Anonymous Linux User, thank you for the information. The article has
been revamped, and among those changes, to include what you have
advised.

Despite this, a few follow up questions:
+ Did this not occur with a prior version of the NVIDIA proprietary drivers?
+ Does this happen with nouveau?
+ Did this happen in a prior release?

[Bug 1406200] [NEW] Add support for GOA in Syncevolution to make it work with Ubuntu-Gnome (Vivid)

2014-12-28 Thread Khurshid Alam
Public bug reported:

It seems Ubuntu does not package "providergoa.so" in Syncevolution. As a
result there is no way to make it work with Gnome-Online-Accounts in
Ubuntu-Gnome.

Running

syncevolution --print-databases \
backend=carddav \
username=goa:myusern...@gmail.com \
syncURL=https://www.googleapis.com/.well-known/carddav

fails with “unknown identity provider 'goa' in
'goa:myusern...@gmail.com'”.

Gnome Online Account integration can be provided either with a seperate
binary package i.e "syncevolution-provider-goa" (just like it does with
UOA) or in "syncevolution-libs-gnome" ( As pointed out by Patrick on

[Bug 1404612] Re: Power management of the wireless LAN does not work.

2014-12-28 Thread katsu
We are sorry to have confused you with poor English.

My wireless card is Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter.
kernel driver in use: ath9k driver.
Power management is OFF by Default.
but driver option is set to ps_enable=1.(ps_enable: Enable WLAN PowerSave)

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k_powersave.conf
options ath9k ps_enable=1

# AC adapter connect & kernel 3.13.0-40-generic.

$ tail /var/log/pm-powersave.log
Running hook /etc/pm/power.d/wireless false:
Turning powersave for wlan0 off...Done.<--- off

Power management is works fine.
but kernel 3.13.0-41-generic & 3.13.0-43-generic is does not work.

# AC adapter connect & (kernel 3.13.0-41-generic or 3.13.0-43-generic).

$ tail /var/log/pm-powersave.log
Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless true:

** "ON" does not have it. **

$ tail /var/log/pm-powersave.log
cat: /sys/class/net/wlan0/device/enabled: No such file or directory <--- error

$ iwconfig
off--->  Power Management:off

** a cause **
cat: /sys/class/net/wlan0/device/enabled: No such file or directory <--- error

"/sys/class/net/wlan0/device/enabled" is assumed in wireless script.
(wireless script: /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless in pm-utils package)
but changed to "/sys/class/net/wlan0/device/enable" on kernel 3.13.0-41 &
43-generic.
(filename: enabled -> enable)
So can not control wireless script in pm-utils package.

[Bug 1405489] Re: [HP ZBook 15 Mobile Workstation] Ubuntu 14.10 random freeze and lock up with NVIDIA

2014-12-28 Thread Anonymous Linux User
I have updated the BIOS.

(
  Asside:
  For any other ZBook users note that the directions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate are
  incorrect as there is no README in the download from HP.
  Instead, on Boot press "ESC" to get into the BIOS setup and follow the
instructions in the "BIOS Upgrade" section.
)

After having upgraded the BIOS I changed NVIDIA back to the "NVIDIA -
Power mode"

$ cat /proc/acpi/bbswitch
:01:00.0 ON

And now can confirm that this issue still occurs.

Changing to confirmed as per instructions and posting updated BIOS data.

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Bug 1404612] Re: Power management of the wireless LAN does not work.

2014-12-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
katsu, if you are advising that you are unable to turn on wireless Power
Management, because it is off by default, that is intentional, as the
Power Management backend is not robust across devices. IIRC, turning it
on and expecting it to work, or just turning it on are not presently
supported due to this.

Is this what you were expecting?

[Bug 1406177] [NEW] [20ANCTO1WW, Realtek ALC3232, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all (speakers or headphones)

2014-12-28 Thread Justin
Public bug reported:

justin@j-ll-len:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10

Expected:
Sounds playback works out of the box on 14.10.

What happens:
Sound does not work out of the box on 14.10.

Detailed report:

After struggling and giving up on 14.04 on a Lenovo T440p (random
complete lock-ups that wouldn't even respond to magic sysrq keys) I
attempted 14.10 and it appears to work fine. No crashes, nvidia drivers
install, all is well with the latest 2.28 BIOS version. This machine
apparently has some issues with particular BIOS versions > 1.14
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/246834).

No matter what sounds settings I fiddle (via the GUI sound settings or
alsamixer from the terminal) I cannot get it to play the test sounds or
sounds in an application (Chrome, etc). The card is not muted, and it is
detected in sound settings. The machine came with Windows, but I did not
test sound before installing Ubuntu. I will test that shortly and update
the bug with those results (to help determine if it might be a hardware
failure). Hopefully the bug has attached relevant log output from the
command I ran "ubuntu-bug -s audio". But I'll aso attach the output of
alsa-info.sh.

