2014-06-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

2014-06-03 Thread KeithG
Christopher,

I am willing to do this, but need a bit more hand holding to do it. I
have collected the ubuntu-saucy abd ubuntu-precise kernel folders. I am
trying to follow the example, but do not get very far.

What I think I know: linux 3.2.0.63-generic works well. This is the
latest kernel from precise (12.04). The initial kernel from Saucy does
not work, it is linux 3.11.0-12.19. That is a huge jump in revision (3.2
to 3.11) and the example shows how to bisect within a release. Do I need
to try the 12.10, then 13.04 releases first in order to do this bisect
or can it be done with what I know now? If so, I need a bit more help to
do it.

[Bug 1318584] Re: checkbox-gui crashed when switching video out mode to external only mode

2014-06-03 Thread Steve Magoun
This affects all SDK apps - I can reproduce it with the clock, calendar,
gallery, and music apps on the desktop.

On my system (Dell XPS 13 with external display) the video mode hotkey cycles
in the following order:
extended mode -> mirror mode -> external display only -> internal display only
-> extended mode

If I launch an SDK app while in extended mode, the app comes up on the
laptop display. The SDK apps stay running after switching to mirror
mode. Switching again to "external display only" mode reliably causes
the SDK apps to crash.

[Bug 1326003] [NEW] apparmor prevents libvirt from running pygrub

In Ubuntu 14.04, the Evince/Document viewer (version 3.10.3) the zoom in
keyboard shortcut is no longer just the =/+ key but now requires the
shift key to be held down.

I assume this is a regression, since every previous version of Evince
simply mapped zoom in to =/+, no shift required. The Zoom out shortcut
  is unchanged (the -/_ key).

Yes, this is because pulseaudio builds without webrtc support by
default. Just installing the package is not enough. You will need to
rebuild pulseaudio with libwebrtc-audio-processing-dev installed (and
maybe there needs to be some packaging changes to PA too, not sure).

2014-06-03 Thread Gioele Barabucci
It looks like the same problem is present also in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
After stating a 190k files with `find` and `grep`, the kernel log is
full of

ecryptfs_decrypt_page: Error attempting to read lower page; rc = [-4]
ecryptfs_readpage: Error decrypting page; rc = [-4]

Couldn't these printk from ecryptfs be augmented with some additional
information? At least to make sure that we are all hitting the same bug.

[Bug 1326000] [NEW] whoopsie should record OOPS ID for an uploaded crash

2014-06-03 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

When whoopsie uploads a crash to errors.ubuntu.com the OOPS ID for the
crash should be recorded by whoopsie in a log file. This would require
some work on daisy's part to return the OOPS ID. This would allow one to
more easily find the OOPS corresponding to a crash then going to the
user page and looking at all of the most recent OOPSes to find the one
you are interested in.

That's not really true.

Myabe you meant:

In this directory, xymon client extensions can place their
configuration files. Manually added configuration files may not be
   handled automatically on package upgrades.

Will add that one for sure.

[Bug 1292290] Re: Window manager keybindings don't work after reboot

2014-06-03 Thread Kevin Nadaud
I have the same problem. But I discover something:

If the shortcut exist before (has been set by defaut), the modification is not
taken into account after restarting. The default shortcut work's even if the
key cominaison is not the default.
For example: After restarting, to maximise the window, Alt+F10 will work even
if you set Ctrl+Alt+M.

If the shortcut doesn't exist by default, the shortcut works
before/after restarting.

[Bug 1325999] [NEW] Updates to pre-installed apps in /opt/click.ubuntu.com

2014-06-03 Thread Pat McGowan
Public bug reported:

There are one or more out of date updates for all pre-installed apps in
/opt/click.ubuntu.com.
My understanding is that this area is intended for user installed apps.
The latest updates for these apps are in /usr.

The Storage view of apps in About shows these multiple copies but the
user is not able to take any action.

Perhaps there are two issues:
1) app updates did not remove the older versions from /opt
2) system updates do not remove updates received from the store

[Bug 1325987] [NEW] shuffled keys in keyboard buffer

2014-06-03 Thread Daniele Varrazzo
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I've recently installed lubuntu 14.04 on a funnily underpowered netbook
(Acer Aspire One, 512 Mb RAM, 8GB disk VERY slow, probably made out of
cheddar).

