[Bug 1266369] [NEW] Network Manager OpenVPN won't allow the selection of a cipher

2014-01-05 Thread Peter Nunn
Public bug reported:

The configuration of an openvpn connection will not allow the selection
of a cipher.

The cipher box under security just hold a greyed out "Obtaining
available ciphers"

When I try adding cipher=AES-128-CBC manually to the config, I get an
error complaining about the number of arguments being too big. I get
the same error when trying to import the working command line config
file.

Peter.

[Bug 1266195] Re: grub-installer fails to install when using btrfs

2014-01-05 Thread Chris Samuel
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1059827 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1059827

Remember I still have the Dell created first partition, then the first
Linux extended partition starts at 41.9MB (parted doesn't appear to have
options to output in sectors I'm afraid).

Using fdisk it appears the Dell partition (type de) starts at sector 63
and my extended partition starts at 81918 and my first Linux partition
starts at 81920.

Note that this is after I got a working install by creating an ext4
/boot partition (which is the partition that starts at 81920).

It is a test machine though, so I could blow it away and test a new
install if necessary.

I tried to build from the source in your ppa. However I needed to ask
for Qt4 explicitly in order to succeed, see attached patch.

Switching channels works charmingly in all directions with this version!

2014-01-05 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
The file in question (microcode_amd_fam16h.bin) does not exist at the
time of this post. AMD has not released any microcode patch file for
that CPU family. http://www.amd64.org/microcode.html

The amd64-microcode package (not linux-firmware) would contain this file
if it existed.

As far as what's spitting out the false alarm error message, that would
be the microcode patching feature of the kernel. As of kernel 3.13, the
error message has been changed to a debug message so users won't have to
see it:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/11f918d3e2d3861b6931e97b3aa778e4984935aa

The 3.13 kernel should be landing in Ubuntu 14.04/ Trusty by February 1,
2014, and there are 3.13.x release candidates currently available here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

[Bug 1266361] [NEW] BOINC produces about 70% of INVALID results

2014-01-05 Thread Volodya
Public bug reported:

I have gotten myself a new machine (Asus N76V) and now quite a few SETI
bundles get "completed" about 10 times faster than the reported time
(reported time is from 40 to 90 minutes and the real time spent is from
5 to 8 usually... but sometimes as little as 30 seconds).

When i check my results at SETI project i see that i now have a huge
number of invalid results.

[Bug 986064] Re: FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found, configuration already contains alias directive 12.04

2014-01-05 Thread aeromojito
I used the packages in the repos.

ndisgtk (0.8.5-1)
ndiswrapper-common (1.57-1ubuntu1)
ndiswrapper-dkms (1.57-1ubuntu1)
ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 (1.57-1ubuntu1)

The problem seems to be that ndiswrapper-dkms does not install as a
dependency. After installing ndiswrapper-dkms, I was able to use the
rt2500.inf driver from WindowsXP. As a note, I was not able to use the
rt2500pci kernel driver after installing and uninstalling ndiswrapper,
even after un-blacklisting it. The wireless adapter would connect for
about 2 minutes and then lose the ability to connect to any networks.

[Bug 1265722] Re: ppc64el: 14.04 alpha 1 build has call traces -- ERROR: Bad of_node_put() on /pci@800000020000000

2014-01-05 Thread Pavaman Subramaniyam
I have done apt-get update and also did apt-get install linux* to install the
latest kernel and other packages onto my Ubuntu guest.
Then rebooted the guest image after the installed packages.

root@ubuntu:~# dpkg --list | grep linux-image
ii linux-image-3.13.0-0-generic3.13.0-0.13
ppc64el Linux kernel image for version 3.13.0 on PowerPC 64el SMP

ppc64el Linux kernel extra modules for version 3.13.0 on PowerPC 64el SMP
ii linux-image-generic 3.13.0.0.2
 ppc64el Generic Linux kernel image
ii linux-image-virtual 3.13.0.0.2
ppc64el This package will always depend on the latest minimal generic
kernel image.

