[Bug 1389204] [NEW] "No Calls Today" and "No Messages Today" go to screens with empty buttons

2014-11-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.10 r6

0. If you have made/sent/received any calls or messages today, wipe the phone.
1. Go to the "Dashboard" screen.
2. Tap "No Calls Today" or "No Messages Today".
3. Tap the button.

What happens:
2. You end up on a screen labelled "Dashboard" containing the text "No Calls
Today" or "No Messages Today" and an empty button.
3. The screen goes black except for a close button in the corner.

What should happen: either
2. Nothing happens, you don't end up on a separate screen; or
3. the screen does not contain a button that goes nowhere.

[Bug 1389167] Re: HostbasedAuthentication produces spurious warnings

2014-11-04 Thread Owen Dunn
Digging a bit further, I think this arises because ssh-keysign punts off
all its host key processing to openSSL, but openSSL does not support
ED25519 keys.

[Bug 1353591] Re: Ubuntu Touch devices sometimes come up with hwclock set to 1970

2014-11-04 Thread Ondrej Kubik
I have investigated similar issue on krillin.
In case of krillin hw clock is set at the factory to 1st of January 2014,
0:00am.
This causes first boot (out of the box experience) to last 2mins 40 seconds
before welcome wizard appears, with over 2minutes of it being white screen with
bootloader logo (Google in case of N4, BQ for krillin)
Proposed and tested fix is to have upstart job, which would check time stamps
of installed custom and rootfs builds. HW clock is then adjusted to those time
stamps.
This will not set time to correct value, however it will set it to something
more realistic and at least to time which is ahead of the time when images in
the phone were built, and more importantly when apparmour caches were created.
This makes first boot accept precompiled apparmour caches.

[Bug 1389200] [NEW] Type ahead discards first character

2014-11-04 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Nautilus apparently clears the keyboard buffer sometimes, e.g. when
moving to another directory. If the user is using type ahead rather
rapidly, as power users do, the first character typed while a nautilus
window is opened or while switching to a new folder is discarded.

Steps to reproduce

Type a few letters of a folder in the current directory, press
then immediately continue type the name of a folder underneath. If the
folder is opened for the first time in the session, and if the folder is
larger, opening the folder will take a tiny bit of time. However, the
first character the user was already typing may have been discarded.

Expected behaviour: user keystroke should not be discarded but be used
when nautilus is again ready to accept keyboard input.

Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10

nautilus:
  Installed: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu15
  Candidate: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu15

[Bug 1243233] Re: Holding Super key doesn't bring up shortcut overlay.

2014-11-04 Thread Bruno Nova
You're right!
With an horizontal resolution of 1024, the overlay is not display.
I took a screenshot of the overlay to see how it would look in 1024x768, and it
doesn't fit horizontally, even with workspaces disabled.
Also, the horizontal size probably depends on the used language (the texts may
be longer/shorter in other languages).

[Bug 1389195] [NEW] "Fitbit" section in Dashboard goes to an empty screen when tapped

2014-11-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.10 r6

0. Remove your Fitbit account from the phone if you have one.
1. Go to the "Dashboard" screen and scroll to "Fitbit".
2. Tap anywhere in the section, which is quite easy to do by accident.

What happens:
* You end up on a "Dashboard" screen that is completely empty.
* If you didn't notice that a Back button has appeared next to "Dashboard", you
might reasonably conclude that the Dashboard has broken.

What should happen: either
* If you have no Fitbit account, the section should not go to a separate
screen, or
* if it does go to a separate screen, it should not be called "Dashboard" and
should not be empty.

** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1389192] [NEW] "Fitbit" text in Dashboard has poor grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and call to action

2014-11-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.10 r6

0. Remove your Fitbit account from the phone if you have one.
1. Go to the "Dashboard" screen and scroll to "Fitbit".

What you see: "Please setup an account in system settings"

What's wrong with this:
A. "Setup" is a noun, so "Please setup" is ungrammatical.
B. "System Settings" is a proper noun, so "system settings" is miscapitalized.
C. A caption is a complete sentence (sometimes more than one), and this
sentence is missing its period.
D. There's no explanation of why you *should* set up an account.
E. "In system settings" is a useless direction. The word "Fitbit" does not
appear anywhere on the System Settings screen, leaving you lost.
F. Sending people to System Settings is the wrong thing to do in the first
place: they might already have a Fitbit account set up.

What you should see: something like

Track your fitness activities here using a Fitbit account.
( Use Fitbit… ) ( No Thanks )

[Bug 1308105]

2014-11-04 Thread Bigwoof1234
This is strange.

The new patch did not work for me. Left everything off for a day, came
back and turned it off and the signal was gone. I had to use my hack

/usr/bin/xrandr -s 1
/usr/bin/xrandr -s 0

to get the signal back.

no such issues last week with Alexander's 1 liner. I noticed that the
longer patch has that 1 liner as well and then some.

wierd!

Same here. Gedit is practically unworkable. When editing text files the
mouse cursor often becomes invisible when moving it over the edit window
and during editing it crashes at random moments.

System is 14.10 fresh install.

[Bug 1386597] Re: Oopses when ejecting thinkpad x230t from docking station with extern DP monitor

2014-11-04 Thread Muelli
So here is the result of my investigation.
It's a bit limited due to my limited time. I hope it is usefule nonetheless.

