This bug is similar to bug 1362388 (its sister model),
could be fixed by adding a kernel parameter: acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2012\"

2014-10-20 Thread Anil Shashikumar Belur
Updating sample code, test script for reproducer (included in
ubug_1382340.tar.gz), if this helps. Here are the steps to run /
reproduce the issue:

1. untar ubug_1382340.tar.gz and cd ./ubug_1382340
2. make
2. sudo ./test.sh===> run this heavy network load.

[Bug 1312421] Re: Cannot rebuild dahdi-dkms (1:2.5.0.1+dfsg-1ubuntu3) : unknown field ‘drv_attrs’ specified in initializer .drv_attrs = xpp_attrs

2014-10-20 Thread Gino
This is still broken in 14.10 :-(
Additionally, kernel 3.15 deprecated interruptible_sleep_on_timeout, so now in
14.10, to get dahdi to work, in addition to the above patch for xbus,
pciradio.c also needs to be patched as per here:

https://github.com/pld-linux/dahdi-linux/blob/master/linux-3.15.patch

Re: [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-10-20 Thread Wouter van der Graaf
Hi Dariusz,

I have a Dell XPS 12-9Q33 and two U2414Hb Dell displays, all DP 1.2 MST
compatible.

Using your instructions, I installed the new kernel and intel driver.

Daisy chaining the two displays to my laptop DOES NOT work. With this
kernel no external display works anymore.

Moreover, my wireless network controller is now no longer working. Even
though it's listed in lspci as a 'Network controller: Intel Corporation
Wireless 7260 (rev 6b)', rfkill list shows nothing.

Also, the touchscreen of my laptop stopped working with this kernel.
It's no longer in the output of xinput list, which should show
'ATML1000:00 03EB:842F'.

Lastly, my brightness keys don't work anymore.

When I reboot with official kernel 3.13, everything works again. Of
course, except for MST.

Can you perhaps explain what's going on?

Kind regards,

Wouter

[Bug 1381383] Re: Vm destroyed when created virsh create without --autodestroy

2014-10-20 Thread Tenho Tuhkala
This is not really about virt-install nor virt-manager (other listed virtual
machines are created with it), it's about how virsh handles vm creation from
xml. With define -command it stays at it should, with create -command it stays
only when virsh is connected and/or vm is running, which behaviour isn't
described anywhere and thus I considered as a bug in virsh.
As you can see from grep, all other vm got in on_poweroff -tag destroy as well
and they stay persistent because they got a appropriate flag set. virsh create
doesn't set it as it should according to the manual, or there's misinformation
about this in manual.

[Bug 1307746] Re: [SRU] pitivi crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___pthread_mutex_lock()

2014-10-20 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
On a clean 14.04.1 I have successfully installed and run pitivi
0.93-3ubuntu0.1 from trusty-proposed. As regards whether the crash bug
is fixed, I refer to my previous test with the version from Timo's PPA
(comment #18). (Like Leo I have upgraded the 14.04 installation where
pitivi crashed to 14.10.)

[Bug 1382991] Re: ubiquity install alongside points to wrong device letter

2014-10-20 Thread sudodus
I can't rely on "Install alongside", but it is obvious to me that this
option is very popular, and most of us want to keep it to make things
simple for newcomers.

In order to increase the chances to succeed, I think that at least

*There should be an option to select the target drive*

packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

[Bug 1383555] [NEW] ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00queue_flush_queue: Warning - Queue 0 failed to flush

2014-10-20 Thread Kim Tyler
Public bug reported:

Doesn't happen immediately after kernel reboot. Will eventually cause
wireless connection to fail, and cause computer to lock up. Need to use
REISUB to reboot, as all other method frozen. Fills up logs
with above messages many times per minute. Originally happened with
precise pangolin repeatedly from boot, but I did fresh install of
trusty, and now is happening after a while from reboot. (this
particular instance was 1 day or so after reboot)

2014-10-20 Thread Kim Tyler
I originally marked this as a bug in precise, but said that since it
seemed to fixed in later version of trusty, I wasn't going to follow up,
and it was closed. It is now an issue again, annoying because of the
logs filling up, critical because of the lockup of the entire PC.

[Bug 1243484]

2014-10-20 Thread christoph mueller
hi tommy27

as i already told, Brother_MFC-J6510DW is a strange printer! paper feed
an ADF is rotated by 90° against each other. but only the printer should
be interested in that.

KDE printing works.

what is the difference from LO and KDE printing? they use the same
printer driver, cups, ...

i guess the problem could be somewhere in LO between prepare the print
and sending it to cups?

can i do something more?
thanks

[Bug 1383539] [NEW] phased update support does not give idempotent answer for each (machine, update)

2014-10-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The phased update implementation in ./systemimage/helpers.py does:

def phased_percentage(*, reset=False):
global _pp_cache
if _pp_cache is None:
with open(UNIQUE_MACHINE_ID_FILE, 'rb') as fp:
data = fp.read()
now = str(time.time()).encode('us-ascii')
r = random.Random()
r.seed(data + now)
_pp_cache = r.randint(0, 100)
try:
return _pp_cache
finally:
if reset:
_pp_cache = None

Since the current time is used as a seed, this function will return a different
value each time it's called.

