[Bug 1242085] Re: Low write speed to USB disks - do something!
Darek, as per http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5WD2_Premium/#support an update is available for your BIOS (0709). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . [Bug 1256569] [NEW] EMU 0202 volume control not working
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 and I have EMU 0202 USB audio interface. Everything is working correctly except that I can't change the master volume. [Bug 1256567] [NEW] gtk deadlocks in referencer
Public bug reported: To trigger the bug I need to do the following: 1. Open any referencer's menu entry. For example I choose Library->Open. A dialogue window appears. 2. Try to interact with the dialogue window by pressing buttons. Step 2 makes referencer to freeze. Backtrace shows that the program now sits in __lll_lock_wait () which is called by g_mutex_lock (): #0 __lll_lock_wait () at ../nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/lowlevellock.S:135 #1 0x7414b192 in _L_lock_1142 () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 #2 0x7414b110 in __GI___pthread_mutex_lock (mutex=0x777380) at pthread_mutex_lock.c:104 #3 0x754d13a1 in g_mutex_lock () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 #4 0x7649dcba in ?? This conclusion is supported by the fact that deadlocks are absent in referencer 1.1.6 in Debian squeeze. While in my case the bug is reproducible in a rather straightforward manner, it might not be so in general. If the menu is working properly there is another method to trigger the bug. This method inevitably leads to deadlocks for refrencer 1.1.6 in Debian wheezy. I am quite sure this also true for 1.2.1. Steps to reproduce 1. Have a large collection of papers. 2. Create a new library in referencer from this collection. The arxiv plugin must be on. While creating the library, referencer call the arxiv plugin which uses glib to show info boxes. Because of large number of papers large number of treads will be created. This should increase the probability of deadlocks. [Bug 781397] Re: Help opens web browser (Epiphany, Konqueror), Inkscape stays in modal state .
Except for inkscape freezing, this sounds very similar to the popup i'm getting. When clicking on an item in the help menu that opens a webpage, then two popups open in the center of the inkscape window, and the webpage opens in the browser. The first popup says: 'Keys and Mouse Reference' working, please wait... [Cancel] the text between the '' signs refers to what was clicked. The second one says: Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected. (process:9189): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed [OK] If the second popup is moved then one can see that the first one is still open behind it. If one clicks OK on the first popup, then they both go away, and inkscape works fine. [Bug 1256560] [NEW] Menus are almost unreadable, with deceptive highlighting
Public bug reported: I am using Lubuntu 13.10, but for various reasons use several different Gnome apps, including Nautilus and Evince. This bug is for both of the above, and probably for any Gnome app that has menus displayed with a button on the right of the control area (whatever the area is that is just under the window titlebar). The menus that pop up when one of the menu buttons is pressed (View Options and Location Options for Nautilus; I don't know what the two menus are called for Evince, as they seem not to have tooltips) are dark grey/light grey(or possibly white) on a black background, and thus very difficult to read. In fact, unless I increase my monitor's brightness to close to 100%, I cannot tell that the dark grey menu items are there at all. Also, the options that are selectable are the ones in dark grey. The options that are not selectable are in light grey or white. Thus, the only options that you can select, are those that you cannot see... I had two ideas on this: 1) Perhaps somehow Gnome apps are depending on something that is normally there for a full gnome desktop, that is not there if one is just installing certain apps in isolation. This... something... is where Gnome decides on what colors to use in displaying the menus. Without this, some default colors are used that don't work very well. 2) My Lubuntu setup uses the window Theme Bear2 (standard, included with Lubuntu, not downloaded). Perhaps there is some interaction with the particular Theme used... No. I just tried several different themes, and the menus all came up exactly the same. Unless everybody's menus are this way, I am going to assume that 1) is probably closer to being the cause. Remember, this applies to Evince as well (and perhaps many other Gnome apps.) If there is some way to report a bug for "Gnome in general" and not for a particular Gnome app. either move this bug there, or let me know where to do it, and I will. I will attach screenshots showing the problem for each of the two menus for Gnome and also for Evince's two menus. - scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ uname -a Linux scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS 3.11.0-13-generic-tuxonice #20~ppa1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 8 11:40:45 UTC 2013 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1242367] Re: gnome-control-center user-accounts don't load, only hangs
