Fixed upstream, thanks Eric! Marking as affecting Ubuntu, as even
trusty's qemu does not have that fix yet. For the record, lp:platform-

will reproduce this qemu problem (and verify its fix).

[Bug 1042388] Re: qemu: Unsupported syscall: 257 (timer_create)

2014-01-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Unfortunately it is still not working with these two patches. The
Unsupported syscall: 257 is gone, but now it fails on EINVAL. I attach
a little test C file which uses a timer. It works fine on x86 and a
real arm machine, but under QEMU I get:

$ gcc -o timer_test -Wall  timer_test.c  -lrt
$ ./timer_test
Failed to create timer: Invalid argument
qemu: uncaught target signal 6 (Aborted) - core dumped
Aborted (core dumped)

So timer_create() does not actually seem to work? I tried some
variations like 50 ms, or using CLOCK_REALTIME instead of
CLOCK_MONOTONIC, all with the same result.

[Bug 525552] Re: Byobu overwrites shell prompt setting

2014-01-14 Thread Jeremiah Snapp
I also see this behavior with byobu 5.60-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 13.10.

I can run byobu manually or automatically at login (using byobu-enable)
but the aliases and functions I have in a /etc/profile.d/lxc-helpers.sh
script aren't available to me.

Interestingly, when I run tmux it does have my profile (aliases and
funtions) available.

As a workaround for byobu I just append the following to my ~/.bashrc
file to re-source the profile which gets everything working as expected.

. /etc/profile

[Bug 1250007] Re: Bootstrapping azure causes memory to fill

2014-01-14 Thread Francesco Banconi
Had the same issue and a debugging session demonstrated that the problem occurs
while marshalling the environInfo management-certificate setting. It ended up I
was using the wrong path to the certificate (management-certificate-path
pointed to the cer file rather than the pem file).
I'd suggest to clarify that in the documentation, which seems at least
ambiguous: https://juju.ubuntu.com/docs/config-azure.html
IMHO we should also improve unexpected values serialization in juju.

[Bug 1269046] [NEW] Nodes created manually and then enlisted are forgotten by MAAS

2014-01-14 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

On my MAAS box running trusty:

In the MAAS UI, we created a node entry for a server, choosing IPMI and
passing the login credentials, IP for the BMC and the MAC address. On
saving the node, MAAS issued the IPMI command to turn the server on.

The server successfully powered on and PXE booted the enlistment image.
Once enlistment was complete, the server powered off.

On refreshing the MAAS UI, however, the original node we created
manually was shown still in the Commissioning state.

A NEW node was also listed, showing it was in the Delcared state.

What seems to have happened is that MAAS, instead of filling data for
the node we created manually, just created a brand new node instead, and
ignored ours.

The original manual node can be safely deleted.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:
When we created the node originally in the UI, we passed it the MAC address for
the BMC port.
The newly created node, however, lists the MAC addresses for all onboard
ethernet ports, NOT the management port.

If the MAC address part of the Add Node page means MAC for the ethernet
device that PXE boots, the page is misleading and needs to be corrected.

As it stands, I thought that MAC entry was supposed to be for the BMC
MAC address.

[Bug 1269073] [NEW] test_tomcat_daemon smoke test failure on images with 3.13 kernel

2014-01-14 Thread Parameswaran Sivatharman
Public bug reported:

Starting from 20140109 onwards with the introduction of 3.13 kernel, we
are seeing test_tomcat_daemon failure in smoke testing.

Impacted jobs are:
http://ci.ubuntu.com/smokeng/trusty/server/amd64/20140114/6057/tomcat-server/666899/
and
http://ci.ubuntu.com/smokeng/trusty/server/i386/20140114/6058/tomcat-server/666815/

Reporting against tomcat although I am not entirely sure where exactly
the issue is.

