As far as I'm concerned, it need not exist, and if it has to exist, this should be something internal to Kile and should not bother me, the end user. However, if I open a new file in Kile, or switch tabs in Kile, it sends out commands to Konsole (usually cding to some folder), and this interferes in my terminal usage. This can have unpredictable consequences - for example if I'm playing music with mplayer, the "cd blah blah" text sent to it may cause it to stop and exit, or do all sorts of strange things. This is probably because Kile launches Konsole which causes it to attach to the same byobu session. I use my terminal and LaTeX editor as two entirely independent apps, and I expect them not to interfere with each other. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start with a fresh Kubuntu install. Ensure that Kile, Konsole, and byobu are installed. 2. In your only Konsole profile, ensure that the "command" is set to byobu. 3. Open Konsole, if not open already. You should be in byobu. Navigate to some folder X. 4. Open Kile, and open a LaTeX file in some folder Y, different from X. Open other files and switch tabs and compile if needed. 5. Go back and look at Konsole. Actual Results: Your current path in the shell has changed in Konsole, thanks to some "cd" commands you never issued. Expected Results: Konsole should work. Kile should work. [Bug 1395392] Re: Gramps version is outdated: 4.1.1 has been released
Hi Valorie, Thanks for reporting this. Can you please confirm that the real problem is that the map function (Geography View) is not working in Gramps? If so, upgrading to 4.1.1 will probably not help because I suspect the problem is that the osmgpsmap package is the wrong version in Utopic. I am working on backporting the latest osmgpsmap, but the situation is unfortunately a litttle complicated. [Bug 1388339] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel, playback] No sound at all and streaming going hi speed
I reinstalled ubuntu and the same thing is happening. After some browsing on you tube sound is not working anymore and some streaming bargraphs (soundcloud ie) are going twice faster than normal and still no sound. This bug doesn't seem to affect "Mixxx" which is a DJing software. Sound still works with this. Altough I had this message when starting Mixxx: > Carte son occupée Sound card busy > Mixxx n'a pas pu accéder à tous les périphériques audio configurés. [Bug 1395430] [NEW] Kile interferes with a Konsole session running outside of Kile if Konsole uses byobu

[Bug 1297849] Re: Virtual private network connection fails after distribution upgrade due to outdated Network Manager configuration files
Well, I downgraded to 14.04 and the problem has gone away completely for me. Nothing I tried with 14.10 worked. It may have worked if I had done a completely clean install (one where no existing /home partition existed). As I've mentioned, the problem began after I upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10. Then I installed 14.10 again, but I did this 14.10 install while having an existing /home partition (so not a completely clean reinstall). There are two bugs why I cannot continue to run 14.10. This one, and one with Autokey-GTK: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autokey/+bug/1395415 Here are my thoughts on this bug. You'd think it have to do with one of those hidden configuration file in the /home/user directory. However, this may not be the case: people having tried deleting those config files and folder completely (so that they are recreated from scratch next use) and the problem didn't go away. Have vpnc or network-manager packages changed since 14.04? You can determine your version by typing this as a single line into the terminal: sudo apt-get install apt-show-versions ; sudo apt-show-versions network- manager network-manager-vpnc In 14.04, I get this output: network-manager:amd64/trusty 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7 uptodate network-manager-vpnc:amd64/trusty 0.9.8.6-1ubuntu2 uptodate What version of these are running in 14.10? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1297849 Title: Virtual private network connection fails after distribution upgrade due to outdated Network Manager configuration files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1297849/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1394711] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers
