Hi Till,

The printer supports all of the following, plus some that would be real unusual

[Bug 1313444] [NEW] Update from 13.10 to 14.04 finished with error Could Not Calculate the Upgrade Message

2014-04-27 Thread Jerry Hernandez
Public bug reported:

I just Follow the steps in the link
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/upgrade, then I received a window
message with the following error:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

Executing the command lsb_release -a
I got

LSB Version:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 13.10

I already tried the commands
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get Update
sudo apt-get Upgrade

in order to determine if my current Ubuntu version should have to be
upgraded prior to jump to the 14.04 version

I expect to have a troublefree upgrade, but the same error that I got
using the Software Updater, I received from the command sudo do-release-

[Bug 1313443] Re: Cannot restore HDMI display after regular TV session

2014-04-27 Thread Bengt Nilsson
I realize that the tagging is incorrect, nothing is wrong with the release
upgrader utility as such.
My point is that the bug is related to the new 14.04LTS distribution, which is
not the same thing.
Please change it to something more suitable, I am not sure what it should be.

[Bug 1313446] [NEW] window disappears on toggle shade

2014-04-27 Thread Bob-El
Public bug reported:

I used Unity Tweak Tool to enable Toggle Shade using middle click. When
I click to top of the window, it rolls up and disappears. A ghost
outline of the window appears and the only way to get the window back is
by using Alt-tab. Sometimes, when reselecting the window using Alt-tab,
Ubuntu freezes (crashes) and an internal error is generated. It seems to
be related to Compiz but I'm not sure. An error report was generated and
sent.

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit)
Release:14.04
unity-tweak-tool 0.0.6ubuntu1

I expected the window would roll up and I'd be left with the window's
top bar like with previous versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1313443] [NEW] Cannot restore HDMI display after regular TV session

2014-04-27 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Public bug reported:

I use my system connected to a TV screen via HDMI. The TV screen is also used
as a regular TV, input selected to be either HDMI or antenna. After upgrading
to 14.04 LTS, after a while of watching regular TV and going back to HDMI
display, the TV reports No signal. I try to revive by moving the mouse or
press the keyboard, but nothing happens. I try to reconnect the HDMI cable, but
no change. The keyboard and mouse are wireless with a USB reciever/transmitter
from Logitech. The only way to restore operation is by forced power recycling,
or connect remotely via ssh and do reboot.
I have tried to set the screensaver and power manager so that the computer
never idles, but there is no improvement.

I have had some trouble with the NVIDIA driver, the HDMI sound
configuration is not stable. HDMI sound units come and go between boots.
Maybe it is connected.

Nothing of this happened in the previous release, 13.04LTS.
The desktop display was readily available after setting the HDMI input selector
on the TV after watching regular channels.

[Bug 1313450] [NEW] Unable to start vsftpd on Ubuntu 14.04 (Amazon/EC2) with default configuration

2014-04-27 Thread Erik Andersson
Public bug reported:

The configuration submitted was modified during testing, but this also
failed with the default configuration. The only solution I have found so
far was to delete the configuration, this would allow the service to

If I try to start the service manually using vsftpd or sudo vsftpd I receive
the following error message:

[Bug 1311385] Re: package postfix 2.11.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-04-27 Thread Randy Skretka
@ Basak: Thank you very much for your fast response.
per: Robie Basak: This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a
bug in Ubuntu.

Postfix is a highly configurable program. There is nearly never an
unconfigured installation of postfix. The installer must then be able to
success with most if not all legitimate (ie. working and error free)
existing configurations.

My postfix package was (before the bug report) and still is operating
error free - until an update to or reconfiguration of postfix is
initiated. Today such an event once again occured.

$ sudo apt-get autoremove
.. ,, ..
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  db5.1-util libtcl8.5 python-central tcl8.5
.. ,, ..
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-0ubuntu6) ...
Setting up postfix (2.11.0-1) ...
.. ,, ..
Running newaliases
postalias: fatal: open /etc/postfix/aliases/: Not a directory
dpkg: error processing package postfix (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
.. ,, ..

The original bug report was on the occasion of the distribution upgrade -
ubuntu 13.10 14.04
Today [Sun Apr 27 13:52:19 2014] the bug repeated during the event as reported
above - following a run of sudo apt-get autoremove. In both cases,
/var/log/mail.err was written to with lines such as these:
Apr 27 11:39:08 Leno-TS130 postfix/postalias[12079]: fatal: open
/etc/postfix/aliases/: Not a directory

As the log has it, /etc/postfix/aliases is not a directory. No. But it is a
file. /etc/postfix/main.cf had the lines:
alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases/
alias_database = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases/

I edited the lines and remove the trailing / and voila, I ran sudo apt-get
autoremove again and postfix was successfully reconfigured (in the apt-get
dpkg sense, not postfix main.cf etc).
$ dpkg -s postfix
.. ,, ..
Status: install ok installed
.. ,, ..

