I never use the Konsole embedded inside of Kile. I don't want it. As far
as I'm concerned, it need not exist, and if it has to exist, this should
be something internal to Kile and should not bother me, the end user.

However, if I open a new file in Kile, or switch tabs in Kile, it sends
out commands to Konsole (usually cding to some folder), and this
interferes in my terminal usage. This can have unpredictable
consequences - for example if I'm playing music with mplayer, the "cd
blah blah" text sent to it may cause it to stop and exit, or do all
sorts of strange things. This is probably because Kile launches Konsole
which causes it to attach to the same byobu session.

I use my terminal and LaTeX editor as two entirely independent apps, and
I expect them not to interfere with each other.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start with a fresh Kubuntu install. Ensure that Kile, Konsole, and byobu are
installed.
2. In your only Konsole profile, ensure that the "command" is set to byobu.
3. Open Konsole, if not open already. You should be in byobu. Navigate to some
folder X.
4. Open Kile, and open a LaTeX file in some folder Y, different from X. Open
other files and switch tabs and compile if needed.
5. Go back and look at Konsole.

Actual Results:
Your current path in the shell has changed in Konsole, thanks to some "cd"
commands you never issued.

Expected Results:
Konsole should work. Kile should work. They should not interfere with each
other.

[Bug 1395392] Re: Gramps version is outdated: 4.1.1 has been released

2014-11-22 Thread Ross Gammon
Hi Valorie,
Thanks for reporting this.
Can you please confirm that the real problem is that the map function
(Geography View) is not working in Gramps?
If so, upgrading to 4.1.1 will probably not help because I suspect the problem
is that the osmgpsmap package is the wrong version in Utopic. I am working on
backporting the latest osmgpsmap, but the situation is unfortunately a litttle
complicated.
Regards,
Ross

[Bug 1388339] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel, playback] No sound at all and streaming going hi speed

2014-11-22 Thread Stephane
I reinstalled ubuntu and the same thing is happening. After some browsing on
you tube sound is not working anymore and some streaming bargraphs (soundcloud
ie) are going twice faster than normal and still no sound.
This bug doesn't seem to affect "Mixxx" which is a DJing software. Sound still
works with this.
Altough I had this message when starting Mixxx:

> Carte son occupée
Sound card busy
> Mixxx n'a pas pu accéder à tous les périphériques audio configurés. Un des
> périphériques est peut-être utilisé par une autre
> application ou débranché.
> Réessayer après avoir fermé l'autre application ou avoir reconnecté le
> périphérique de son
> Reconfigurer les options audio de Mixxx.
> Trouver de l'aide sur le Wiki Mixxx.
> Quitter Mixxx.

But the software still play sounds. Not anything else.

Thank you for your help

[Bug 1395430] [NEW] Kile interferes with a Konsole session running outside of Kile if Konsole uses byobu

[Bug 1297849] Re: Virtual private network connection fails after distribution upgrade due to outdated Network Manager configuration files

2014-11-22 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Well, I downgraded to 14.04 and the problem has gone away completely for
me.

Nothing I tried with 14.10 worked. It may have worked if I had done a
completely clean install (one where no existing /home partition
existed). As I've mentioned, the problem began after I upgraded from
14.04 to 14.10. Then I installed 14.10 again, but I did this 14.10
install while having an existing /home partition (so not a completely
clean reinstall).

There are two bugs why I cannot continue to run 14.10. This one, and one with
Autokey-GTK:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autokey/+bug/1395415

Here are my thoughts on this bug. You'd think it have to do with one of
those hidden configuration file in the /home/user directory. However,
this may not be the case: people having tried deleting those config
files and folder completely (so that they are recreated from scratch
next use) and the problem didn't go away.

Have vpnc or network-manager packages changed since 14.04?

You can determine your version by typing this as a single line into the
terminal:

sudo apt-get install apt-show-versions ; sudo apt-show-versions network-
manager network-manager-vpnc

In 14.04, I get this output:

network-manager:amd64/trusty 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7 uptodate
network-manager-vpnc:amd64/trusty 0.9.8.6-1ubuntu2 uptodate

What version of these are running in 14.10?

[Bug 1394711] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers

2014-11-22 Thread Brett Bogert
Ok I have run the aforementioned test with the DVI to HDMI cable and no analog
sound cable attached
and the System Setting Sound dialog set to the HDMI video card sound chip. This
does output sound from
the test application but the "System Ready" sound still appears to be going out
the analog output.