Ok I have run the aforementioned test with the DVI to HDMI cable and no analog sound cable attached and the System Setting Sound dialog set to the HDMI video card sound chip. This does output sound from the test application but the "System Ready" sound still appears to be going out the analog output. To clarify the "latency" problem I have been having using HDMI sound on the video card when the sound test application is run initially the "front left" sound is missing the "front" sound. After this it works fine until the System Settings dialog is exited and reentered then the "latency" problem occurs again. This also causes desktop notifications to be only partially output or not output at all when using the HDMI video card's sound device. This is why I have been using the analog output on the motherboard as the problem does not occur with it.. If you need more information or want me to try something I havn't tried or need me to test a proposed fix let me know and I will do so as soon as I can. Yes, I'm pretty sure the interface goes down during the offline portion of the full set of self-tests, for my e1000e. Connected to my switch, it takes longer than usual to autonegotiate a link. I should have posted this in the initial report, but here's the actual output: sudo ethtool -t eth0 offline The test result is FAIL The test extra info: Register test (offline) 0 Eeprom test(offline) 0 Interrupt test (offline) 0 Loopback test (offline) 0 Link test (on/offline) 1 If this doesn't usually happen with e1000e, the long autonegotiation is probably the corner case that's causing it. It's so long that the link test fails. (also, would it make sense to do the link test first, before offline tests that trigger autonegotiation? Or do we WANT to flag problems like sketchy setups that require SmartSpeed fallback to 10baseT to make a working link?) The other solution would be to save/restore routing table entries for that interface. But that might cause problems in some corner cases. So it might be a lot of work to implement safely, in the face of complex routing tables and/or changes made during the self-test while the interface was still online. Oh duh, nvm, there's more than just IPv4 to save/restore routing tables for. Some custom protocol that ethtool doesn't know about would not have its routing table saved/restored. Anyway, thanks for having a look into this. It's not a problem for me now that I know about it, just wanted to get it reported so at least the docs could include a warning. That's all that I think really needs doing, since checking every driver would be a lot of work. how about: ethtool(8): ... offline Perform all tests, including ones that interrupt normal operation. Some drivers may bring the interface down/up during this process, flushing routing table entries. They shouldn't, but be prepared just in case. Report problems with specific drivers against the Linux kernel (not ethtool). The "report a bug" sentence is probably too much, and could go. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1395269 Title: [e1000e] ethtool -t eth0 offline loses routing table To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1395269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1166125] Re: Broken fonts for Gtk based applications
Given that this package breaks the entire desktop in a non-obvious way, the priority should be "high". I'm a software developer and have used linux as my daily OS since 1993 and it took me several hours to figure out what was going wrong. [Bug 1166125] Re: Broken fonts for Gtk based applications
This package was somehow auto-installed in a release upgrade today from 14.04 to 14.10, and cost me most of the day trying to figure out why everything in X was glitchy and crashing. The terminal looked like http://askubuntu.com/questions/285836/letter-spacing-in-gnome-terminal Even xterm would crash on ctrl-right-click, and these badly-spaced strange characters appeared in almost every terminal emulator (xterm worked, except for its menus). Font selection dialogs ground the computer to a halt, and even the window manager titlebars were in a wonky font. Yet, something was showing, so it was a lot of work to investigate the entire stack of X11, Xft, fontconfig, freetype, pango, gtk, etc to find what component was bad. sudo apt-get purge pango-graphite solved the problem. No idea how that package got installed, but it's removal fixed everything immediately. There is a serious problem with this package in the 14.10 release of ubuntu as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1166125 Title: Broken fonts for Gtk based applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/1166125/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1394711] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers
Raymond, I have performed the requested data captures and will attach them. I took a look at the xrandr command and decided to try a little troubleshooting on my own and found that the following xrandr command resolves the problem until the system is shutdown or rebooted (e.g. the System Settings sound tests pass and the "System Ready" sound is output if I logout): xrandr --output DVI-0 --set audio off So it appears that the underlying code for the "audio = auto" setting for DVI-0 is incorrectly determining that the setting for this configuration(e.g. DVI to HDMI with analog audio) is "on" instead of "off". I can understand the confusion after looking at the DVI video specification on wikipedia and finding this: DVI-D devices output HDMI signals, many including audio, (examples: ATI 3000-series and