3.13.0-37 bad
3.18-rc1-utopic good

3.14.3 good

3.13.11.9 bad

3.14-rc5 oopses, but slow with backlight control
3.14-rc1 seems to work, but only coarse grained, other oops related to HID it
seems
3.14.0 no oops, but very slow with the backlight control

3.15 very good

These are all the version I tested. Do you think it's worth testing
3.14.1 and 3.14.2?

[Bug 1124071] Re: [tabs] Cannot add Tabs programmatically

2014-11-04 Thread Giorgio Venturi
** Description changed:

There seems to be no easy way to add a Tab to Tabs programmatically.

I would be nice to be able add, remove and edit Tabs dynamically. So far
I haven't found a way to do this.

I have made an Android style ViewPager based on ListView. It is quite
easy to update the pages with ListModel methods.
+
+ UX Comments
+ Tabs are deprecated, use the new header instead, or headers sections

[Bug 1377455] Re: Difficult to edit SIM name

2014-11-04 Thread Jonas G. Drange
@seb128, whenever a user taps the SIM which name he/she wants to edit,
we 'scroll' the flickable so that the focused text field and associated
action buttons are above the OSK and below the header.

So contentY was manipulated in this branch so that it is easier to edit
the SIM name.

[Bug 1387357] Re: No web asking about integration in Ubuntu 14.10

2014-11-04 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Could it be that the extension is not installed at all? It’s not on my

be that at some point I manually uninstalled it).

[Bug 1387154] Re: USB host device no longer added to VM

2014-11-04 Thread Matti Laakso
I also have the same problem: USB host devices can no longer be added to
the guest system. I don't use USB redirection with spice, but the Add
hardware -> USB host device option in virt-manager. I get the following
messages in the /var/log/libvirt/qemu/guest.log file:

libusbx: error [_get_usbfs_fd] libusbx couldn't open USB device
/dev/bus/usb/001/011: Permission denied
libusbx: error [_get_usbfs_fd] libusbx requires write access to USB device
nodes.

Sure enough, the write permissions are restricted to root only:

crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 11 marra 4 12:00 011

Shouldn't libvirtd change these permissions automatically? This worked
in 14.04, so it is a regression.

[Bug 998546] Re: 0408:3003 [Packard Bell oneTwo (PW.U6C)] Touch-screen did work on 11.04 but no longer works on 12.04

2014-11-04 Thread Paddy Landau
I read on the following link that Unity 8 will work best on a touchscreen.
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/the-science-behind-the-ebb-and-flow-of-ubuntu-unitys-popularity/

This makes me worried, as my touchscreen is still not working (over two
years since this was reported, despite a solution having been offered).

Is there any news on this? Is there anything that I can do to help this
along (I'm not a programmer so I can't help on that score)?

[Bug 1198714] Re: [browser] Switching between tabs cumbersome

2014-11-04 Thread Giorgio Venturi
** Description changed:

  Current Behaviour:
  - When switching between tabs, I have to make two touches. Most other
browsers only require one.
  - When switching between tabs, there is very limited space to display tab
specific information.
  - Tab icons do not have a number indicating the number of tabs open.
  - We cannot switch between tabs using the left-to-right swipe motion.
  - We are forced to use the in-browser tab switching because we cannot have
multiple instances of the browser app.
  - I can have a GMail web app, and Gmail open in a seperate tab, but I would
have to switch between them differently. This can be fairly confusing because
the windows aren't lableled when switching unless you go to the main Apps page.

  Expected Behaviour:
  - Use a switching behaviour similar to the way we switch between
notifications to switch between tabs. I posted a video about it here:
https://plus.google.com/113548024460495540073/posts/LKk7yHvFY68
  - Alternatively, abandon the entire Tab functionality and only have new
browser app instances. This will make the experience more aligned with the Web
App experience.
NOTE: I remember reading an article regarding windows switching tab
switching. The article explained that the introduction of Tabs in applications
was an attempt to take control of windows switching from the window manager. I
don't have a reference, but I believe it was written with Ubuntu in mind. If
knows about this article, it probably gives good use cases to abandone tabbing
all together.
+
+ UX Comment:
+ The new bottom edge functionality will address the issues above.
+ See bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1329943

[Bug 1389167] [NEW] HostbasedAuthentication produces spurious warnings

2014-11-04 Thread Owen Dunn
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
openssh-client 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu2

We have HostbasedAuthentication set up in our environment so that users
can ssh between equivalent hosts without a password.

ssh_config contains (relevantly)

HostbasedAuthentication yes
PreferredAuthentications publickey,hostbased,password,keyboard-interactive
EnableSSHKeysign yes

sshd_config contains (relevantly)

HostbasedAuthentication yes

This works:

ocelot:~$ ssh othermc
othermc:~$

However, ssh-ing as an alternative user produces additional warning
messages before the expected password prompt:

ocelot:~$ ssh otheruser@othermc
no matching hostkey found
ssh_keysign: no reply
key_sign failed
otheruser@othermc's password:

If instead of relying on EnableSSHKeysign in ssh_config I make the ssh
binary setuid:

chmod u+s /usr/bin/ssh

...the extra warnings go away and I get what I expect:

ocelot:~$ ssh otheruser@othermc
otheruser@othermc's password:

This makes me suspect that there may be a problem with ssh-keysign.

I have updated the bug title to only cover the firefox extension issue,
since Olivier wasn't able to reproduce the issue. That last one, ie the
webapp container being blank maybe due to local config files producing
errors. Can you attach the logs of the webapp while it (tries to) start?
