OK, thanks. That makes sense. I'm not sure what the original rationale
was to add that message in the first place, since in the general case we
avoid such things on Ubuntu. So I'll leave the bug open for that, but I
think we can drop the milestone if it's not blocking you.

Yep, sounds good to me.

[Bug 1294699] Re: Xubuntu desktop crashes in call to cairo after setting fixed-width bitmap (pcf) GTK font

2014-03-19 Thread Nathan Kennedy
** Description changed:

Reproduce: In Xubuntu (xfce), go to Settings Manager - Appearance -
Fonts - Default Font, select an installed fixed-width, bitmapped .pcf
font (e.g. ProFont). Desktop crashes; the new font does appear in the
apport dialogs, but attempting to log back into the session, xfdesktop
crashes with an assert in cairo, with gtk up the stacktrace:

  cairo-scaled-font.c:459: _cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion
  `!scaled_font-cache_frozen' failed.
+
+ To undo the change and be able to log in, I had to remove the GTK Font
+ property in xfce4's xsettings.xml config file. It would be a fair
+ limitation if certain bitmap fonts failed over gracefully or were
+ disallowed for selection, however, allowing an the interface to select
+ the font without error, and then crashing and hanging the session on
+ every log-in without and leaving the config in a bad state should be
+ fixed.

[Bug 1214508] Re: nvidia-settings =319 segfaults on close

2014-03-19 Thread Martin Spacek
I just marked a few other bugs as duplicates of this. As I wrote in one
of them, I see this in nvidia-settings 331.20 on my Thinkpad W510
(Nvidia Quadro FX 880M) on Xubuntu 12.10, using the xorg-edgers PPA,
which brings in Linux 3.7.0.7-generic. I'm pretty sure I don't see this
on Xubuntu 13.10, with the same version 331.20 of nvidia-settings, using
the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates PPA. Maybe this suggests the specific
version of some pixbuf library is the culprit. User ssm suggests it's
gtk2-engines-pixbuf (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-
settings/+bug/1268027/comments/21).

Here's what I get in Xubuntu 12.10 while running it in gdb and then
hitting close:

2014-03-19 Thread Free Rage
Hi Christopher,

I'm sorry but I really dont't understand complety the page you linked
me.

Could you tell me if this is correct : I upgraded to 3.8 mainline kernel
so to improve the hardware support I must use this command line : sudo
apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-raring xserver-
xorg-lts-raring libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-raring to install raring other
stuffs. And I do not need to change kernel or should I roll back on
other kernel ?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1292453] Re: after upgrading to 13.10 gnome shell crush

2014-03-19 Thread John Kim
Hi Roi, you can consider doing a fresh install of 13.10.

Otherwise, please execute the following command, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and
the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1291969] Re: No usb on resume from suspend

2014-03-19 Thread Steve Magoun
@Joseph: I don't know, but I suppose it's possible. After reporting this
bug, I blacklisted the i2c-hid driver to work around bug 1218973. I
haven't done many S3 cycles since adding the blacklist, but I will pay
attention to whether this USB bus failure happens again with i2c-hid
blacklisted.

Note that when the USB subsystem fails, the touchpad functionality is
not affected and the keyboard still works fine.

[Bug 1291321] Re: migration fails between 12.04 Precise and 14.04 Trusty

2014-03-19 Thread Valentijn Sessink
Please note my comment #5: removing the vga adapter showed up a new
mismatch, this time for the virtio network adapter. I did not look into
that but you might want to check if there's more memory mismatches that
should be addressed before you start adding code.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

Also, it would be good to know if the issue also happens with the latest

If you have a chance to test it, it can be downloaded from:

2014-03-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1287753] Re: Please update to 331. 49 and/or provide Nvidia 334.21

2014-03-19 Thread yossarian_uk
Not having the latest nvidia driver is silly.

i.e to ship a version with known bugs in (fixed in later versions) and
that don't support the latest hardware in the name of 'stability' is a
bit mad - its not like you can fix the issues (its closes source..)

Unless you ship with 334.21 speed in OpenGL apps/games will not be as
good as if you do...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running

particular issue.

[Bug 1278012] Re: tearing with vsync enabled

2014-03-19 Thread kimothy
I have the same issue with Intel Celeron 1037U CPU. VLC and Totem works
fine. I played aroud with all the settings in compiz and xbmc without
any results. Is downgrading a viable short term solution?

[Bug 1294643] Re: Boot Hangs, lshw display indicates UNCLAIMED

2014-03-19 Thread Cliff Carson
Reinstall 14.04 from the 3/18/14 gnome daily build and do not see the
above problem. Have rebooted and no hangs have occurred. The lshw -c
display is as expected (no UNCLAIMED). Display appears normal.
