[Bug 1037662] Re: flashplugin-installer does not honor proxy settings

2014-07-14 Thread latimerio
I administer >100 hosts with 12.04LTS and 14.04LTS and the problem with
update-notifier-common not respecting proxy settings is very annoying.
I have set the proxy in /etc/apt/apt.d/95proxies in /etc/environment and with
gsettings as recommended in
http://askubuntu.com/questions/150210/how-do-i-set-systemwide-proxy-servers-in-xubuntu-lubuntu-or-ubuntu-studio
but still anacron reports the error.
I think the real bug is #1209146 as anacron does not run with the correct
environment settings.

[Bug 1341988] [NEW] [Dell Inspiron 11 - 3147] Brightness control does not work on this system

2014-07-14 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

CID: 201403-14888 Dell Inspiron 11 - 3147

The screen brightness cannot be controlled by the hotkey.

Steps:
1. Install 14.04 + update (3.13.0-30), boot to desktop
2. Try to control brightness with the hotkey
3. Try to control brightness with "Brightness and Lock" applet

Expected result:
* Brightness could be controlled by the hotkey or the applet

Actual result:
* Brightness level indicator changed along with the hotkey, but the brightness
won't be changed at all.

Certainly taking the xxx.map references from comment #2 above out of the
updmap.cfg was enough to get updmap-sys to work (when run implicitly) as
suggested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tex-

[Bug 1341944] Re: 32-Bit UEFI bootloader support needed

2014-07-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Did you run mktexlsr?

You can disable non-existent map entries using the option
  --syncwithtrees.

Running "updmap --syncwithtrees" gives instead

On Debian systems it is not recommendable to use --syncwithtrees.

(and some followup text that presumably makes no sense on ubuntu
either.)

[Bug 1341920] Re: cmake crashes when find paraview

2014-07-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Re: [Bug 1303736] Re: [SRU] Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2014-07-14 Thread Manuela
I have an up-to-date system, and I untoggled/toggled the setting.
What happens to me when I close the screen:
- screen goes black, (and I think screen is locked), computer doesn't
suspend

the 'xrandr --auto' workaround gets me back.

This issue affects me as well.
Setting IPv4 to Disabled, IPv6 to Ignore, and clicking Save... gives the error,

unfortunately passed away in March 2009. I have now sent a mail to the tex live

[Bug 1341944] [NEW] 32-Bit UEFI bootloader support needed

2014-07-14 Thread ClairelyClaire
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

As of now, Ubuntu and other major Linux distributions do not support the
use of a 32-bit EFI bootloader on UEFI machines. This has become
extremely problematic due to the popularity of Intel Atom-based tablets
and compact laptops. Atom-based devices are generally limited in storage
space (32GB or 64GB eMMC is common), and as a result these devices
almost universally ship with Windows 8.1 32-bit installed (winsxs
consumes a significant amount of storage space in order to support
32-bit binaries in a 64-bit environment). By design, UEFI must use the
same architecture used by the bootloader.

While most modern computers indeed use a 64-bit UEFI implementation due
to the fact that new computers generally ship with a 64-bit operating
system (be it OS X or Windows 8.1), Atom-based devices do *not* use a
64-bit operating system or UEFI implementation. This is by design.

Intel released a new Atom iteration (Bay Trail) in late 2013 and has
indicated that they will continue to develop and release Atom CPUs due
to consumer market demand. At the time of this filing there are a number
of Atom-based tablets and compact laptops/netbooks being actively sold
and marketed by major OEMs including Dell, HP, ASUS, and Acer. None of
these devices have 64-bit UEFI firmware. It is also important to note
that these Atom CPUs are 64-bit, but explicitly require a 32-bit UEFI
bootloader.

The current Linux kernel in Ubuntu 14.04 does support booting the 64-bit
signed kernel from a 32-bit Grub EFI bootloader. I can confirm this on
at least two 32-bit UEFI devices, the ASUS Transformer T100TA and the
Acer Aspire Switch 10. Unfortunately, the lack of official 32-bit EFI
bootloader support in Ubuntu makes accomplishing this far from trivial
and beyond the capacity of many users new to Linux as an alternative to
Microsoft Windows.

This bug is currently marked as a security vulnerability due to the fact
that as of now, it is necessary to compile Grub2 32-bit EFI manually in
order to boot Linux. This negates the digital signature check that
allows keeping Secure Boot enabled on modern UEFI-based machines.

Considering the above, it is very important to include a 32-bit UEFI
bootloader as an update to Grub2 in Trusty and all future releases of
Ubuntu.

[Bug 1318218] Re: SATA problems on MacBook Pro 11,1?

2014-07-14 Thread Nils Ole Tippenhauer
I found the following workaround:

as root:

echo "min_power" >
/sys/class/scsi_host/host4/link_power_management_policy

where host4 correspnds to my ata5 in the error message. Now the error
messages have stopped. I hope this helps with debugging

[Bug 1341935] [NEW] Screen is not being turned off after idle time

2014-07-14 Thread Mohammad Taha Jahangir
Public bug reported:

In brightness & lock settings, I set the `Turn off off when inactive
for` settings to 1 minute, but the screen remains on (an unlocked) for
ever. The bug is introduced in Ubuntu 14.04 and was not present in
13.04/13.10.

I tried `xscreensaver` and it works fine.

