[Bug 1388924] Re: ofonod does not recover if rild re-starts

2014-11-04 Thread Tony Espy
** Description changed:

- The rild daemon re-starts after being killed with SIGKILL, but ofono
- does not recover from that.
+ If the rild daemon is re-started due to a crash, ofonod doesn't recover
+ correctly and thus leaves the system in an inconsistent state where most
+ telephony functions are broken.
+
+ This bug is related to the fix for bug #1388030 which was reported for a
+ crash on krillin which involved a socket disconnect. As the fix for the
+ bug worked around the issue by adding a timed delay, we decided to check
+ to see whether a rild restart ( which also causes the socket to
+ disconnect ) would cause similar problems.
+
+ This was tested by intentionally killing rild on krillin with a SIGKILL.

  To reproduce:

  $ phablet-shell
  $ sudo su
  # kill -9 `pgrep rild`
  # cd /usr/share/ofono/scripts
  # dial-number /ril_0

The call to dial-number fails although the VoiceCallManager exists,
which proves that ofonod does not recover properly.

  This happens for

  $ system-image-cli -i
  current build number: 139
  device name: krillin
  channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
  last update: 2014-10-31 08:58:51
  version version: 139
  version ubuntu: 20141031
  version device: 20141028-3ca60be
  version custom: 1414598646

It might be the case also for mako.

[Bug 1154049] Re: Crashes with GLib-GIO-CRITICAL. UnknownMethod: Method "DescribeAll"

2014-11-04 Thread Warren
I have had this exact problem for coming up on a year now. It's stayed
with me from 12.04 → 14.04 → 14.10. I can't shake it, after combined
probably 8 hours of searching for fixes and trying every concoction on
the internet. Has anyone yet found a definitive cause and a fix??

Thanks!

[Bug 1389434] [NEW] Tapping doesn't work after resume

2014-11-04 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

My laptop worked out of the box with ubuntu, which I actually expected so I
didn't even bother to look in the internet if it does before buying it.
There is one thing that is half-broken, though: If I close the computer it goes
into suspend mode. If I open it again it resumes. But like with all other
laptops I could test on after booting the computer's touchpad has tapping and
two-finger-scroll enabled. After the first resume you can click only using the
physical key even if the touchpad works fine otherwise.

Turning off and re-enabling the scrolling functionality in gnome-
control-panel doesn't make scrolling work again.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.8.1-1ubuntu1

[Bug 1389430] [NEW] egrep dependency on /bin/bash prevents egrep use in .bash_profile

2014-11-04 Thread Julian Mehnle
Public bug reported:

julian@ip-10-0-2-91:~$ head -n 1 /bin/egrep
#!/bin/bash

This prevents egrep from being used in .bash_profile, since that creates
in infinite loop.

Debian's latest grep package has that fixed:

grep (2.20-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * d/patches/05-grep-wrapper-sh.patch: egrep and fgrep wrap scripts use sh
instead of bash. The patch also removes the possible call ./grep (looking
for it in the working directory) (Closes: #762427, #762917).

Please update the grep package in Ubuntu, and in Utopic in particular.

[Bug 1191530] Re: Menu config file merge menus from standard locations too soon so defaults override merges.

2014-11-04 Thread Walter Lapchynski
this is certainly outside of the understanding of the upstream
developer. if you wish to convince him, i would recommend filing a bug
report there, since this is really not an ubuntu issue, but an lxde one.
still, it is outside the scope as the developer sees it, so you'd have
to convince him:

[Bug 1389399] Re: race condition between startup script and cloud-init

2014-11-04 Thread Ben Howard
The root cause here is that gce-utils has a job called "google.conf"
that triggers the start of the startup scripts. It starts on "runlevel
[2345]".

I pushed a build recipe change, that mirrors the fix uploaded here:
https://launchpad.net/~cpc-gce-team/+archive/ubuntu/lp1389399

[Bug 1386466] Re: alt-backtick switcher does not iterate through all windows

2014-11-04 Thread Ray Kiddy
Try this. Create 3 html pages.

% echo "0101" >
01.html
% echo "02$1" >
02.html
% echo "0303" >
03.html

Open them into separate windows in the order 1, 2, 3.

Go to the Firefox icon in the Launcher and left-click on it, which gives
you the same sort of view of all the windows. Navigate to window 1. Do
this again, navigating to window 2. And again, navigating to window 3.
>From this point on whenever you go to the launcher, the window at the
top left will be the one you accessed longest ago. So, if you hit the
Launcher icon at this point and always click on the first, top window,
you will see:

01, 02, 03, 01, 02, 03, 01, 02, 03, etc, forever.

If you are looking at 5 windows, you will get:

01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, ..., forever.

In other words, you will be navigating through all the windows in an
orderly manner.

Then go to window 1. Hit alt-grave and pick the window at the top-left.
It will be either 02 or 03. Say that it is 02. So, now 02 is front-most.
Hit alt-grave again. The left, top window will be 01. So, if you hit
alt-grave and take the top-left window, you will get:

01, 02, 01, 02, 01, 02, ... forever.

