[Bug 1334659] [NEW] Almost everything is wrong with the partial upgrade prompt

2014-06-26 Thread Teo
Public bug reported:

Unfortunately I didn't grab a screenshot, but I got a prompt from Update
Manager saying essentially:

Not all updates could be [downloaded/installed/don't-remember]. Run a partial
upgrade to install as many updates as possible.
This could be due to: (and a list of possible reasons)

There are a few things which are wrong in this prompt and its behavior:

1 - it lacked a details dropdown to see exactly what updates had errors (and
which kind of errors)
2 - it lacked a Retry option
3 - There were three buttons: Settings on one side, and Partial upgrade and
Continue on the other side
= it's not clear at all what's the difference between Partial Upgrade and
Continue. I think I understand what Partial Upgrade does, but then what does
Continue do that is not the same thing?

4 - I clicked on the Settings button. This opened the settings window (ok) and
I closed it. When I closed it, the prompt disappeared and got replaced by a new
window with the usual list of available updates and the prompt to select which
of them to install.
So, what happened when I closed the Settings window without touching any
setting? Did it proceed with the Partial Upgrade option or with the
Continue option (whatever the difference is)? Both of them would be wrong. It
should have still waited for my decision.

[Bug 1334658] [NEW] Oracle JRE should fulfill dependency

2014-06-26 Thread andreas.fischl
Public bug reported:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

freemind specifies its Java dependency like this:
default-jre | sun-java6-jre

The package sun-java6-jre (and sun-java7-jre) doesn't exist anymore (the
old method of installing the original Sun/Oracle JRE/JDK has been
removed) and default-jre boils down to OpenJDK.

PROBLEM:

A custom Java installation ( see https://wiki.debian.org/JavaPackage ) provides
- among others - these dependencies instead:
java6-runtime | java7-runtime

Other Java applications ( e.g. http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/jedit ) depend
on this instead:
default-jre | java7-runtime | java6-runtime

SOLUTION:

Append java6-runtime | java7-runtime to freemind's dependencies (and
optionally remove the unused sun-java6-jre).

[Bug 1213035] Re: 8086:1502 [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] e1000e module sometimes prevents suspend to ram

2014-06-26 Thread JD Rogers
I can confirm this bug exists in trusty. Would be nice to fix on an LTS
release.

I had not been using ethernet (only wireless) for some time, but
recently started using wired and this bug very consistently prevents
suspend. I think the occurrance is around 100% of the time if I suspend
after ethernet has been used.

sudo rmmod e1000e; sudo modprobe e1000e is an easy enough workaround,
but it continues to be an annoyance.

It looks like our plugin is constructed and *then* the argv property is
set. Our code assumes that this is a construct property.
I'm not sure whether this assumption is correct, but since this used to work,
it's very likely that something changed in u-c-c.

Sorry, I won't be able to get the kernel bisection until perhaps the middle of
July but most likely the beginning of August.
I am traveling a lot this summer and won't have more than a week at home until
August. And I'm not going to be spending those few days at home bisecting a
kernel.

2014-06-26 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Utopic have recently updated libnet-dns-perl to 0.77-3 (proposed)
but is not installable without spamassassin 3.4.0-2 or better, which is
available from Sid

spamassassin (3.4.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Install a systemd unit file. (Closes: 716887)
  * Use env+start-stop-daemon instead of su in cron jobs.
  * Skip the random pause in cron.daily if running interactively.
  * Apply upstream patch to support new Net::DNS interface.
(Closes: 752542)
  * Use dpkg-buildflags instead of the deprecated hardening-wrapper

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found

2014-06-26 Thread DonQuichote
Update: the boot repair disk fails to boot, because of the PAE bug.
Adding forcepae to the boot options does not help either. However,
Super Grub2 Disk does boot, recognizes the config and can be used to
boot the system. Now I have the safest laptop ever! Nobody can boot it
but me!

In the previous post I thought that the found filesystems were broken,
bu this is not the case. The /boot directory on the / partition is off
course empty because the /boot partition was mounted there. Reading this
list and different forums on the internet, ot appears that the master
boot record and the grub2 install are no longer in sync when / and /boot
are on different partitions.

