[Bug 1334659] [NEW] Almost everything is wrong with the partial upgrade prompt
Public bug reported: Unfortunately I didn't grab a screenshot, but I got a prompt from Update Manager saying essentially: Not all updates could be [downloaded/installed/don't-remember]. Run a partial upgrade to install as many updates as possible. This could be due to: (and a list of possible reasons) There are a few things which are wrong in this prompt and its behavior: 1 - it lacked a details dropdown to see exactly what updates had errors (and which kind of errors) 2 - it lacked a Retry option 3 - There were three buttons: Settings on one side, and Partial upgrade and Continue on the other side = it's not clear at all what's the difference between Partial Upgrade and Continue. I think I understand what Partial Upgrade does, but then what does Continue do that is not the same thing? 4 - I clicked on the Settings button. This opened the settings window (ok) and I closed it. When I closed it, the prompt disappeared and got replaced by a new window with the usual list of available updates and the prompt to select which of them to install. So, what happened when I closed the Settings window without touching any setting? Did it proceed with the Partial Upgrade option or with the Continue option (whatever the difference is)? Both of them would be wrong. It should have still waited for my decision. [Bug 1334658] [NEW] Oracle JRE should fulfill dependency
Public bug reported: BACKGROUND INFORMATION: freemind specifies its Java dependency like this: default-jre | sun-java6-jre The package sun-java6-jre (and sun-java7-jre) doesn't exist anymore (the old method of installing the original Sun/Oracle JRE/JDK has been removed) and default-jre boils down to OpenJDK. I can confirm this bug exists in trusty. Would be nice to fix on an LTS release. [Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found
Update: the boot repair disk fails to boot, because of the PAE bug. Adding forcepae to the boot options does not help either. However, Super Grub2 Disk does boot, recognizes the config and can be used to boot the system. Now I have the safest laptop ever! Nobody can boot it but me! In the previous post I thought that the found filesystems were broken, bu this is not the case. The /boot directory on the / partition is off course empty because the /boot partition was mounted there. Reading this list and different forums on the internet, ot appears that the master boot record and the grub2 install are no longer in sync when / and /boot are on different partitions. [Bug 1328542] Re: [xorg-edgers] OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations
@Graham libviennacl-dev has a build-depends on libopencl1 (virtual) and does not specify a suggested implementation (although this is against policy, so probably can be filed as a bug against that package) . I believe you are correct that this is against policy, the build-depends should be on something similar to: ocl-icd-opencl-dev | opencl-dev The real package should be listed before the alternate virtual package. The alternate virtual package is there for users who wish to build packages locally and want to use an alternate package providing opencl- dev, not ocl-icd-opencl-dev. I don't think this is something that Ubuntu should (or can) nip in the bud. I think bugs should be filed in the Debian BTS against the relevant packages (viennacl, etc.) and discussed in the OpenCL Packager's mailing list [1]. [Bug 1334195] Re: libvirt/libxl: Failing to save guest due to apparmor denial
After thinking and playing around with it, I think the rules should not be too loose. [Bug 1310406] Re: [regression] Trusty kernel doesn't recognize GeForce 8600m GT nor with nouveau or nvidia drivers
@Gianluca: You can grab the latest bios version from http://is.gd/XqTq1B, but unfortunately I did this in one of my friend's PC, and he still had a Win partition, then I used that not to spend too time to figure out another solution. This bug was fixed in the package choose-mirror - 2.57ubuntu1 --- choose-mirror (2.57ubuntu1) utopic; urgency=medium * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes: - Use Ubuntu mirrors. - Ubuntu branding. - Set default country to GB. - Never ask mirror/suite, mark it untranslatable, and give it appropriate choices for Ubuntu. - Pick CC.archive.ubuntu.com (for the country selected in the installer) as the default mirror. For ports architectures (armel, powerpc) use ports.ubuntu.com instead. - Drop the priorities of the country/mirror questions to medium if we're installing from a CD that includes the base system. - Support setting OVERRIDE_BASE_INSTALLABLE in the environment to force choose-mirror to assume that the base system is installable. - Skip mirror validation if the base system is installable and we're installing from a mirror in the masterlist. - Don't check if archive.ubuntu.com is reachable before asking for a proxy. - Allow preseeding the default CC.archive.ubuntu.com setup by preseeding mirror/http/mirror to CC.archive.ubuntu.com, and likewise for mirror/ftp/mirror. - Force xgettext