@Robie Basak: You were correct. The postfix main.cf file included a
reference to a regular file appended with a / which caused the
installer and/or package manager scripts to look only for a directory.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-04-27 Thread RazTaz
My problem was resolved by applying the sollution listed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1199059/comments/13
:

The real issue was that module-bluetooth-discover was not loading (and
still does not automatically)

Test by:
pactl list | grep -i module-bluetooth-discover

If empty load via
 pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover

Pulse audio will then (hopefully) recognize the device

I would like to thank Sebastian F (sf-lp) for pointing me in the right
direction, as it seems the bugs were related (at least in my case).

[Bug 1310633] Re: [Acer Aspire X1300] Mouse and eventually keyboard freeze

2014-04-27 Thread Tom Winterhalder
After upgrading to 14.04 I also have this flickering problem again. It seems
that the old line in options.conf:
options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords=PerfLevelSrc=0x NVreg_Mobile=3
NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles=0

is not read anymore (I found this somewhere in the net and it solved the
issue on 13.10).

Using modprobe --resolve-alias nvidia I found the correct driver module
name which in my case is nvidia_331

When changing the module name to nvidia_331 in options.conf X doesn't
start anymore. When removing the NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles option X is
starting again, but doesn't solve the problem.

I don't know if this is helpful

[Bug 1308572] Re: Ubuntu 14.04: security problem in the lock screen

2014-04-27 Thread Seth
@kristian-erik-hermansen Cool find, but utterly irrelevant here. That
bug is about users blindly trusting the screen to auto-lock (which they
_should be able to_).

This bug is about the trust being broken even after they _verified_ that
they had _explicitly_ locked their screens. That's (a) a very different
issue (b) a very different severity of failure.

[Bug 1313224] Re: Outdated naxsi version, incorrect learning tools included in packages

2014-04-27 Thread Ove Jobring
A quick look at the source file
http://ppa.launchpad.net/nginx/stable/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nginx/nginx_1.6.0-1+trusty0.debian.tar.gz
tells me that the naxsi version is still the same and there is still as
far as can see a discrepancy between naxsi version and the learning
/white-list tools included.

I left a comment in bug #1168720 , I think the root cause for the
problem described in that bug is also due to difference between white-
list tool and version of naxsi, although in that bug it's the current
white-list tool being used to generate white-list rules for the older
version of naxsi included in the nginx-naxsi package.

An upgrade of the naxsi version included would be very desirable if
changes are made.

To my knowledge there are extensions to the naxsi config-file format
between 0.50.0 and 0.53-2 but not the same compatibility issues that
have been seen in combination with previous version upgrades of naxsi.
Authoritative answer to this question is best found at the naxsi
upstream, https://github.com/nbs-system/naxsi

I think this naxsi faq answer is relevant with regards to this bug-
report: https://github.com/nbs-
system/naxsi/wiki/faq#Why_do_you_keep_radically_changing_learning_tools_

I'll change the bug status to new.

Thank you for your time and effort!

[Bug 1313446] Re: window disappears on toggle shade

2014-04-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1313446/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1313444] Re: Update from 13.10 to 14.04 finished with error Could Not Calculate the Upgrade Message

2014-04-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1279762 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1279762

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10.
Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade
to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon to
be available or uninstall the package and then upgrade.

[Bug 1296276] Re: Unlocking with greeter fails to properly renew kerberos tickets with pam-krb5

2014-04-27 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Aborted PAM authentications may leave artifacts behind. This is due to
LightDM not correctly calling pam_end on these.
+ Authenticating via a LightDM greeter does not refresh PAM credentials.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Lock screen using LightDM greeter
+ 2. Enter password to return to session
+ Expected result:
+ Screen is unlocked, credentials are refreshed.
+ Observed result:
+ Screen is unlocked, artifacts are left behind from PAM authentication,
credentials not refreshed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Since this change affects the PAM handling other PAM modules might
potentially have a change in behaviour. This seems low risk as both changes are
correct behaviour over the previously incorrect behaviour.
+
I am using the pam-krb5 module to log into a Kerberos realm using
lightdm. This works the initial time I log in, when I come in through
lightdm. However, once I am logged in, and I lock the screen using
light-locker, when I unlock the screen I no longer get renewed tickets.

The problem seems to be this:

  -rw--- 1 me me 504 Mar 23 08:37 krb5cc_1000_sjkfhagfg
  -rw--- 1 root root504 Mar 23 08:38 krb5cc_pam_lsdkjhfsdk

So what is happening is that on the initial login, I get a valid ticket
cache, owned by my logging-in user, and showing my UID in the file name.
This ticket works fine. However, once I lock the screen and then unlock
it, I get a ticket cache owned by root, with _pam_ in the filename,
and of course I can't use it because I am not logged in as root.