Hi The work around I used was to create a file (as root) /etc/modprobe.d/saa7134.conf In that file I placed the following content: blacklist saa7134 blacklist saa7134_alsa I then rebooted the machine The pro of this is that you do not have to unplug the card, but you may still require a reboot for it to work. I currently don't use the card, so having it disabled permanently is not a big problem for me. I have isolated the kernel configuration differences down to: doug@v32-serv03:~/kernel/linux-3.12.0$ diff config_def config_05 781c781 < CONFIG_X86_SYSFB=y --- > # CONFIG_X86_SYSFB is not set 4869c4869 < CONFIG_FB_BOOT_VESA_SUPPORT=y --- > # CONFIG_FB_BOOT_VESA_SUPPORT is not set 4900c4900 < CONFIG_FB_VESA=y --- > # CONFIG_FB_VESA is not set Where config_def is the default kernel configuration for the current Trusty kernel and config_05 has 3 reversions back to the way they were for Saucy. Each reversion by itself is not enough, they have to both (I lump the two VESA ones into one, because one can not change one without the other) be reverted. Note that the console display does not work when the reversions are done, and hasn't worked for most reversion attempts during this work. I use ssh to access the computer. Anticipated question: Why weren't display display issues mentioned previously? It's kind of an important point? Answer: Video display issues are very common on this computer when I start messing with kernels, so I didn't think it was significant earlier. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254920 Title: CPU utilization / accounting issues To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1254920/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Not much to say: FF crashed (froze, then disappeared). The normal crash window came up, but reported that there was not enough memory to report the bug, so I called ubuntu-bug firefox instead... Perhaps lack of enough memory (2GB) was somehow to blame for the crash. I would not have bothered writing this, as I have nothing useful to say, but I was unsure if the crash would be reported if I did not go through the motions and fill in this bug form. For future reference, if a bug would normally be silently reported in the automatic crash reporting system, but is unable to do so, should I fill anything in here, or not? The notebook (dell inspiron) still detects the available newtorks. If they are protected, then additional data are requested (passwords and the like). So it seems that the wifi card is working well with the current driver (see below for further evidence). However, then the connection times out before getting any IP address. When I switch to Windows, I immediately get the connection (then the wifi network and the notebook's hardware are OK). Sometimes, when I switch back to Ubuntu, the connection starts spontaneously and I can work normally (as if the problem were in the DHCP protocol execution, and the Windows connection "did some work" that Ubuntu currently can't do). [Bug 1248100] Re: Logitech Unified Receiver very laggy
Stephen Rees-Carter, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update is available for your BIOS (1.23). Thank you for your understanding. ** Description changed: Since upgrading to 13.10, my wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse have been very laggy and quite unusable. The mouse barely moves or responds most of the time, and the keyboard either ignores input or gets stuck on a character, or sequence of characters, and repeats them constantly. - - They were both working in 13.04, but since upgrading via a fresh - install, to 13.10, they won't work. - - I found a similar sounding bug - (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1194649) which - sounded promising, but everyone has reported that their issue was fixed, - so I decided it might be better to report a new one since my issue isn't - fixed. I'm fully updated via apt-get with no fixes. - - Let me know what I can do to help debug the issue. + They were both working in 13.04. [Bug 1256540] [NEW] "Ejecting" USB (ex. Camera) doesn't offer to empty Trash
Public bug reported: I have Lubuntu 13.10 (originally 12.04). I added Nautilus, so that I could have it show date/time for photos under the thumbnails, so I can easily group them. [The current version does not have the option of selecting the type of date displayed under the thumbnails in the preferences, so I had to install Nemo, which is based on an earlier version of Nautilus, and still can. I retained Nautilus, for some reason, and the bug is true for both apps. ] When I copy photos from my USB-attached camera, I send them to trash when I am satisfied the copy was successful. When I had regular Ubuntu (various versions prior to 12.04) and clicked on "Eject" or "Safely remove drive", or whatever, I was asked whether or not I wished to empty the trash or not. At some point in Nautilus' development, some things changed. Now, there is only one option: Eject (or the equivilent clicking on the eject icon next to the device name). Now, when I select "Eject" or click on the icon, I am NOT asked if I want to empty the trash. I have repeatedly attached/removed the camera and tried both the context item and icon, but am not asked about the trash. I have to separately "select all" files in the two Trash sub-directories and click shift-del (and confirm that I wish to permanently delete the files). Why is Nautilus not asking me if I want to empty the trash? [Awhile ago, there was some discussion about the USB removal options that used to be present: "Eject", "Safely Remove Drive", and I think there might have also been a third one. I imagine the consensus was that having multiple options for essentially (literally?) the same operation was probably confusing to the user, and therefore the options were reduced to "Eject". Am I correct? The Trash ought to be emptied, in any case...] --- scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 303862] Re: Pidgin freezes when generating new OTR private key
I also experienced the bug (13.10, Pidgin 2.10.7 (libpurple 2.10.7), pidgin-otr 4.0.0-1). After doing some research I think I can conclude that the reason must be that Pidgin tries to get the initialization randomness from /dev/random and stalls until /dev/random delivers sufficient data. For me pidgin unfreezes after typing random data into an arbitrary text field for a few minutes to produce entropy for /dev/random. It would be adviseable to give a hint to the user as to what pidgin is waiting for, and how he can speed up the process (like using mouse/keyboard/whatever devices feed entropy to /dev/random). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303862 Title: Pidgin freezes when generating new OTR private key To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pidgin-otr/+bug/303862/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
