[Bug 1339862] [NEW] running two instances of thunderbird or firefox causes the main window to no longer refresh

2014-07-09 Thread launch...@awduggan.com
Public bug reported:

When running 2 instances of firefox OR 2 instances of thunderbird and I
go to the launcher to switch to one of the instances unity shows the 2
instances of the program in the main display area and then freezes the
main window. No screen refreshes are performed in that area afterwords.
I can go to the applications or switch between applications but the
screen no longer refreshes. The notification area refreshes and the
launcher area refreshes but the main window no longer refreshes.

Performing an alt tab to switch between applications displays the icons
to switch between but once a program is selected it does not redraw the
window for the program. The launcher area updates the program icon to
indicate which application is running.

killing running programs from the launcher does not seem to help either.

The problem is easily reproducible. I have been running unity since it
was first introduced in a LTS version on the same hardware and update my
system when a new LTS is released. This problem started occurring after
I installed 14.04 LTS. The problem only happens with firefox or
thunderbird but after the problem occurs killing those applications does
not fix the unity window issue.

[Bug 1332996] Re: QtCreator often halts for a minute

2014-07-09 Thread Alexandre Abreu
As Chris said, qmlplugindump selects the minimal plugin which doesnt
provide the native interface needed by oxide

https://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qtdeclarative/source/30d64fe0b74d848f4434e37c4971d24eeff39fa5:tools/qmlplugindump/main.cpp#L754

I started a branch there:

lp:~abreu-alexandre/oxide/qmlplugindump-crash

which delays a bit the issue, but in the end we might not be able to get
rid of it at this point with a simple fix,

[Bug 1265192] Re: Install/reinstall wipes out all/other partitions

2014-07-09 Thread Fred Palmer
LVM install wipes out entire drive.

With alternative installer in 12.04 it clearly said full drive install.
But with 14.04 LVM says easy partitioning so new users choose it and
erase entire drive.

[Bug 1339387] Re: Can't lookup DNS for akamaihd.net

2014-07-09 Thread Thomas Hood
The line "nameserver 127.0.1.1" in resolv.conf strongly suggests that
you are using NetworkManager which is running a local forwarding
nameserver — an instance of the dnsmasq program — listening at IP
address 127.0.1.1. NetworkManager is responsible for obtaining addresses
of nameservers and giving these addresses to this slave dnsmasq process.
Look carefully at your NetworkManager configuration.

[Bug 1339850] [NEW] AMD Radeon Graphic card under Ubuntu 12.04 lts 64bits

2014-07-09 Thread Mohammed MOUMEN
Public bug reported:

Hello all,

Please note that I really need help since I'm in very beginer level on Unix!
So, I had a system crush due to graphic card (which I nderstood very late) and
I re-install Ubunutu 12.04 lts 64 bits. when installation finished and laptop
reboots It says that ther is a problem with cryptswap1 (which I resolved :
caused by home folder crypting) and after that my laptop boots on low graphic
mode!!! I figured out how to boot by GRUB and tried to fix it! now I am on
stage in which I succeeded to boot normally, I followed some steps in some
video tutorial which are :

$sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get install fglrx
$sudo amdconfig --initial => here I got an error : amdconfig: No
supported adapters detected
I normally should install gksu after thie step and then reboot my laptop and
everything should okay :) but no It has to be difficult!!!
So any help please?

[Bug 1304754] Re: gccgo has issues when page size is not 4kB

2014-07-09 Thread Matt Bruzek
I installed the debian packages from the CI server
http://juju-ci.vapour.ws:8080/job/publish-revision/588/
My understanding is these deb packages were built with the PPA toolchain that
has the fix installed.

I destroyed the environment, rebooted the machine (for good measure) and
find that I still get an error.

https://pastebin.canonical.com/113210/

Are we sure this fixes the problem?

[Bug 1339848] [NEW] thumbnailer dbgsyms packages missing for universe binaries

2014-07-09 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Getting crashdb traces on their feet for ARM in utopic has revealed a
number of crashes failing to retrace due to missing dbgsym packages. At
least one of these failures is for thumbnailer, which has ddebs
available for libthumbnailer0, but not for the other binaries from this
source.

  http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/t/thumbnailer/

The build log shows that all the ddebs are being built, but not all of
them are making it to ddebs.u.c.