NVIDIA GTX 200-series video cards) ,[9] and some multimedia displays input that HDMI signal, including audio, by using a DVI to HDMI adapter. Exact capabilities vary by video card specifications. The only test I have not run is to see if the HDMI video card selection in the System Settings Sound dialog will actually output sound on the DVI to HDMI cable and also resolve the issue. I will try this as soon as I finish attaching the data files and will add another comment to let you know what the outcome of the test is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394711 Title: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1394711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There are many problems with this approach (confusing queries displayed, departments disappear even if you're browsing one, no way to return to the previous page), but it's something. [Bug 1366538] Re: Synchronisation/close /dev/sdi: i/o error on target host
I can add another data point: Same thing happened to me. I have a 300GB external Seagate drive that was working fine for a few years with no problems attached to the USB 2.0 port of my Gigabyte motherboard. After upgrading to 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-39-generic (64-bit) the drive switches to read-only FS after the first write operation and I see a number of "end_request: critical target error" messages in kern.log. The drive also has a firewire port, so I unplugged the USB cable and plugged in a Firewire cable and now all is well. I've written multiple GBs to it with no problems. The only issue is that the throughput is substantially lower now -- around 25 MB/s compared to around 43 MB/s I was seeing before with USB but I can live with that for a while. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366538 Title: Synchronisation/close /dev/sdi: i/o error on target host To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1366538/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1395401] [NEW] The UI allows creation of invalid locale names
Public bug reported: I'm not using Kubuntu, but I help out with answering *buntu questions sometimes, and I would like to report an issue I have met several times. [Bug 1362452] Re: Menu editor fails to produce expected results.
Hi Sean! I confirmed this on Xubuntu 14.04 x64, fresh install, all updates and latest Menulibre 2.0.6 from the stable ppa repository. Playing arround with the configuration files I found a workarroud for this bug: Note: Update all packages and install latest Menulibre from ppa stable repository f 1. Delete all files in "~//.config/menus" (or rename the directory to ~//.config/menus.bkp and create a new empty "~//.config/menus" in order to backup it). 2. Delete all files in "~//.local/share/applications/" (againg, it's possible to rename "~//.local/share/applications" to "~//.local/share/applications.bkp" and create an empty "~//.local/share/applications/" in order to backup it) 3. Copy all files from "/usr/share/applications/" to "~//.local/share/applications/" 3. Backup "/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce-applications.menu" (i. e. rename it to "/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce-applications.menu.bkp"). You need to be root to do that. [Bug 1367002] Re: Intel XEON L5430 is not supported
This is a BIOS bug. If you look more closely to the content of /proc/cpuinfo for the affected cores, you'll see that there are fewer reported CPU features, including the 'est' feature which is Enhanced SpeedStep. If you post what cpuid -r command dumps, you will probably see that the affected CPU cores report incorrect CPU features (CPUID leaf 1, that's EAX=1, features reported in ECX). This is caused by the AV69 / AX64 revision E0 CPU errata (L5430 is revE0, see the CPU signature 0x1067a) and the failure of the BIOS to update the microcode for all CPU cores (look at the dmesg log, microcode 0x0), before each revE0 core gets to initialize the PECI_CTL MSR. It may be that your BIOS doesn't contain the required microcode update. The same thing can be said about the revC0 microcode update (CPU signature 0x10676), but the revC0 is not affected by the errata. I have already investigated a case with an Abit IP35 motherboard, a revE0 Xeon CPU and a BIOS that contains the required microcode update, but which fails to update the microcode to cores 2,3 and 4, while the first core is a success. The only workaround I found was to modify the raw BIOS, not to write to the PECI_CTL MSR, and to disable all thermal control/protection, in the BIOS menu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1367002 Title: Intel XEON L5430 is not supported To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cpufrequtils/+bug/1367002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1390589] Re: 8086:08b1 [Lenovo V570] Intel Wireless 7260 wifi stops working
Asif Youssuff, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.16 to 3.18-rc3 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your release.
