The are ones I have successfully used only a few days before today. My panels are all black now and not pretty - why did you want me to change them and can they be changed back to colored and partly transparent? You are correct about using exit rather than the close button. But I don't want to launch programs from terminal, but from launchers on a panel. Is there not a way to just re-install the likely problematic packages, such as gnome-panel and a few related? On the username - yes it shows in terminal, but I had my old username and created another, and can enter into 14.04 using either - but I think they may be the same 'user' with two different names - but not sure. [Bug 1240940] Re: Need support for Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723]
I have two USB - one is inbuilt my laptop which uses driver rtl8723be, and another netgear USB adapter which uses driver rtl8192cu. Both of them are dropping the connection. [Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled
Not sure if there is easy way to repair your sistem. I would suggest to try clean install. You have log file full of warnings about missing programs. You have put many launchers on panel, bet programs does not exist for them anymore. This is what I see from log messages. You say that clicking on panel makes it crash/disappear. It could crash because panel fails to find program you try to launch. If so this is definetly bug as panel should not crash in such cases (I have no time to verify this). If you run programs from terminal and then close terminal it won't close only terminal, it will close all other programs you launched from terminal. Add ' &' at the end of programs names when you launch applications - 'gnome-panel --replace &' . And if you want close terminal don't do it by clicking close button but type 'exit' command in terminal. [Bug 1366546] Re: Ubuntu doesn't provide \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI for UEFI systems
Thank you for your reply. I tested a Toshiba Satellite NB10-A-10N as a user reported having trouble with a device of that model series (NB10t-A-101, the "t" in the NB10-A series seems to indicate touch capability). I just looked into the UEFI Specification Version 2.4 (Errata B) and found "3.4.1.1 Removable Media Boot Behavior": > On a removable media device it is not possible for the FilePath to contain a file name, including sub directories. FilePathList[0] is stored in non volatile memory in the platform and cannot possibly be kept in sync with a media that can change at any time. [...] >From my point of view these sentences state: The information which loader to boot from the supported filesystems is stored in the platform (simply speaking, an entry in the NVRAM of the mainboard) and not available when you take out the drive and try to boot it on another computer. > If FilePathList[0] points to a device that supports the EFI_SIMPLE_FILE_SYSTEM_PROTOCOL, then the system firmware will attempt to boot from a removable media FilePathList[0] by adding a default file name in the form \EFI\BOOT\BOOT{machine type short-name}.EFI. This describes that booting can be done through \EFI\BOOT\BOOT{arch}.EFI. I think we agree on that, I'm just adding it for completeness. I admit that I haven't read the entire spec, but I do think that there is a misunderstanding here regarding what removable media is or is not and that this section defines a fallback for usecases when information that is only stored in the platform is not available like installing Ubuntu to an external harddrive, which is still possible with UEFI. (This fallback should be deployed with the default Ubuntu installation as it would enable bootable external and internal installations, no matter if a firmware implementation is considered to be broken, crippled or non-standard.) I have seen many cases over at AskUbuntu that I would consider being occurrences of this issue in retrospect. We would need a tool (or testcase) that users can run to gather further data if a system follows the standard and boots so called NVRAM entries successfully or requires above method to execute a bootloader in UEFI mode that belongs to Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366546 Title: Ubuntu doesn't provide \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI for UEFI systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1366546/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1381930] Re: 7digital previews do not play in the scope
Adding a bug task for ubuntu-rest-scopes, since that is where the 7digital results come from (the Music page on the dash is just aggregating them). Using scopes-client, the data for the audio tracks in the previews looks like e.g: { "length":209, "source":"http://previews.7digital.com/clip/39903197?oauth_nonce=96292359&oauth_timestamp=1413518820&oauth_consumer_key=7d7e9ja2evm7&oauth_signature_method=HMAC-SHA1&oauth_version=1.0&oauth_signature=L0xPZSEB2DnM%2BJxrCZMFiv2gPms%3D";, "title":"01. County Line", } It looks like 7digital performs some user agent sniffing for these URLs, since requests for this URL with wget result in a 403 forbidden error, but successfully send the MP3 data if I use a blank or nonsense user agent. Presumably the in-dash playback is being blocked in a similar fashion. So to sum up, the questions are: 1. what UA does the dash send when it tries to play audio in previews? 2. If that UA is generic and shared by apps on other platforms, we should probably change it. 3. If that UA is unique to Ubuntu, then 7digital is explicitly blocking us and someone needs to get in contact with them to sort it out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1381930 Title: 7digital previews do not play in the scope To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-rest-scopes/+bug/1381930/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1244629] Re: SRU xfce4-weather-plugin, currently showing 'No Data'
