[Bug 1373968] [NEW] GUI does not work after update
Public bug reported: After logging into PC today and running the software updater, various system updates were downloaded. I was promped to restart, which I did. At reboot, the system would get as far as displaying the login screen. After I entered my password, the system appears to hang, with no disk activity. [Bug 1373966] [NEW] Trusted prompt sessions get stuck on screen blank
Public bug reported: When a trusted prompt session is open on top of the dash, and the screen is blanked (either via timeout or pressing the power button to turn it off), the app which is running in the prompt session disappears upon turning the screen back on. In some cases, this leaves the dash in a state where the user is unable to interact with it, and the only recourse is to reboot or run "restart unity8-dash" if the Terminal or an adb shell are available. In some cases, this also leaves the app which was in the trusted prompt session, running in the background, and it will not get terminated by the system. To reproduce: 1: Go to the YouTube scope. 2: Scroll to the bottom of the results and tap the "Log-in to YouTube" result entry. 3: When the online-accounts-ui opens up, turn the screen off. 4: Turn the screen back on and notice the login window for YouTube is gone, and the dash cannot be interacted with. So far, I've only been able to do this in the dash, either with the YouTube log-in, or with the app purchasing flow (which is slightly more complex to test). When reproducing this in ubuntu-system-settings-online-accounts, the new account login window goes away, but it is still possible to interact with the system-settings UI, so the user can recover by trying to add the account again, or just quitting system settings. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Status: New ** Tags: avengers rtm14 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1373966 Title: Trusted prompt sessions get stuck on screen blank To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1373966/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1347652] Re: [design] Sort Items in Launcher By Frequency Used
Quite nice idea but I see few problems in it. The person who reported the bug says that in current implementation it's a hard to find the item you're looking for. But in current implementation user has a freedom to organize the launcher items in any order he wants. And by moving for example all mostly used apps next to ubuntu button at the top user would always know where to find them. If we were to add the functionality that items are ordered based on the frequency in that case the order changes and user might have hard time to predict where to find the most used items. Another possible use case can be that user has one particular app he wants to have an easy and fast access to. For the sake of an example let say "Call an ambulance app". User uses it very rarely but when he does he wants to access it fast and wants to be sure where to find it. So he adds at the top of the launcher to be the first item in the list. Now if the proposed frequency rule is followed it would gradually move more and more bottom and user would have no idea where it is at any given time. Of course it would be possible to make this behaviour optional but we try not to bloat the system settings with optional component behaviours but rather have single holistic design to cover all main use cases. But there is definitely something in this idea and we'll keep it in mind when improving the launcher experience. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Triaged => Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Importance: Undecided => Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1347652 Title: [design] Sort Items in Launcher By Frequency Used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1347652/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

First, on the libreoffice website 4.3.2.2 still seems to be a pre- release, so I am a little surprised it was release to the ubuntu normal release ppa. Secondly, on Windows 64 bit I downloaded 4.3.2.2 from the LO website and it is OK. Thirdly, I thought I should download the linux deb 4.3.2.2 from the libreoffice website. I did, and it works. So after a very brief series of tests this appears to be an ubuntu release problem, not a libreoffice problem. I did, and it works. This is certainly interesting. Normally I would close the bug as NOTOURBUG here then (because it would be a distro bug only). I have an idea about the reason though, as I enabled mergedlibs on 4.3.2 and had to move some lib into it to get rid of circular deps: dbtools -- which sounds like it could cause this trouble. [Bug 1373946] [NEW] please sync fenics 1:1.4.0.1 from debian unstable
Public bug reported: This is an attempt to get FEniCS 1.4.0 working in the upcomming Ubuntu 14.10 release. Currently there is a mix of 1.3.0 and 1.4.0 packages of FEniCS in the Utopic archive: fiat 1.4.0-1: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fiat instant 1.4.0-1: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/instant ufl 1.4.0-1: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ufl dolfin 1.3.0+dfsg-2build2: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dolfin ffc 1.3.0-2: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ffc fenics 1:1.3.0.1: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fenics ffc 1.4.0-1 and dolfin 1.4.0+dfsg-4 (after lp:1373575) are in the proposed archive, so syncing fenics 1:1.4.0.1 from debian unstable is the final step to get a fully working FEniCS 1.4.0 in Utopic. [Bug 975950] Re: Dash - No indication what happens when you press enter
Completely agreed, ussually, Enter launches top left corner icon, whatever category it is. However, if the search is still running, the order may change and the user has no clue what will happen. It took me 10 hours to figure out what was going on, having to boot repeatedly the machine each time it hanged. The configuration I was using worked perfectly well on 12 LTS and the only change I made to fix the problem after the upgrade is the one I mentioned. The same thing happened on a second machine which was configured similarly. So I concluded that this is a situation that may occurr to others as well and it could save them some time if they knew a solution. I could not find relevant documentation about the parameter passwd_compat except that it appears related to Solaris. I suspect that this is a legacy configuration that has been preserved by our system administrators since the time we were using Sun machines in our network. Possibily this parameter creates some conflicts on release 14 that make it to hang the machine. Someone who knows what passwd_compat does should be able to figure out the cause. To replicate the problem it should be enough to configure nsswitch like this: passwd: compat passwd_compat: ldap After this, try doing add-user and the machine will hang. Thank you. prof.
