[Bug 1325402] Re: Apps fail to install until you signout/signin to U1

2014-06-29 Thread Alberto Mardegan
The logs are misleading, since those critical warnings are actually harmless
(they've been removed in the latest version).
Reassigning to U1 for investigation.

[Bug 1267580] Re: [gestures] swipe is too sensitive, makes long-press difficult

2014-06-29 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
I guess other option would be to create our own UbunuFlickable that
inherits Flickable (or uses it as a root element) and where we would
have a Mouse area inside Flickable detecting mouse movements and
changing flickable interactive property accordingly. Though this should
be doable it also sounds just so much more hackish solution that I would
try first increasing the startDragDistance value.

[Bug 1267580] Re: [gestures] swipe is too sensitive, makes long-press difficult

2014-06-29 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
I agree this is one of the most annoying issues with our OS. This same
over sensitivity is present in Launcher as well when trying to long
press to organize items or to open the quicklist menu.

Do we already set QApplication::setStartDragDistance() explicitly or are
we using platform default value for drag threshold (whatever that value
in Ubuntu would be) ? Increasing this value should do the trick right?

[Bug 1335740] [NEW] K3b/mkisofs fails with Joliet directory tree should start at 286 but starts at 283.

2014-06-29 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

K3b is unable to write some Mixed CD projects. I keep getting the
following error:

mkisofs
---
19733
Warning: creating filesystem that does not conform to ISO-9660.
=== last message repeated 2 times. ===
/usr/bin/genisoimage: Warning: -C specified without -M: old session data

19733
Warning: creating filesystem that does not conform to ISO-9660.
I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings)
/usr/bin/genisoimage: Warning: -C specified without -M: old session data
will not be merged.
/usr/bin/genisoimage: Implementation botch: Joliet directory tree should
start at 286 but starts at 283.

The error appears when the data track is about to be written. The audio
track is written fine. I can reproduce this error (I produced various
faulty CDs trying to understand what the problem was).

I tried performing a simulation before burning the CD and the simulation
completes without any problem.

[Bug 1335738] [NEW] autostarts under gnome3, conflicts with gnome-shell

2014-06-29 Thread Daniel Gnoutcheff
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1) Install Gnome 3 (e.g. as part of Ubuntu GNOME, package
   'ubuntu-gnome-desktop')
2) Install some other desktop environment where light-locker is useful (e.g.
   xfce or lxde).
3) Install light-locker

Expected:
light-locker should only be autolaunched when the selected DE needs a
generic screen locker (e.g. xfce or lxde). Gnome 3 has its own screen
locker that's integrated with gnome-shell, so light-locker generally should
not be run under Gnome 3.

Actual:
1) light-locker is autolaunched when Gnome 3 is started.
2) I have my system configured to lock the screen when going to sleep.
However, when I resume from sleep, sometimes find that light-locker has
grabbed the keyboard and mouse. This prevents me from using
   gnome-shell's unlock screen.

SUMMARY: What happens is that the laptop often loses connection on a
local wireless network that is properly set up. Other devices are
connected to the same network without any issues even when the
connection drops on my device. Even my Android phone maintains the
  connection nicely.

This occurs with random devices and random networks and is an ongoing
issue that has lasted throughout many kernel cycles and needs to be
  addressed.

[Bug 1335736] [NEW] Gstreamer1.0-libva crashes and heats my laptop

2014-06-29 Thread 219yzz
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-30-generic x86_64. The
version of gstreamer1.0-libav:amd64 is 1.2.4-1~ubuntu1. I did not
install gstreamer1.0-libav:i386.

Before this problem emerges I was trying to recover a broken gnome
desktop, during which process, I first reinstalled all packages related
to display and then downgraded them by editing /etc/apt/preferences (
Pin: release a=trusty* ).

The old problem about gnome desktop was then solved. However, now I get
new problems with gstreamer1.0-libav:amd64.

Every time I boot into Ubuntu, from the result of dmesg, I will always
be able to find that libgstlibav.so crashed because of segfault. It is
right after this error message appears that my laptop will start to
heat, even if I do not launch any application.

The temperature of my laptop is now 20 centigrade degrees higher than
normal. And I have tried to uninstall the gstreamer1.0-libav package,
which does solve the heat problem.

However, the 'apt' package system thinks that gnome desktop depends on
gstreamer1.0-libav, although actually everything worked well without the
package. Thus I have to manually create fake packages to have gnome not
depend on it.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04

[Bug 1335594] Re: [To Be Filled By O.E.M. To Be Filled By O.E.M.] suspend/resume failure

2014-06-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Barry Drake, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at
the top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1335678] Re: KDE freezes when clicking start menu

2014-06-29 Thread Jan van de Wijdeven
** Description changed:

Normally, when I press the KDE start menu using the mouse cursor, I expect
the launcher menu to pop up. However, sometimes all the graphics freeze. I am
able to move the mouse cursor, but nothing responds to left or right click
input from the mouse. Only a restart of the Xorg server (ctrl-alt-backspace)
recovers the situation, after which I am able to continue using the computer.
- The occurances of this freeze are not very regular. Sometimes it happens 3-4
times a week, sometimes it does not happen for a month. I'm currently using
kubuntu 14.04, but I have seen this happen on earlier kubuntu releases. It is
not reliably reproducible as far as I can see. However, it always occurs when I
want to open the start menu.
+ The occurrences of this freeze are not very regular. Sometimes it happens 3-4

want to open the start menu.
As said, when the graphics freeze, the mouse cursor is still able to move.
I'm also able to switch to another terminal (e.g. tty4) for a command line
login.
+ I'm using the proprietary nvidia drivers. The desktop effects are disabled.