to use UTF-8 encoding when generating templates files, to cope with Côte d'Ivoire. - Only default mirror/country to the value of debian-installer/country if the latter has any mirrors; otherwise, fall through to defaulting to GB. - Exclude all-countries mirrors such as ports.ubuntu.com when determining whether there is a mirror in the country specified in debian-installer/country. - If the selected country has no mirror (excluding all-countries mirrors), then fall back to the default. * Switch to utopic by default (LP: #1327825). choose-mirror (2.57) unstable; urgency=medium [ Paul Wise ] * Update Mirrors.masterlist choose-mirror (2.56) unstable; urgency=medium [ Colin Watson ] * Disable echoing of check-masterlist commands, so that the warning message in the echoed shell commands doesn't confuse Jenkins. [Bug 1332203] Re: autofs5-ldap regularly crashes after long periods of time
Just to make sure all the information is together, I noticed earlier there was a piece of a log message in that stack trace I posted. I tried to see what I could do to piece together part of it: %s: lookup(ldap): query failed for search dn %s: %s became Invalid DN syntax: lookup(ldap): query failed for search dn %s: %s I was unable to get the other two substitutions since it's difficult to pull information out of the va_list. I have a suspicion that one of them may be an empty string or NULL. That may all be site-specific problems, but I grepped through the autofs5 code and saw that message corresponds to line 396 of `modules/lookup_ldap.c`: 395 error(logopt, 396 MODPREFIX query failed for search dn %s: %s, 397 this-basedn, ldap_err2string(rv)); which is the error handling side of an ldap_search_s call: 374 rv = ldap_search_s(ldap, this-basedn, 375 scope, query, attrs, 0, result); I don't have the debug symbols for lookup_ldap.so so I'm unable to go much further than this. [Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates
The nopahandling does not include the plugin, while the deb version does and only hasn't got the pulseaudio module unload. So it should be identical to David Henningsson's PPA version. Since the nopahandling branch did not work for zig59, I'm going for this minimalistic approach. Although I'm not sure how pulseaudio could work with other tools like gnome-bluetooth then, since they do not employ any specific pulseaudio handling at all... The syslog messages are probably a result of blueman competing with the discovery module for the initialization of the devices. I'm not sure if the source redirection (that's the rest the applet plugin is responsible for) will even work if blueman cannot load the device module itself. Looking at the source I do not think so, but then it should not make a difference to just remove the module-bluetooth-discover unload or remove the whole PulseAudio applet plugin... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283003 Title: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/blueman/+bug/1283003/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1334699] [NEW] mountroot_fail returns success when it has not changed the root found situation
Public bug reported: When booting and the root filesystem is not found, initramfs runs any mountroot_fail hook scripts which have been registered. The mdadm mountroot_fail script tries to assemble arrays and if mdadm --incremental --run --scan or mdadm --assemble --scan --run return successfully it returns with a 0 return value. This will cause the top level caller to exit any other failure hooks and try to mount root again. This seems good, but the mdadm executions will also return successfully if they made no change to the situation. In my particular problem, the kernel did not have access to the modules needed to see my hard drives. Thus mdadm could not assemble them into the root device. However, since the mountroot_fail function returned success (since mdadm had no failures in assembling no devices) the initramfs continued to loop forever trying to find root, running mountroot_fail in mdadm-functions, repeat. It would never drop to am emergency shell so I could examine the situation. I did not discover my module issue until I added a check in the mountroot_fail to see if the script had been run more than once. Below is my code which I added before each return 0 in the original script, but it is not suitable as a real solution. if [ -f /tmp/mdadm_loop ] ; then return 1 fi touch /tmp/mdadm_loop return 0 Below is required info based on reporting instructions. # lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release:14.04 # apt-cache policy mdadm mdadm: Installed: 3.2.5-5ubuntu4.1 Candidate: 3.2.5-5ubuntu4.1 Version table: *** 3.2.5-5ubuntu4.1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.2.5-5ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages ** Affects: mdadm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1334699 Title: mountroot_fail returns success when it has not changed the root found situation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/1334699/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
