[Bug 1256511] Re: Sounds settings lost after reboot

2014-03-08 Thread Tom Fields
Hi Raymond,

the problem for me is not that HDMI , that no matter what I choose as a
default profile in the audio settings, these changes get lost after
reboot.

That this has to do with HDMI audio becoming available later in the boot
process, after the other outputs have already been initialised, seems
plausible to me.

In any case, that the (pulse-) audio configuration always ends up with
an HDMI-only output profile after reboot is the biggest annoyance.

Thank you for your time, Gunnar :-)

I didn't know about the locale specific situation, I thought that 12h +
AM/PM was a set.

[Bug 1289719] Re: Wifi Problem HP DV7 After Windows 7 Dual Boot Installation

2014-03-08 Thread Mike Garner
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected petra

** Description changed:

Background Info, how the problem came about:

I am writing on behalf of a customer/friend who I've wiped Windows 7 in
yet another ugly mess that I come across often (Windows in general), backed up
user files' and reinstalled with “13.10, Saucy Salamander”. I myself run
Gentoo, but it's not for everybody. I will get straight to the point. He wants
his Locomotive Train Simulation Games to work. I do not like the idea of him
running Windows software under Linux (WINE), and know that can be buggy as well
working half-*** or not at all.

So what I did is, I took a Linux Live DVD (USB actually) and ran
Gparted, resized the only partition (1 Primary, no swap needed with the
amount of ram), and made the free space before the Ext4 Partition for
Linux, and placed an NTFS Partition that would be /dev/sda1. I am doing
everything possible to prevent the Windows installer from doing anything
  to wipe out Linux.

I then went to installing Windows 7. Upon reaching the
partitioner, it recognized the newly created NTFS Partition, and I had
it install there. Yes, knowingly, it would wipe out the MBR of Grub2
with it's own BS that I later fixed using some Gentoo skills (refer to
  the Gentoo Handbook if interested).

  Skip ahead...

Windows 7 and Linux are now both dual booting just fine with Grub2.
However, a problem exists with Wifi working under Linux. I have a couple
  of options:

  1. Solve the problem myself, reconfigure make menuconfig, patch if necessary,
etc. etc., or
  2. Make a bug report, so that when updates come in through Ubuntu
Repositories, the issue is fixed and remains fixed not only for this customer,
but all others that run into the problem and would run into the problem if a
bug fix had not been made.

  Problem in More Detail:

Boot Linux to GUI desktop. Automatic connecting to the WPA2 Wireless Network
by Network Manager does not happen. Then go into Network Manager's Settings and
find out

Airplane mode is enabled. It will toggle off. Wireless is toggled off,
  and refuses to toggle on.

Temporary workaround that gets around the issue:

Suspend the computer in Linux (did so through the GUI), and wake it from
Suspend. Now everything works and behaves as expected, but the problem
  will persist after a reboot.

  Troubleshooting:

Check dmesg # // /* Attachment of dmesg output below */
sudo passwd root
su -
  mike-HP-Pavilion-dv7-Notebook-PC BugReport # rfkill list
  0: phy0: Wireless LAN
  Soft blocked: no
  Hard blocked: Yes
rfkill unblock wifi # Check with list again, same results
rfkill unblock all# Same as above
rfkill block all
rfkill unblock all# Same results still persist
halt/poweroff/reboot
# Booted back up in no time on this ssd drive, command line again
su -
dmesg > dmesg_before
# Suspend work-around mentioned earlier
dmesg > dmesg_after
# Examine with the best editor known to existence, SORRY EMACS FANS!
vimdiff dmesg_before dmesg_after # Files are included as attachments

[Bug 1289941] [NEW] pcmanfm desktop prefrences doesn't create icons on second display

2014-03-08 Thread ianorlin
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)

  Version table:

To reproduce first make two non mirrored displays with arandr I had them with
my 1366x768 ldvs to the left of my 1024x768 VGA monitor. Then make there be no
icons on either either desktop. If you have show menus by windows manager in
pcmafm dialouge checked on uncheck it and then right click on the desktop and
click desktop prefrences. then go to the second tab and on both the first and
second desktops and uncheck all of the show Documents show trash and show
connected places icons on desktop. on both displays then try to add the
documents icon back on the desktop prefrences . I expected an icon to show up
but it did not. It does appear on the first screen on my laptop but not the
second.

[Bug 1289719] Re: Wifi Problem HP DV7 After Windows 7 Dual Boot Installation

2014-03-08 Thread Mike Garner
You know, this may be very convenient for the average Joe who uses
Ubuntu, but for me, I'd like the ability to review information before
having it sent. I'm sending it based on a bug tracking ID. Upon looking
for built-in options, etc, I cannot determine what will be sent, and
that's not what FSF, GNU, Stallman.org, or Launchpad being non open-
source non-FSF, non-GNU is about so I'll go ahead and attempt it
again, but I may just end up making a bug report on the bug report tool.

[Bug 1274425] Re: [UX302LG] black screen on boot

2014-03-08 Thread Gabriel Diosan
I have a similar issue on my desktop. When I boot, most of the time all
I get is a black screen with no login window. I can change to a terminal
prompt (ctrl + alt +F2) to reboot the computer. Sometimes I can boot to
the login screen and use the OS normally but this is probably about 25%
of the time.

OS: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 Beta
CPU: Intel Core2Duo
GPU: AMD Radeon HD7770
Kernel: 3.13.0-16-generic
Gnome Shell Version: 3.10.4-0ubuntu3