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/174196976/buildlog_ubuntu-utopic-
armhf.thumbnailer_1.1%2B14.04.20140401.1-0ubuntu2_UPLOADING.txt.gz

My best guess is that this is a problem due to the difference in
component between source and binary (thumbnailer source is in main; the
missing ddebs are for the packages in universe, thumbnailer-service and
qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-thumbnailer0.1).

Not sure if this is a bug in pkgbinarymangler, or on the ddeb-
retriever/publisher side. Quite possibly the latter, but I don't know
where to file a bug for that code.

Affect me too. Could not start in 13.10 either and WAS REPORTED THEN.

That is an important package. Please fix package with patch in
repository so we do not have to wait till 14.10 is out.

Even major packages in Ubuntu take over a year to patch... bad for
Ubuntu reputation.

Thanks.

I think you're always gonna have to choose the BT headset, because you just
mounted it.
If you're using ubuntu in sound settings you can set a2dp, provided its already
active(as in set through blueman or whatnot).
Also bear in mind that having a2dp means no mic on the headset, you have to use
the other one for that.

[Bug 1339842] [NEW] GlanceMirror item filters are hardcoded

2014-07-09 Thread Mike McCracken
Public bug reported:

The GlanceMirror class has a hard-coded filter for items to be
downloaded.

Anyone using it directly or via the script in
tools/sstream-mirror-glance to load images into an openstack cloud
will end up with a large number of images, at least one for each of
the available release series, and only x86_64 or amd64.

It is likely that users will want to be able to limit the images they
download to just one release, and may want to be able to download
images for other architectures, such as arm*.

The uploaded package simply exposes the existing filter mechanism as a
config option, using the previous hardcoded values as defaults.

This config option is used (currently it is just ignored by the
published simplestreams code) in an charm that is released on the
charm store for trusty, 'glance-simplestreams-sync'. Users of
OpenStack on Trusty are likely to want the option to control image
downloads via that charm.

[Test Case]

In an openstack cloud, with proper openstack env vars (OS_USERNAME,
OS_PASSWORD, OS_REGION etc), run the sstream-mirror-glance tool to

from the source tree top directory,

PYTHONPATH=. tools/sstream-mirror-glance --max=1 -v -v -v --output-dir \
images/ --cloud-name test_cloud --content-id test_content \
--keyring /usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-cloudimage-keyring.gpg \
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/releases/ streams/v1/index.json

verify that it downloads many images. This may take a while. If you
like, you can just check that it will download an image for an old
series like raring or quantal.

Clean up after it by removing the images/ directory.

Then with the update applied, from the source tree top dir:

PYTHONPATH=. tools/sstream-mirror-glance --max=1 -v -v -v --output-dir \
images/ --cloud-name test_cloud --content-id test_content \
--keyring /usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-cloudimage-keyring.gpg \
--item-filter="release=trusty" --item-filter="arch=arm64" \
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/releases/ streams/v1/index.json

and verify that it downloads only one matching image, trusty on arm64.

[Regression Potential]

This has very limited regression potential, because anyone relying on
the existing behavior will still get it because the previous behavior
is retained via defaults.

[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2014-07-09 Thread Ken McWilliams
The latest driver from nvidia which seems to be the superset of supported
drivers as 331.89 is 340.24.
Using this new driver I have not yet had a freeze. Will follow up tonight if
issue is resolved.

Install from this source: http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-the-
nvidia-340-24-driver-on-ubuntu-14-04-ubuntu-13-10-ubuntu-12-04-and-
derivative-systems/

I attempted a manual install from nvidia first by downloading the driver
here: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/76884/en-us

I was able to get the driver to install (manual installation) however
had low graphics issues and could not get the unity launcher to show, no
tool bar and the right click didn't work either. After reverting my
system and installing the PPA worked perfectly. I strongly recommend
using the PPA (fist link over manual installation).

Ensure that this PPA supports your graphics by checking the nvida link.

[Bug 1339820] Re: Preventing fraudulent flash memory

2014-07-09 Thread Seth Arnold
Do note that checking all 64 gigabytes of your new memory stick will
take more than six hours; it'll be over five and a half hours just to
write data to all blocks, let alone taking the time to read the data
back from the blocks.

The badblocks program is available for those who are suspicious of a
good deal...

[Bug 1321627] Re: Wrong WWAN value in saved-states if ofono 'Online' toggle fails

2014-07-09 Thread Tony Espy
So it looks like it's still possible to hit this bug even with the
updated urfkill from silo-0014 ( mentioned in comment #21 ).

