[Bug 886547] Re: 1002:718a [SONY VGN-CR35G_L] garbled text when booting without splash screen
Bertran, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Bug 1260990] Re: boinc-manager needs /var/lib/boinc-client to launch
Manually creating a /var/lib/boinc-client dir solves the bug, but if this is done by the package itself at install I wonder if apt will see this as a conflict with the boinc-client package, since both would create (and thus own, apt-wise) the same dir. Also, in boinc-client this dir is owned by a boinc:boinc user and group, so boinc-manager would probably have to mimic that too, which may lead to more conflicts. Does anyone know how apt deals with packages that creates the same users, groups and dirs? A clumsy solution would be to create a boinc- common base package that creates this infrastructure, and set both boinc-client and boinc-manager to depend on that. Another completely different approach, and perhaps a better solution: if the problem is only the .desktop file that contains a Path= entry pointing to an nonexisting dir, what if instead of a Path= entry we use boincmgr --datadir /var/lib/boinc-client in the Exec= entry? Gnome/Unity would not complain anymore, but would boincmgr complain if we use a nonexisting dir as datadir? Would it (a) bork (b) create the dir or (c) work just fine ? If (c), then problem solved. (b) is fine, as long as it doesn't conflict if/when boinc-client is installed later (will it change the ownership to boinc:boinc?). But, if (a), we have a problem :P -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1260990 Title: boinc-manager needs /var/lib/boinc-client to launch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+bug/1260990/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 836133] Re: wifi regulatory domain is set to US while I live in Italy
Nicolò Chieffo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . Please let us know your results. It appears that you are trying to install Gnome shell extensions from Ubuntu Oneirc sources. Although you can usually install packages built for prior versions, Gnome has changed and the shell extension are not compatible with the new Gnome. The new equivalent of Gnome shell extensions is available at extensions.gnome.org. You must visit the website in your browser while running Gnome. You may be prompted to install in extension in Firefox. It may also work in the Google browsers Chrome or Chromium, but I know it works with Firefox. If I am correct, this is not a bug. Please change it to a question if it is. If my answer is correct, please mark it as answered. Feel free to edit it as appropriate. Following my logic the question should be changed from the error message with Portuguese to: I cannot, or How can I, or Why can't I ... gnome-shell-extensions in Ubuntu anymore.[?] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1182970 Title: package gnome-shell-extensions (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: a tentar sobre-escrever '/usr/share/locale/zh_CN/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-shell-extensions.mo', que também está no pacote gnome-shell-extensions-common 3.2.0-0ubuntu1~oneiric1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extensions/+bug/1182970/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1252484] Re: Possible data loss when restarting in the middle of a deleted file
I believe i'm still experiencing the problems. I have a set of backups from a machine which started with Ubuntu 12.04 and was upgraded a few weeks ago to 13.10. The backups were created via deja-dup. I'm trying to restore on a Machine Running Linux Mint ( ~Ubuntu 13.10) with duplicity 0.6.21-0ubuntu4.1. Here's what i get when i try to restore my backup manually (duplicity, not deja-dup): python: ERROR: (rs_file_copy_cb) unexpected eof on fd122 python: ERROR: (rs_job_complete) patch job failed: unexpected end of input Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/bin/duplicity, line 1414, in module with_tempdir(main) File /usr/bin/duplicity, line 1407, in with_tempdir fn() File /usr/bin/duplicity, line 1341, in main restore(col_stats) File /usr/bin/duplicity, line 635, in restore restore_get_patched_rop_iter(col_stats)): File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/patchdir.py, line 526, in Write_ROPaths for ropath in rop_iter: File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/patchdir.py, line 499, in integrate_patch_iters final_ropath = patch_seq2ropath( normalize_ps( patch_seq ) ) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/patchdir.py, line 479, in patch_seq2ropath misc.copyfileobj( current_file, tempfp ) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/misc.py, line 166, in copyfileobj buf = infp.read(blocksize) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/librsync.py, line 80, in read self._add_to_outbuf_once() File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/librsync.py, line 94, in _add_to_outbuf_once raise librsyncError(str(e)) librsyncError: librsync error 103 while in patch cycle deja-dup detects that there's a problem and bails out. Thanks a lot for your indications, Christopher, I'm not accostumed to report bugs, and your instructions have been useful for me. I've installed all the packages you've told me, reproduced the crash, found the 15 Mb file in /var/crash and (I think) sent the report. Just some questions: * Is there any way to assure I've sent the report ok? as I wasn't sure of it, I think I've sent it twice. Anyway, for if not, I've saved the crash file in order to be sent again if neccessary * As I've not been sent to a new bug web page in ubuntu launchpad, do I have to open another bug, mark the previous one as anything, or..? [Bug 1046563] Re: update-manager never appears on lubuntu precise
I since changed both categories of updates (security and other) to Display Immediately, and from then (2013-11-24) until now 2013-12-14 Update Manager has never popped up to offer to inform me of updates to install. Question: If in the Software Updates window (either directly from Lubuntu's Preferences menu or from Synaptic), Automatically check for updates is set to Daily, when, exactly, does it check? Upon booting? Then it should have checked many times from then until now... Were it set to check at 11:59:59 pm, then it would never check, as I am not up at midnight. [Here's a weird thing... I just brought up Synaptic, and while the Preferences Software Updates window shows Display Immediately for both categories of updates (security and other), Synaptic had Display Weekly for Other. I assumed that both places accessed the same program and data - this implies that there are two places that the information is being stored. Probably not a good idea. This does NOT explain my problem, however, as it has been several weeks since I updated, and still nothing reported from UpdateManager.] I have noticed that this is ultimately a Gnome app, so I will look and see if there is a bug there for this, and add to that, or enter a new one... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1046563 Title: update-manager never appears on lubuntu precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1046563/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 998367] Re: fingerprint login can't access encrypted home user account
This problem still exists in 13.10. I have an encrypted home folder. When I installed the fprint system, it asked me which authentications to tie to fingerprint, and it included ecrypt. However, when I log in, with or without typing password, at the login screen, it dumps me into a nonresponsive black screen. This is not a friendly outcome. If I log in through tty, I am told of the problem and told to try running ecryptfs-mount-private which takes my normal password and then mounts my home folder. After that, if I kill the gnome-session I can subsequently log in. In fact, the above sounds like a better workaround than having an external USB? Log in first using tty, do the above sequence, and then return to the GUI login screen. ** Summary changed: - fingerprint login in ubuntu 12.04 can't access encrypted home user account + fingerprint login can't access encrypted home user account -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998367 Title: fingerprint login can't access encrypted home user account To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fingerprint-gui/+bug/998367/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
