[Bug 1260616] [NEW] CVE-2013-6432

2013-12-12 Thread John Johansen
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

The ping_recvmsg function in net/ipv4/ping.c in the Linux kernel before
3.12.4 does not properly interact with read system calls on ping
sockets, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (NULL
pointer dereference and system crash) by leveraging unspecified
privileges to execute a crafted application.

Indeed, sorry for that. I disabled autopkgtest for the last upload
again and prepared a branch that redirects stderr to a file (output is
mostly noise) and test the installed files instead of the build file.

One question - whats the best practise here, should the test also
check against the build tree? Or is it better to run the tests against
the build tree during the package build? I guess the later but would
be nice if you could confirm :)

Cheers,
 Michael

[Bug 1260443] Re: no usable lxde desktop after installation

2013-12-12 Thread Lars Noodén
How would I check whether it is the desktop or the display manager? The
background graphic is the same as I would see if the desktop were
running as normal.

[Bug 1260613] [NEW] CVE-2013-2930

2013-12-12 Thread John Johansen
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

The perf_trace_event_perm function in kernel/trace/trace_event_perf.c in
the Linux kernel before 3.12.2 does not properly restrict access to the
perf subsystem, which allows local users to enable function tracing via
a crafted application.

[Bug 1249979] Re: r8169 Ethernet driver doesn't work

2013-12-12 Thread Cocodude
I tested this with v3.13-rc3-trusty but r8169 worked just fine along
with DHCP and I was able to ping the outside world. So, it's some commit
inbetween 3.11.0-14-generic and 3.13-rc3-trusty that's caused the issue.

I don't think I'll have time to do a full bisect but I might be able to
try and narrow it down a little if you could provide some pointers.

[Bug 572074]

2013-12-12 Thread Grgoffe
Chris,

I have a Fedora 19 system here and have used the middle mouse button on
a link in the current tab to make a tab next to the current tab.

Of course, I then have to replace the URL but at least it works...

George...

2013-12-12 Thread John Johansen
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Saucy)

- [net: permissions flaw in /proc/sys/net]

+ allows local users to bypass intended /proc/sys/net restrictions via a

[Bug 1165433] Re: Kernels from 3.8.x to 3.11.x panic on bluetooth DUN disconnect

2013-12-12 Thread eccerr0r
Anyone running into this bug on Ubuntu, please test Linux kernel
3.12-release or newer, if you can compile it (or if there is a package
available...) This kernel should have the BT DUN fixes.

I really cannot say anything in these forums as I am not running Ubuntu
(I have the same bug posted on Gentoo's bugtracker,
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474432 ) but there are not
enough Gentoo users using BT DUN/NetworkManager for me to collaborate
with... My observations is that with the 3.12 vanilla kernel the crash
goes away if I manually set up an rfcomm link and detach it, but
NetworkManager no longer finds BT DUN as a valid dialup device.
Reverting back to 3.5.7 or 3.6.11 restores operation with the same
userspace.

[Bug 1260604] [NEW] GDM does not work with new accountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu5

2013-12-12 Thread Harry
Public bug reported:

Gdm does not work with the latest accountsservice versions 0.6.35-0ubuntu3 -
0.6.35-0ubuntu5.
Actually the X will not start and there is no login screen available, only
black screen.
Login from tty1 is of course possible, but startx will not work.

I have tested this with gnome-shell and gdm with both trusty official versions
and the versions in the Gnome3 Staging PPA (trusty branch).
Also, I have tested this with ATI open source drivers and NVidia proprietary
drivers.
None of these work.

Downgrading back to the version acoountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu2 helps
and desktop is fine again.

[Bug 1137510]

2013-12-12 Thread Alan Coopersmith
Actually, any distro using xfree86.cf is either still using XFree86 and
not these files, or has patched it locally - either case it's a waste
of time to update our copy.

I've gone ahead and pushed this additional patch to git, since no one cares
enough to clean out the crud in the imake config files given how little used
they are these days since the mass migration to autotools.

[Bug 1260602] [NEW] bitcoin should be removed from the archive (and blacklisted)

2013-12-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

As explained in , the bitcoin package is not
supportable in a stable release because it requires arbitrary updates to
keep in sync with the larger bitcoin network. Since prior attempts to
SRU the package failed due to lack of validation
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bitcoin/+bug/1159832), we
should just remove bitcoin and blacklist it.

