Unfortunately, I've never been able to reproduce the bug. Also please
note the mame-common package was superseded by mame/mess/mess-data

Could we please consider this closed?

[Bug 1301784] Re: cannot search text beginning with Alt(-gr) special character

2014-12-21 Thread Lars
I can confirm this bug in 14.04 with a german keyboard. In my case it only
effects gedit. The search field closes by pressing alt or alt gr therefore
nothing can be entered in the search box based on those keys. The solution to
copy paste is not practicable for me since I search many [... or @... strings.
A solution could be to leave the searchbox open even when clicking on a menu
entry (which is another thing that closes the searchbox, but I guess that was
initially intended.

[Bug 1396840] Re: 10de:0867 [iMac9, 1] Module nouveau systematically crashes after a few minutes, whereas module nvidia from nvidia-331-updates crashes only after several hours of work

2014-12-21 Thread Etienne URBAH
The end of the attachment is 'kern.log' for an X bug with the 'nouveau'
module from Linux kernel 3.16.0-28.38 :

- Line 4253 beginning with 'Dec 22 04:13:22' is the start of the test
with the 'nouveau' module from Linux kernel 3.16.0-28.38

- Line 5624 beginning with 'Dec 22 04:27:46' shows the changing of
LogLevel to 1

- Then, I logged in using cinnamon, started firefox, ...
   I lost system responsiveness.
With Ctrl-Alt-F1, I could still connect to a system console and use it.
After Ctrl-Alt-F7, GDM showed its login screen, but login froze.
After Ctrl-Alt-F1 then Ctrl-Alt-F7, GDM tried to show its login screen, but
NO user icon appeared.

- Line 5673 beginning with 'Dec 22 04:49:39' is the beginning of the
request to show the kernel state.

[Bug 1389434] Re: Tapping doesn't work after resume

2014-12-21 Thread PeterPall
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected reproducible ubuntu

** Description changed:

My laptop worked out of the box with ubuntu, which I actually expected so I
didn't even bother to look in the internet if it does before buying it.
There is one thing that is half-broken, though: If I close the computer it
goes into suspend mode. If I open it again it resumes. But like with all other
laptops I could test on after booting the computer's touchpad has tapping and
two-finger-scroll enabled. After the first resume you can click only using the
physical key even if the touchpad works fine otherwise.

Turning off and re-enabling the scrolling functionality in gnome-
control-panel doesn't make scrolling work again.

Yes, my 2 previous attachments were related to an upstream Linux kernel.

But this time, my attachments are duly related to the CURRENT Linux kernel

I hope that they will be useful.

[Bug 1325142] Re: failure to update libpam-systemd in 14.04 due to missing logind init script

2014-12-21 Thread Pavel Petrovic
very bad experience. ubuntu server 14.04 64bit, trying to fresh install
on some older DELL machine (poweredge 1950) with software raid with
separate /boot, swap and /tmp. everything seems to run ok, and after
reboot, grub works ok (except that one has to make fast boot = 0,
otherwise error message, but that is another bug with that save
environment thing not working on raid in grub anyway), but when actually
booting the system, after swap is turned on in second 13 or so, booting
stops, and the machine freezes before the consoles are open, machine not
reachable on the network.

ok, rebooting from CD to rescue, but the network configuration is
totally broken due to some misconfiguration of /etc/resolv.conf
(pointing to ../run/resolvconf/whatever), needing to replace it manually
with resolv.conf that is present while the live CD downloads the apt
packages...

but still system doesn't boot, so finally finding this page, and
manually editing the prerm and post scripts of this terrible libpam-
systemd package, getting the apt-get go through the install, and only
then getting the booting working.

hell with this ubuntu and my lost night! sorry, I am not going to
produce any log files after the machine has been finally installed. no
logfiles were produced anyway, the /target/var/log was just empty files.

[Bug 1398497] Re: HP Proliant Serverrs - DL360 and DL380 Gen8 - Precise Kernel Panic - General Protection Fault and X2APIC/XAPIC boot parameters

2014-12-21 Thread Dave
Hello,

Sorry if my posting is not appropriate... I'm very new to Linux, but
inquisitive.
I have just installed an Ubuntu 14.04 based desktop, Linux Lite 2.2 kernel
3.13.?
H/W is Intel CPU i7-4790S = 4 Core +HT and I have VT enabled so I can run
Virtualbox.

I have found the following in dmesg log file:

[0.022633] Your BIOS is broken and requested that x2apic be disabled.
[0.022633] This will slightly decrease performance.
[0.022633] Use 'intremap=no_x2apic_optout' to override BIOS request.
[0.022745] Enabled IRQ remapping in xapic mode
[0.022746] x2apic not enabled, IRQ remapping is in xapic mode

Is this also related to the issue in this thread.?
If it it is,
I can provide more information if you tell me what I need to do.?

David

[Bug 1321421] Re: 8086:8ca0 Sound output distorted/unusable with Intel Z97/H97

2014-12-21 Thread Hannes Benson
I am running 12.04 and upgrade to the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard and
also got the nasty noise issue.

echo "options snd-hda-intel snoop=0" > /etc/modprobe.d/fix-sound-intel97

fixed it for me after adding the .conf :)

Thanks fellow ubuntu ppl!

Is this still a problem in precise? I've tested the -window parameter
under utopic and it creates the window correctly

[Bug 665496] Re: messages on mame show badly

2014-12-21 Thread shankao
Sorry, the screenshot you mention doesn't appear in the linked page. You can
attach files to this bug report using launchpad directly.
Still, this is an old bug in an unsupported ubuntu version. Is this still
happening in a supported one? Thanks

How this has anything to do with mame? Do you use it then the fan is
running high speed all the time?

[Bug 117713] Re: WD external drives need to be spun down, "sdparm --command=stop" doesn't work any more

2014-12-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Peter, please do not apport-collect to another person's report, as you
are not the original reporter.

Linux Mint has a different procedure and location for tracking bug
reports. If you want to file a report against Mint, please do so via
their bug tracker located at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+filebug .

If you would like to file a bug in Ubuntu (not Mint), and so your problem and
hardware may be tracked, please file a new report with Ubuntu by executing the
following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu kernel (not a
mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux

For more on this, please read the official Ubuntu documentation:
Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu Bug Squad:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Filing_Kernel_Bug_reports
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Policies/DuplicateBugs
Ubuntu Community:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

As well, please do not announce in this report you created a new bug
report.

Thank you for your understanding.