Purging/reinstalling `gnome-screensaver` did not fixed the issue.
Before uninstall `gnome-screensaver` was being executed at startup, but after
reinstall it does not starts automatically anymore. When I try to start it
manullay, It prints `screensaver already running in this session` and stops. I
can start it with `gksudo` but has no effect and screen remains on.

[Bug 1341925] [NEW] [Dell Inspiron 11 - 3147] System will stuck on reboot

2014-07-14 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

CID: 201403-14888 Dell Inspiron 11 - 3147

While rebooting this system, it will stuck on the Ubuntu splash screen, caps
lock LED will be not responding.
This issue happens right after 14.04 installation with USB stick.

If you press F1 right after the Ubuntu splash screen appears, you will see the
message indicating it's now rebooting:
* Deactivating swap... [OK]
* Unmounting local filesystems...  [OK]
* Will now restart

Steps:
1. Install 14.04, reboot to desktop
2. Try to reboot again

Expect result:
* System could be reboot normally

Actual result:
* It will stuck on the Ubuntu splash screen, the only to power it off is to
hold the power button

[Bug 1341920] [NEW] cmake crashes when find paraview

2014-07-14 Thread HuiJie Zhang
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

I'm developing an application, which based on paraview custom app mod. When
build it on ubuntu 14.04 LTS, I found that there are some bugs in
paraview-dev-4.0.1.
Here is the errors output by cmake:
***
/home/black/Projects/ParaFlow/build> cmake ../
CMake Error at /usr/lib/cmake/paraview/ParaViewTargets.cmake:1498 (message):
The imported target "ProcessShader" references the file

 "/usr/bin/vtkProcessShader"

but this file does not exist. Possible reasons include:

  * The file was deleted, renamed, or moved to another location.

  * An install or uninstall procedure did not complete successfully.

  * The installation package was faulty and contained

 "/usr/lib/cmake/paraview/ParaViewTargets.cmake"

but not all the files it references.

Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/lib/cmake/paraview/ParaViewConfig.cmake:36 (include)
  CMakeLists.txt:4 (find_package)

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
See also "/home/black/Projects/ParaFlow/build/CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log".
See also "/home/black/Projects/ParaFlow/build/CMakeFiles/CMakeError.log".
make: *** [cmake_check_build_system] Error 1
***
As the cmake says, this error is caused by the lack of some files, so we should
install the these files.
Meanwhile, some of the features in paraview's stable release were not enabled
in the debian releases.
While without these features, paraview will be not able to open some type of
files.

So I fixed it finally, and the attached file is a patch to resolve this
bug , the build progress was ok on my PC.

2014-07-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yeah image 119 only has Mir 0.4.0 so doesn't have the fix for this yet.
Wait a day or so I guess and the mir packages upgrade to 0.4.1.

[Bug 1341916] [NEW] Mythbuntu/Ubuntu 14.04 install nomodeset hangs kernel

2014-07-14 Thread Sean Mahrt
Public bug reported:

fresh install on Q35 intel (amd64) motherboard hangs with launch of
intel Xorg.

Mythbuntu/Ubuntu 14.04 iso boots are identical. Setting nomodeset
causes no improvement (nor does acpi tags).

A mini.iso install of 14.04 works fine with no extra kernel parameters.

After installation, tasksel to install mythbuntu frontend completes
successfully. Rebooting exhibits identical behavior when Xorg tries to
launch.

If I put in nomodeset, X launches OK, but I'm stuck at 800x600.

10.04 works fine.

Attached is 10.04 dmesg and xorg log.

Also is 14.04 nomodeset bootable.

Let me know what else you want me to poke at, I've got it set up so I
can take it down in pockets when it's not scheduled to record.

Same here. I think the VNC installer will work fine as long as you set the
initial user's password strong enough but I did not verify.

[Bug 1341890] Re: [X550LA, Realtek ALC3236, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2014-07-14 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
So you had sound before a few days ago?

It looks like a pulseaudio issue (no analog output profile). Try
resetting the user config and restarting pulse:

rm -r ~/.config/pulse*
pulseaudio -k

Probably duplicate of:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1321421

Try workaround command and mark duplicate if it works.
echo "options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0" | sudo tee
/etc/modprobe.d/fix-sound-intel97.conf

[Bug 1308112] Re: Scale should not select a window when clicking on an empty area

2014-07-14 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Scale selects a window also if the action has been cancelled
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Make sure the "Click on empty area" setting in scale plugin is set to
"Terminate Scale"
+
+ 1. Open some windows
+ 2. Press Super+W to initiate scale
+ 3. Highlight via keyboard or mouse a previously non-focused window
+ 4. Click on an empty area of your screen
+ 5. The scale should be terminated and the previously focused window should
still be the
+one with keyboard focus.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Regression potential is basically none here, we just made sure that the
mouse/keyboard-selected (hovered or highlighted) window is not focused of the
scaling action has been cancelled.
+
+ -
+
Make sure the "Click on empty area" setting in scale plugin is set to
"Show Desktop" or "Terminate Scale" (latter is better for testing)

  1) Trigger scale
- 2) Select via keyboard or mouse a previously not-focused window
+ 2) Select via keyboard or mouse a previously non-focused window
  3) Click on an empty area of your screen

  Expected result:
  4) Scale is terminated, and the scale-selected window is not focused (while
it's still focused the one it was before scaling)

  Actual result:
  4) Scale is terminated, but the scale-selected window is now focused