Martti reported bug #1339794 while testing the pending Flight Mode UI
which seems to cause the modem to stop responding to Online/Offline
requests if FM is toggled too quickly. I traced this to urfkill not
handling InProgress DBus errors from ofono.

It also turns out that when this occurs, it can also end up leaving WWAN
soft=true, whereas all the remaining soft switches are false.

That said, the behavior of urfkill is much improved, and the basic FM UI
works.

[Bug 1339594] Re: usermod don't update the ACL in /media, when a uid has changed

2014-07-09 Thread Seth Arnold
This is the documented behaviour of changing a user's uid with the
usermod(8) tool:

The user's mailbox, and any files which the user owns and
which are located in the user's home directory will have
the file user ID changed automatically.

The ownership of files outside of the user's home
   directory must be fixed manually.

(To be honest I'm surprised usermod allows changing userids; it isn't an
operation to be undertaken lightly.)

For external media, probably umounting, logging out, logging in, and re-
mounting should have modified the acls for you.

Thanks

[Bug 1339794] Re: When toggling flight mode rapidly, cellular state gets stuck

2014-07-09 Thread Tony Espy
OK, please disregard my previous comment.

I found it easier to reproduce this bug from system settings vs. the
network indicator as I can just toggle the switch without having to open
the menu again to toggle the next time.

I was able to reproduce the problem you describe, but the culprit
appears to be urfkill and not the indicator/settings code.

Eventually the I managed to get the phone in a state where Flight-Mode
was disabled, however the modem was offline:

espy@shrike:% adb shell /usr/share/urfkill/scripts/flight-mode
flight-mode is: 0
espy@shrike:% adb shell /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-modems | grep Online
Online = 0

When I examine the syslog, I see the following errors reported:

Jul 9 17:56:54 ubuntu-phablet URfkill[936]: Could not set
Online property in oFono: GDBus.Error:org.ofono.Error.InProgress:

Note, this also occurs when toggling the device in and out of

displaying the Wi-Fi disconnected icon, and then never updates to 3G

[Bug 1339824] [NEW] Program crashes while encoding bigger slideshows

2014-07-09 Thread Timo Schneemann
Public bug reported:

I used this great program in Ubuntu 14.04 to make a slideshow. While
saving the film in hd the programm crashes always at the same point
regardless of the pictures i use. A smaller slideshow < 30 Slide in hd
went through without problems. I tried with different pictures on two
different computer with standard Ubuntu 14.04. Triying full-hd crashes
too, only earlier.

In Ubuntu 12.04 the same slideshow encodes without problems.

[Bug 1339794] Re: When toggling flight mode rapidly, cellular state gets stuck

2014-07-09 Thread Tony Espy
I've confirmed that this isn't an issue with urfkill.

The scenario I ran was to open a window and run the ofono-monitor
script:

$ adb shell /usr/share/ofono/scripts/monitor-ofono

...and then in another terminal use the urfkill flight-mode switch to
toggle the modem on/off/on/off...

The output of monitor-ofono looks fine to me and the modem is
continuously toggled Online/Offline/...

[Bug 1339820] [NEW] Preventing fraudulent flash memory

2014-07-09 Thread Jeb E.
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Do a simple Google search or eBay search for microSD or FLASH memory and
you'll quickly realize something: There are some great prices out there!
That is, until you actually get the memory device in your hands, test it
out, and it fails within a matter of hours. There needs to be something
out there, a common technology practice, to correctly and accurately
test these memory modules the first time the user plugs in the device in
order to prevent imminent data failure at an unexpected moment.

I have the idea for the GNOME Disk Utility in Ubuntu -- To accurately
test any new memory module installed with the consent of the user the
second the module is plugged in and allowed to gain ROOT access to the
filesystem. A simple test like this can save the general public tonnes
of money when it comes to buying memory, keep malicious codes from
entering our loved computer systems, and help educate us on how to
choose the correct memory technology, where to buy it, and what to look
for, etc.. Included in this idea I have is an optional form to report
certain module types into a larger database that is interconnected
between all computers using the GNOME Disk Utility and connected to the
internet for even faster emergency diagnosis with instant fraudulent
device recognition that will then push a warning to the user to remove
the module at once and a set of instructions on how to properly request
a refund for their counterfeit device.

Something like this has never before been integrated into mainstream
computing methods, and it's about time a smart, automated, self-
learning, user-teaching system like this is implemented.
