[Bug 1320694] Re: [Intel NUC] Cannot boot new UEFI install with Encrypted LVM

2014-05-20 Thread Sean Rodriguez
Turns out it was something else entirely :) I've attached the
bootinfoscript just in case there was something else interesting there.

I made the incorrect assumption that the manufacture date of 04/2014
stamped on the bottom might imply it would have a recent firmware
installed. Nope!

http://i.imgur.com/M5PTYFT.jpg [VisualBIOS before update]
http://imgur.com/L3XzPXq [VisualBIOS update process]
http://imgur.com/hhxTrxU [VisualBIOS after update]

As you can see the installation is displayed just fine now and boots
right up. Feeling a bit silly on my part now that it seems so obvious,
but it might be worth updating https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI as
an additional troubleshooting step.

The NUC in question is model D54250WYKH
I'm not sure if it is specific to the 2.5" SSD as I didn't have anything in the
mSATA port to test.

Thanks Bart, that workaround has allowed me to install Wine1.7 again.

Oh and just an additional tidbit in case someone else comes across this
issue, the EFI partition was a handy place to put the BIOS update as the
menu displays that partition as an option to look for the the update
within Intel's Visual BIOS

[Bug 1321553] Re: Flash errors when i start ubuntu

2014-05-20 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

I've accepted this into trusty-proposed. I note that a symbol has

[Bug 1321421] Re: Severly distorted Sound output with ALC1150 Sound Codec

2014-05-20 Thread Benjamin Geese
Another update:
I build the Vanilla 3.14 Kernel and removed the NVIDIA Graphics Card in an
attemp to isolate the issue. No success so far. Actually it turns out the
problem is not related to the NVIDIA Card. I get the same noise without the
card installed.

It seems to get a bit better under high cpu load though strange? Any

[Bug 1314471] Re: [SRU] Update ubuntu-kylin-software-center to 0.2.9.6

2014-05-20 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Normally for an SRU the upload to trusty-proposed would include
launchpad links for each of the bugs fixed (ie: the changelog would
contain (LP: #1306137) rather than (bug#1306137)). We use this to track
which bugs have been tested and are known to be fixed.

It is also difficult to determine whether the changes are appropriate
for an SRU. Particularly - what problem does the change to os.execv in
bug 1307280 solve, and UI changes are usually (but not always)
inappropriate for an SRU.

The changelog is also insufficiently detailed - the changelog is visible
to the user in the update dialog, and should give a good indication of
what bugs are being fixed.

I'm not aware of any exception to the SRU processes granted to the
Ubuntu Kylin packages by the Technical Board. If I've missed something,
please point it out!

I've rejected this upload, but please upload again with a changelog with
LP: # links to the various bugs, some more rationale on bug 1307280.

[Bug 1321548] [NEW] dropbearconvert is not included within package

2014-05-20 Thread Alif Mubarak Ahmad
Public bug reported:

Dropbear has its own binary key format which is not compatible with openssh key
format. For use with OpenSSH, dropbear key has to be exported as openssh key
format.
This process requires tool called dropbearconvert, which is able to export
dropbear key format to openssh format. It also comes handy to convert openssh
key to dropbear format.
It's important for dropbearconvert to be included with dropbear package to make
it easy converting between key type.

[Bug 1118689] Re: HP envy dv4 - radio kill hotkey does not work

2014-05-20 Thread Alex Hung
The original bug is caused by a bug in WMI driver in kernel 3.5;
however, with _OSI("Windows 2012") = true, BIOS no longer uses WMI to
control wireless, and therefore it can be fixed by another kernel driver
(see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-
saucy/+bug/1303737).

I verified it on HP 242 G2 (LP#1303737) with two kernel versions and it
works pretty well.

[Bug 472264] Re: dropbear package does not include scp

Unless there is a mechanism to allow which scp is used by default, via

update-alternatives --config scp

2014-05-20 Thread Vlad Omir
As an aside, I can also now open drives on my local network without
having to enter a root password...

I was rather attached to that feature as well...

It kept my family out of drives that I didn't want f_ck_ed with...

I'm going to go back to 13.10 until someone can correct this stuff...

2014-05-20 Thread Theodore Ts'o
Thanks, I was able to reproduce the problem using a test file system.
The problem appears to have been caused by an extent-mapped inode
getting written (or copied) to a different/wrong place in the inode
table. I should be able to get this fixed now that I have a simple
repro.

[Bug 1310017] Re: freetype 2.5.x broke rendering of the default Korean font

2014-05-20 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Changwoo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted freetype into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freetype/2.5.2-1ubuntu2.2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1308125] Re: ERROR:browser_main_loop.cc(240)] Gdk: gdk_window_set_user_time called on non-toplevel

2014-05-20 Thread Tong Sun
Thank you Javier for reporting and digging into it.

