Claire Smith, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade &&
sudo apt-get -y install xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg &&
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and it does nothing, you may be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
gksudo gedit /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

Please follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash
when you file this crash report so the necessary information is
provided.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 986716] Re: Orca doesn't read the ubiquity promotional slides

2014-01-04 Thread Rob Whyte
Users would be comforted knowing that there is still progress, also the
messages about copying files to target system and installing grub is
essential to be spoken. Some install times vary depending on hardware
and internet speed, it is hard to advise a user when the information
should be exposed to Orca in the first place.

[Bug 1210949] Re: A constant detection of unknow error

2014-01-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Maurillo Pires Oliveira Faria, this bug was reported a while ago and
there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this
is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

[Bug 1266153] [NEW] Apple Wireless Trackpad causes kernel (3.12.x/3.13.rcx) crash

2014-01-04 Thread Baif
Public bug reported:

Apple Trackpad indeed crashes kernel 3.12.0-031200-generic on SAUCY.
But 3.11.0-12/3.11.0-14 seem to be good.

I have tried TRUSTY alpha1, either 3.12.0-6/3.12.0-7, both of them
crashes with trackpad.

AND, I also test Apple MagicMouse, none of mentioned kernel crashes with
it...

The following threads have resolution for SAUCY with 3.11 kernels, BUT
no for SAUTY with 3.12 nor TRUSTY with 3.12 (Haven't tried 3.13-rcx)

Apple Trackpad indeed crashes kernel 3.12.0-031200-generic on SAUCY (and TRUSTY
with 3.12). But 3.11.0-12/3.11.0-14 seem to be good.

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1193238] Re: Xorg freeze

2014-01-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hồng Quân, thank you for your comment. As per your
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/143006594/BootDmesg.txt :
[0.167241] mtrr: your CPUs had inconsistent variable MTRR settings
[0.167243] mtrr: probably your BIOS does not setup all CPUs.
...
[0.176148] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored

As well, as per https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K43E/#support an
update is available for your BIOS (219). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

2014-01-04 Thread Maarten Baert
The tests I did confirmed what I suspected:

* kernel 3.13 is affected (if aesni_intel is loaded)
* kernel 3.11 is affected (if aesni_intel is loaded)
* kernel 3.10 is affected (if aesni_intel is loaded)
* kernel 3.9 is NOT affected (ecryptfs doesn't use aesni_intel so it doesn't
matter whether it's loaded)

I found that using Ubuntu 13.10 fixes all the issues with the Cedarview
chip. 13.10 seems to have full support for the chipset.

2014-01-04 Thread Maarten Baert
I can do it if you really want, but I think I already know the result.
According to this:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTM2OTg
... ecryptfs AES-NI support was only added in kernel 3.10. Both quantal and
raring use older kernels, so they will not load the aesni_intel module and
won't be affected, just like 12.04.

I will try to install some older kernels on saucy, I should be able to
find out if the issue started with kernel 3.10 or later.

As well, as per http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K55A/#support an
update is available for your BIOS (407). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see

[Bug 1265406] Re: X server regression on VMware Fusion with OpenGL 2.1 enabled

2014-01-04 Thread Barry Warsaw
By the process of elimination, I've determined that the bug is in binary
package libxatracker2 (source package mesa). If I apt-mark hold that
binary package and dist-upgrade everything else, all is good. If I then
upgrade that package, I end up with broken OpenGL support.

Bad version: 10.0.1-1ubuntu2

[Bug 1093541] Re: [Asus P8Z77-V LK] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed

2014-01-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
DrJohn, thank you for your comment. Like many messages in the logs with
the word "error", it's not end-user error in that if you see it, it's
cause for concern. If you would like to know more about kernel messages
in the logs, this would be the wrong venue for this, as this is a
development platform for software bugs, not a forum. You are welcome to
redirect your inquiry to the appropriate upstream kernel mailing list
via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-lists.html .

Please feel free to report any future bugs you may find.

[Bug 1132681] Re: U 12.10 LiveCD installer crashing during boot loader configuration on NVMe storage( QEMU + NVMe +OVMF )

2014-01-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I'd be interested to see how you configure/boot qemu (the arguments
passed) to produce an NVMe device.

