[Bug 1259562] Re: Old guest users pollute accountsservice

2013-12-10 Thread Robert Ancell
Ah, yeah, that's not something lightdm would be allowed to do. I suspect
the correct solution is that accounts service should delete directories
if the user accounts no longer exist on startup or similar.

Re: [Bug 1096307] Re: Boot process hang because 'mountall' fails

And do what instead of prompting? The system blocks on mountall because
it's waiting for the filesystem to become available. You have no console,
and you have a misconfigured /etc/fstab. What are you expecting the system
to do here? Try to bring up sshd when half of the filesystem may still be
missing?

If you deploy an image to the cloud with a wrong /etc/fstab, you get to keep
both pieces.

If you have a specific case where mountall is blocking the boot waiting for
some mount point that it *shouldn't* wait for, you'll need to provide more
specific information.

[Bug 998001] Re: Have to confirm certificate on every connection

2013-12-10 Thread gna
Dont know if that would help, but a small "how to import the self signed
Windows Server CA cert to trusted CA list" would solve this problem.

[Bug 349913] Re: sftp: cannot enter umlauts like ä, ö, ü

2013-12-10 Thread Ken Sharp
Version: 1:5.9p1-5ubuntu1.1

Still present.

Still cannot enter characters but using tab to auto-complete will work
so long as the file does not begin with a "foreign" character:

sftp> get caf\303\251
Fetching /tmp/café to café
sftp> get na\303\257ve
Fetching /tmp/naïve to naïve
sftp> get anasth\303\246sia
Fetching /tmp/anasthæsia to anasthæsia

Sadly entering the "\303\246ether" for "æther" doesn't work.

[Bug 1230359] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad S431 20AX] boots up after shutdown, twice

2013-12-10 Thread ramgorur
Hi, I am also having the same problem, first removed the ~/.Xauthority
file it worked fine for the next two-three shutdowns, then it started
again. Then I added acpi=noirq switch in the kernel parameter and seemed
to be fixed for couple of weeks, then it started again. Moreover, after
acpi=noirq, the bluetooth has stopped working.

[Bug 1259703] [NEW] growpart on disk larger than 2TB fails

2013-12-10 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

For disks larger than 2TB (the amount addressable by MBR), growpart will mess
up partition tables.
It also fails in such a way that it ends up shrinking the partition table, see
below for an example.

In reality, this is probably an sfdisk bug, but I can work around it in
growpart by just knowing the max size.

$ sudo growpart -v --dry-run /dev/sdb 1

[Bug 1237519] Re: Grub2 fails to install to non-standard device path

2013-12-10 Thread Kent Baxley
@Brandon,

I was able to successfully boot into 12.04. The trick, I think, is that
you need two sets of driver disks in order to pull this off.

I tested this on a PowerEdge C8000 series server, which allowed me to
boot trouble-free into an EFI shell to load the Fusion-io.efi module.

The reason is because there are two kernels involved on this daily image
of 12.04. The installer kernel is running 3.8.0-29 while the final
kernel that gets installed is 3.8.0-35. Since the kernel modules are
built for a specific kernel, I'm guessing what happened to you was that
you had 3.8.0-29 drivers but didn't have any for the 3.8.0-35 kernel,
thus, when the OS tried to boot it fell down on you.

Here's what I did:

1) Because of this situation, I had to create kernel modules for both
3.8.0-29 and 3.8.0-35, create packages, and put the respective packages
on my driver disk USB stick.

2) Once those were in place, I booted up with the kernel command line
"anna/choose_modules=driver-injection-disk-detect"

3) I verified both sets of kernel modules were installed. The installer
picked up the fioa device and I could install without trouble..grub
gave me no problems.

4) Once that was done, I rebooted into an EFI shell, loaded the Fusion-
IO module, then booted from grubx64.efi on the FIO device.

5) From the grub prompt I saw an "efidisk write error". This can be
safely ignored and after a few seconds the Operating Sytem booted up
just fine from the fioa disk partitions.

So, 12.04.4's daily builds are indeed good to go from the testing I was
able to do.

I'll send along the packages I used along with the steps I used to boot
this machine up successfully.

[Bug 1259701] [NEW] 14.04 installer does not detect Windows 8.1

2013-12-10 Thread Smot
Public bug reported:

Just tried using 14.04 daily build (10th Dec) on HP Pavilion Touchsmart
11. (Aside note: This is the first build since 12.04 that actually runs
on this PC - previous releases lock up with a black screen or terminal
login prompt that doesn't run anything).

The installer starts, but does not detect that Windows 8.1 is already
installed on the PC.

I was hoping to install 14.04 alongside Windows - I'll scrub Windows
when the full LTS is released, but until then I need to keep it.

I did not proceed with the install as I wasn't confident that I'd mess
up the partitioning and end up without an OS.