Please let me know the path from where the linux kernel latest image can
be updated from and install the latest kernel image for ppc64el
platform.

My current repo is: http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/pool/main/l/

Let me know whether I can get the latest kernel from this above link.

[Bug 1248211] Re: After upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 no auto mount, unable to shutdown/reboot from menu, empty network list, etc ...

2014-01-05 Thread Jeff Balderson
This affects me too in exactly the same way.

Based on my digging, there are more than a few people experiencing this
particular combination of issues after the 13.10 upgrade (NM issues,
User Account management "unlock" is greyed out, drive
mounting/unmounting issues, shutdown/reboot issues).

I've seen it suggested this may actually be a policykit issue, since
these are all things that require elevated permissions and only occurs
in the GUI. This particular system I'm on may have been upgraded more
than once, but I'm not sure since I don't recall whether I did a clean
install of 13.04 or upgraded from 12.10 (and more). So, it may be
something that doesn't present unless you've gone through multiple
chained upgrades.

Unfortunately, the laptop with the ATI card in it is now broken and I
currently don't have access to the Dell monitor. Sorry, I won't be able to

kradioripper is apparently in a unusable state based on bug reports on

[Bug 1249765] Re: 8086:4222 [Acer Aspire 5670] iwl3945 resets wireless connection frequently

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vish, thank you for your comments. Regarding them:
1) I would file a new report about that and provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot .

2) Good to know it works in WinXP. Regarding .inf files, I just did a *.inf
search (in Vista) and it would appear many are found in:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

3) It would appear you may have not fully uninstalled, and reversed the
previous steps you took when you were attempting an ndiswrapper
configuration.

Testing ndiswrapper is requested largely to see if one would have a
conceivable WORKAROUND and check for hardware error. Given you can't
(easily) get it to work, and you tested WinXP, that would be sufficient
for that part of things (although you may want to file a bug report
against ndiswrapper if you tested it with the WinXP driver and it didn't
work).

[Bug 1265093] Re: Update GnuCash to latest stable ( version 2.6.x )

2014-01-05 Thread Ken Phillis Jr
I do not know what all of the bug fixes and improvements... However some
of the fixes are extremely important...

* Licence Changed from GPLv2 to GPLv2+. ( This means GNUcash can link directly
to GPLv3 programs )
* Gnucash is no longer subject to the "2038" bug, so that 30-year mortgages
can now be entered correctly.
* Gnucash now works with Guile-2.0.
* Test for overflow limits in gnc_numeric_add.
* Bug 644044 - Lots: SQL backend loses link to Gain/Loss Txn
* Fix bug 653594 related to check printing. This bug has two parts. The
original bug was that the wrong split is sometimes used to print the check. In
the comments a second problem was mentioned: sometimes the wrong split is
omitted from the split list in formats that print all the splits.
* Bug 674862 - 2038 bug in libdbi. ( This effected 30 year morgages )
* Bug 682280 - bill/invoice importer fails to save imported bills/invoice
* Bug 684670 - Interest amount calculation is wrong in Sqlite3 format
* Bug 700197 - Critical SQL backend errors when creating customers via python
bindings
* Bug 704506 - Connection loss to mysql after resume from hibernation
* Bug 704183 - ofx file import tries to match online_id against
ACCTID[space]ACCTKEY even when ACCTKEY is empty

[Bug 625760] Re: When switching between logged in users, system hangs on black screen

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Jonker, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been

[Bug 1249765] Re: 8086:4222 [Acer Aspire 5670] iwl3945 resets wireless connection frequently

2014-01-05 Thread Vish
hi Christopher,
I've tried following the wiki instructions for using ndiswrapper , from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper
but I'm not sure if I'm loading the driver correctly. when i run
sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
I dont seem to have the driver working. I'm not sure if the driver even loads.
so I tried rebooting.

