[Bug 1377809] Re: Wizard sometimes crashes after entering wireless passphrase

2014-10-05 Thread Brendan Donegan
** Description changed:

With recent images I'm finding that every so often when I run the
- wizard, after entering the wireless passphrase, unity8 freezes, hangs
- and then crashes before the keyboard can fully close. First the keyboard
- gets stuck near the bottom of the screen, then for a minute or so the
- screen is unresponsive and then unity8 restarts.
+ wizard, after entering the wireless passphrase, the wizard freezes,
+ hangs and then crashes before the keyboard can fully close. First the
+ keyboard gets stuck near the bottom of the screen, then for a minute or
+ so the screen is unresponsive and then everything restarts.

This is not easy to reproduce - you'd have to keep running the wizard
repeatedly and eventually you might catch it.

[Bug 1307746] Re: pitivi crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___pthread_mutex_lock()

2014-10-05 Thread Timo Jyrinki
As replied (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
desktop/2014-October/004558.html), I don't see indications of upstream
dropping maintenance of Pitivi, with a lot of activity in upstream code
repository lately. They have also switched away from the problematic
video sink that is apparently causing this crash.

That said, this bug would definitely need fixing in 14.04. The crasher
didn't exist at some point in January-February of 14.04 cycle, where I
remember using pitivi 0.93 successfully.

[Bug 1377806] [NEW] 'Music & Audio' category is slightly odd - should be 'Music & Video'?

[Bug 1377794] [NEW] please improve error handling

2014-10-05 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

It would be good if youtube-dl had better error handling. The script
can fetch from a number of sites, not only youtube. Obviously, it won't
be able to fetch from everywhere and it should do better in reporting
that to the user if it occurs.

[Bug 1273225] Re: php5enmod - priority is not set by argument

2014-10-05 Thread Brandon Checketts
I don't know where php5enmod documentation can be found. Googling it
brings up this bug report.

After digging through the bash source, I found that the way to set the
priority is to use a very specific format in the .ini file for the
module. This is what Ondrej mentioned above, but for those who can't
read shell script to easily, simply add a line to the ini file in the
format:

; priority=99

That must be a semicolon, space, then the word priority, equals sign,
then the desired priority number. This exact format is what the
get_priority() function above is looking for.

After adding that to the .ini file, simply run php5enmod with the module
name as the only argument. ie:

php5enmod tweaks

[Bug 348522] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 copies files to RAM (unsuitable for really large files)

2014-10-05 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I just copied a 1GB trusty live CD from my local computer to a davfs-
mounted webdrive. Previously, this would trigger this bug but I no
longer see it now, none of the gvfs-related processes were consuming
more than 40MB. I still run trusty, I verified the upstream patch is
indeed applied. So, yes, this is fixed. I believe you are seeing
something else. I suggest you open a new ticket with similar
information as was given here.

2014-10-05 Thread amjjawad
Hi,

Following with: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
quality/2014-October/005515.html

I have tried to follow the advice in comment #8 but this is what I get.

I am trying to boot from Lubuntu 14.04 LiveUSB

Note that: before reading this bug report and come across comment #8 ..
I was using:

quiet splash forcepae

without "--"

and everything was fine but my problem started after upgrading 14.04 to
14.04.1

Now, with "--", I am stuck with the attached message :(

[Bug 1377654] Re: [Dell Studio Desktop] Screen blank during log-in after suspend

2014-10-05 Thread Christian Heller
I installed the newest kernel as instructed. 'uname -a' now gives:
Linux chris-Studio-540 3.17.0-031700-generic #201410051635 SMP Sun Oct 5
20:36:18 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But the error still happens. I also repeatedly got back in but then
clicking onto the Ubuntu icons on the left did not do anything,
did not do anything, and I pushed the power-button
long for a restart.

When the 'screen goes blank' I first get a "HDMI no signal" and then the
blue light turns to orange (standby). I once heard the 'login-sound'
(drums) and I again clicked the up-key and entered my password blind.

Please let me know what I can test or send.