This problem did not occur in 12.04 LTS, probably because it did not use
light-locker. The pam-krb5 module works in all other cases in my
installations, so I do not believe this is any kind of problem with the
  pam_krb5 module.

  Thanks,
  Brian

[Bug 1274219] Re: can't resize maximised windows / kubuntu

2014-04-27 Thread Harald Sitter
There is a patch against this but it looks like the kde developers are
refusing to import this into 4.11.x and are only willing to let it in
kde 5.

If it was accepted upstream it will land in whatever version upstream
sees it fit to land in. If upstream does not think it should land in
4.11 then we have no right saying otherwise.

Yes, bug 49579 won't get fixed until
we move away from xorg into Mir...

Well I thought the same, but it seems we still might get that fixed even
before ;-)

[Bug 1313300] Re: Unable to hibernate HP6530b with fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04

2014-04-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kunjesh Kaushik, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
(not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ?
It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically
you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the
following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Summary changed:

- Unable to hibernate HP6530b with fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04
+ [HP Compaq 6530b Notebook PC] Unable to hibernate with Ubuntu 14.04

** Description changed:

- I am able to put my computer to suspend mode (STR) but not to
- hibernation mode (STD). I have already allocated enough of swap space on
- a separate disk partition. But it is not working.
+ I am unable to hibernation mode. I have already allocated enough of swap
+ space on a separate disk partition.

- I have not been able to isolate the problem between suspend and resume,
- and so was testing hibernation support as suggested at
- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelHibernate and
- https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/power/basic-pm-debugging.txt.
- Specifically, I was testing using commands like the following:
-
- | cd /sys/power
- | echo shutdown disk
- | echo platform pm_test
- | echo disk state
-
- So far all the suspend tasks work okay; still no joy!!
-
-
- == My observations ==
-
- I came across two interesting things in the dmesg output:
-
- 1. PCI HotPlug is always reporting existing devices while trying to
- resume.
-
- | [ 3098.516294] pciehp :00:1c.5:pcie04: Device :85:00.0 already
exists at :85:00, cannot hot-add
- | [ 3098.516300] pciehp :00:1c.1:pcie04: Device :02:00.0 already
exists at :02:00, cannot hot-add
- | [ 3098.516304] pciehp :00:1c.5:pcie04: Cannot add device at :85:00
- | [ 3098.516307] pciehp :00:1c.1:pcie04: Cannot add device at :02:00
-
- I suspect these devices (which happen to be for the ethernet and the
- wifi) are not allowing the suspend to proceed. A little bit of searching
- also led me to http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.pci/19876
- which indicates that this problem may be a regression.
-
- 2. ACPI is also complaining about AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT exception,
- although only once, at the boot time.
-
- | [ 16.019199] i915 :00:02.0: fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device
- | [ 16.019201] i915 :00:02.0: registered panic notifier

-
- This need not be of any consequence; just something I thought would be
- interesting.
-
- == Addtional information ==
-
- 1. Earlier, I had blacklisted all tpm* modules after I had discovered
- that the tpm_tsi module was trying to access the TPM chip. The problem
- has existed before as well as after this blacklisting. FYI, the
- blacklist information is pasted below:
-
- | # remove all tpm (trusted platform module) drivers
- | # location: /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/char/tpm/*
- | blacklist tpm_atmel
- | blacklist tpm_i2c_atmel

- | blacklist tpm_infineon
- | blacklist tpm_nsc
- | blacklist xen-tpmfront

[Bug 1309938] Re: Thinkpad Twist 3347-2HU resumes immediately after suspend

2014-04-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Amos Blanton, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update to
your BIOS is available (1.66). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see

.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1313132] Re: Nautilus, Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit, Nautilus opens another window instead to use that window which is allready open

2014-04-27 Thread Thiago Francisco de Campos
This bug affects me too.

Important notes 1: When i'm using Nautilus whithin my Home directory,
maximize and minimize function normally, however, when I'm browsing on
another partition (NTFS - dualboot Win7 or pendrive), by clicking on the
icon opens a new instance instead of using the same.

Important note 2: I realized that when the Nautilus is not locked in the
launcher (I'm using Nemo for while), the minimize and maximize function
normally.

[Bug 1313465] [NEW] qmlscene crashes on music-app exit

2014-04-27 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
Public bug reported:

Add the music app to the desktop from the daily ppa:-

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-touch-coreapps-drivers/+archive/daily

Install the music-app.

Run music-app by searching for Music from the dash.
Play some music, close the app with the close button in the qmlscene window.
This generates a crashdump for me.

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/4d725aae-ce65-11e3-8e02-fa163e373683 is
an example of one.