I tried a re-install (using synaptic) of the packages grub-pc, grub-
pc-bin, and grub2-common. It did not solve the issue.

[Bug 1328542] Re: [xorg-edgers] OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations

2014-06-26 Thread Graham Inggs
@Graham libviennacl-dev has a build-depends on libopencl1 (virtual) and does
not specify a suggested implementation (although this is against policy, so
probably can be filed as a bug against that package) .

I believe you are correct that this is against policy, the build-depends
should be on something similar to:

ocl-icd-opencl-dev | opencl-dev

The real package should be listed before the alternate virtual package.
The alternate virtual package is there for users who wish to build
packages locally and want to use an alternate package providing opencl-
dev, not ocl-icd-opencl-dev.

I don't think this is something that Ubuntu should (or can) nip in the
bud. I think bugs should be filed in the Debian BTS against the
relevant packages (viennacl, etc.) and discussed in the OpenCL
Packager's mailing list [1].

[Bug 1334195] Re: libvirt/libxl: Failing to save guest due to apparmor denial

2014-06-26 Thread Stefan Bader
After thinking and playing around with it, I think the rules should not
be too loose. So will go with:

/usr/lib/xen-*/bin/libxl-save-helper PUx,

** Description changed:

Another glitch when moving from the xm to the xl toolstack: libvirtd
needs to run /usr/lib/xen-4.4/bin/libxl-save-helper but is denied by the
  apparmor profile. Need to add:

  /usr/lib/xen-4.4/bin/* PUx,

to the profile. Or even generally allow

  /usr/lib/xen-*/bin/* PUx,

which would match both xen-common/bin and any xen-version/bin.
+
+ SRU Justification (for Trusty):
+
+ Impact: Apparmor will prevent libvirt to save a Xen guest via libxl
+ because the helper command cannot be executed from libvirtd.
+
+ Fix: Add the following rule to the libvirtd apparmor profile:
+ /usr/lib/xen-*/bin/libxl-save-helper PUx,
+
+ Testcase: Start a (HVM) guest via libvirt, then run save (virsh). This
+ will fail without the additional rule but succeed when it is added.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-06-26 Thread Sebastian F
@cschramm
The package from your PPA (version 1.23-git201406261335-deb-1) works for me (on
XFCE, no gnome-bluetooth installed). Pairing with speakers is possible and i'm
able to select them in pavucontrol and play back audio.
I have to do this manually, so the PulseAudio manager plugin doesn't seem to
work, yet (I have Move streams and Make default sink enabled).

Upon connect I get the following error in syslog:

[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in Unity/GNOME/XFCE on trusty/utopic

2014-06-26 Thread Cardamom
Hi to everybody,

I've tried what Chris suggested and actually the ubuntu-online-account
appeared to me (so the bug is partially solved), the problem is I still
cannot add PiCasa web publishing account in that dialogue window!

I've already set my google account in the online accounts and it's
perfectly working for the calendar and empathy IM, but when I try to set
in the ubuntu-online-account dialogue, by clicking on the menu show
accounts related with-- Shotwell I got the message there are no
available account provider related with this application (I'm attaching
a screenshot, sorry it's in Italian).

Tanks :)

[Bug 1310406] Re: [regression] Trusty kernel doesn't recognize GeForce 8600m GT nor with nouveau or nvidia drivers

2014-06-26 Thread Treviño
@Gianluca:

You can grab the latest bios version from http://is.gd/XqTq1B, but
unfortunately I did this in one of my friend's PC, and he still had a
Win partition, then I used that not to spend too time to figure out
another solution.

Although this laptop has a WinPhlash bios, then I think you can also use
safely a FreeDOS disk (or usb dongle) with the phlash16.exe utility and
the bios file (the ZD13813.wph, probalby renamed as BIOS.wph).