[Bug 1404589] Re: [Satellite P50-B, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2014-12-28 Thread Antonio Rodriguez
I've been going through the kernels and trying to determine what's going
on, and a curious thing is happening.

If I use a kernel that fixes my sound (v3.18.1-vivid, for example), and
then use my old kernel again (v3.16.7-ck2), sound still works. However,
if I boot into Windows 8, then return to Ubuntu (v3.16.7-ck2), sound no
longer works. I've tested v3.17.1-utopic and I still have no sound, so
I'm considering it as a bug-exists kernel.

I'm currently downloading 3.18-rc2 to see if the bug is still present
after purposefully losing my sound by booting into Windows 8. The
download is going very slowly (close to 4 hours for a ~60MB file). Are
there any additional mirrors for kernel images?

[Bug 1405684] Re: mount: codepage mapping does not work for msdos fs

2014-12-28 Thread Phillip Susi
Looks like it is a lacking feature in the kernel: it does not perform
any translation on filenames, so if they are in some specific code page
and you want them to show up right on the terminal, then you need to
configure the terminal to display using that code page rather than utf8.

[Bug 1406160] [NEW] Lubuntu 13.04 install fails, trying to install upstart-bin after upstart

2014-12-28 Thread Lachlan Andrew
Public bug reported:

I am trying to install lubuntu 13.10 on an IBM X40. (Installing 14.04 LTS gives
a similar error, but the log file here is from 13.10.)
The process aborts while installing upstart-bin, complaining:

Dec 29 00:56:36 lubuntu ubiquity: dpkg: error processing
/cdrom//pool/main/u/upstart/upstart-bin_1.13.2-0ubuntu2_i386.deb (--unpack):
Dec 29 00:56:36 lubuntu ubiquity: trying to overwrite
'/etc/bash_completion.d/upstart', which is also in package upstart
1.13.2-0ubuntu2

A separate bug is that the install process identified this as an
instance of bug #998492, which seems entirely unrelated. Should that be
filed as a bug in apport?

[Bug 1406132] Re: Radeon GFX card fails on 3.16.0-28

2014-12-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jasper, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.19-rc1

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1400079] Re: Bluetooth not working on Asus X751LA

2014-12-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1237296 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1237296

** Description changed:

- This bug is associated with launchpad's question #257206. Since the
- question did not receive any useful answer, I thought to scale up the
- issue.
+ The default bluetooth app is not able to activate the bluetooth. I installed
blueman, and through it I could switch on the bluetooth (at least it says it is
on). However when I do a search it cannot detect any remote device. Although I
set the device as visible, it doesn't show up when scanning with another
bluetooth device. Hcitool seems to detect the local device:
+ hcitool dev
+ Devices:
+  hci0 54:27:1E:51:63:DE

- In order to be 100% sure, since I made several tests for another problem
- I have with the touchpad, I reinstalled entirely the whole system, so
- now I'm running a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 on the mentioned
- notebook.
-
- The Notebook is equipped with a Qualcomm Atheros, the wifi is working fine -
at least so it appears to me.
- The bluetooth app is not able to activate the bluetooth.
- I installed blueman, and through it I could switch on the bluetooth (at least
it says it is on); however when I do a search. it cannot detect any remote
device. Moreover, although I set the device as visible, it does not show up on
other devices scanner.
- Hcitool seems to detect the local device:
-
- $ hcitool dev
- Devices:
-   hci054:27:1E:51:63:DE
-
- However it does not detect remote devices:
-
- $ sudo hcitool scan
+ However, it does not detect remote devices (this was after I set my phone as
discoverable):
+ sudo hcitool scan
  Scanning ...

[Bug 409005] Re: [enhancement] Feature Request Email Notifications

2014-12-28 Thread Germar
Hi Julian,

I'm not yet sure how to implement email notifications and after one year
of working on 1.1.0 I really want to release that new major version now.
So I skipped this enhancement for now (which means it will not make it
into 1.1.0) but I'll pick this up again after the release.

Regards,
Germar

Re: [Bug 1377546] Re: evice gets Gtk-CRITICAL errors

2014-12-28 Thread Joseph Chen
Hi Christopher,
With my 14.04 LTS, evince no longer shows this issue, since  my system has had
some extra GTK related libraries updates.   Thank you for the help,

 Joseph Chen, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please provide an example document that demonstrates this
problem?

As well, could you please advise to the user impact this has, if any?

[Bug 1325729] Re: apport NUMBER view-report option causes ProblemType python crash

2014-12-28 Thread jdfalk
This doesn't seem to be fixed in the latest versions. I opened bug
#1406149 and marked it as a duplicate of this just in case I am missing
something but using the latest version it still fails.