To clarify the "latency" problem I have been having using HDMI sound on the
video card when the sound
test application is run initially the "front left" sound is missing the "front"
sound. After this it works fine
until the System Settings dialog is exited and reentered then the "latency"
problem occurs again.

This also causes desktop notifications to be only partially output or not
output at all when using the
HDMI video card's sound device. This is why I have been using the analog output
on the motherboard
as the problem does not occur with it..

If you need more information or want me to try something I havn't tried or
need me to test a proposed fix
let me know and I will do so as soon as I can.

Thanks

[Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-22 Thread Nobody
Hello Christopher,
First of all, I apologize for late response.
Secondly, I have updated my BIOS, and bug still persists, here is the terminal
output from those two suggested lines:
user@user:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
[sudo] password for user:
V1.35
07/03/2008
user@user:~$
And lastly, I have noticed that I have foolishly ran i686 OS on amd64 capable
processor. Bug still persists in both versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1395422] [NEW] Add SRIO SerDes support for 5Gbps baudrate

2014-11-22 Thread Ike Panhc
Public bug reported:

 - Fix SRIO SerDes initialization for supporting 5Gbps
 - Add management of SerDes Rx coefficients (att/boost)
 - Add optional calibration of SerDes Rx coefficients with PRBS training
 - Add optional DFE average offset computation
 - Add sysfs entries for getting/setting SerDes Tx/Rx coefficients (in the
   'serdes' directory)
 - Fix a couple of SerDes functions
 - Add sysfs entries for initiating SerDes calibration ('calibrate') and
   starting/stopping the SRIO controller ('start'). Writting a non-zero
value
   in these file will start the service, writting a zero will stop it.
   Calibration can only be performed when SRIO controller has not been
started.
 - Add 'serdes_calibration' (default 0) and 'enable_ports' (default 1)
module
   parameters
 - Fix SRIO controller stop and shutdown
 - Fix error recovery
 - Cosmetic cleanup and code simplification

** Affects: linux-keystone (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
 Assignee: Ike Panhc (ikepanhc)
 Status: In Progress

** Summary changed:

- add SRIO SerDes support for 5Gbps baudrate

[Bug 1395269] Re: [e1000e] ethtool -t eth0 offline loses routing table

2014-11-22 Thread Peter Cordes
So the idea is for drivers to not tell the kernel that the interface
went down, while it's doing self-tests? I guess igb had this problem
fixed, according to the redhat bug, but I guess not e1000e.

 Yes, I'm pretty sure the interface goes down during the offline portion
of the full set of self-tests, for my e1000e. Connected to my switch,
it takes longer than usual to autonegotiate a link. I should have
posted this in the initial report, but here's the actual output:

sudo ethtool -t eth0 offline
The test result is FAIL
The test extra info:
Register test  (offline) 0
Eeprom test(offline) 0
Interrupt test (offline) 0
Loopback test  (offline) 0
Link test   (on/offline) 1

 If this doesn't usually happen with e1000e, the long autonegotiation is
probably the corner case that's causing it. It's so long that the link
test fails. (also, would it make sense to do the link test first,
before offline tests that trigger autonegotiation? Or do we WANT to
flag problems like sketchy setups that require SmartSpeed fallback to
10baseT to make a working link?)

 The other solution would be to save/restore routing table entries for that
interface. But that might cause problems in some corner cases. So it might be
a lot of work to implement safely, in the face of complex routing tables and/or
changes made during the self-test while the interface was still online. Oh
duh, nvm, there's more than just IPv4 to save/restore routing tables for. Some
custom protocol that ethtool doesn't know about would not have its routing
table saved/restored.

 Anyway, thanks for having a look into this. It's not a problem for me
now that I know about it, just wanted to get it reported so at least the
docs could include a warning. That's all that I think really needs
doing, since checking every driver would be a lot of work.

how about:
 ethtool(8):
...
   offline
  Perform all tests, including ones that interrupt normal
operation. Some drivers may bring the interface down/up during this process,
flushing routing table entries. They shouldn't, but be prepared just in case.
Report problems with specific drivers against the Linux kernel (not ethtool).

 The "report a bug" sentence is probably too much, and could go.

