[Bug 1261018] [NEW] Switching displays with hotkeys kills wireless interface

2013-12-14 Thread Raz Ziv
Public bug reported:

On my Acer Aspire One D150, when I switch to external display using
hotjeys (Fn F5), the displays switch OK, but the wireless interface is
gone to the effect that the wlan0 interface is not shown in lshw output.

$ acpi_listen

The keymap for acer seems to be correct (mapped to switchvideomode).

Following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting I report this under
gnome-settings-daemon. Not sure if this is correct, though. Also, I'm a
bit reluctant to upgrade my BIOS, but will, if the team thinks it is

[Bug 1260990] Re: boinc-manager needs /var/lib/boinc-client to launch

2013-12-14 Thread MestreLion
Manually creating a /var/lib/boinc-client dir solves the bug, but if
this is done by the package itself at install I wonder if apt will see
this as a conflict with the boinc-client package, since both would
create (and thus own, apt-wise) the same dir.

Also, in boinc-client this dir is owned by a boinc:boinc user and
group, so boinc-manager would probably have to mimic that too, which may
lead to more conflicts.

Does anyone know how apt deals with packages that creates the same
users, groups and dirs? A clumsy solution would be to create a boinc-
common base package that creates this infrastructure, and set both
boinc-client and boinc-manager to depend on that.

Another completely different approach, and perhaps a better solution: if
the problem is only the .desktop file that contains a Path= entry
pointing to an nonexisting dir, what if instead of a Path= entry we use
boincmgr --datadir /var/lib/boinc-client in the Exec= entry? Gnome/Unity
would not complain anymore, but would boincmgr complain if we use a
nonexisting dir as datadir? Would it (a) bork (b) create the dir or (c)
work just fine ? If (c), then problem solved. (b) is fine, as long as it
doesn't conflict if/when boinc-client is installed later (will it change
the ownership to boinc:boinc?). But, if (a), we have a problem :P

[Bug 876711] Re: Screen brightness resets to minimized when screen turns off

2013-12-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bobik-s, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

I finally got Ubuntu installed on my Mac Mini by using the vanilla ISO
(i.e. not the one with the suffix -Mac). Everything is running as
expected in the latest version, and I haven't seen this bug reappear,
although I also haven't reinstalled Ubuntu from scratch on this machine.

 Title:
   Brightness reset on sleep

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop circa ~2006. I don't know what
hardware specifics are necessary, but if you have questions please
   ask.

If I do not use my laptop for a period of time the computer goes to
sleep and locks my screen. When I go to log back in from the screen
lock, the brightness has been reset to the minimum setting, so I
always have to go and reset it. This happens even when the laptop is
   plugged into power. Please fix.

   Thanks.

any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal

and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:

[Bug 839403] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 is unable to handle long file names

2013-12-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
K. A. Sayeed, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

2013-12-14 Thread Thomas Sisson
It appears that you are trying to install Gnome shell extensions from
Ubuntu Oneirc sources. Although you can usually install packages built
for prior versions, Gnome has changed and the shell extension are not
compatible with the new Gnome.

The new equivalent of Gnome shell extensions is available at
extensions.gnome.org. You must visit the website in your browser while
running Gnome. You may be prompted to install in extension in Firefox.
It may also work in the Google browsers Chrome or Chromium, but I know
it works with Firefox.

If I am correct, this is not a bug. Please change it to a question if it
is. If my answer is correct, please mark it as answered. Feel free to
edit it as appropriate. Following my logic the question should be
changed from the error message with Portuguese to: I cannot, or How
can I, or Why can't I ... gnome-shell-extensions in Ubuntu
anymore.[?]

2013-12-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kristian Erik Hermansen, this bug was reported a while ago and there
hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is
still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please just make a comment to this.

[Bug 1260473] [NEW] The slide bar that allow to rezise the partition does not appear

2013-12-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When installing UbuntuGNOME (Desktop i386, 20131212) alongside another
OS(in this case I've used Debian GNU/Linux 7.2) on a VM, the test fails
on the step 8.

I was trying to make a dual boot

The expected result was that the bar should appear allowing to set the
size of the partiotion by moving it.

The slide bar is not shown. In order to test it, just follow the
install(auto-resize) testcase in a machine that already has an OS.

[Bug 1252484] Re: Possible data loss when restarting in the middle of a deleted file

2013-12-14 Thread Lennart Jütte
I believe i'm still experiencing the problems.