Thanks, Chris

[Bug 1377775] [NEW] virtualbox-dkms 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.6: virtualbox kernel module failed to build

2014-10-05 Thread deejoe
Public bug reported:

I was upgrading the hardware enablement stack and this popped up in the
crash reporter.

If the automatically-provided information isn't sufficient, I may try to
add more information. I'm not terribly fussed by this since kvm does
the trick for me with regard to virtual machines on this particular box,
but in case it's important to someone else (possibly even future me)
here we are.

ProblemType: Package

[Bug 1336555] Re: ovs-vswitchd segfault every 2 days

2014-10-05 Thread Matt Fischer
** Description changed:

- Hi I find that every 2 days or so I loose part of my cluster.
+ Hi I find that every 2 days or so I lose part of my cluster.

It seems that openvswitch is crashing... The only message left on syslog
  is as follows:

  syslog:Jul 1 22:52:32 blue-compute kernel: [530482.190688] ovs-
  vswitchd[1935]: segfault at 0 ip 00459110 sp 7fff85804758
  error 4 in ovs-vswitchd[40+133000]

And this is the last message. I'm unable to reboot gracefully. I have to
reset. (This can be because ceph not giving up also).

And I can see a lot of traffic going around in the network. There so
much traffic that some lowend routers/switches fail. Can be because
another problem (machines stalled because the ovs fault and others
trying to connect. Maybe it fails because much traffic). But I tell this
  for completeness.

  Now some info:

Linux version 3.13.0-30-generic (buildd@allspice) (gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu

  ovs-vsctl --version
  ovs-vsctl (Open vSwitch) 2.0.1

I can attach full logs but I think there's nothing useful because only
  one line referring the problem.

NOTE: restarting ovs does not solve the problem.

Hmm. I interpreted the comment to mean that backports to older kernels
should _also_ change handle_stripe6, but reading it again I suspect your
interpretation is probably the right one. But then I'm not sure, because
I don't really know the code either.

[Bug 1325752] Re: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened.

2014-10-05 Thread RJ Ryan
Hi -- to repeat what Jus said in #13 -- the Mixxx desktop shortcut runs:

$ pasuspender mixxx

Mixxx itself does not suspend Pulse. This is a workaround because pulse
does not support low-latency audio well and pulse also claims the user's
audio devices. I presume Pulse has improved in the 4 years since we
added this -- if it has we can remove this in our next release.

A workaround for users affected by this: Run Mixxx from a terminal or by
pressing Alt + F2 and typing mixxx in the box. This runs Mixxx without
changing Pulse at all.

2014-10-05 Thread Jim Raredon
I have the same behavior on 3 different PCs, all i7s. It often takes
40 seconds for results to show up in the dash during the first 5-10
minutes of use.

I keep switching open files with Ctrl + Tab very quickly and sometimes
after 5 switches, sometimes 10 or so, keyboard freezes.

ibus restart releases the keyboard!

[Bug 1377753] [NEW] ecryptfs get very slow and get back to normal with relogin

2014-10-05 Thread Bráulio
Public bug reported:

After some time using the system, the hd access get really slow. I found
the following error on dmesg:

[101970.983830] ecryptfs_decrypt_page: Error attempting to read lower page; rc
= [-4]
[101970.983834] ecryptfs_readpage: Error decrypting page; rc = [-4]

The only workaround I found is to logout and login again, so maybe it is
related to ecryptfs.

Using kubuntu 14.04, chromium-browser, skype, owncloud, konsole.

[Bug 1166442] Re: Elantech clickpad/touchpad lacks multitouch features.

2014-10-05 Thread Matt
I'm using an ASUS TP500L laptop running 14.04 with an Elantech touchpad.
Xinput lists it as an "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" initially and Unity
settings shows me the Touchpad area. However, it is entirely
unresponsive to any form of input. I have tried the fix in #137 and it
changes nothing. I have tried a couple of other dkms based fixes which
have the same effect as reloading the psmouse with a bare protocol,
giving me a generic PS/2 mouse and no multitouch or scrolling features.
Should I post any logs?