[Bug 1166125] Re: Broken fonts for Gtk based applications

Given that this package breaks the entire desktop in a non-obvious way,
the priority should be "high". I'm a software developer and have used
linux as my daily OS since 1993 and it took me several hours to figure
out what was going wrong.

What are novice users going to do, other than install another OS, if
this bug strikes them? This bug makes all of X totally unusable.

[Bug 1166125] Re: Broken fonts for Gtk based applications

2014-11-22 Thread Ogilvierothchild
This package was somehow auto-installed in a release upgrade today from 14.04
to 14.10, and cost me most of the day trying to figure out why everything in X
was glitchy and crashing. The terminal looked like
http://askubuntu.com/questions/285836/letter-spacing-in-gnome-terminal

Even xterm would crash on ctrl-right-click, and these badly-spaced
strange characters appeared in almost every terminal emulator (xterm
worked, except for its menus). Font selection dialogs ground the
computer to a halt, and even the window manager titlebars were in a
wonky font. Yet, something was showing, so it was a lot of work to
investigate the entire stack of X11, Xft, fontconfig, freetype, pango,
gtk, etc to find what component was bad.

sudo apt-get purge pango-graphite

solved the problem. No idea how that package got installed, but it's
removal fixed everything immediately. There is a serious problem with
this package in the 14.10 release of ubuntu as well.

[Bug 1394711] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers

2014-11-22 Thread Brett Bogert
Raymond,

I have performed the requested data captures and will attach them.

I took a look at the xrandr command and decided to try a little troubleshooting
on my own and found
that the following xrandr command resolves the problem until the system is
shutdown or rebooted
(e.g. the System Settings sound tests pass and the "System Ready" sound is
output if I logout):

xrandr --output DVI-0 --set audio off

So it appears that the underlying code for the "audio = auto" setting for DVI-0
is incorrectly determining
that the setting for this configuration(e.g. DVI to HDMI with analog audio) is
"on" instead of "off".

I can understand the confusion after looking at the DVI video
specification on wikipedia and finding this:

DVI-D devices output HDMI signals, many including audio, (examples: ATI
3000-series and
NVIDIA GTX 200-series video cards) ,[9] and some multimedia displays input that
HDMI signal,
including audio, by using a DVI to HDMI adapter. Exact capabilities vary by
video card specifications.

The only test I have not run is to see if the HDMI video card selection in the
System Settings Sound
dialog will actually output sound on the DVI to HDMI cable and also resolve the
issue. I will try this as
soon as I finish attaching the data files and will add another comment to let
you know what the outcome
of the test is.

[Bug 1395415] [NEW] Autokey Phrases Corrupted in Ubuntu 14.10+

2014-11-22 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

I use autokey to create hot-keys for automatically typing strings of
text into terminals and number of other programming IDEs.

After installing Ubuntu 14.10, the auto-typing output of these "phases"
have become severely corrupted. They appear correctly in the autokey-gtk
gui, but when I initiate them the output is corrupted.

For example, I saved the string below as a phrase in autokey-gtk:

sudo apt-get install abiword agave alacarte alarm-clock amarok amule
aptoncd apt-src aqemu ardour asunder atop audacious audacity autokey-gtk

[Bug 1385165] Re: "Exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x4000000 action 0xe frozen" when playing media

2014-11-22 Thread Orzech
I made a "copy to image file" of Fedora 21 beta LiveDVD. This is what I
saw when DVD started to spin:

ata5: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x400 action 0xe frozen
ata5: irq_stat 0x0040, connection status changed
ata5: SError: { DevExch }
ata5: hard resetting link

ata5: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)
ata5: EH complete

and this is what I saw when DVD stopped spinning:

ata5: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x400 action 0xe frozen
ata5: irq_stat 0x0040, connection status changed
ata5: SError: { DevExch }
ata5: hard resetting link

ata5: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)
ata5: EH complete

It looked as if the logs were triggered by the DVD-RW drive. Observation
about media players triggering these logs remains valid, though.

[Bug 1394480] Re: Need a mechanism to load more query results

2014-11-22 Thread Robert Schroll
For the record, I've implemented a workaround to provide a "Load more"
button at the bottom of the list of results. It specially crafts a
query that the scope will use to load the next group of results. There
are many problems with this approach (confusing queries displayed,
departments disappear even if you're browsing one, no way to return to
the previous page), but it's something.