Steps:
1. Install a tomcat java server on a KVM (libvirt) following,
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/testcases/1410/info

2. Log into the machine and run the test:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-server-dev/ubuntu-test-cases/server-tests-raring/view/head:/testsuites/tomcat-server/test_tomcat_daemon/test.py

or run the following
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo netstat -ltnp | grep java
tcp6   0  0 :::8080 :::*LISTEN

SecureRandom generation is taking alot longer than normal, meaning that
the tomcat7 instance is not starting fully before the tests are run.

[Bug 1263738] Re: login console 0 in user namespace container is not configured right

2014-01-14 Thread Seth Forshee
stderr actually is mapped to a pty. The problem seems to be that getty
can't set /dev/console as its controlling terminal because it's already
the controlling tty for init, which is in a different process group.
Thus getty ends up with no controlling tty, this is inherited by bash,
and thus bash cannot set up job control.

Interesting.

Note that what you describe should also be the case if using a regular
container

sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n u1
sudo lxc-start -n u1

Is the process group of init somehow ending up different in the user
namespace case? Or else why would this only be a problem in the
user namespace case?

2014-01-14 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

It is diffferent. Here's the controlling ttys without user namespaces:

ubuntu@u1:~$ cat /proc/$$/stat | cut -d' ' -f7
34826
ubuntu@u1:~$ cat /proc/1/stat | cut -d' ' -f7
0

and with user namsepaces:

ubuntu@c1:~$ cat /proc/$$/stat | cut -d' ' -f7
0
ubuntu@c1:~$ cat /proc/1/stat | cut -d' ' -f7
34826

init should have its controlling terminal cleared when it calls
setsid(), so either it isn't calling setsid() or else setsid() is
failing. The reasons setsid() would fail are that the process is already
a session group leader or else a session with the same id already
exists. I haven't found how user namespaces would have any effect on
those things, however.

realised that the bug doesn't trigger with straightforward static file
serving. Since I don't have exact steps to reproduce to write a test
case, I can't proceed with an SRU. I also need an SRU justification
filled out. So I'm marking this as Incomplete in Saucy. If anybody wants
to drive through a fix to Saucy, please follow the steps at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

[Bug 1269073] Re: test_tomcat_daemon smoke test failure on images with 3.13 kernel

2014-01-14 Thread Robie Basak
If the problem is a shortage of entropy in /dev/random, then I suggest
that tests replace /dev/random with a symlink to /dev/urandom instead.
urandom should be good enough for testing purposes, since we're not
testing the quality of entropy sources.

Does this resolve the issue?

[Bug 1268120] Re: apt-build generates en error message in update-manager

2014-01-14 Thread Kenneth Wrede
According to comment #11 the source of the problem have changed. It's
caused by a bad behavior from the installation process of apt-build. It
is (correctly in my case) creating a amd-64 folder tree in the
/var/cache. But it wrongly puts a i386-line in sources.list. Those to
MUST be identical.

** Package changed: update-manager (Ubuntu) = apt-build (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1268120] Re: apt-build generates en error message in update-manager

2014-01-14 Thread Kenneth Wrede
I checked this at both versions, saucy precise. It might be correct,
but maybe not. But to me it seems to be something wrong with the folder
structure, or where in it the program are looking.

Ind the sources-manager I can find the row file:/var/cache/apt-
build/repository. (Is mentioned before.)

I looked in the folder manually. ther i found this

-ls output---
dists [folder]
gthumb_3.0.2-0ubuntu3+aptbuild1_amd64.deb
gthumb-data_3.0.2-0ubuntu3+aptbuild1_all.deb
gthumb-dbg_3.0.2-0ubuntu3+aptbuild1_amd64.deb
gthumb-dev_3.0.2-0ubuntu3+aptbuild1_amd64.deb
Packages.gz
Release
--

But the error message was complaining about this folder /var/cache/apt-
build/repository/dists/apt-build/main/binary-i386/Packages

And that's correct! THAT folder doesn't exist. The real structyre goes
like this at my amd-64 machine. (The folder structure seems to be
looped, linked back to a parent folder.)

/var/cache/apt-build/repository/dists/apt-build/main/binary-amd64/dists
/apt-build/...