[Bug 1259699] [NEW] nvidia drivers don't apply sync to vblank when second monitor is turned on

2013-12-10 Thread amichair
Public bug reported:

I have a desktop with monitor and TV connected to it. In order to
prevent tearing when watching video on the TV, I enable sync to vblank
and select the TV as the display to sync to in the nvidia setting
dialog. However, the next time I turn on the TV the setting is not re-
applied and there is tearing. Interestingly, the solution is simply to
open and close the settings dialog without changing anything - it does
remember these preferences, but they simply don't get applied when the
TV is turned on unless the settings are opened and closed. This gets
annoying... it should automatically apply the settings when the TV is
turned on, just like it does the rest of the settings (e.g. twinview,
geometry, etc.)

Kubuntu 13.10 with KDE 4.11.3, NVidia 9300 with 319-updates (319.60)
drivers and TwinView.

pre-build.sh runs update-from-web.sh which tries to download the latest

not have access to this internal server, but my suspicion is that since
Michael left Canonical, this file is not getting updated. If it were, I
wouldn't expect scan.data to even include xbattle in the first place.

I'm going to subscribe/ping mvo and follow up on the bug. Maybe it's better to
include the scan.data in bzr after all? (It's only ~1MB.)

[Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces

2013-12-10 Thread Pitermann, Michel
People considering Compiz as dead think that nearly two years to see a
hack which is not a real fix for such a terrible bug is not a sign of a
healthy piece of software, specially for an LTS version which is suppose
to be rock solid. Two years of this flickering made Compiz something
very far from the nicest window manager. As long as a real fix is not
provided for the LTS version, Compiz will be considered as a poor window
manager by many.

[Bug 1259696] [NEW] desktop effects + newly attached monitor = both monitors blank

2013-12-10 Thread amichair
Public bug reported:

I have a monitor and a TV connected to my desktop, with the TV usually
off. When desktop effects are enabled and the TV is turned on, both
monitor and TV go blank (black), and only the mouse pointer is visible.
The only way out of this is to disable desktop effects - I had to add a
keyboard shortcut for this, otherwise only a hard reboot would get me
out of this state. I no longer enable desktop effects due to this, and
hope it will be fixed soon.

Note that current development (1.7.x releases, in experimental) have

rdeps to allow lockdev removal for jessie. We also updated to dh9 and

[Bug 1124071] Re: [tabs] Cannot add Tabs programmatically

2013-12-10 Thread Zsombor Egri
Roman, noone questions your experience, what I just said previously was
that "you cannot combine Repeater and function-based added tabs, as you
cannot insert a Tab in between the tabs created by the Repeater, because
any model change of the Repeater will throw out the function-added tab
from that area". Yes, this can be documented and will be, once we decide
to roll back the fix I pushed. I've never said that the Repeater will
give you full support, what I said that for instance for the RSS app
this approach might be good enough - we have StateSaver that could be
used to restore states on Tabs btw...

We are checking other solutions, other API than functions, but most
likely we will roll back to the functions.

And apologies for keeping this bug open for such a long time, we thought
that we managed to close this, but then everything blew up... I'll make
sure we will have a solution ASAP.

[Bug 1239351] Re: Nvidia driver hangs on boot: NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x26:0x38:1170)

2013-12-10 Thread Aivis
Seems like this is very specific problem. Only PCLinuxOS could avoid
this problem in LiveCD mode(install on disk failed too), everything else
just failed. Also tried to modprobe different nvidia drivers from repos
manually.

Today I have swapped motherboard with AMD 690(with onboard integrated
VGA) to NVIDIA nForce 560 chipset and CPU amd athlon x2 4000+ to 5600+,
and the problem was gone.

[Bug 1098697] Re: [HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1006sa] High Battery discharge rate when Laptop is off.

2013-12-10 Thread Dave H
Hello Christopher,
I updated by BIOS some time ago:

dave@ENVY6:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
F.15
01/22/2013

I cannot remember when I updated so not sure it is was before or after
testing for this bug with 13.04.

I hadn't tested for this bug with 13.10 as I was distracted with a AMD
graphics issue and just did the same work around for the this WOL bug as
for 13.04.

Last night (09/12/13) I've performed a fresh install on spare partitions
of Ubuntu 13.10 and updated to the latest package issues and kernel:

dave@ENVY6-2:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10

dave@ENVY6-2:~$ cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 3.11.0-14.21-generic 3.11.7

dave@ENVY6-2:~$ sudo ethtool eth0 | grep Wake-on
[sudo] password for dave:
Supports Wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: d

As you can see its good news with 13.10 the wake-on-lan bug is fixed for
my HP Envy 6. I confirm ethtool (ethtool 1:3.9-1) is now included in
ubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64.manifest. I presume this plus a Kernel update
fixed the issue. Can't be sure if the bios update had any affect.

Kind regards

Dave H

2013-12-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

For what I've seen the hbox "year_box" is empty, thus the get_children()
returns an empty list.