[Bug 1256811] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T400] linux kernel panic on bluetooth DUN disconnect

2013-12-12 Thread eccerr0r
This will be good to test a new upstream kernel.

I know that Kernel 3.12-release contains the proposed fix to BT DUN,
however its interaction with blueman/networkmanager is broken. Anyone
who has this bug on Ubuntu (or RH/Fedora), please report back, I am
interested to hear any success with it. On my Gentoo system I can no
longer reproduce the crash on my box but BT DUN no longer works properly
with NetworkManager. I may have configured my kernel incorrectly -
that's what I want to rule out...

[Bug 1245930] Re: ufw reset does not clear default chains

2013-12-12 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for the bug report. Per the man page, reset "Disables and resets
firewall to installation defaults". It will therefore not clear out all the
builtins. You may be interested in /lib/ufw/ufw-init. From the ufw-framework
manpage:
BOOT INITIALIZATION
ufw is started on boot with /lib/ufw/ufw-init.
...
flush-all:
flushes the built-in chains, deletes all non-built-in chains
and

[Bug 1260513] Re: [Gateway DX4860] Horizontal scrolling is broken with specific external mouse device

2013-12-12 Thread Val
Christopher,

My USB listing is attached. As you requested, I unplugged all USB
devices first, then plugged in the mouse device (note important details
below) and then executed "lsusb -v", with sudo of course.

Please note that this problem is specific to the mouse, not to Gateway
DX4860. This computer system came with its own two-button mouse which I
immediately replaced with 9-button Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000.
To be precise, this mouse is part of a mouse+keyboard combo. The
accompanying keyboard device is Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard
4000. Both mouse and keyboard are wirelessly connected to the same USB
transceiver. It is the USB transceiver device that I unplugged and then
plugged back before executing "lsusb -v".

I should perhaps note again, just for the record under this bug report,
that the proposed fix in LP: # 926917 worked perfectly for me on LTS
12.04, completely fixing the problem with horizontal scrolling.

[Bug 980925] Re: load avg is near to 1.00 even in case of idle

2013-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
LGB [Gábor Lénárt], as per
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3773#bios an update is
available for your BIOS (F10). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 993245] Re: Hard Disk cycles on and off

2013-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

I just installed Xubuntu 12.04 (i386) (fresh install) on my Toshiba Satellite
Pro L-350 (Canadian).
I noticed that when the laptop is running on the battery alone, the Hard
Drive turns on and off every 30 seconds. This happens continously and doesn't
stop. I can actually hear the click of the hard drive turning on, and it
coincides with a spike in System Monitor for the Hard Drive being "written"
once.
On A/C power the hard drive doesn't turn on and off and it remains ON all the
time. But the 30 second "write" spike in System Monitor still happens.
I just installed Xubuntu and this is observable by me not doing anything to
the computer and just watching the System Monitor and hearing the HDD after
boot.
In Power Management, the option for "Spin down hard disk" is ticked off for
both "On AC" and "On Battery."

Please let me know if more information needs to be provided and the means
through which I can provide it.
  Cheers!

[Bug 1252507] Re: gsd-backlight-helper fails to change backlight

2013-12-12 Thread Mahiar Mody
I've reported the bug upstream as you've suggested. Here's the link:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=720370

Yes, this is similar to the bug ID you've provided, but I'm not sure if
it's the same issue. I'm having the problem on my Desktop (All-in-one
Desktop) machine and not a laptop.

Furthermore, this issue was not present when the very same machine had
Ubuntu 13.04 installed. All worked fine then. Only after upgrading to
Ubuntu 13.10 has this issue arrisen. I upgraded using the ISO, and did a
full re-format and re-encryption of the full disk. So this seems to be
an Ubuntu 13.10 problem, and not an Ubuntu 13.04 problem, as the other
bug states.

[Bug 1256702] Re: Allow a Mir nested server to have a transparent background

2013-12-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oh, I forgot... it's a whole server that needs fading out if we're
nesting.

So new functionality is likely required. But you should try to implement
a single set_alpha() (or set_opacity; see bug 1236224) rather than
concerning yourself and others with the performance issues of an RGBA
pixel format.

[Bug 998624] Re: I cannot mount a particular cd-rom normally

2013-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
crf, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please just make a comment to this.

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Tags added: latest-bios-a14 needs-upstream-testing

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete
