[Bug 1388403] [NEW] Should say missing archive rather than E_FAIL when some files are missing on multi-split archive files

2014-11-01 Thread Park Shinjo
Public bug reported:

When I extract multi-split archive with 7z, and if some files are

2014-11-01 Thread Erick Brunzell
OK, finally got to this. I saved ps aux to white.text and I'll attach
that as well as other applicable logs. I'll try to read them more
closely when I'm in a more comfortable environment for my tired old
eyes. You should probably know that the live USB booted directly to the
install dialog after applying the debug-ubiquity boot parameter so I
clicked on Quit to get to the live desktop before actually starting the
installation process.

[Bug 1388408] [NEW] remains of ubiquilty stay in Ubuntu 14.04.1 after instillation (Install RELEASE application in general menus)

2014-11-01 Thread feren OS Linux
Public bug reported:

Install RELEASE stays in the application launcher after installing
Ubuntu to my external HDD. It isnt anything really serious, I can easily
remove it from the menu, but a corrupt remains of the installer after
the process shouldnt really be staying in the Ubuntu instillation. I
have a Windows 8.1 (UEFI) computer on the Hard Drive and this Ubuntu
install on the external HDD. I configured the BIOS to boot into legacy
OS`s and the OS is the normal Ubuntu (No respins.) with the other
Desktops installed onto it with the bug across all the menus. Please fix
it when you have time...

[Bug 1388409] [NEW] Lubuntu forgets xinput commands upon sleep mode

2014-11-01 Thread Dale
Public bug reported:

Unable to find a way to permenately turn off synaptics touchpad I've
learned to open a terminal upon logon and issue the command

xinput set-prop 00 Device Enabled 0

When the computer drops into sleep mode, and upon returning the settings
are lost and must be re-entered upon every logon.

The prefered way for me would to be turn off the touchpad entirely
before any ttys are available and/or logon prompt. Unfortunately it
does not appear Ubuntu honors the common startup directories or init
scripts any longer and the documentation I've read does not appeart to
provide an answer.

[Bug 1385926] Re: [Dell Latitude D400] Black screen on resume after suspend by lid close persists in Xubuntu 14.10

2014-11-01 Thread bobbaer
confirming this affect me too:

uname -a
Linux karoushi 3.16.0-24-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 28 13:07:32 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Description:Ubuntu 14.10

suspend itself works fine
Laptop: SONY VAIO VPCCB3S1E (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, with
additional [AMD/ATI] Whistler [Radeon HD 6630M/6650M/6750M/7670M/7690M] )

using XFCE POwerManager  with xscreensaver.

* system upgraded from 14.01
* created new user to exclude possibility of old configuration files messing up
something to no avail
* to make suspend work changes in /etc/systemd/logind.conf
HandlePowerKey=ignore
HandleSuspendKey=ignore
HandleHibernateKey=ignore
HandleLidSwitch=ignore
* Fixes didn't work in 14.04* already

Workarounds as described either
1. type blind, open terminal with shortcut and enter xrandr --auto or
2. suspend before closing the lid (e.g. powerbutton)

Also: happens only with internal Monitor, if external is
connected (here HDMI), only LVDS remains black.

Tried with upstream Kernel (daily, had issues with rc2)
linux-image-3.18.0-999-generic_3.18.0-999.201410290205_amd64.deb
but problem still exists.

[Bug 1388412] [NEW] Not all the screen displays

2014-11-01 Thread Ayeshah
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I recently upgraded to Trusty Tahr 14.04 and feel I may have a slight
issue with the screen size. Such an example would be like dialogue
boxes or messages from certain softwares or programs don't completely
display.

It would be nice to use System Testing to maybe work out how to deal
with the screen size but I'm unable to proceed past the start page -
where it requires you to press continue, but I'm guessing the button is
at the far bottom of the dialogue box which I cannot press and there's
no way to scroll or tab to the button.

Any answers or help is much appreciated!

I'm hoping I've reported this minor issue to the right place.

[Bug 1388416] [NEW] rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - vendor request * failed for offset * with error -110

2014-11-01 Thread Adam Hallgat
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 14.10 (64bit) the following error happens in every few
days:

Suddenly the network connection disconnects and locks up every process
which is connected to networking. The only way is to reset the whole
computer.

If i log in to tty i get the following error in every half minutes or
so:

ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - vendor request 0x07
failed for offset 0x3090 with error -110

Also i get some other messages about some application being blocked for
more than 120 seconds. The applications are the following:

- network manager,
- wpa_supplicant,
- dropbox,
- dns res~ver, dns resolver (for some this is mentioned twice like this)
- kworker

I use Ubuntu on a Nec Versa One (M370) laptop since Ubuntu 9.10. I have
always had similar driver issues with my built-in wireless card. The
module which throws the error changed though.