Looking around I've seen that there are multiple ways to obtain the
phlash16.exe utility, check this one mentioned on the Ubuntu wiki:
 -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DellBIOS#Obtaining_and_using_an_image_from_the_WinPhlash_utility

- Use Ubuntu mirrors.
- Ubuntu branding.
- Set default country to GB.
- Never ask mirror/suite, mark it untranslatable, and give it
  appropriate choices for Ubuntu.
- Pick CC.archive.ubuntu.com (for the country selected in the installer)
as the default mirror. For ports architectures (armel, powerpc) use
  ports.ubuntu.com instead.
- Drop the priorities of the country/mirror questions to medium if we're
installing from a CD that includes the base system.
- Support setting OVERRIDE_BASE_INSTALLABLE in the environment to force
choose-mirror to assume that the base system is installable.
- Skip mirror validation if the base system is installable and we're
installing from a mirror in the masterlist.
- Don't check if archive.ubuntu.com is reachable before asking for a
  proxy.
- Allow preseeding the default CC.archive.ubuntu.com setup by preseeding
mirror/http/mirror to CC.archive.ubuntu.com, and likewise for
  mirror/ftp/mirror.
- Force xgettext to use UTF-8 encoding when generating templates files,
  to cope with Côte d'Ivoire.
- Only default mirror/country to the value of debian-installer/country
if the latter has any mirrors; otherwise, fall through to defaulting
  to GB.
- Exclude all-countries mirrors such as ports.ubuntu.com when
determining whether there is a mirror in the country specified in
  debian-installer/country.
- If the selected country has no mirror (excluding all-countries
mirrors), then fall back to the default.

2014-06-26 Thread Aren Cambre
Public bug reported:

When I scroll in Chromium, especially when I use the mouse wheel, I
often get a garbled screen. The attached PNG is an example from Drudge

discontinuous on the left and right sides.

In case it matters, I am running Ubuntu as a guest OS in a VirtualBox
VM.

[Bug 1326003] Re: apparmor prevents libvirt from running pygrub

2014-06-26 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

On Ubuntu 14.04, while trying to run a VM using Xen + Libvirt I am not
able to boot it, because apparmor prevents libivrt from running pygrub:

- type=1400 audit(1401803854.411:30): apparmor=DENIED
+ type=1400 audit(1401803854.411:30): apparmor=DENIED
  operation=exec profile=/usr/sbin/libvirtd
  name=/usr/lib/xen-4.4/bin/pygrub pid=7237 comm=libvirtd
  requested_mask=x denied_mask=x fsuid=0 ouid=0

Setting libvirtd to complain only workarounds the issue.

  The installed versions are:
- ii apparmor
2.8.95~2430-0ubuntu5amd64 User-space
parser utility for AppArmor
- ii libvirt-bin

parser utility for AppArmor
+ ii libvirt-bin

+
+ SRU Justification (for Trusty):
+
+ Impact: Apparmor prevents execution of pygrub from libvirtd / libxl.
+ This prevents Xen PV guests being launched through libvirt.
+
+ Fix: Simple addition to the apparmor rules to allow execution of pygrub.
+
+ Testcase: Trying to launch a PV guest from libvirt (definition has
+ bootloader set to pygrub and is of type linux) will fail. It succeeds
+ with the change.

[Bug 1282868] Re: XFCE bar is visable over Mythfrontend on a fresh 14.04 install

2014-06-26 Thread Phil Brady
Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I had indeed changed the 2 files holding host name and rebooted and
that's when the visible xfce bar re-appeared in frontend.

'No changes made' was what was reported as a result of the futile attempt to
reset mythtv with:
  'sudo apt-get install mythtv'

I'm back with my spawned script workaround - see the 19 May 2014 entry
above.

