integrated with the messaging indicator (even
the old gwibber allowed to post messages from there). Even having to
pull the upper panel down to refresh is bizzarre for a desktop.

[Bug 1210785] Re: wpa_supplicant crashed with SIGSEGV

2013-11-15 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
In its current state, there just isn't much we can do with this bug. I
had been fortunate enough to get a stacktrace previously from one of
the duplicates, but it's missing just as much data as what's currently
included.

To get this bug in a usable state where I can fix the issue (and
sorry, I just haven't had luck reproducing it yet), I'd need someone who
is able to reproduce the bug easily to try the following:

1) Add my ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~mathieu-tl/+archive/sru-staging?field.series_filter=saucy):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mathieu-tl/sru-staging

Note, it will take a few hours for the wpasupplicant packages to build.
The only change is to add a package with debugging symbols so we can
figure out what is going on.

2) install the debug packages and the wpasupplicant with extra debugging
package from my PPA:

sudo apt-get install libc6-dbg
sudo apt-get install wpasupplicant-dbg wpasupplicant

3) Delete any files named wpasupplicant* from /var/crash (to make sure
we get to see what happens)

4) Reboot (important! we need to make sure the new wpasupplicant gets
used)

5) Reproduce the issue.

Once wpasupplicant crashes you should see it creates a file in
/var/crash with its name: wpasupplicant.0.crash or something similar.
Please send me this file via email at mathieu (at) canonical.com , make
sure the subject is something meaningful.

I won't need five of them, just one is necessary, so please only do this
if you feel confident I could answer you and ask for a bit more
tinkering, like installing another debug package for libnl, if it comes
to it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1226172] Re: iostat: Cannot open /proc/stat: Cannot allocate memory

2013-11-15 Thread Ron
I believe it did occur in Quantal, but I am not 100% certain. These
servers had Quantal for a very shot time (~1 day), because we required
kernel features present only in Raring+, for use with Ceph/Rados.
Raring was still 3-4 months from release, but we were pulling Raring
Kernels into Quantal. These servers have been fully Raring based since
its official release.

I have loaded kernellinux-headers-3.12.0-031200-generic (trusty),
the one from the bottom, to ensure we're thorough.

Your original instructions were confusing. On the page you provided,
there is a section titled Mainline Kernel Mapping, and a single link
current which points directly to that Daily kernel. The (fool-proof)
link would be: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline

[Bug 980766] Re: Remmina fullscreen jumps between workspaces

2013-11-15 Thread K B
f it is full-screen on my right-hand monitor, when it re-gains focus
after I have done something else, it jumps to a different workspace.

So for me, the workaround is to simply leave the Remmina fullscreen in
the left-most position of the workspace, and it will not jump between
work spaces.

2013-11-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1251637] Re: Problems pairing Apple's Magic trackpad in 13.10

2013-11-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1251637/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Public bug reported:

After doing an update to Ubuntu 13.04, the laptop wwould go thru the
motions of shutting down but would NOT complete the shutdown. The drive
light continues to flicker and the 2 status lights on the front of the
laptop remain lit. I tried to correct this issue by installing Ubuntu
13.10 from a DVD over the existing Ubuntu 13.04. This was before I saw
all the problems showing up with the release. It installed but had some
options that had to be corrected. The machine still will not after
getting several updates since. This machine is set up as a dual-boot
with Windows Vista. The Windows side shutsdown without any issues.
This shutdown problem affects the lptop and not my Zotac desktop
machine. It appears to be a problem in the shutdown of laptops and not
desktop machines.

The only way I can shut it down or reboot the machine is to HARD
Shutdown the machine and then press the POWER button to start it back
up.

Re: [Bug 1182484] Re: can't install xubuntu-desktop

2013-11-15 Thread Michael Probst
This was so long ago that I am partially guessing here, but, if I
remember correctly I believe that update manager was set to allow
automatic upgrade when a new version is released and when it tried to do
so it ran into the bug which was automatically reported. I was
oblivious to this for a while but eventually caught on. As I am on the
LTS version and will probably only upgrade when the next LTS is released
I eventually disabled the automatic upgrade option in the update manager
and have had no more issues. It updates the system now instead of
trying to upgrade to a newer version. Thanks...

[Bug 1251688] [NEW] Ubuntu installer chooses non-unique name of lvm volume group, which makes it impossible to mount the second one

2013-11-15 Thread Tomasz Bartczak
Public bug reported:

Having two drives on my computer it happened to me to install ubuntu
once on one drive and again on the other.

In both situations I picked a typical installation using whole drive
with LVM and disk encryption.

Effect is that I got two Logical Volumes both named ubuntu-vg

Consequence of that is when I boot any of the drives - In Unity I can
click the other drive, put a password to unlock it, but after unlocking
- it disappears at least from Nautilus perspective.