Never mind. The latest version in git does indeed work. met.no changed their API from 1.1 to 1.2: http://api.yr.no/weatherapi/locationforecastlts/1.2/documentation 1.2 was implemented in git in xfce4-weather-plugin this summer, and met.no deprecated 1.1 about a week ago. My problem was that I wasn't installing the git version properly. The panel in xubuntu uses /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins/ as the plugin path, but autogen.sh only allows you to set the first part of the prefix: autogen.sh --prefix=/usr But that installs to /usr/lib/xfce4/panel/plugins/, which is missing the x86_64-linux-gnu part of the path. So, I manually copied the libweather.so and libweather.la files to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins, restarted the panel with xfce4-panel -r, and that did it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1244629 Title: SRU xfce4-weather-plugin, currently showing 'No Data' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-weather-plugin/+bug/1244629/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1340477] Re: The HUD doesn't support scaling on HiDPI monitors
Hello there. I use 14.04 on my HTPC as a Netflix (Chrome) and XBMC system (which works exceptionally well might I add). Due to it being a home theatre system, I ramp up the display scaling quite a lot (2.0). I noticed the HUD did not compliment display scaling, as mentioned in the bug report above. To date, this system has only been a regular, vanilla 14.04 instance with whatever updates that come down the main pipe. After finding this bug report, I enabled -proposed and did a full apt- get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. I pulled down Unity 7.2.3. Not only does the HUD now compliment the display scaling, but my mouse cursor is also adequately sized as well. Upon initial use, I have found no regressions or issues to report, however I admit I've only been booted into the system for a few moments following the update to 7.2.3. Given the HTPC gets a decent amount of use as we have no cable TV, I'll bookmark this report and comment if I run in to anything else. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and time. [Bug 1382335] [NEW] mdadm+lvm+cryptsetup+big disks: "bio too big device"
Public bug reported: I installed two new 6TB disks (WD Red) as RAID1 and pmove'd stuff over from old 5x3TB RAID10 array to it (actually the move is still in progress, going to take some 17 hours or so) and I get lots of these (4971 so far) in dmesg: [58693.807553] bio too big device dm-7 (664 > 8) [58694.037060] bio too big device dm-7 (1024 > 8) Looks like an old kernel bug that was supposedly fixed in 2012: https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/10/15/398 The LV that apparently triggered that is 3TB in size (90% full) and encrypted with cryptsetup. I don't know if this is reproducible but I can try - it'd just take some two days every time (starting with restoring 3TB from backup). Ubuntu 14.04.1, 3.13.0-37-generic x86_64 kernel, Intel DQ57TM mobo, LSI 9211-8i SAS/SATA controller. ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1382335 Title: mdadm+lvm+cryptsetup+big disks: "bio too big device" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1382335/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1382027] Re: Tracks without embedded art do not download the art
When I copy this track to my phone, it gets scanned by the mediascanner and the result from the scope looks like this: received result: category id=songs { "album": "Paris - CD1" "art": "image://albumart/artist=Supertramp&album=Paris%20-%20CD1" "artist": "Supertramp" "dnd_uri": "file:///home/phablet/Music/supertramp_1979_paris_cd1_School.mp3" "duration": 321 "title": "School" "track-number": 1 "uri": "file:///home/phablet/Music/supertramp_1979_paris_cd1_School.mp3" } So the online album art service is being invoked correctly, but it doesn't return any art for the ("Supertramp", "Paris - CD1") pair. If the file's tags are corrected to use the actual album title of "Paris", then art is displayed correctly, so this is not a general problem of no tracks displaying online art. Can I ask where the file came from or how it was tagged? Was the " - CD1" suffix manually entered in, or is there some tagger that adds it automatically? ** Changed in: unity-scope-mediascanner (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1382027 Title: Tracks without embedded art do not download the art To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scope-mediascanner/+bug/1382027/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1382190] Re: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries
So I've looked at this and I think it needs to be a won't-fix as it stands, but I want your opinion first because there's something else MAAS should be doing. LXCs have never been supported as a first class citizen in MAAS, so the fact that a non-MAAS node obtained an IP with a DNS entry is a little bit of a side effect of how it was previously implemented. The DNS entries from dynamically assigned DHCP IPs are dangerous because they can go out of date at any time and MAAS has no way to track that in a timely fashion, and in fact this is exactly what was happening in OIL which pushed us to doing the static IP solution. MAAS has an API to request an IP address separately to whatever the nodes may get assigned. It was intended that juju-created LXCs use this API to get an IP and configure the LXC network interface(s) appropriately. What's missing from MAAS's API is that the IPs obtained on the API don't have the option of being given a DNS entry. If we fix that, and then juju starts using the API, everything will be working perfectly. Let me know what you think. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1382190 Title: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1382190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