I cannot find anything in the logs that I've checked. I have attached a Xorg
log that was running during the freeze, and finishes with the restart of the x
server. The only line that stood out to me was:
[2526140.102] setversion 1.4 failed: Permission denied
This happens just around the time that the freeze occured. Googling for this
message did not help me any further

Around the time of freeze, dmesg shows:
  [2523802.675887] audit_printk_skb: 6 callbacks suppressed
  [2524530.823516] audit_printk_skb: 9 callbacks suppressed
[2526426.394799] init: tty4 main process ended, respawning
Restart of the server is at 2526426, the freeze occured about 3-4 minutes
earlier.

I don't know which other logs or settings to check.

  Further information:
-Hardware: Dell C521, AMD Athlon 64 X2, 3 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 9500GT
  -I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia cards

2014-06-29 Thread ariel cornejo
Minor heads-up:
Those using Christopher's PPA need to either hold the relevant package
versions, or tweak the APT policy:

$ cat /etc/apt/preferences.d/townsend-compiz
Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-townsend-compiz-nvidia-refresh-test
Pin-Priority: 600

Otherwise, the numerically-higher version of compiz in the Ubuntu repo
will replace the patched package.

[Bug 1335725] Re: dolphin cannot find a file

2014-06-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1335725/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1335725] [NEW] dolphin cannot find a file

2014-06-29 Thread Scott Moore
Public bug reported:

The find function is not working.

With a fresh install of Mint 17, Dolphin cannot find a simple file. For
example, I'm in my Documents folder and there is a file named "fu.txt".
It doesn't matter whether I search for "fu" or "fu.txt", I get the same
result, "No items found."

I previously experienced this problem with Kubuntu 14.04. Bug is
reproducible on both x64 desktop AMD machine and 32-bit Intel-based
laptop so it appears to be hardware and distro independent (unless it's
Ubuntu upline).

[Bug 1323772] Re: Unattended "apt-get dist-upgrade -qq --force-yes" on 14.04 fails on grub configuration.

2014-06-29 Thread nickg
This bug breaks any automated tooling in building AMsI using ubuntu.

to reproduce:

Launch in us-west-1 ami-c6bdba83 (found via https://cloud-
images.ubuntu.com/locator/ec2/)

This ami is a:

us-west-1 trusty 14.04 LTS amd64 hvm:ebs-ssd
20140607.1 ami-c6bdba83hvm

to reproduce

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo reboot # just because, likely not necessary

sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade (and various other -force-yes)

Now complains about /boot/grub/menu.lst being modified and in conflict
with update.

the fix is what peter.waller suggested in https://bugs.launchpad.net
/cloud-init/+bug/1309079?comments=all

before fist-upgrade do the following

sudo rm /boot/grub/menu.lst
sudo update-grub-legacy-ec2 -y
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

please advise.

thanks!

nickg

Re: [Bug 1311443] Re: switching input method is not reliable

2014-06-29 Thread Shu Hung (Koala)
Tried using the proposed gnome-settings-daemon package for a few days.
The input method switch problem didn't appear at all.
I think it's safe to say that it fixed this bug.

Hope I can see the proposed package on the main repository soon.

Thanks.

Despite lubuntu 13.10 has xscreensaver not installed by default, my monitor
blacks out after 10 minutes no matter the settings in xfce4-power-manager.
Even when a (music) video is desplayed, the monitor switches off and music
freezes to a consistent beep sound.

this makes playing an mp3 playlist or internet radio a nuisance than a
pleasure.

For those who are suffering for this 10min problem:
Please run this on command line:

xset q | grep -A 2 "Screen Saver:"

Does it say that timeout is 600 (or non-zero anyway)?
If that is the case, does it help, if you run the following command?

xset s off

If that helped, does the timeout 600 come back after reboot?

I tested it myself, and yes, timeout 600 comes back when you log in
again (on Xubuntu 13.10). A workaround is to add command "xset s off" as
an autostarted application in session settings (provided that resetting
to 600 does not happen automatically within session.)

I think PM should override xset setting at least, if you choose Mode >
Presentation.

And by overriding I mean that Xfce4 Power Manager should do "xset s off"
when it enters Presentation mode, and restore to previous screensaver
setting, when changing back to Normal mode.

I think it is not desirable to disable X screensaver by Xfce4 Power
Manager in Normal mode, since user may want to have some screensaver
activated, instead of just blanking the screen, according to that
timeout setting. Monitor power management will work regardless according
to DPMS settings (that Xfce4 Power Manager sets), if control stays in
the same virtual terminal.

Here is some information about X11 Screen Saver Extension:

As for the Presentation made, when it is used, and user locks screen,
xflock4 may change DPMS on, so after unlocking, the mode may not work,
unless re-enabled. It would be nice, if xfce4-power-manager could re-
enable Presentation Mode (like "xset -dpms ; xset s off" in shell)
automatically after screen locking stops, but this may be impossible at
least with current xflock4, because normally screen is still locked
after xflock4 exits.