Workaround I found after googling is to run vgrename on one, and after
that it is possible to mount it using standard nautilus tools.

Ubuntu installer should check if there is another Volume with the same
name and create a new one with unique name.

running openconnect from the command line?

There are some relative noobs who are not sure how to do this exactly
and who find the instructions from the terminal and here
(http://www.infradead.org/openconnect/manual.html) a little confusing.

Issue is also being discussed on the ubuntuforums:

Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

[Bug 1229591] Re: display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade

2013-11-15 Thread Chris Stratford
Trying bisecting didn't work for me, as (according to the wiki's
translation of the output) it spans non-linear tags. My attempt to
build from a 3.10 mainline kernel produced an image that suffered from
the same issue, but that didn't provide a linux-image-extras package
which seems to be necessary for the brightness controls to work.

Re: [Bug 1249627] Re: usb to parallel prints only once

2013-11-15 Thread fhc
no way

it does not create any /dev/usb/lpx but a new /dev/lpx
with the ubuntu live cd it created /dev/lp1
with my installed ubuntu 13.10 it created /dev/lp0

therefore I typed this command:

lpadmin -p test -E -v parallel:/dev/lp0 -P /etc/cups/ppd/texto.ppd

(or /dev/lp1)

the jobs stay in the test queue and never get printed, reconnecting
does not make any change

fyi, I copy here the software versions:

ubuntu 13.10 live cd
kernel 3.11.0-12-generic #19-Ubuntu x86_64
gnome-session 3.9.90
CUPS 1.7rc1

ubuntu 13.10 instakked and updated
kernel 3.11.0-13-generic #20-Ubuntu x86_64
gnome-session 3.9.90
CUPS 1.7rc1

I get the feeling that the problem is cups
does it make sense to try CUPS 1.5.4 with ubuntu 13.10 ?
if so, do you know how can I reverse cups to that version?

Create a print queue using the command

 lpadmin -p test -E -v parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 -P /etc/cups/ppd/texto.ppd

(Use parallel:/dev/usb/lp1 if you have only a /dev/usb/lp1).

Can you reliably print through this queue.

[Bug 947697] Re: Atheros AR9285 Wireless on Ubuntu 12.04 is slow, unstable and has a weak signal.

2013-11-15 Thread GreyGeek
I've been having this problem with my AR9462 wifi chip for several months. It
randomly disconnects, with the uptime varying between a minute and 10 minutes.
The speed often drops to 1Mb/s and remains there, rendering the connection
worthless.
I've tried a variety of kernels from 3.2 to 3.8.
I've tried various combinations of the ath9k params, but no combination seems
to help the 0168C, 0034 device.
Dmesg merely reports:

and then it stops. I have no idea what reason=3 means, since it isn't
disconnecting by my choice.
There are no errors or failures for this driver listed in the system logs.

I had been running Kubuntu 12.04.3 since it was beta and to avoid the
problem I began using a cat5 connection to my modem because my wireless
connection is worthless.

Last week I switched to KWheezy 1.3 to bypass the Ubuntu repositories and
connect directly with Debian's.
The problem persists.

[Bug 1251680] Re: package plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text 0.8.2-2ubuntu30 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2013-11-15 Thread Steve Langasek
This shows that the /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-text directory is
missing from your system. This directory is part of the plymouth-theme-
ubuntu-text package, so if it's not present you have a broken
installation. You will need to reinstall the plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text
package with 'sudo apt-get install --reinstall plymouth-theme-ubuntu-
text'.

2013-11-15 Thread John Edward Reed
Thank you. Your instructions have fixed the problem.

First I executed

/sudo apt-get clean/

Then I ran the software updater. It failed again:

The package system is broken

If you are using third party repositories then disable them, since
they are a common source of problems.
Now run the following command in a terminal: apt-get install -f

Details:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

nautilus-sendto-empathy: Depends: libgudev-1.0-0 (= 147) but
1:175-0ubuntu9.4 is installed
  Depends: empathy-common (=
3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1) but 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1.1 is installed

But this time when I ran /apt-get install -f/ the problem was fixed:

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

2013-11-15 Thread Derek White
M.S.: no, clicking on the icon will not minimise the app. We have a
minimise button for that, it's prominent.

I agree with #361, it is NOT prominent. This is a terrible reason to
break desktop functionality that has existed for over a dozen years. Get
your head out of your ass M.S.

[Bug 1184262] Re: times out too early, stuck in PrepareForSleep, causing network and other services to not resume

Doesn't work for me either. I installed systemd-shim/saucy-proposed,
rebooted, suspended, waited 15 minutes and turned it on again - wifi
didn't work. sudo killall NetworkManager still solves the problem, so
no regression.
