[Bug 1241867] Re: installing with LVM over old install with LVM results in unable to install bootloader
Hello! A year later it turns out this is STILL happening. I had a drive with a 14.04 LTS install on it which had been set up with LVM. I booted an install USB to do a clean install of 14.04 (had moved the drive to a different system) and told ubiquity: erase disk and install ubuntu and use LVM with this install. It DOES NOT erase the disk when you do this. It seems the installer is mounting the drive's swap partition, I guess, which is preventing it from erasing it. And then it tries to install Ubuntu to the old LVM partition, instead of the actual drive. The only solution that worked, again, was to boot the system to a live environment and use dd to write some zeroes to the drive. After doing this, it installed as expected. And again: this is not me trying to install grub to a logical volume. This happens by just telling Ubuntu to erase a drive and install a fresh copy, where that drive had previously been configured with LVM. Steps to duplicate: 1) Boot Live CD 2) Install Ubuntu with LVM on a drive 3) Boot Live CD 4) Run installer with option to erase disk and install Ubuntu and use LVM That's it - I have done nothing else, I'm not trying to set up my own weird partition scheme. Expected behavior: When you click erase disk option, it should unmount anything it has mounted under the hood and erase the disk. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241867 Title: installing with LVM over old install with LVM results in unable to install bootloader To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1241867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1386257] Re: intel-microcode should be installed by default, when the CPU is GenuineIntel
@debfx this is precisely why intel microcode package should be consistently installed and this is done in response to the TSX problem described before. microcode update is the last resort that vendor has to correct firmware bugs in the field. microcode update removed TSX instruction because the implementation turned out to have issues. But that was not sufficient alone, due to incorrect detection in the user- space code and the fact that microcode is not updated on most client systems. [Bug 1398596] Re: arm64: optimized copy_to_user and copy_from_user assembly code patch causing unhandled pagefaults
Excerpt from the report: The exact same fixup code is being used for copy_to_user and copy_from_user. For the copy_from_user case we want to zero the rest of the kernel destination buffer when we hit a pagefault reading from user space. However, for the copy_to_user case we most definitely don't want to write zeros in the destination buffer when we hit a pagefault writing to user space! I get unhandled pagefaults here, when copy_to_user is called: 0xffc00073c638 +8920: strbwzr, [x6],#1 0xffc00073c63c +8924: subsx2, x2, #0x1 0xffc00073c640 +8928: b.ne0xffc00073c638 __hyp_text_end+8920 0xffc00073c644 +8932: ret I would suggest re-working the fixup path and testing both fixup paths thoroughly by placing the system under memory pressure and confirming that they are both hit. ** Summary changed: - arm64: optimized copy_to_user and copy_from_user assembly code patch causing unhandled pagefaults + Revert arm64: optimized copy_to_user and copy_from_user assembly code -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1398596 Title: Revert arm64: optimized copy_to_user and copy_from_user assembly code To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1398596/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 726832] Re: Touchpad speed scales with multimonitor size per axis
FWIW, I am currently experiencing this problem and wish to provide more information. This is my first bug report, so I'd appreciate some guidance. The problem is exactly as described, on 14.04.1 LTS 64-bit on an Asus Zenbook with Elan touchpad. [Bug 1389355] Re: systemd-journald crashed with signal 7
Did you actually boot with systemd as PID1? Note that this isn't supported in Ubuntu 14.10 (only upstart). On current vivid, running journalctl under upstart just exits cleanly with 1. Can you reproduce this crash easily, i. e. does it still happen on your system if you run journalctl? (the stack trace isn't very helpful, I'm afraid). ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Information type changed from Private to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389355 Title: systemd-journald crashed with signal 7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1389355/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1398623] [NEW] torbrowser-launcher apparmor profiles are broken in ubuntu
Public bug reported: In Utopic, when you install torbrowser-launcher it installs a set of AppArmor that work fine in Debian Jessie, but are broken in Ubuntu. When you try running the torbrowser-launcher binary, it fails and AppArmor errors get logged to syslog. I think the AppArmor profiles shouldn't be included in the Ubuntu package until the AppArmor profiles are fixed. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1398595/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