In his new light I have to conclude that the error message itself is
correct. The bug is that it is looking in the wrong folder. There is
nothing there to find. The update programs is not to blame anymore.

SOLUTIONS

I can se some different solutions. But im not a developer so some of
them might be useless, or create new problems elsewere. My suggests is:

1) Configure apt-build to always put the files in the same folder, and link to
that one in sources.list. (Easy fix?)
2) Configure apt-build to always update sources.list with the right path.
(Better fix?)

[Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

2014-01-14 Thread Kevin Godby
I appreciate the patch, but I don't think this is suitable for the
system documentation. In my view, the system documentation should
document the software as it exists and not provide workarounds for
design decisions.

If the Hibernate menu option appears in the future, I'll happily
document it.

I'm going to mark this bug as invalid for the documentation project. If
the menu option is added in the future, feel free to reopen this bug
against the docs project.

Thanks!

2014-01-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to
install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing
operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using
software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event
that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's
status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is

 Title:
X session suddenly killed, back to login!

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
   Binary package hint: xorg

I just installed a fresh Lucid daily build (6 April) on my laptop.
Basically, while surfing with firefox, all my X session is completely
killed and I'm forced back to login window. No particular action is
able to cause this, but it is the second time that it occurs within
some hours of Lucid usage. I was able to get my .xsession-errors
before logging in again, I'm attaching it below.

WORKAROUND: Disabling nouveau acceleration actually seems to solve the
   problem!

   ProblemType: Bug
   DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
   Package: xorg 1:7.5+3ubuntu1

Ah so it's just about ordering - when the build's parallel, the mock
lightdm .sos can not get built before they're being used, so we're just
missing some DEPENDS in CMake.

[Bug 1268846] Re: Could not update to 13.10

2014-01-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to
how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks

2014-01-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1268838/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1268870] [NEW] Download and install sametime

2014-01-14 Thread Jarkko Korpi
Public bug reported:

This is more like a feature request.

I am just doing distro upgrade from command line.

It downloads around 1 gigabyte of files.

Why it downloads the files 1st and then starts to install?

Depending of connection this can take a lot of time.

It could install files that dont need depencies or some checks and
continue downloading same time.

The time used to download and install would decrease.

[Bug 871808] Re: Asus N55SF/N75SF - External subwoofer not working

2014-01-14 Thread Amir Eldor
(in reponse t o#76)

Raymond, the subwoofer signal is not a different output-bus on this
laptop, it's something built into the sound card. There's no need to
'jack detect'. I have this laptop and applied the fix mentioned above.
Still, my mixer only shows a stereo output (and the subwoofer works).

The hardware is connected via a proietary jack, not a 1/8 or RCA jack.

What I believe the problem is, is that ALSA does not assign the right
model according to the firmware ID on this laptop, or some other
mumbo-jumbo that I am not familiar with.

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is

 would not be helpful.

[Bug 1268528] Re: 0a5c:21e8 [Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3] Broadcom bluetooth device BCM20702A0 not working

2014-01-14 Thread Struan
I am posting from a live install of trusty-desktop-amd64.iso and am
happy to say that A2DP audio works again! The dmesg firmware error
still exists though. I noticed too that although sound works on my BT
headphones, the mic input does not get picked up by the ubuntu sound
utility. Perhaps it should be relegated to a seperate bug report.

$ dmesg | grep Bluetooth

Should I test anything else?

[Bug 1268880] [NEW] unable to toggle microphone mute on T410 / unable to unload thinkpad_acpi module

2014-01-14 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

I recently pressed the physical microphone mute button on my Lenovo
T410. However, I am now unable to unmute it. The orange light next to
the mic mute button comes on when the kernel boots, but pressing it has
no effect.

Possibly related to this, I am now unable to unload the thinkpad_acpi
kernel module (required to run the fan in disengaged mode to work around
the long-standing bug 751689) as it seems to be permanently hooked into
the sound drivers:

$ sudo modprobe -r thinkpad_acpi
modprobe: FATAL: Module thinkpad_acpi is in use.
$ sudo lsmod|grep thinkpad_acpi