Phil

[Bug 1332203] Re: autofs5-ldap regularly crashes after long periods of time

2014-06-26 Thread Paul Kilgo
Just to make sure all the information is together, I noticed earlier
there was a piece of a log message in that stack trace I posted. I tried
to see what I could do to piece together part of it:

  %s: lookup(ldap): query failed for search dn %s: %s

became

Invalid DN syntax: lookup(ldap): query failed for search dn %s: %s

I was unable to get the other two substitutions since it's difficult to
pull information out of the va_list. I have a suspicion that one of them
may be an empty string or NULL. That may all be site-specific problems,
but I grepped through the autofs5 code and saw that message corresponds
to line 396 of `modules/lookup_ldap.c`:

 395 error(logopt,
396 MODPREFIX query failed for search dn %s: %s,
 397   this-basedn, ldap_err2string(rv));

which is the error handling side of an ldap_search_s call:

 374 rv = ldap_search_s(ldap, this-basedn,
 375  scope, query, attrs, 0, result);

I don't have the debug symbols for lookup_ldap.so so I'm unable to go
much further than this.

In the meantime we are also running automount through strace (per bug
Bug #593603 but with `strace -f`) to see if we can figure out what that
log message is.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-06-26 Thread cschramm
The nopahandling does not include the plugin, while the deb version does
and only hasn't got the pulseaudio module unload. So it should be
identical to David Henningsson's PPA version.

Since the nopahandling branch did not work for zig59, I'm going for this
minimalistic approach. Although I'm not sure how pulseaudio could work
with other tools like gnome-bluetooth then, since they do not employ any
specific pulseaudio handling at all...

The syslog messages are probably a result of blueman competing with the
discovery module for the initialization of the devices. I'm not sure if
the source redirection (that's the rest the applet plugin is responsible
for) will even work if blueman cannot load the device module itself.
Looking at the source I do not think so, but then it should not make a
difference to just remove the module-bluetooth-discover unload or remove
the whole PulseAudio applet plugin...

[Bug 1334699] [NEW] mountroot_fail returns success when it has not changed the root found situation

2014-06-26 Thread Paul FitzPatrick
Public bug reported:

When booting and the root filesystem is not found, initramfs runs any
mountroot_fail hook scripts which have been registered. The mdadm
mountroot_fail script tries to assemble arrays and if mdadm --incremental
--run --scan or mdadm --assemble --scan --run return successfully it returns
with a 0 return value. This will cause the top level caller to exit any other
failure hooks and try to mount root again.

This seems good, but the mdadm executions will also return successfully
if they made no change to the situation. In my particular problem, the
kernel did not have access to the modules needed to see my hard drives.
Thus mdadm could not assemble them into the root device. However, since
the mountroot_fail function returned success (since mdadm had no
failures in assembling no devices) the initramfs continued to loop
forever trying to find root, running mountroot_fail in mdadm-functions,
repeat. It would never drop to am emergency shell so I could examine the
situation.

I did not discover my module issue until I added a check in the
mountroot_fail to see if the script had been run more than once. Below
is my code which I added before each return 0 in the original script,
but it is not suitable as a real solution.

if [ -f /tmp/mdadm_loop ] ; then
  return 1
fi
touch /tmp/mdadm_loop
return 0

Below is required info based on reporting instructions.

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found

2014-06-26 Thread DonQuichote
I got my machine too boot again:

* I Used the Super Grub Disk to boot into the existing installation on my laptop
* I checked /etc/mtab to see which device was mounted (in my case /dev/sda)
* then I ran sudo grub-install   --boot-directory=/boot   /dev/sda

For people using the Super Grub Disk: selecting the mysterious option
everything will enable you to select the existing boot configuration
on your hard disk. If you booted from an external CD drive, you can
remove it after booting.

The boot repair disk was not an option. It refuses to boot when burned
to CD, adding the repository failed (the command add-apt-repository does
not exist), and downloading the debs only gives a message enresolvable
dependencies, even when extra library debs were downloaded and tried
first.

[Bug 1334715] [NEW] ERROR: Unable to initialize display

2014-06-26 Thread Patrik Bubák
Public bug reported:

I went to the appearance settings by right-clicking on the desktop to
change the visibility of the launcher, have set the sensitivity, exited
after changes were made, after a few times of showing and hiding the
launcher Compiz crashed and the display couldn't be restored not even
after going into TTY and using --compiz replace. compiz-core has shown
an error that it was unable to initialize the display, so the only
option was to do a hard shutdown.
