[Bug 1350693] [NEW] no suspend nor lock on lid close though acpi_listen shows events
Public bug reported: Suspend on lid close has been working fine for me up until some recent (last month-ish) update. Now, when I close the lid, the screen goes dark, but the suspend-light doesn't blink, and when I open it is not locked and the laptop has obviously not suspended. This is on a Thinkpad X200 with Xubuntu 14.04, using xscreensaver for locking (had some trouble with light-locker). The xcfe power settings are to lock and suspend on lid close (regardless of plugged-in/battery). Manually doing alt-f2 and typing "xflock4" locks the screen as expected. Manually doing "sudo pm-suspend" suspends the laptop as expected. Manually clicking the xfce4 tray icon and clicking suspend also suspends the laptop as expected. Running "acpi_listen" and closing and opening the lid shows: button/lid LID close button/lid LID open Running "while sleep 1; do cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state ;done" similarly shows state: open state: closed state: closed state: open xfce4-power-manager claims it can suspend and sees the lid: $ LC_ALL=C xfce4-power-manager --dump # LC_ALL=C for English --- Xfce power manager version 1.2.0 With policykit support With network manager support With DPMS support --- Can suspend: True Can hibernate: True Can spin down hard disks: True Authorized to suspend: True Authorized to hibernate: False Authorized to shutdown: True Authorized to spin down hard disks: False Has battery: True Has brightness panel: True Has power button: True Has hibernate button: True Has sleep button: True Has LID: True ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xfce4-power-manager 1.2.0-3ubuntu4.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-32.57-generic 3.13.11.4 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-32-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Thu Jul 31 08:26:06 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-06-17 (408 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130423.1) SourcePackage: xfce4-power-manager UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-04-27 (94 days ago) ** Affects: xfce4-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1350693 Title: no suspend nor lock on lid close though acpi_listen shows events To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1350693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1338788] Re: startpar-bridge: does not notice, if upstart jobs are skipped
We don't use startpar in Ubuntu and don't plan to. It also does not get along with upstart Tasks. It's probably not worth trying to fix it in Ubuntu; we disabled its usage in sysvinit. startpar got split out into its own package in Debian/utopic-proposed, and will disappear from sysvinit as soon as the merge lands. [Bug 1349119] Re: [MIR] new dependencies for twisted
I reviewed python-service-identity version 1.0.0-0ubuntu1 as checked into utopic. This shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - python-service-identity provides RFC 6125 verification of dNSName, uniformResourceIdentifier, otherName types of subjectAltName extensions in x.509 certificates. - Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-python, python-all, python-setuptools, python-openssl, python-pyasn1-modules, python-characteristic, python-pytest, python3-all-dev, python3-setuptools, python3-openssl, python3-pyasn1-modules, python3-characteristic, python3-pytest - Uses OpenSSL - Does not itself use networking - Does not daemonize - May run as a system user - No maintainer scripts - No initscripts - No dbus services - No setuid files - No new binaries - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - Good test suite -- but does not run during build - No cron jobs - Build logs clean - No processes spawned - No memory management - No files written - No logging - No environment variables - No privileged portions of code - Extensive X.509 parsing Since the comparisons are made using python byte streams, I believe the classical nul character attack won't give incorrect results. - Does not itself do networking - No temporary files - No webkit - No javascript - Clean pyflakes - No PolicyKit This package is relatively new and performs relatively complex operations; however, the coding style is clear and concise, upstream has published security contacts and intends to not break published APIs. Please investigate why the tests report "Ran 0 tests in 0.000s". The tests look extensive, we should make sure they run at build time. Once the tests are addressed, security team ACK for promoting python-service-identity to main. [Bug 1350673] [NEW] System policy cache may become stale after a system image update
Public bug reported: The system policy cache, in /etc/apparmor.d/cache, may become stale if a certain sequence of events occur at the correct time. 1. Ubuntu developer modifies a profile and uploads a new apparmor package 2. New apparmor package, with an updated profile, is used to build a new system image 3. System policy cache on user's system gets regenerated 4. User applies image update After 4), the timestamps on the files in the user's system policy cache will be newer than the timestamps on system profiles. The parser will not be able to detect that it ought to regenerate the policy cache so it will load the cached, but stale, binary policies. This can result in unexpected AppArmor denials if, for example, the apparmor package update loosens the confinement. On the flip side, it can result in a looser than expected confinement if the update further restricts confinement. The fix is to update the apparmor.conf upstart job to call clear_cache() if the apparmor package has been updated since the last time the job was invoked. Additionally, we may want to update the parser itself to manually set the mtime of a generate binary cache file to the earliest mtime seen while compiling the profile (this includes the mtime of the profile itself as well as any #include's). ** Affects: apparmor (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Tyler Hicks (tyhicks) Status: Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1350673 Title: System policy cache may become stale after a system image update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1350673/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1349679] Re: Ubuntu 14.10 - No display with kernel 3.16 generic on HP dv6z 7000 (AMD APU + AMD GPU)
Ok, I tested with a fresh ISO from: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-desktop-next/daily-live/current/ downloaded a few hours ago. Booting off of a USB flash drive, it does successfully leave the screen on, set video mode to 1920x1080, and have a working framebuffer console. Unfortunately, it seems the graphics driver crashes every 5-10 seconds as indicated by kernel errors which show up on the console. It does start X (lightdm) but quickly crashes after 5-10 seconds of use, locks for several seconds, and then dumps an error to the console. This repeats every time I try to start lightdm, so I can't get in and test more. I took a video of the whole boot sequence until the error occurs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlgpN9xT2i0 I'm attaching some stills from this video for easy viewing - the first is the error that continuously appears in the kernel log and the second is the mess that prints out after lightdm crashes. ** Attachment added: "Error from kernel log that repeatedly prints" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1349679/+attachment/4166366/+files/vlcsnap-2014-07-30-23h08m10s61.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1349679 Title: Ubuntu 14.10 - No display with kernel 3.16 generic on HP dv6z 7000 (AMD APU + AMD GPU) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1349679/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1350666] [NEW] Time is not updated when Flight Mode is on
Public bug reported: I've noticed that time is updated neither on the welcome screen nor in the indicator if Flight Mode is on and time and date is set up to update automatically. This is what the Details" said just now when I tried to install ipython libjs-jquery-ui libjs-mathjax python-decorator python-simplegeneric python-zmq And no indication of what I am to do. [Bug 455024] Re: resize2fs: memory allocation failed while trying to resize
Googled up few related threads with solve mentioned adding swap. Even with 4G ram & 10G swap it didn't help me though for rather full 5.5T ext4 fs with big number of files. It seems that i could somewhat workaround it by specifying some middle fs size between one -M tried to reduce to and that of fs original size by calculating with bc #M_blocksize#*4/1024^2 and throwing few tenhs of gigs above that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455024 Title: resize2fs: memory allocation failed while trying to resize To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/e2fsprogs/+bug/455024/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You should also export > 'OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome', otherwise it won't work. Upgraded to LO 4.3 with the rpm's from the LO web site. (rpm -U.) Problem is recreated, as with every upgrade so far (comment 15). Most of the packages you mention were already installed.