It should affect everybody but strangely not much people are complaining
about it here. I tried the workaround you pointed out, it only works in
the environment that is not expecting ibus inputs. I.e., launching
cromium-browser from xterm that does not accept ibus input would work,
yet launching cromium-browser from rxvt that does takes ibus inputs
would fail, and eventually freeze the whole system.

Although the new google Aura graphics stack is a good thing, I do agree
that it's too early for Canonical to enable Aura in Chromium 34 in
Ubuntu 14.04, because even the official Google Chrome 34 is released
with Aura disabled.

Instead of going 35 (or better? 36), I've concluded that *for me*, the
*safest* way is to uninstalled chromium for 14.04 and download chrome
from google -- https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/?platform=linux

[Bug 1321501] [NEW] gtkpod crashes when ipod touch 2nd gen mounts

2014-05-20 Thread flipflip47
Public bug reported:

The problem I am having is that when i install gtkpod from software
center, gtkpod crashes when I mount the ipod touch 2nd gen. Error
message shows segmentation fault (core dumped). I then removed the
package, went to the official gtkpod website and downloaded the tar
ball. I followed the instructions to compile gtkpod and finally it was
working. After i had it working, i updated via the software updater and
again it crashes whenever i mount the ipod 2nd gen. I currently have
the gtkpod from the ubuntu package.

Ubuntu 14.04

[Bug 1303736] Re: Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2014-05-20 Thread slumbergod
Just an update on behaviour.

This morning when I woke up I opened my Samsung laptop lid and as
expected the screen was blank. I had set up an alias in my bash with
'xrandr -- auto' to try so I pressed Super+t to get a terminal even
though I was expecting to do this with no screen.

Much to my surprise, after a few seconds the screen came on.
Unfortunately, the system was almost in a frozen state. Moving the mouse
was very slow and jerky. It was so unresponsive I still had to do a
forced shut down with the power button i.e. impossible to restart
through the panel menu or even command line.

I should note that this "frozen" state where the machine is unusable has
also happened randomly on a few occasions when the lid was not closed.

[Bug 445416] Re: grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea.

2014-05-20 Thread Jeremy Dawson
There's no indication in any of the messages that the bug is fixed. And I
can't see that any of them address my own comments in #9.

As #8 points out there are two issues - (1) the warning itself, which
doesn't contain (or point to) a clear explanation of the issue, and (2)
the fact that GRUB2 seems to expect to be the only OS present (or that
all other OSes present provide boot code within their own partitions).

As it is I use Grub Legacy (having worked out the errors in its
documentation) and the IT support folk here (ANU) seem to do the same on
the machine they have just installed for me.

[Bug 1312489] Re: 06cb:5710 [HP Split 13-m110ca x2 PC] Synaptics Touch Pad V 103S not working

Christopher and Vincent, thanks so much for your posts but I have spent agers
reading page after page, working out acronims and hitting more and more links
and just do not understsnd.
I want to help with bug reports and fix this problem but the language and
knowledge required is above me. The list of issues with my computer is growing
and none have been solved, I can only just use it.

With this touchpad will it work sometime after an update? Will this
issue be solved at some point or do I have to keep trying to work out
how to apply your advice?

Thanks again for trying to help me with this issue.

  * Cleanup the chroot if "click chroot create" fails (unless
--keep-broken-chroot is used)
  * Fix sources.list generation when native_arch and target_arch are on the
same archive server (part of LP #1319153).
  * Add "click framework list" command to list available frameworks
(LP: #1294659).

  [ Pete Woods ]
  * Add libunity-scopes-dev package to chroot (LP: #1320786).

  [ Sergio Schvezov ]
  * click chroot creation depends on dpkg-architecture, so recommend
dpkg-dev.

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * chroot: Handle the case where we can execute binaries for the target
architecture directly and thus don't need a cross-compiler
(LP: #1319153).

[Bug 1312301] Re: Pecan version issue in Icehouse ceilometer package

2014-05-20 Thread Sina Sadeghi
Same problem here. Please place the appropriate version packages in the
icehouse repo ASAP.

Why was this not caught by testing/QA? Is metering swift with ceilometer
considered an edge case?

** Also affects: ceilometer
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** No longer affects: ceilometer

[Bug 1321341] Re: Frequent crash in LyX when merging tracked changes

2014-05-20 Thread Scott Kostyshak
Thanks for the quick reply, Christopher. That's not good news about
trac. Can you try one more time with a different email address and if
that doesn't work please send an email to lyx-de...@lists.lyx.org
explaining the problem? It's very important to us to be able to get
feedback from users, especially if they give detailed bug reports like
this one.