I have a set of backups from a machine which started with Ubuntu 12.04
and was upgraded a few weeks ago to 13.10. The backups were created via
deja-dup. I'm trying to restore on a Machine Running Linux Mint (
~Ubuntu 13.10) with duplicity 0.6.21-0ubuntu4.1.

Here's what i get when i try to restore my backup manually (duplicity, not
deja-dup):
python: ERROR: (rs_file_copy_cb) unexpected eof on fd122

deja-dup detects that there's a problem and bails out. If i try to restore via
duplicity, i get this message and the application hangs.
A ps -ef ef shows that there's the duplicity process, which deja-dup started,
is still lingering around. My current process is idling.

Did i miss something?

[Bug 1228450] Re: Error messages in Syslog

2013-12-14 Thread Gérard Vidal
DSDT problem ?

Hi,
I am experiencing the same bug with a Debian and a colleague has the same bug
also with the same HP8570w computer with a debian 12.04 (LTS).
I have noticed that the output of *lspci* displays only 1 VGA meanwhile I have
an HD4000 chipset with my processor.

I should have needed (and was prepared ) to install bumblebee and primus on
such a computer but the INTEL graphics did not show up !
I have tried to look into the DSDT but I lack skills to trace the problem, from
what I have read in yhe Hackintosh community problems with HD4000 are common
but I have not been able to understand how to modify DSDT to get HD4000 visible
and at work...

[Bug 1260957] Re: Libreoffice Impress crashes when inserting an image

2013-12-14 Thread danitxu
Thanks a lot for your indications, Christopher, I'm not accostumed to
report bugs, and your instructions have been useful for me.

I've installed all the packages you've told me, reproduced the crash, found the
15 Mb file in /var/crash and (I think) sent the report.
Just some questions:
* Is there any way to assure I've sent the report ok? as I wasn't sure of it, I
think I've sent it twice. Anyway, for if not, I've saved the crash file in
order to be sent again if neccessary
* As I've not been sent to a new bug web page in ubuntu launchpad, do I have to
open another bug, mark the previous one as anything, or..?

  Thank you :)

[Bug 798250] Re: An aspire 5736z-4076 was uncleanly shutdown, and upon startup, there was an oops with this kernel before fsck of /

2013-12-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
lordan lordanov, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1256540] Re: Ejecting USB (ex. Camera) doesn't offer to empty Trash

2013-12-14 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
I searched for and found a bug that matches this:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603390

However, not counting my just-entered comment, the last activity on the
bug was 2010-09-02, so I do not know if they are paying any attention to
it or not...

The bug has certainly not been fixed between then and now...

Other than entering my comment there, should I be doing anything there
to bring the bug to their attention?

I do not wish to modify my 13.10 installation of the HDD.

If I liveCD boot the current daily image of 14.04, then ubuntu-bug

[Bug 773484] Re: Logs are filling up with one error message

2013-12-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Frank McCormick, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1046563] Re: update-manager never appears on lubuntu precise

2013-12-14 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
I since changed both categories of updates (security and other) to
Display Immediately, and from then (2013-11-24) until now 2013-12-14
Update Manager has never popped up to offer to inform me of updates to
install.

Question: If in the Software Updates window (either directly from
Lubuntu's Preferences menu or from Synaptic), Automatically check for updates
is set to Daily, when, exactly, does it check?
Upon booting? Then it should have checked many times from then until now...
Were it set to check at 11:59:59 pm, then it would never check, as I am not up
at midnight.

[Here's a weird thing... I just brought up Synaptic, and while the Preferences
Software Updates window shows Display Immediately for both categories of
updates (security and other), Synaptic had Display Weekly for Other. I
assumed that both places accessed the same program and data - this implies that
there are two places that the information is being stored. Probably not a good
idea.
This does NOT explain my problem, however, as it has been several weeks since I
updated, and still nothing reported from UpdateManager.]

I have noticed that this is ultimately a Gnome app, so I will look and
see if there is a bug there for this, and add to that, or enter a new
one...

[Bug 998367] Re: fingerprint login can't access encrypted home user account

2013-12-14 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
This problem still exists in 13.10.

I have an encrypted home folder.
When I installed the fprint system, it asked me which authentications to tie to
fingerprint, and it included ecrypt.
However, when I log in, with or without typing password, at the login screen,
it dumps me into a nonresponsive black screen.

This is not a friendly outcome.

If I log in through tty, I am told of the problem and told to try running
ecryptfs-mount-private

which takes my normal password and then mounts my home folder. After
that, if I kill the gnome-session I can subsequently log in.

In fact, the above sounds like a better workaround than having an
external USB? Log in first using tty, do the above sequence, and then
return to the GUI login screen.