From 9.10 to 13.* i got the same error from the rt73usb module.
Now I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 (64bit) and now i get this error from the rt2x00usb
module. (this is used by the rt73usb mod).

This bug affects me as long as i have been using Ubuntu. I guess this
driver issue might depend on the manufacturer, and hard to fix, but at
least I would like to see a workaround to somehow solve this issue
without rebooting.

Now I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 (64bit) and now i get this error from the
rt2x00usb module. (this is used by the rt73usb mod).

This bug affects me as long as i have been using Ubuntu. I guess this
driver issue might depend on the manufacturer, and hard to fix, but at
least I would like to see a workaround to somehow solve this issue
  without rebooting.

Updated BIOS - no imporvement.
Switched to Gnome - I have my wallpaper back, and no sign of issues so far.
So, is it a Unity thing?

The backend is connecting correctly to database via localhost.

user:mythtv
pass:mythtv
port 3306.
I usually change the default after all is working.

This is an upstream filing of my launchpad.net report you can find here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfwm4/+bug/1387533

Quote:

I discovered an intermittent glitch where if a window is edge snapped,
the maximize button will not change to the restore button and the
following behavior is experienced:

1) Left clicking on either the minimize or close buttons
successfully executes the respective function.

2) Left clicking on the maximize button appears to do nothing.

3) Right clicking on the maximize button executes the maximize function.

There is a possibility that this glitch may be tied to Thunar in some
way because, if my memory serves me right on these few and far between
occurrences, it is usually Thunar windows that exhibit this behavior.
Since the glitch is related to window decorations and affects edge
snapped windows only, I filed this for xfwm4.

If a misbehaving edge-snapped window is dragged away from the edge, the
same window can then be successfully maximized with the function's
button by left clicking. Snapping the window again may relieve the
condition temporarily or it may continue. I will watch for the result of
that if and when there is a next time.

Thanks for all your efforts,
Mark

This is normal behaviour and not a bug.

Tiling is using partial maximization, ie either maximized vertically
alone if tiled on a side, or maximized horizontally if maximized on the
top or bottom of the screen.

Using either middle or right button also control partial maximization,
so you can flip or back to the original size/position.

It's easier to experiment than to explain, so try the same button on a
windows which is not tiled.

[Bug 921208] Re: win7/x64 installer hangs on startup with 0x0000005d.

2014-11-01 Thread Michael Tokarev
I'm not sure I follow. I tried to answer to the last inquiry in this
bugreport, Eduardo asked if someone can confirm that +nx solves this
problem (it doesn't). Now you say with certainity that it is a bug in
TCG (if it is a bug, why only uncertain guesses are present in this
bugreport?), mentions some experimental patch on the mailing list
without providing any details (maybe you suggest trying ALL patches with
the word experimental in them?), and also say tha I _should_ have a
look at it -- why should I? I never tried to run win7 64bit in tcg
until yesterday, and yesterday I tried it just because someone reported
a problem with it, pointing to this bugreport...

Thanks,

/mjt

[Bug 1388430] [NEW] nvidia-settings closes when pressing 'Apply' button, but changes aren't applied

2014-11-01 Thread Roberto González Correa
Public bug reported:

1. I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bits) on my machine,
which has an Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card. When I try to change the screen
resolution, changes are not being applied and nvidia-settings is closing when I
press the 'Apply' button.
2. I run nvidia-settings in a terminal, and I got the following error message
after pressing the 'Apply' button (see the attached file):

The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 528 error_code 2 request_code 158 minor_code 25)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

3. This seems to be a duplicate of Bug #1273652.
4. I contacted Nvidia custom care support, and they suggested me to try the
latest driver version (304.123). Unfortunately, when I checked
nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 at Launchpad, I found it's only available for
Utopic, Precise, and Vivid (indeed, it doesn't appear in my Additional Drivers
wizard).

If you help me to install version 304.123 on my system, I'll give Nvidia
Linux maintainers all the feedback they are requesting from me, and I'll
be in a better condition to colaborate with you to solve this issue
(installation instructions provided by Nvidia website are hard for me to
follow). Feel free to e-mail me if you think I can help in any way.