Note that if you have 20 windows open and you do this, the windows you
will see by hitting alt-grave and selecting the top-left window are:

01, 02, 01, 02, 01, 02, etc, etc, etc.

You see that there is a difference, yes?

My initial report was a bit more complex than this, but if you want
something that is 100% reproducible and as simple as I can make it, here
it is.

If you fix this, it will be clear how to use alt-grave to navigate
through all the windows. If you do not, then alt-grave gives you a list
and the order of the list is changed every time, so you have to search,
yourself, for one of the pages you have not already navigated through.
And, as I pointed out, rather than make me play whack-a-mole in 20
windows, the windows could be presented in a logical order, as they are
from clicking on the Launcher icon.

I did, I dissagree, see my post above (which refers to the same documents

xfce, gnome (when it still had a working menu) and lxde do work correctly
when the system menu file is corrected. I still believe this is a long
standing bug that no one has really noticed in most uses, but should be
corrected so that menu editors will work correctly and so that users can
change the look and feel of their personal menu without hacking the system
file. People have just put up with things not working the way they should
because "Won't fix".

[Bug 1389344] Re: Unlock screen is slow, drops passphrase key-presses

2014-11-04 Thread Michał Sawicz
Yeah, I've noticed this some time ago... I'm sure I even filed a bug...
But can't find it now. Don't have a good explanation either. It's either
that CPU spikes after wake up (if you wait a few seconds before typing
your passcode, can you still reproduce this?)... or some of the first
input events after suspend get lost.

To try and track this down, we'd probably need to put some debugging in
place to log input events as they come in, so that you can leave your
device to suspend and grab some logs when you encounter the problem.

[Bug 1389415] [NEW] installer crashes when installing on btrfs

When installing Ubuntu 14.10 on a btrfs partition, the installer crashes
when copying data.

This is my partition layout:

[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2014-11-04 Thread Pilot6
@Michael

Yes, this is native 14.10 kernel. Did the system boot normally with unpatched
kernel?
I think your problem is with video driver. Did you install any proprietary
driver?
If you install e.g. Nvidia driver from a file .run downloaded from Nvidia site,
the driver is not registered
in DKMS properly, and you need to install it again every time you update the
kernel.

Re: [Bug 1191530] Re: Menu config file merge menus from standard locations too soon so defaults override merges.

2014-11-04 Thread Len Ovens
On Tue, 4 Nov 2014, Walter Lapchynski wrote:

> calling this invalid due to not meeting the specifications.

Which specification are you looking at? Any setting in
/etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged, ~/.config/menus should be able to
override the system menu config.

http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/ar01s05.html Par.12

"Merged menu elements are kept in order because and
elements later in the file override and elements
earlier in the file. This means that if the user's menu file merges the
system menu file, the user can always override what the system menu
specifies by placing elements after the that incorporates the
system file."

So, the way to test this is, is that a *.menu file in ~/.config/menus/ can
change the layout of the menu. Right now this does not happen. Another sub
menu can be added, but the layout of the main menu can not be changed as
it should be able to be. For example, the user installs a number of apps
that pertain to the user's primary use of their computer. But it ends up
part way doen the menu and they wish to have it at the top. They should be
able to change the layout without editting the system menu file.

ubuntustudio uses a group of sub menus that should be grouped for easy
user reference in the /etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged/ directory. It
groups the 5 submenus for audio, graphics, photography, pubplishing and
video. The stock *menu file does not merge this correctly. That is to the
spec.

priority:

system menu file is default and therefore has the lowest priority.

/etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged/ files are installed by other
applications or meta files. This should have a higher priority that the
system menu file.

~/.config/menus/ is the user's version of things how they would like to
see it. Therefore, it should have the highest priority and be able to
override anything else.

in http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/ar01s05.html
paragraph 5 the first bulletted item (1) we see that the last item read
is prioritized.

So the must be near the bottom of the system menu file
in order to work to specification. KDE (BTW) has this right and it does
work to specification, nobody else does.

[Bug 1389407] [NEW] choosing not to report "app crashes and errors" leaves apport and whoopsie running

2014-11-04 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

When one selects not to report "app crashes and errors" to Canonical, in
ubuntu-system-settings, only /var/lib/apport/autoreport is modified.
This file enables or disables the automatic reporting of crashes to the
Ubuntu Error Tracker. However, if we want to improve the user experience
on devices then both whoopsie and apport should also be disabled.

This can be done for apport by setting /etc/default/apport enabled=0.

This can be done for whoopsie by setting /etc/default/whoopsie
report_crashes=false.

Yep, it's using the wrong data type. On amd64 it maps to a 64 bit int,
which is why I never noticed this. On 32 bit platforms however, it maps
to 32 bits.

[Bug 188342] Re: keymap fr/oss: numpad '.' mapped to period instead of KP_Decimal

2014-11-04 Thread mohican
In Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty the same problem remains with the french (alternate) =
français (variante) keyboard layout.
(This layout is for me the best of all french layouts, and it is the one
selected by default when installing Ubuntu.)