1)
With the latest driver from Acer website for my laptop, the system does not
reboot into Ubuntu if the driver is loaded. i have to boot into a different
kernel , remove the driver and only then can i boot ubuntu into that particular
kernel.

2)
The wireless connection works without problems when I boot into windows xp. So
i figured that this would be the best driver to use.
I tried finding the driver from the windows Xp boot, but I was only able to
find the .sys file and .dll, but could not find the .inf file in the windows
partition.
any ideas as to where i could find the .inf file?

3)
Now the system does not load iwl3945 module every time i boot up the laptop.i
manually have to run $ sudo modprobe iwl3945 each time. I tried commenting out
the blacklist of the iwl3945 module & also removing the blacklist which i had
to do during the ndiswrapper instructions, but that did not help.
How do I make sure that the iwl3945 module loads automatically?

If you kill everything then the plymouth screen will go away, NFS rootmay
fail, etc. There are other reasons it works the way it does. What is
needed is a better mechanism to notify the user of what is going on and
help them deal with it, and to also report those situations as bugs so
we can deal with them.

I'm also not sure why you are marking this as "incomplete" when it has
already been confirmed along with pertinent logs. Random housecleaning?

[Bug 605041] Re: High usage of the cpu - up to 100%

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Wojciech Ryrych, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

[Bug 1244950] Re: Display via AVR not detected after restart of AVR

2014-01-05 Thread Xenophon
This bug still exists along with other issues related to AVRs connected
to Ubuntu. I'm afraid that I don't want to risk breakage by using a
developmental release. I'll be happy to test matters when a new stable
comes out.

That said, has there been anything added/modified in the developmental
release that might suggest that this issue is resolved?

[Bug 924278] Re: xscreensaver doesn't enable DPMS

2014-01-05 Thread Sworddragon
I have now tested this with Ubuntu 14.04 dev and xscreensaver
5.15-3ubuntu1 but it is still not working. xset -q is still always
showing "DPMS is Disabled" no matter how often I'm dis- and enabling it
in xscreensaver but other values like the standby-, suspend- and off-
time are successfully changed on xset -q if I'm changing them with
xscreensaver. I'm on LXDE with LXDM as login manager if this should be
related to this problem.

[Bug 599589] Re: LTspice IV & Qucs restart X server

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Thomas O., this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

[Bug 924278] Re: xscreensaver doesn't enable DPMS

2014-01-05 Thread Sworddragon
I have now tested this with Ubuntu 14.04 dev and xscreensaver
5.15-3ubuntu1 but it is still not working. I'm also noticing that xset
-q is always showing "DPMS is Disabled" no matter how often I'm dis- and
enabling it in xscreensaver. But other values like the standby-,
suspend- and off-time are successfully changed on xset -q if I'm
changing them with xscreensaver.

It seems there is currently somewhere an issue that prevents
xscreensaver from setting DPMS to enabled or maybe just disables it
instantly. I'm on LXDE with LXDM as login manager if this should be
related to this problem.

[Bug 1266348] [NEW] imacros command line breaks debugging information

2014-01-05 Thread pixel
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Currently, the gcc ubuntu package has a bug that comes from upstream:

http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=57653

The effect of the bug is if one compiles a file with the option -imacros,
the filename and all useful debugging information disappears. Here is a
simple example of that:

imacros-test$ cat somefile.c
#warning some warning
imacros-test$ cat macros.h
#define SOME_MACRO
imacros-test$ gcc -c somefile.c
somefile.c:1:2: warning: #warning some warning [-Wcpp]
 #warning some warning
  ^
imacros-test$ gcc -c somefile.c -imacros macros.h
:1:2: warning: #warning some warning [-Wcpp]

This also affects the debugging information embedded within the files,
rendering debugging pretty useless.

While I am aware this is a bug from upstream, it's been sitting there
for a while with a simple patch. It'd be nice to apply that patch on the
ubuntu package in the meantime.

  Thanks!

[Bug 595022] Re: noveau driver segfaults and kills X session

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Amit Kucheria, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.