Being the RAM limited and the disk amazingly slow, the PC often freezes
for a few seconds during almost any operation. In previous Linux
installations on the same machine I used to keep on typing, waiting for
the result buffered keys to appear after the tantrum has passed. On this
installation instead the keys appear... but shuffled, not in the order
they were typed.

As an example I've just "op w aandt hee yeoennab pstgnditmde" (that was
"opened a new tab and typed something").

What could be the component to blame? Thank you.

[Bug 1303934] Re: traceback when unable to reach metadata server

2014-06-03 Thread Scott Moser
I have to mark this as fix-released. I'm not really sure how you could have
seen the output you saw, and I just verified that cloud-init in trusty gives a
saner message. Heres how:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure cloud-init # select 'Azure' on an openstack instance,
something that iwll not be found
 sudo cloud-init init --local
 sudo cloud-init init

this shows on stderr:
 2014-06-03 13:28:56,208 - util.py[WARNING]: No instance datasource found!
Likely bad things to come!
the /var/log/cloud-init.log shows:

Jun 3 13:27:10 inst-trusty-20140602-191433 [CLOUDINIT] util.py[DEBUG]:
No instance datasource found! Likely bad things to come!#012Traceback

raise DataSourceNotFoundException(msg)#012DataSourceNotFoundException:
Did not find any data source, searched classes: (DataSourceAzureNet)

See here, the 'searched classes' is not empty.

The other part of this bug (what I actually think happened) is that
cloud-init did not sanely warn that it tried to read something from the
cloud_config_url and was unable to get it.

I'm just going to re-purpose this bug to that.

[Bug 1303934] Re: no error message to console when cloud-config-url fails to load

2014-06-03 Thread Scott Moser
The fix as I see it is just that we need to scream fairly loudly t
read_write_cmdline_url
if there was a cloud-config-url on the kernel command line, and we failed to
get it, then this is bad news and we should do everythign we can to alert the
user.

Disabling the SNA acceleration will solve the issue at a significant

[Bug 1257435] Re: Chef does not run with all install types

2014-06-03 Thread Scott Moser
It does seem that the bug you're reporting is valid. I'm not very familiar at
all with chef, though.
Had I looked at this code, I would have just expected that something would run
that automatically in the other install paths (packages or omnibus).

It really looks like we're expecting for the install path to hook up the
running of chef-client. I just verified that the package install of
'chef' from the ubuntu archive will install a /etc/init.d/chef-client
script. That script will then either run at the appropriate time later
in boot (if cloud-init does nothing) or via the package's postinst
script (if cloud-init installs something).

So heres the table of conditions as I see them, looking at the current trunk
version of cloudinit/config/cc_chef.py:
1.) /usr/bin/chef-client exists and force_install not set
 packages's /etc/init.d/chef-client will run chef-client.
for other install path, generally *assumed* that there is some mechanism
for running on boot.
2.) /usr/bin/chef-client does not exist or force-install set.
 2A) gems:
 cloud-init runs chef-client -d -i 1800 -s 20

 2B) packages:
package's postinst script will run chef-client via /etc/init.d/chef-client

 2C) omnibus:
assumption is that executing 'omnibus_url' would result in chef-client
being executed *or* setting up execution to work on first boot that would
 happen later.

So which of those cases is wrong?

Sorry its taken so long to get a look at this, but the code generally
seems sane to me at this point. Theres no reason to run chef-client
if its going to be run elsewhere.

Please answer and set this back to 'new' or 'triaged' . Thanks.

[Bug 1325943] Re: open vm tools cannot be installed

2014-06-03 Thread Robert C Jennings
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1083719 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1083719

Marking this as a duplicate of bug #1083719. open-vm-tools with an HWE
kernel (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack) is broken.
You are running with the HWE kernel from Raring.

As an alternative to 1083719 if you can upgrade to a Saucy or Trusty HWE
kernel you could try the new open-vm-tools-lts-trusty packages which are
being introduced in bug #1275656. That package is a backport from
Trusty but it requires a Saucy HWE kernel or newer; your Raring (3.8)
kernel is insufficient.