5. You can find additional information about similar issues in the
following links:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/412181/nvidia-settings-received-an-x-window-system-error-error-was-badvalue-intege
http://askubuntu.com/questions/452030/nvidia-settings-does-not-work-since-upgrade-to-14-04
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=76073

6. System settings:

OS version: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64 bits)
Nvidia driver version: 304.117
nvidia-settings version: 331.20-0ubuntu8

P.S: apparently, this is not the first time a bug like this affects
nvidia-settings on Ubuntu. If you read the comments at the second and
third links in point 5 (above), there is people who solved the issue
after they installed an nvidia-settings package which version number
matches the driver one (or vice-versa).

localhost or 127.0.0.1 in this case host= 'localhost'.
The backend is connecting correctly to database via localhost.
The default MySQL connection with mythbackend is usually:
 DB name: mythconvrg
 user:mythtv
 pass:mythtv
 port 3306.
I usually change the default after all is working.

[Bug 1388177] Re: Scope sends me off to Online Accounts to sign in with U1, never returns

2014-11-01 Thread Rodney Dawes
What version of the unity-scope-click deb is installed in that image?

Also, you might want to build the emulator from a different channel. It
seems like you're using the utopic-proposed channel, and as utopic is
now released, it's not likely that any new changes will be getting
backported and landed to utopic. I'm not sure if any ubuntu-rtm images
are being built for the emulator, but you might want to switch to one of
these channels:

ubuntu-touch/vivid-proposed (devel-proposed now is an alias to this channel as
well)
ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed

The former will see the most updates in the coming months, and the
latter is pretty well frozen now, but is getting critical bug fixes.

[Bug 1387211] Re: release update to 14.10 can not install ubuntu-desktop

2014-11-01 Thread Willem Hobers
I tried to install ubuntu-desktop. Did not work. Below the messages. They are
in Dutch.
A rough translation: some packages could not be installed etc.
The following packages have unmet requirements...
Can't solve the problems, you are holding broken packages...

Any suggestions as to what I might do to get this resolved?

Maybe some others can confirm my observation.

Howevver I'm not sure whether it has been a regression in the kernel or an API
change which breaks the user-space applications reading those values. As fas as
I remember I have been booting into 3.16 und 3.17
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
from 14.04 LTS and the issue persisted (read: no battery indicator). This makes
me think the reason might be in some ubuntu maintained user-space interface or
other kernel module.

BEFORE upgrading to 14.10 make sure to backup your data / installation! On
Kubuntu I hit into this issue - which completely breaks your system if you
can't help yourself:

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2014-11-01 Thread Sascha Heuterer
Hey guys, I've written a script
https://github.com/Anachron/scripts/blob/master/display.sh which I
invoke at the startup of my system
https://github.com/Anachron/scripts/blob/master/startup.sh , which
checks the system every second for changed display settings. (It will
generate a list of attached screen devices and compare to the old list)
If a change has been detected, it will check what displays are used and
will setup a predefined behavior.

This works pretty well! Whenever I attach/detach screens from my pc, it will do
as it says.
Also, the interval of 1 second may be overkill for you, but it doesn't need any
CPU power (under 1%) and it seems very smooth.

You should run the command xrandr before using/modifying the display script to
get a list of possible devices that you can use.
That's what always bothered me with linux, and that's my solution.

I hope you enjoy!

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found

2014-11-01 Thread M. Sussman
Here is some information that might shed some light on the problem.
I am running Linux in a virtual machine (VM) using VirtualBox. I have a
working 13.10 VM that boots using /boot on /sda1, and a number of other disks
that are tied together using LVM. The /root, /home, etc. directories are all in
the LVM. Linux is the only operating system. I took a tar copy of all the
files associated with the 13.10 VM. Then:
1. I tried to upgrade to 14.04. The upgrade seemed to succeed, but would not
boot with the dreaded grub_term_highlight_color missing message.
2. I took a tar copy of the VM with the failed upgrade. I still have this copy.
3. I used tar to restore the 13.10 VM
4. I used the recommended sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc command. The message
informed me that the disk that grub was originally installed to was no longer
present. I believe this message is true. It also presented me with a list of
disks to install grub to. There was no default chosen for me (I expected to
find /dev/sda as default). If I hit OK without choosing a disk, it warned me
that grub would not be installed. I went back to the list, chose /dev/sda and
hit OK. It then did its job with No error reported.
5. I then did the upgrade to 14.04. The upgraded system booted normally.
SUCCESS!

My conclusion is that the upgrade process on my original system NEVER
INSTALLED GRUB at all! When it did the equivalent of the dpkg-
reconfigure grub-pc, it found that the original disk grub was installed
to was missing (true) but then decided NOT to install grub anywhere. In
comment 268, Philip Susi indicated this might be a bug, and I agree it
is a bug in my situation.

I suggest that, at the end of the upgrade process, when the upgrader
asks whether or not to remove obsolete packages, it should also warn the
user that grub was never installed and give the user another chance to
install it.