But now, "thanks" to the gnome simplying of interfaces we now no longer
have access to the optionnal settings of the keyboard layout !

To have access to these settings, install gnome-tweak-tool, you will find them
under the "typing" section.
However gnome-tweak-tool doesn't work too good in 14.04 (background is
transparent !)

[Bug 1279047] Re: alphabetical sorting in lxtask is case sensitive

2014-11-04 Thread Walter Lapchynski
in both vivid and utopic, this bug is still present, though it was sort
of poorly defined. not sure it's really a bug or just outside of the
original design, but this is a case sensitivity issue.

let's assume we had tasks Foo, foo, Bar, and bar.

currently, lxtask sorts like so:
Bar
Foo
bar
foo

the OP would like:
bar
Bar
foo
Foo

needless to say, i'm calling this low.

** Changed in: lxtask (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Triaged

** Description changed:

- Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
- Release: 14.04
- lxtask:
- Installed: 0.1.4-3.1ubuntu1
- Candidate: 0.1.4-3.1ubuntu1
+ STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
+ 1. Create a couple shell scripts with CamelCase filenames, e.g. Foo and Bar
+ 2. Run lxtask
+ 3. Click on "Command" to sort by file name

- 3. I expected lxtask to sort the process in order alphabetically when
- clicking on command.
+ EXPECTED RESULTS:
+ Have commands sorted in a case-insensitive manner.

- 4. Instead three tasks were shown out of alphabetical order while the
- other command were in alphabetical order like in the screenshot of modem
- manager NEtwork manager and xorg at the top.
+ ACTUAL RESULTS:
+ Upper case is sorted before lower case.

I would prefer that the ofono task in this bug be removed, as it's
essentially a duplicate of bug #1376250, which as Alfonso pointed out
has already been committed to trunk. I added an rtm14 tag and an
Ubuntu (RTM) task to that bug so that it can be escalated and landed in
one of the OTA buckets.

[Bug 730023] Re: Mountall doesn't swapon with 'ignore'-d swap in fstab

2014-11-04 Thread Aren
New to these forums. The machine is a test machine to use with HEAVY 3D
graphics and animations. Testing Unity and OS for stability. I think
these errors may be coming from the Ubuntu install program and happens
when you attempt to override installer defaults. The system has 2
physical hard drives. I made several install attempts trying to learn
the partition utility as part of install. I think that BOTH drives were
set up while experimenting and the confusion may come about a a result
of system crashes or hard resets? IDK, I'm fishing here. During
installation as a first time Ubuntu user I was surprised that the
install doesn't let you create mounts for the file systems you define on
a second drive? The install didn't recognize the encrypted /home
partition on the larger second drive, complained and home was mounted on
the first smaller drive. I accepted this knowing it can be changed
later. So, the swap is encrypted. I wonder how many users are reporting
on similar issues with encrypted swap or don't know they have any. My
very large 1T encrypted /home partition is not mounted at all. I just
decided to let this ride in order to try the rest of the system at the
time. I know brevity is appreciated, but this one might have to be long
to get started. No fear here, as this is an empty machine at this point.
However, there are many other issues on this machine as well. Attached
is a long file showing disks, etc because I don't think this issue has
been solved at the root problem, and is not showing many users affected
simply because they are taking the default installation without knowing
that it is happening. I think the priority on this issue should be
raised since it is a core function in a long term release, but I might
be wrong ;-)

LibreOffice 3.4.0
DEV300m103 (Build:5)

3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Calc via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/681080/+attachment/1743794/+files/OO_DCOUNT_problem_2.ods
&& localc -nologo OO_DCOUNT_problem_2.ods

is Sheet 1, cell B19's formula:

=DCOUNT(A4:E13,0,A16:E17)

throws an error as it is a malformed expression pointing to a non-
existent column 0.

4) What happens instead is it erroneously yields 5. Occurs in both
Ubuntu LO & 3.4.0 Beta.

markus.mohrh...@googlemail.com, as mentioned in the above link:
"Issues:

The exact use of 0 as the field parameter is unclear, both in operation
and in compatibility (issue 84168)".

As well, Microsoft clears up what it means via:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/dcount-HP005209049.aspx

The field parameter is not supposed to have a 0 in it as field is the
column to use. A 0 column does not make sense. Hence, LO should throw an
error for Excel compatibility reasons (Gnumeric also throws the error
appropriately).

No we are not Excel and we have our own formula api. As mentionen in the

This is not a bug but a feature! We are not a excel copy so we don't
need to behave in the same way.

I never said LibreOffice was Excel.

While 0 is currently allowed, it does not hold compatibility with Excel
or Gnumeric as noted in Comment #2.

Ok, this bug has been remarked as ENHANCEMENT.

[Bug 1124071] Re: [tabs] Cannot add Tabs programmatically

2014-11-04 Thread Niklas Wenzel
@giorgio-venturi: May I ask for which reasons the Tabs component is
deprecated now? I always liked the "Hamburger" tabs menu and it is used
by a number of core apps (Shorts, Whether, Sudoku, etc.).