I've just uploaded patches which should enable correct installation onto
NVMe devices, but I haven't been able to verify that fully yet.

Can you try images from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ?
And/or also say how to configure NVMe device launched with qemu/ovmf?

I did a scorched-earth reinstall in May, then moved to new hardware in
November. Whatever the problem was, I'm not having it now, so you can
close it.

[Bug 1266142] [NEW] avahi-daemon do not autostart on boot

2014-01-04 Thread Espen Arnesen
Public bug reported:

I setup a "Time Capsule" following this guide:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2105755
All got up and running and seemed fine until i rebooted my 14.04 server, and
Time Machine could not connect to server any more.
To get it back up and running again i have to ssh to server and issue "sudo
services avahi-daemon restart" to get it back up and running. This gives me the
output:
>espen77@athena:~$ sudo service avahi-daemon restart

>no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4831, leaking memory

[Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration

2014-01-04 Thread Alexis Wilke
I had that problem on one of my computers where I installed the CUDA
development system. The CUDA installs its own libraries and the
libvdpau_nvidia.so library was not getting used!

I used the following command to remove the "offensive" vdpau library:

   sudo rm /usr/lib/libvdpau.so /usr/lib/libvdpau.so.1
/usr/lib/libvdpau.so.304.54 /usr/lib/libvdpau_trace.so

Then I restarted my browser and it worked like a charm.

You should have another library named:

   /usr/lib/libvdpau_nvidia.so

If not, then you probably will have problems...

FYI, I had CUDA installed with:

cuda_5.0.35_linux_64_ubuntu11.10-1.run

When running 12.04 and it worked fine. When I upgraded to 13.04 I
decided to remove CUDA for the time being and still had that color
problem.

I found the solution (a mention of that library) from this Adobe bug
report:

https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3109467

[Bug 1242394] Re: iBus package broken in Ubuntu 13.10

2014-01-04 Thread Matthew Holtz
I just upgraded to 13.10 and have the same problem. Come on, guys. You
can't break important stuff like this. One of the reasons I use Ubuntu
is that it has, at least up to now, had excellent foreign language
support. Please at least fix this for the LTS release in April.

[Bug 1172593] Re: [Dual monitor] One monitor very dim after 13.04 upgrade

2014-01-04 Thread Raymond Wan
Dear Christopher,

Thank you for the reminder! Unfortunately, I am unable to replicate the
test anymore because recently, I've made physical hardware changes to
the system. I also went ahead and upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 soon after
it was released.

I'm afraid you will need to close this bug unless someone else also
experiences this problem. Thank you for bringing it up!

Ray

[Bug 921636] Re: intel GM965 (X3100) no TV-Out (S-Video)

2014-01-04 Thread Arugula
My patch would break tvout support for other cards so I won`t submit it
as a patch. I can say I found the problem and have locally fixed it. In
the kernel code there is "kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_tv.c" that
has a function called "intel_tv_init( struct drm_device *dev)" at the
line +-1550. In there the driver checks for tv outyness. If you look at
the function, there are many points at which the init can fail. My asus
A51e failed in the checking vbts section. through the miracle of slash
slash based optimisation, I removed that check and now I have tvout
working on the laptop with 3.2.x I will check if it works with 3.11+.

You need to get the kernel code from git and then apply a patch.

remember:
git checkout
apply the fix
copy a .config from your /boot dir to your src dir
make -j #cpus +1
make -j #cpus +1 modules
make -j #cpus +1 modules_install
make -j #cpus +1 deb_pkg
cd ..
dpkg -i linux*.deb
enjoy.

I will cross post this on a few bugs to get some negative karma. :)

[Bug 1079969] Re: cedarview-drm 20120717-0ubuntu1: cedarview-drm kernel module failed to build [/boot/config-3.2.x-generic-pae: No such file or directory]

2014-01-04 Thread Gilberto Rocha
I just get this error when I run updates, but I don't really know what it
means.
Apart from that it's been running normal, I think.
I was able to fix other bugs before through Launchpad.

Still a problem with Saucy. If I use the xrandr workaround, the display
is not positioned correctly on the screen...off to the left