See the code here: https://github.com/rschroll/gmail-
scope/commit/7288adc97953471863eee71fc65ca5582c974a90

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  ethtool -t eth0 offline does the tests, but leaves the routing table
  with only the entry for the local network. I had to sudo route add
  default gw 10.0.0.1, in my case. The online test didn't do this.

   And yes, my e1000e is autonegotiating to 10baseT/Full on the same

  hence running self-tests... I thought this machine used to run at
  1000baseT, weird if I went 5 years without noticing my desktop being
  slow. Not what this bug report is about, though.

  Appears to be the same problem as someone reported to Redhat a while ago,
which got marked as fixed for the igb driver
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=661976
  Not very useful info in their BTS, because the bug that it's a dup of is now
flagged private, so nobody can even look at it.

   Possibly this is a per-driver thing, unless the right fix is to have
  ethtool save/restore the routing table entries for that iface.

[Bug 1319589] Re: [drm:rv770_dpm_set_power_state] *ERROR* rv770_set_sw_state failed

2014-11-22 Thread Peter Estes
Same issue occurs with Radeon HD 4550 (RV710) using kernel 3.13 with
Ubuntu 14.04. Resuming from Suspend boots to less than optimal graphics
state. A reboot will return normal functionality.

dmesg | grep power returns familiar output but with the these error
lines:

[Bug 1385165] Re: "Exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x4000000 action 0xe frozen" when playing media

2014-11-22 Thread Orzech
I was not able to boot my system with v3.18-rc1-utopic, but I've tested
Fedora 21 beta with kernel 3.17.1-302.fc21 and the problem still was
there. I also noticed that the error was reported when my DVD was
ejected after successful burning (AFAIR), too.

[Bug 1395219] Re: systemd-udevd segfault

2014-11-22 Thread Daniel Hollocher
I admit I mainly read the section that you linked. What is "that" that
the article covers?

I do see a section on bisecting Ubuntu git trees. That might be what
I'm looking for, but I'm still confused as to how I would figure out my
good and bad starting points.

2014-11-22 Thread ZhengJianhui
when I run `sudo apt-get install -f`, it failed.
The error is similiar to the privious.
May be it'a not a bug, but something wrong with my computer hardware and os
configuration.

I notice that the kernel's version it metioned and the one I am using is
different.