The phased update model requires that, for each given machine and each
given update, the calculated percentage persists. With this
implementation, since the seed is different for each invocation and the
result is not cached, phasing will happen much more quickly than
intended.

system-image should avoid using the time as a seed, and instead use a
predictable (but well-distributed) seed of the machine ID plus an image
identifier (perhaps full channel name + image ID).

 Status: New

[Bug 434476]

2014-10-20 Thread Bastien Nocera
I'll add that xdg-screensaver is an unmitigated piece of crap. It
reimplements the bugs that using D-Bus for inhibition is supposed to fix
(namely that if the app disappears, the screensaver shouldn't be left
inhibited).

You could add D-Bus support to xscreensaver without linking to a D-Bus
implementation. Look at the SDL2 code, it implements the same inhibition
mechanism that Firefox and VLC implement through a dlopen()'ed
libdbus.so.

However, I would recommend that you use a modern screensaver if you
expect modern features.

Ah, just noticed ancient https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

For some reason i thought that XSS not only had it, but also was the first one
to implement it. But it seems that its developer isn't too keen on this new
"kit & bus" fashion.
So now one has to use those abominations just to have a screensaver ? Then
`xdg-screensaver` abstraction should have, probably, been used instead of
direct dbus calls. It supports both dbus and console commands.

Otherwise https://launchpad.net/caffeine shim is the only cross-DE
option, it seems.

I doubt that anyone is going to have time to work on it. You've already
looked up the details so the next step for you is creating a bug for the
new change and providing a patch. :-)

[Bug 1314367] Re: Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared

2014-10-20 Thread johntosh
My 14.04 system also suffers from a variation of this problem. FWIW, I
find that the "flicker problem" is tied to the PERFORMANCE LEVEL of my
GTX 275. If I watch the GPU from the PowerMizer panel of the "NVIDIA X
Server Settings" application, the "flicker problem" appears when the
Performance Level drops to 0. At Performance Level 1 or 2, the problem
disappears.

By "flicker problem", I mean that the screen erratically switches
between a partially-updated display and a fully-updated display. All
applications that don't "sufficiently challenge" the GPU, and cause the
nVidia Performance Level to climb, suffer from this problem! However, if
I run one of my high frame-rate OpenGL programs, the problem disappears,
until I exit the application, and give the nVidia driver stack a chance
to settle back down to Performance Level 0.

BTW, none of the Compiz tweaks mentioned in this thread, or any other,
has helped my situation, only the Performance Level matters. I'm now
running nVidia Driver version 340.46, but the problem existed when I was
running 331. My system is an "old" LGA 1366 Quad Core i7 with 12GB of
memory, and a GTX 275.

[Bug 1307746] Re: [SRU] pitivi crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___pthread_mutex_lock()

2014-10-20 Thread Leo Milano
Hi Chris

Thank you for uploading the package. Unfortunately, I already upgraded
the machine where I had the crash to Utopic. I tried on another machine
running trusty, and both before and after enabling proposed (and
therefore upgrading to 0.93-3ubuntu0.1 ), pitivi loads just fine. So,
all I can say on my end is that I don't see any obvious regression. I
hope others can test this fix!

Cheers
Leo

[Bug 1383523] [NEW] system won't reboot after install

2014-10-20 Thread Cyrus Harmon
Public bug reported:

After (successfully, hopefully) installing the utopic release candidate
on a new system, the OS said it was rebooting but then just hung.
Pressing ctl-alt-delete reports failing in "Starting store software
rfkill state" and "Starting Store Sound Card State".

It's possible that this is due to the funky new hardware I'm using,
haswell-e on an X99-deluxe motherboard. Happy to try track this down
further if it's of interest.

[Bug 1300367] Re: rsync 3.1.0 and 3.0.9 incompatibility

2014-10-20 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for the patch!

Unfortunately using rsync's internal zlib violates policy section 4.13
(see in particular footnote 31 for rationale):
http://people.canonical.com/~cjwatson/ubuntu-policy/policy.html/ch-
source.html#s-embeddedfiles

For example: if a security vulnerability were found in zlib, then the
security team expects to be able to fix it once in the archive. If we
used rsync's internal zlib, then it would escape being fixed, and this
would be dangerous.

However, from the changelog I see the Debian does the same thing:

  * revert to using included zlib as there have been numerous reports of failed
transfers when using -z with the separate zlib.

So perhaps we need to make an exception in this case.

To update Trusty, we need to follow the SRU procedure documented here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure and submit the
patch for sponsoring as described in the link from there. Please could
you see how far you can get with this?

[Bug 1383512] [NEW] SSL 3.0 is vulnerable, browser should not use

2014-10-20 Thread Matt Coates
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Release:14.04.1
Version: 37.0.2062.120-0ubuntu0.14.04.1~pkg1049

The Chromium browser requires an additonal flag to be specified at
invocation to avoid falling back kto SSL 3.0 which is a vulnerable
protocol. This option/flag should be specified by default. SSL 3.0 is
slated to be removed in the future, so the impact of this change is
inevitable.

More detail at:
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/577193

Browser reconfiguration info can be found at:
http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/poodle-some-tips-for-turning-off-ssl-3-0/

For Ubuntu, the attached patch should be sufficient.
(chromium_poodle.patch)

-Matt