I use `uname -a`, it shows version 3.13.0-36
```
But this ‘bug’ shows a different version kernel, 3.13.0-37.64
[Bug 1366538] Re: Synchronisation/close /dev/sdi: i/o error on target host
2014-11-22 Thread TwinPrimes
I can add another data point: Same thing happened to me. I have a 300GB
external Seagate drive that was working fine for a few years with no
problems attached to the USB 2.0 port of my Gigabyte motherboard. After
upgrading to 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-39-generic (64-bit) the drive
switches to read-only FS after the first write operation and I see a
number of "end_request: critical target error" messages in kern.log.
The drive also has a firewire port, so I unplugged the USB cable and
plugged in a Firewire cable and now all is well. I've written multiple
GBs to it with no problems. The only issue is that the throughput is
substantially lower now -- around 25 MB/s compared to around 43 MB/s I
was seeing before with USB but I can live with that for a while.
[Bug 1395404] [NEW] Screen brightness never listens
2014-11-22 Thread Cameron Whiting
Public bug reported:
I can never get the screen brightness to obey me on ubuntu. It's to the
point where I'd move to Mint. The setting is simply a checkbox in the
settings, and when unchecked, apparently the screen still follows the
"90 seconds" until dimming the screen.
It should stay bright :/
[Bug 1395401] [NEW] The UI allows creation of invalid locale names
2014-11-22 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:
I'm not using Kubuntu, but I help out with answering *buntu questions
sometimes, and I would like to report an issue I have met several times.
In the GUI for language settings, you apparently set the language and
the country separately. For example you can select English and France,
which results in the invalid locale name "en_FR.UTF-8". Apparently this
should not be allowed to happen.
This is the latest Ask Ubuntu question caused by this annoying design
flaw:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/552719
Fixing it should be given high priority IMNSHO.
[Bug 1395258] Re: Ubuntu continuously suspends, resumes, suspends, resumes, when battery low
2014-11-22 Thread NoBugs!
I updated with the latest kernel .deb, uname -a  gives me:
Linux linuxlaptop 3.18.0-031800rc5-generic #201411162035 SMP Mon Nov 17
01:36:34 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I still see the problem. When it suspends at low battery, it immediately
starts up again, but doesn't go into an infinite loop of suspend-
resumes. When I shut it I hear it suspend, disk powers down, then it
powers up.
[Bug 1362452] Re: Menu editor fails to produce expected results.
2014-11-22 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Hi Sean! I confirmed this on Xubuntu 14.04 x64, fresh install, all
updates and latest Menulibre 2.0.6 from the stable ppa repository.
Playing arround with  the configuration files I found a workarroud for
this bug:
Note: Update all packages and install latest Menulibre from ppa stable
repository f
1.  Delete all files in  "~//.config/menus" (or rename the
directory  to  ~//.config/menus.bkp and create a new empty
"~//.config/menus" in order to backup it).
2.  Delete all files in "~//.local/share/applications/" (againg,
it's possible to rename "~//.local/share/applications" to
"~//.local/share/applications.bkp" and create an empty
"~//.local/share/applications/" in order to backup it)
3. Copy all  files from "/usr/share/applications/" to
"~//.local/share/applications/"
3. Backup "/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce-applications.menu" (i. e.
rename it to "/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce-applications.menu.bkp").
You need to be root to do that. At this point, your Application menu
will show all the optiosn that were not hidden but were not shown
before.
4. Copy  (and replace) "/etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu" to
"/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/" You need to be root to do that.
5. Restart the system
Now is working as expected.
[Bug 1367002] Re: Intel XEON L5430 is not supported
2014-11-22 Thread Mihai Hanor
This is a BIOS bug. If you look more closely to the content of /proc/cpuinfo
for the affected cores, you'll see that there are fewer reported CPU features,
including the 'est' feature which is Enhanced SpeedStep. If you post what cpuid
-r command dumps, you will probably see  that  the affected CPU cores report
incorrect CPU features (CPUID leaf 1, that's EAX=1, features reported in ECX).
This is caused by the AV69 / AX64 revision E0 CPU errata (L5430 is revE0, see
the CPU signature 0x1067a) and the failure of the BIOS to update the microcode
for all CPU cores (look at the dmesg log, microcode 0x0), before each revE0
core gets to initialize the PECI_CTL MSR. It may be that your BIOS doesn't
contain the required microcode update. The same thing can be said about the
revC0 microcode update (CPU signature 0x10676), but the revC0 is not affected
by the errata.
I have already investigated a case with an Abit IP35 motherboard, a revE0 Xeon
CPU and a BIOS that contains the required microcode update, but which fails to
update the microcode to cores 2,3 and 4, while the first core is a success. The
only workaround I found was to modify the raw BIOS, not to write to the
PECI_CTL MSR, and to disable all thermal control/protection, in the BIOS menu.
[Bug 1390589] Re: 8086:08b1 [Lenovo V570] Intel Wireless 7260 wifi stops working
2014-11-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Asif Youssuff, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 3.16 to 3.18-rc3 in order to identify the last bad commit,
followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been
identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into
your release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?  Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.
Thank you for your understanding.
[Bug 1349000] Re: Networking - Destination unreachable (Fragmentation needed)
2014-11-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Arthur Fragoso, it is best to both send an e-mail to the maintainer
mailing list, as well as CC the person who made the commit. Hence, the
issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this
problem to the appropriate mailing list (netdev) by following the
instructions _verbatim_ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel
?
Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked.
Thank you for your understanding.
[Bug 1395390] [NEW] does not connect after suspend/resume
2014-11-22 Thread Robinson Tryon
Public bug reported:
After resume from suspend, empathy no longer connects to any server,
even after restarting the application.
This bug has similar behavior to an existing report, however in my case neither
interaction with the application GUI nor (solely) killing empathy seemed to
have any effect:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/empathy/+bug/662766
Ubuntu 14.04.1 (Trusty)
Empathy 3.8.6-0 (Adding the Gnome3 PPA to get an updated version of Empathy
(3.10.3-0) had no change)
Workarounds:
- Rebooting
- Killing all empathy *and* telepathy processes identified by:
  ps aux|grep 'empathy\|telepathy'
** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
